Both of my dogs are patients here. They had their spay/neuter surgeries here and go for well check-ups and other visits also. I cannot say enough about the wonderful care they have received here from the staff and great veterinarians. Dr. Oakham has treated them most often and has given them exceptional treatment and been incredibly caring. She personally calls to check on them many times while they are recovering. I am thankful to have such a wonderful team of doctors and techs caring for my pets. Read Less

The staff at Halifax are all very compassionate and won’t take advantage of your wallet. Dr. Hopkins took the time to explain the diagnosis and treatment of my dog and never once did I feel rushed. Service was prompt and on time, and I was able to get an appointment that same week. I plan to return for all my veterinary needs; I’ve been to many vets and this one is simply the best. Read Less

My family has used Halifax Vet for 15 years, and I have never had a bad experience. Dr. Hopkins and Dr. Oakham are wonderful, and I have always felt like I could trust their expertise. Both vets go above and beyond to provide wonderful care for an array of animals that my family has owned (dogs, cats, horses), and I cannot speak highly enough of the care and consideration, as well as depth of knowledge, that these vets have. Dr. Hopkins is fantastic. Always able to see you. We just moved to halifax, less then a week in the new house, and our dog broke his toe while we were hiking near by. It was a Sunday and Dr. Hopkins took us in right away. Didn't even ask us to come in another day. That's the first good story. The second is we woke up this morning and our dog was very lethargic to the point he didn't want to even go outside. We brought him over and Dr. Hopkins saw Franky right away, unfortunately our dog has Lyme disease, but Dr. Hopkins was fast, promt, and practical. Thank you again Read Less

On the spur of the moment and after hours, Dr. Keith Hopkins and his colleague Dr. Erin Oakman made themselves available to perform an AI on my German Shepherd late on a Saturday afternoon. They were warm, welcoming and highly skilled professionals. Though they didn't know me, they took their time and handled two high drive, working dogs with calm and care. I am a dog breeder, certified trainer and kennel owner from Southern NH, and I couldn't recommend this clinic and these two vets highly enough. Read Less

Dr. Hopkins saved my cat Captain, and the compassion and care that he took will stick with me for the rest of my life.It was a few weeks before Christmas, and I got a call from my husband that something was wrong with our five year old cat, Captain.  With cats, it always seems to become an emergency so quickly, because they don't let you know anything is wrong until it has become life-threatening.  When I had left for work that morning, Captain had seemed a little sleepy, but nothing that I thought to stop and investigate -- but by noontime, he was vomiting up foam and completely listless.  He didn't even seem able to walk.I had only recently moved to Halifax, so I knew nothing about vets in the area.  I made a quick appeal on a local Facebook group and they suggested Halifax Vet, which was both close to my house and well regarded.  I called in a panic, and the woman that answered the phone calmed me right down and said they'd fit him in as soon as I got there.Captain ended up having urine crystals, and the blockage was so severe and had been present so long that euthanasia was brought up very quickly as an option.  But Dr. Hopkins said he thought Captain might recover with surgery, and encouraged me to give it a try.My husband has slow winters at work, and we were not financially prepared for a major hit right then.  Dr. Hopkins made up a very reasonable quote for the surgery, and assured us that he'd do his best for our kitty. The surgery went well, but after the first day, Captain hadn't started eating or urinating or anything else.  This was a bad sign, and we thought for sure it was the end of the line for our cat.  But Dr. Hopkins recommended that we keep the cat there another night, and he did some further procedures.  This went on for several days, each day getting a few updates that the cat wasn't much better yet, but that they would keep trying. On the last day that he was there, Dr. Hopkins said he thought Captain just needed some time at home to feel better, since being at the vet was very stressful.  He sent us home with many instructions, and a promise to check in with us regularly over the next few days.  Captain made it through each day and night, getting a little better each time, and when we brought him in for follow-up, he got a bill of relatively clean health.Only then were we even presented with our bill, and we were shocked and over-the-moon grateful to find that Dr. Hopkins had decided to stick to the original quoted price even though he had done so much more for us than he had originally planned.  He also threw in a few free cans of prescription food to try, and told us to call if anything seemed wrong.I don't live in the area anymore, so unfortunately I cannot support Halifax Vet with my continued business.  But if I can recommend any area vet to anyone else, it will always be this one. We just moved to Halifax and have two large dogs. The staff here are courteous, friendly, and prompt. Dr. Hopkins is straight forward and very practical without being condescending or aloof. These folks were wonderfully flexible and considerate at accommodating one of our dogs minor emergency which ended with him having a minor surgery to repair a hematoma in one of his ears. Not only did they schedule our surgery for the following day but have been extremely attentive during his post surgery care (site inspection, bandage changing, etc..). These people do their job very well and keep the environment very low stress which makes trusting the care of my furry family to them easy.Read Less

After searching for a vet that had that smaller, caring touch my cousin recommended Halifax Veterinary. We went in to talk to the receptionist before making an appointment and were very pleased . Paula was very kind and answered our questions so we made an appointment. Today we had our first appointment with Dr. Oakham . We were greeted and everyone tried to make my shaking dog calm.  Dr. Oakham looked over my dog's records, asked questions about previous surgeries and did her exam very gently. She explained options about medications etc and did not push anything. We were so pleased after a bad experience some where else. So glad to find a new vet with a kind staff who really seem to love animals! Read Less
