Our dogs love it there because from day 1, the entire staff has made them feel like they're so special, so our dogs have no issues about going in for appointments. After suffering through a bad experience with a local vet, a friend recommend Riverbend.  We brought our dog in for a surgical consult, and instantly fell in love with the practice and all the lovely people in it.  The front desk staff is helpful, friendly, and very accommodating.  The vet techs are all great people, and you can tell they really love animals.  We saw Dr. Thompson, and my dog had his very first wonderful experience at a vet's office.  He's normally extremely scared and needs to be muzzled right away, but Dr. Thomson sat on the floor with him, played with him, and gained his trust before performing an exam (never before have we ever seen a Dr. take the time, and care about how our dog felt).  I knew then this was the right fit for our dog.  We scheduled a surgery, they did a wonderful job.  They took great care of him during his stay, and at all followup visits.  Our dog attended physical therapy with Melinda, who helped him regain strength in his injured leg.  He had such fun working with her, and his recovery was much quicker than we had ever imagined. We decided we wanted to keep them as our vet.  They take amazing care of both of our dogs, and are so extremely patient and loving despite the fact that they are both high strung.  Dr. White is patient, knowledgeable, and takes the time during every visit to address our needs and/or concerns.  The practice as a whole seems to center on providing comprehensive loving care for animals that they care about, which you can learn easily by sitting in the waiting room for a few minutes talking to other happy pet parents :) Read Less

A few months back our puppy fractured his paw so our vet recommended taking him to Riverbend Animal Hospital. From our first visit to the last, we had an overwhelming great experience. The front end staff is super knowledgeable and welcoming. Dr.Thomson and his team are wonderful. I just felt Charlie was in the best care possible! I am so grateful it took just one surgery to correct Charlie's paw, and he has been nonstop action since he recovered. We went to Riverbend with our 11 year old black lab who had been ill. We received standard care at other vets, but as soon as we went here, we knew it was outstanding. All staff were welcoming, supportive, and clearly love animals. We received the worst news you can get as a pet owner, knowing it was time to say goodbye. Riverbend took care of our dog, went above and beyond to support us, speaking to us over the phone, meeting with us to discuss our questions and concerns, and they gave us articles and poems to help us cope and talk to our children. We received his ashes, a sympathy card signed by all the staff with meaningful notes inside, as well as a paw print from our dog on another card. We are blown away and look forward to going to Riverbend when we are ready for our next dog. Read Less

riverbend hospital is unbelievable Dr. Thompson is so great and a real animal lover felt the love and trust right away.When my millie had physical Therapy Melinda was terrific so patient,loving,caring my dog was taking a lot longer to walk after her ACL surgery and Melinda work on her and have to say she definitely work a miracle since my millie is very lazy and stubborn so this is the place if u ever need a surgery done they make u feel right at home and definitely go way out of there way to make sure your dog or cat feels comfort and love so I definitely recommend river bend Read Less

I called Riverbend because we think our cats might have fleas. Sharon answered the phone, and she was SO nice and helpful. She gave me lots of information on how to 1) tell if our cats have fleas and 2) deal with it if they do. Please do do bring your pet here. Last week I brought my cocker in here for a toenail issue. My vet referred me to these people. Dr. Thomson attended to him. After sedating him and treating him they sent us home. 20 minutes later in my car I was in a horrible situation. My dog was struggling for his life. After racing to Boston rd. animal hospital my dog and friend passed away. It's too painful to give the details of how it played out.They did this procedure after he had eaten breakfast and after the procedure they had me take him before he was stable. I will never forgive them for what they did to my dog Sam, me and my wife. Please stay away. FYI..the attending doctor has acknowledged his error and poor decision that cost my dog his life. Dr David Thomson Killed my niece's Dog put him under anesthesia without asking if his stomach was empty for a toe nail cutting and then gave him a dose quick wake up sent him on his way, poor thing died after vomiting all over and aspirated in Daddys arms . Hey pet lovers , after a less than satisfying experience at another veterinary hospital we took our little shar pei to these guys . She had a mass cell tumor. ... a very serious and potentially fatal illnesses requiring surgery . The entire staff was extremely polite and very considerate of our feelings and the well being of our little doggie.  They were very thorough with the explanations of the disease and its treatment options . They were not at all pushy or sales pitchy with the selection of which treatments to pursue. They were understanding and respectful of our budget concerns.The doctors are brilliant and highly skilled in their field. They are skilled surgeons. Their bedside manner is excellent, very respectful and professional ....they made a bad situation less stressful and enspired hope and confidence that things would turn out alright and they did.....even if things had of not turned out as well as they did I am confident that riverbend did the best job possible with our little friend ......our little dog ended up having surgery and did extremely well . She is bouncing around like nothing happened .This business is top shelf .I would highly recommend taking your furry friends here for the very best treatment possible .Very impressed with everyone there .Building is spotless and cheerful .Mood in front of the house is professional, courteous and up beat .The caregivers are absolutely the best I have ever encountered in the veterinary field and I have had dogs for 40 years . In a life threatening emergency I would trust these people with my own life over my GP.  I am not saying my GP is bad, I am saying that these vets are amazing. This is the best Animal hospital in my opinion from Amherst to Northampton.  I would not roll my cat's dice with any one else.  I just wish they took humans too. ;) Read Less
