As sit to write this much overdue post it is important for me to explain the location and circumstances in which I am writing it. The relevance of this will weave its way in through the context of this post. You see it is currently (2:00 AM) and I am sitting at Boston Children's Hospital next to my daughter who had major surgery today (well actually given the time it now is... yesterday.) Now you may be asking why does this have any relevance in terms of writing a review of Harvard Family Pet Clinic? Well... this is exactly why.I was paged by my daughter's surgeon to have her post op review at 12:30 PM today. At 12:45 PM today I received a phone call from Harvard Family Pet Clinic asking me how my daughter's surgery went. Yes you heard that correct... our "Veterinarian and her team" reached out to see how my daughter was doing and extend their help should we need anything. This act of kindness just reinforced for the billionth time why Dr. Koretsky and her entire team are incredibly special souls who do not only have inherent love and compassion for animals, but also foster a culture that treats animals and their owners like they are part of their own family. In October 2018 I purchased a French Bulldog puppy as an emotional support dog for my daughter. The second we met our new puppy Karma it was love at first sight. We all quickly bonded with her and she was thriving until shortly before Christmas December 2018 when we began to notice some significant changes in her. We immediately brought Karma to Dr. Koretsky who evaluated her and helped stabilize her through the holiday. After the holiday Karma began to decline again and it was at that time that Dr. Koretsky referred us to a Neurologist. After more testing we learned that our precious Karma has a severe congenital genetic disorder that resulted in the malformation of her spine and ribs. It seemed like one min Karma was this active healthy puppy running around and playing with anyone and anything she could get her hands on, and the next her health and mobility began to decline at an alarming rate. Over the next few weeks, and months Dr. Koretsky and her team partnered closely with Karma's neurologist as we all learned to navigate through the challenges being thrown at us. Even when Karma began to lose all mobility in her back legs this teams tenacity and positive encouragement did not waiver and as a result Karma's health began to improve. Dr. Koretsky referred us to an amazing company Eddie's Wheels (eddieswheels.com) and I can't even express in words what it was like the first time Karma went to try out wheelchair options. Karma was seriously in the first wheelchair for only a few secs before taking off and running around like she used to when we first got her. She was literally smiling ear to ear... and it opened a whole new world up to our sweet Karma. When I sent the videos of Karma trying out the different wheelchairs the response we received from Harvard Family Pet Clinic was overwhelmingly positive. The integrity, work ethic, love, drive, compassion, tenacity, and empathy that is engraved in Dr. Koretsky and each member of her team has not only impacted our family and their clients, but perfect strangers as well. It stretches far beyond their physical actions and emotional support they provide to each and every person and animal they encounter. Their actions reflect that there are still people out there that are selfless and embody a genuine heart and soul.... Without demanding anything in return. There is no ego at Harvard Family Pet Clinic... it is simply very educated, talented, and passionate professionals who share an innate love for animals and stand by their mission statement "Caring for your pets like they are our own". That I can attest to firsthand, without hesitation. ~ Stephanie Read Less

I highly recommend Dr. Damitz and his practice in Harvard. He was friendly, professional, kind, and very helpful, and his prices are VERY reasonable -- I would have paid much more elsewhere, and unfortunately I HAVE paid a lot more elsewhere for the exact same medicines and diagnoses! I'm switching to Dr. Damitz! He made me feel like a part of the decision, and he showed me pictures and other vets' opinions and treatment ideas online when it came to my dog's condition. I had a great experience here -- he really knows and cares about animals and veterinary science. All of that being said, I have three Labradors; he'll definitely be seeing me again! Read Less

We have a suspicious, intact 70lb working line German Shepherd female, and she has proven problematic for a number of Vets we attempted to visit because of ideology rather than the behavior of our dog. That she is not spayed, that she is engaged in Protection Sports, and even that she is a German Shepherd has provoked some outright hostile judgments from people we are paying to look after the best interests of our animal. When we brought our pup to Harvard Vet there was no hasty grab for a muzzle, no hesitation, no lecture, nothing but a wonderful approach of ducking right into her side and checking her over and the dog responded immediately by calming down and accepting the exam. I lament the retirement of this outstanding Veterinarian, a man who is the closest to James Harriot that i will ever meet, and his straightforward approach to all animals, even the "scary" ones. Dr Damitz is an old school vet and I mean that in the most positive way. When most vets now are driven by $$, Dr Damitz is driven by caring for your pet. After feeling I was being ripped off by a local vet who wanted to "test, test, test" (at an ultimately unnecessary cost of hundreds of Dollars) I chose to drive almost an hour from Franklin MA to Harvard, MA to someone I can trust. Read Less

I hope he never retires! There is no one else in his business, after trying to find someone for 8 years, that has the instinct, skill, forthrightness, honesty and humility and absolute love for animals. We've tried various Vets geographically closer to us, and have always been disappointed at the care, and the extra fees they charge. Dr. Damitz, you are brilliant and wonderful...wish we could create a mold of you!

I've used Harvard Vet (Dr. Damitz) for about 4 years now. Good vet skills, and good listening skills (important for dealing with the owner, aka me!). I also agree he has old-fashioned "horse" sense about treatments, and doesn't push the expensive procedures like some vets do. I switched from another local vet, who seemed a good vet, but liked to do all those expensive procedures. I don't care to fund someone's boat, if you know what I mean.Read Less

Also he's a class act as a person. His diagnosis and reading of pets health problems or lack thereof are spot on. Read Less

Dr. Damitz is best vet around.  We've used him for about 20 years.  Has a great way with animals! Our first interaction with him was with our cat who was losing her hair.  Had the same problem when living in Michigan but vet there tried several things that didn't work.  Dr. D took one look, knew exactly what the problem was, showed us one of his medical books describing the problem, and gave us the treatment that worked.  We were hooked.  Have used him ever since with all our dogs & cats.  Can't say enough good things about him! Dr. D is amazing! He is so good with my spastic bulldog mix. He knows his stuff, too. When my girl started throwing up a lot, he ran a ton of tests and suggested we switch her to a gluten free food in the mean time. Within a few days of switching, the vomiting stopped completely and then all the tests came back clean. Great "bedside" manner. Love him! Read Less

After finding my vet of three years had changed their way of operating for the worse after three years, I decided to drive 45 minutes from my home to Dr. Damitz of Harvard Vet. Dr. Damitz examined my pets with great care and compassion and his approach of treating ailments, only when it is necessary will have me driving to and from Harvard for the lifetime of these pets. In an age when most vets aim to maximize revenue by suggesting unnecessary bloodwork, surgeries and medications, Dr. Damitz is a breath of fresh air. He may be one of the few left of a fast departing generation of vets. Read Less
