If you have a rescue dog, stay away! Very dissappointing experience here with Bonnie Smith. I just got a puppy from a rescue and wanted to bring him for a wellness checkup. After looking at reviews for places nearby I decided on Westover Animal Clinic.. what a mistake. I waited an hour to be seen, even after arriving 15 minutes early like they had requested, then had the worst time with the vet, Bonnie Smith. Anything having to do with my dog was just "ok"... she checked his heart and lungs - "eh, they sound ok... no congenital defects", I asked if there was any problem or concerns and her response was an apathetic "eh. they're ok..". Then, being concerned that he appeared to be itching himself a but more than normal, I asked if she thought he might have allergies, if I should try a new food or shampoo, etc. and her response was only condescending, not informative - "Well..I'd hope not for you if he's still this young. Ha." with no actual answer to my question. Next, she checked his knees and told me he appears to have a congenital defect, a luxating patella. I ask her recommended form of treatment and she tells me joint supplements and a possible surgery in the future if it is bothersome, but first I'd need to decide if I "even want to keep the dog" or if I can instead "give him back to the rescue and maybe get my money back", and that if I had "just got him from a breeder than I could have returned him and picked a new dog"... uhm... Really? I adopted the dog and he is a family member, not a damaged good to be returned when they are not "up to par". He is a happy puppy, not in any pain, has seen previous vets when he was being fostered and no one else noticed any issue. Joint supplements, and possibly needing surgery in the future? Ok, I can handle that. A vet who not only promotes breeding when I bring my rescue pup in to be seen by her, but also suggests I should return my dog if I can and should have gone to a breeder? I cannot handle that. I'm not sure if this vet has an all around issue with rescue dogs, or was just having a terrible day, but I definitely will not be sticking around to find out. I would give a less than 1 star review if I could. Just awful. Read Less
