The veterinarians and staff are compassionate, knowledgeable, and caring of all kinds of animals that come into their care. We have dogs and have had guinea pigs, and hamsters cared for there without hesitation. In an emergency, the staff comes together to quickly assess and treat the problem. This is the WORST vet I gave brought my cat to. I went multiple time yet they couldn't detect what was wrong with her. All they did was tell me the same thing over and over again every time I went when I kept telling them it was a bigger issue... they then kept information about my cat away from me. If I'm spending all this money to figure out what's wrong I expect them to tell me what they find don't keep it from me they then kept suggesting to give her medication that would effect her heart when there was no need for giving her that medication ... i then went to another vet they found out within the first visit. After going here for years, my dog who was fine aside from a little skin issue saw Dr Hutchinson who insisted my 9 year old need switch epilepsy medication although she hadn't had a seizure in years. Eventually after lots of discussion and switching it caused a severe auto immune issue which took about a month to identify and dr Hutchinson had stopped working there apparently. A lot of guessing later and second guessing and phone calls and visits that led nowhere and she passed away. When I brought her in to get her ashes back I asked for the paw print you can get as well, I heard her tell them out back to write it paid and left. I picked them up today and they FORGOT to order the paw print. I got more of a "sorry we forgot to give you your pack of gum here's a refund" than an actual apology for such an awful and heartbreaking mistake. Read Less

The small animal vet (I forget her name, we've only seen her once so far) took my bunny Rodney in for his11st checkup and she was great and Very informative! I also bring my cat and their wonderful with her also, and trust me she's not an easy cat to examine! I recommend them Highly 🐰🐱 😊 Read Less

Three of vets there had no clue what was wrong with my cat. They seemed persistent about putting my cat down because it was easy, even more persistent to nickel and dime things to the bill, also pressured me for my social security number while holding my dead cat and crying. I have had many dogs in my life and had many vets, this clinic is one of the best I have ever been to! The prices are extremely reasonable all staff is warm and knowledgeable, even when they are busy I feel like I am getting my questions answered and I am important. I've been taking my pets to Riverside Vet Clinic for the last 15 years or so. I work locally and they came highly recommended.  Enough so that I drive 40 minutes from home to get there. I have never been disappointed.  The staff ( we particularly LOVE Dr Owen! ) are friendly and professional and courteous . They are tuned into my pets and to me so well and have been so amazing when I've had to euthanize one of my fur kids. I even got a lovely note the following week. I briefly decided a few weeks to try another vet simply due to that 40 minute commute. What a mistake - but that's another review.  Suffice it to say I called Riverside after two appointments at the other clinic and asked to please come back. They were lovely about it. I don't even know where to begin. I called Riverside desperate to have my cat seen for a large abscess she had on the side of her face. She was not a regular patient here, but they saw her right away. The care and compassion we received from Darcy Hutchinson and her staff will be something I never forget. This abscess turned into quite the ordeal, but I felt like Dr. Hutchinson cared about the well being of my cat just as much as I did, if not more! Her kindness, compassion and professionalism I will be forever grateful for. It's scary when your pet has a serious ailment, but if you have some one like Dr. Hutchinson on your side, walking you through every step, it truly makes an awful experience a little easier to take. Everyone is great and Dr. LeDoux is the best! We have gone to this vet for many years. Dr John Ledoux is the best vet that I have ever met.. He has treated our cats and dogs. We moved up to Eliot, Maine 2 years ago , and I continued to bring my dog down to Dr. Ledoux because I trusted him completely with care of our old dog. . We lost our dog Harry a few days ago.. Harry had heart cancer. Dr. Ledoux was able to give us 1 more month with him .We are grateful for that time. He was so compassionate not only with Harry, but with us. He knew we were having a hard time facing the loss and had gentle conversations with us when we needed it. We are grateful for his compassion. He has never been the kind of vet to push extra tests for the money. He is realistic with an older pet and lets the owners decide. I will continue to bring my pets to him... When you are new to a town and your dog becomes very ill on Christmas Eve, you have to go with a gut instinct and quickly choose a vet.  The receptionist at Riverside Veterinary Clinic was so kind and assured me that if I headed out for their office they'd see us even though they were preparing to close.  In short order, he was diagnosed and treated and we were on our way back home within the hour.  I have looked through other reviews on this site and see that they are all over the place.  I am happy to give five stars for this office who charged appropriately, took great care, gave a lot of extra love and attention to a scared small dog, and alleviated my concern to a great degree.  One of the most stressful aspects of moving is finding a new vet.  I think I can check that one off my list.  Thank you Riverside Veterinary Clinic! RUN, don't walk away from this place. After working in vet care for many years, this place is as nasty as it gets. I went with a friend in an emergency situation to have her cat euthanized. We got there and the waiting room was crowded and noisy. We were left sitting out there with a dying and distressed cat and not even acknowledged for at least 20 minutes. When we were finally addressed, they took the cat into a post surgery room and placed all the meds on a cold metal table. There were sick animals in cages there and a big dog who was just coming out of annestesia  howling on the floor under the metal table. I asked if they had a private room and the vet told me all the rooms were filled. They knew we were coming and why and didn't even give my friend the dignity of a private room for this most difficult time of pet ownership. Yes, they took us in as an "emergency" case, but in most emergency cases I've witnessed through the years, vet practices would create a private room for a case such as this. Not here. The cat was in utter distress as was my friend. After my insistence for a private room, they gruffly and annoying said they could take us into the "surgery." The surgery was tiny, narrow and a mess. I looked at it and said to myself I would never want my pet operated in here. The cat succumbed to his illness and died thrashing around on the table. Lovely. My friend, who was visibly upset and crying, asked what was going on and the vet just looked up and said "he's dying." not a note of sympathy or care in her voice. It was an atrocious event. The vet was cold, callous and unfriendly through it all. I would NEVER go to this place with all the vet clinic choices there are in the area. I even suggested that my friend find a new place after all that. She will.1. They apparently overbook which is why the dingy and dirty waiting room was full.2. They had no respect for this emergency case, treating us like we were a bother. 3. The animal room was narrow, full, crowded and messy, with a very large dog crying on the floor. They obviously had no accommodations for such a patient. 4. The vet was cold, unfriendly and impatient with our questions and with my friends distress. She talked down to us.5. I couldn't wait to get out of there. It was a depressing and eye opening experience. Go elsewhere and avoid this place at all costs. There are many other vet clinics in the Haverhill area! Just because the exterior is nice looking, it doesn't account for the horrible, loud, dingy and overly booked and busy interior.Run....don't walk away from this place!!!!! Read Less

We have brought our three pets here for the past 5 years and always been fairly satisfied as they are very caring, and don't PRICE GOUGE like many vets do.... however the last occurrence was very disturbing and unacceptable. We had a local vet come to our home to euthanize our beloved 15 year old Yellow Lab and she brought her to Riverside to have her sent to be cremated. I filled out the form she provided checking off "private cremation" and getting her ashes back, which the visiting vet relayed to Riverside. I then called them within 2 days to confirm I wanted a private cremation... A month later I got a call from Riverside, asking me if I wanted a private cremation, or group and I was taken back, my response being "You have got to be kidding me!!"...The tech said "I will call you back". A week goes by, and I get a call back from a new woman knows nothing at all...but again wants to know what I want, and then when I ask whats going on, gets defensive and claims I never called them because there is nothing in the computer, tends to put the blame on me. I got frustrated with her and asked to speak with the original tech whom wasn't there. So another week goes by and the original tech calls me back, says my dog is "all taken care of", but they want to know "if I want a private or group cremation"...(now this is 5 weeks after her euthanasia)...I questioned..what was done? AGAIN she says after my questioning "let me call you back" !!So, today she calls me back to say that "nothing was done even though she thought she was all taken care of as they never got any instructions" (which they did) ....So my dog is still in the freezer (nice thought) and they are sending her out tomorrow. I double checked with the vet that came to my house, whom says that she confirmed with them I wanted her to have a private cremation, and I know I called them 2 days later to confirm.I just think this place is really busy, but this was very unprofessional and insensitive by them,  for someone who just lost a 15 year old beloved family dog for her to be in their freezer for a over a month. Yes maybe I should have followed up more, but I thought our dog was already cremated...not in the freezer! (thought she was already taken care of) This is awful! So Sorry Saydi! I know the purpose of this site is to help others (consumers).....They are not a bad vet hospital...have served us well, but I have to give them a negative rating for this, as I think their staff is a bit slip shot on keeping records with the high volume...and this experience was very upsetting! When my dog got sick, they treated him even though I couldn't pay for anything. They offered me a payment plan that let me choose my own monthly installments and due dates. When my dog got fleas, they sold me Frontline Plus, but it did nothing so now they are offering me a free Advantix bottle instead. Frontline Plus's own customer service wouldn't offer me a refund, but Riverside didn't hesitate to help. These vets are great, I'd rather drive half an hour to them than see someone in my own town. Long story made shorter, we brought our dog here to get groomed & were very specific on the intake form, as well as over the phone with the groomer. The dog they gave back to us looked completely different than the dog we brought in, our wishes were completely disregarded, our dog was there for 7.5 hours (but they said the grooming took 3 hours), we tried calling the manager and left 3 messages, still no call back. Why was he there for 7.5 hours for a 3 hour grooming? When we made the appointment, it seemed like all was well. When we brought him in, the receptionist seemed surprised, as there was an internal miscommunication about his visit. They also made us get him a canine influenza vaccine in order to do the grooming, when our vet recommended waiting until he was a year old before doing that, if we wanted to, as it was not a core-vaccine. We got a call from the groomer to verify what we wanted done with him and were very specific: "don't touch the head or the tail. We don't want them trimmed, at all." He came back with less than 3/4" on his head. He went in with 3" and we loved his long hair. The groomer nicked his nipples with the razor as well as two spots on his skin (bloody scabs left as evidence - in addition to the vaccine injection site) and he had razor burn. We can see the pink of his skin. They didn't touch the tail, at all...as in unwashed and debris left as evidence that his backside wasn't washed, at all. He had dirt debris caked on and flaking off his manly bits & rear end. We had to clean it at home the next day, after paying this place $140 for a grooming and (unnecessary) vaccine.This place is dismissive, and seems more interested in making money than truly doing what you ask them to do. Our dog was shaken up and just not himself after coming home. He was terribly embarrassed and we are never going back. We've taken him to other groomers before. We've never had such a bad experience. He always leaves happy & looking proud, for a fraction of the cost. Not this time.Save yourself the experience. Go somewhere else. Excellent staff, waiting room is nice and large and Dr. Hutchinson was fantastic.  Knowing that we had just moved from California she made sure our Kairi had all the proper boosters, and gave her a complete examination.  Our pup also had an issue that Dr. Hutchinson could not really identify so she sent us over to Bulger Animal Hospital.I highly recommend Riverside. We only take our pets here! We have 3 cats and a dog. The doctors and tech's are outstanding.   They listen to what is said, they get all the answers - good/bad, and are honest.  They all genuinely love animals and treat all the animals with extreme care!  Last year, we lost an animal to cancer. My 10 year old dog had an emergency.  I called them told them I was coming.  When I arrived everyone was waiting for our arrival.  They took him from my arms and rushed him in to check him out.  I was like the only one around.  They took me into a private room to wait. They spent time explaining all to me and took all the time in the world. I've seen Dr Hutchinson with my older cat and my young kitten. She was fantastic, gave me honest information or looked it up if she didn't know off-hand (I asked how much food I should be giving the new kitten). She has a super positive attitude, which is great if you're nervous about a procedure or have been dealing with a sick pet. One of my cats is afraid of being at the vet, and doesn't like to come out of the carrier. Dr Hutchinson patiently coaxed him out of the carrier, and was so nice to both my pets. She performed a neuter on my older cat, and from what I can tell did a great job. He was back to his old self within a few short days. I was nervous pre-operation but she was very nice to me and showed me where they would be keeping him.All of the techs and receptionists I've dealt with along the way were also very kind, knowledgeable, and efficient. You can tell everyone in the office cares a lot about their patients.My family has been bringing pets to Riverside for almost 10 years. I don't think my parents have ever really had a complaint, and they've done a great job treating our pets for everything from fleas to diabetes. Now that I have pets of my own, I am still consistently happy with their service and so grateful for their patience and guidance.This vet is more affordable than many others I had looked at in the area: approximately $160 for cat neuter (they do accept MSPCA's SNAP program for discounted spay and neuter), $60 for an office visit with a doctor, significantly less to see a vet tech (for vaccines and the like). The absolutely DO care about the animals; they have taken care of many of my dogs through the years,and I would never go anywhere else.  They are compassionate animal lovers and it shows! Read Less

Our Vet kept in contact with us as we tried different approaches but sadly Atari had to be put helped to pass over. Brought my cat there the other day for a 'yearly checkup, and to check a spot on her face'. I understand that my cat did not cooperate (she became very aggressive and would not let the vet touch her) but they wrapped her in a towel and did the best they could. They said they had to give her a rabies shot required by law and told me it would be $15. They proceeded to take a sample of the spot I asked them to check, and they only other thing the vet did was check the cats hearbeat. They STILL charged me full price for a checkup even though all they did was check the heartrate even after I complained. They also charged me $20 for the rabies shot which they told me would only be $15. I stood at the counter to check out and no one helped me or even asked if I needed something until I finally said 'uh, I need to check out?!?'. Even after complaining about the full price checkup the assistant just gave me a look and didn't even offer to do anything about the price. I didn't feel they helped me at all and I will not go back there again. Read Less

Great place. My wife and I adopted a dog from TN but never had him check up since we have him. Finally, we decided to have him doing some blood work and check up just to make sure he is fine.The staffs are great, very gentle and even my dog pee inside, they were "OK" with it. We brought all of the medical history with us, the staff made photo copies and Dr. Karen asked the staff to put them into the system and set up auto reminders.The check up was fast and Dr. Karen was great. Riverside was not very nice to our poor cat. She's never been there before & I called at 8am to make an emergency appt as she has an infected eye. Doctor was not in till 9am they said they would call back then. 10am after no call returned I... called vet again & was told they only see past patients for emergencies on Sunday. Why didn't they tell me this at 8am?? They offered to make an appt for Monday. I called Salem Animal Hospital & although they were all booked for the day, the nice girl there offered info to 3 local emergency clinics that I could take her to right away. Why no other help was offered from Riverside, obviously they don't care about the cat, didn't want me going elsewhere & just wanted our money. You just lost a potential longterm customer. Read Less
