I have visit this vet twice. Once for an emergency and once when I had a dog at the end of her life and had to put her down. Putting a dog down is gut wrenching and this clinic couldn't have been more compassionate.  They have a quiet room with carpeting, a small loveseat and it feels like a home.  We were able to be in that space with our dog as she was put down.  It's a small detail but compared to a typical metal table exam room it made a huge difference. They gave us time, listened, and explained everything.  Their kindness made a horrible situation a bit better and while I don't wish that situation on anyone, if you must, I couldn't recommend them higher. I make the trips from Holden to Hubbardston because the staff and care is amazing. Over the years we’ve brought in our dogs(included a naughty little rescue) , and some cats and all were given excellent treatment( from beginning wellness- to end of life) Honestly,If this were a pediatric group I would have without question would have brought my children here and I don’t say that lightly. We switched from our former vet and i was blown away by the way the veterinarians at Hubbardston Vet care for their animals and owners alike - we had to put our dog down and we had only been there a few times at that point. Our vet called us multiple times to check on our dog while he was sick and spent a half hour plus at times on the phone answering all my questions. Dr. Moreno even called on her way home from work on a Saturday to check on him! The day we put him down, they were so compassionate and some of the staff even had tears in their eyes themselves!!! Excellent! We came to this vet from another local vet who had developed a very poor relationship with our dog. We came to Hubbardston after letting them know that our dog had issues with a previous vet and our with our first visit the vet took the better part of an hour getting to know our dog (bribing him with numerous treats) until he was comfortable and happy before proceeding with the exam. We are a family of 5 people, 3 cats and 2 rabbits. So far we have been here with our kittens twice, and on the phone with staff multiple times. Everything feels warm, clean and friendly from the moment you walk in, with a pet and human friendly waiting room space. Every person I have interacted with has been respectful and caring. We were there this morning in the blizzard for an urgent care need for one of the kittens. I am so grateful they found a balance between having jus...t the right amount of staff there to provide this service without putting too many at risk. Recommendations and options for diagnostics and treatment, along with associated costs, were clearly explained to me with a high regard for my ability to understand the information and without judgment about my need to make a plan that considers best practice and finances. I am so happy with my decision to change vets and come here! I recently had my first appointment at Hubbardston Veterinary Clinic for my elderly cat. Dr. Lawrence is fantastic. I sent over my cat's recent lab work and she spent considerable time looking over the lab work before we even met for the vet visit later in the day! She had made extensive notes on what to discuss with me when we met. I can't thank her enough for her help and expertise to get my 17 year old cat back on track with his chronic kidney disease. By far this is the utmost caring veterinarian clinic I've ever been to. I've had many pets in my life and seen many vets and if you are interested in a great bunch of caring people that all put their heart and soul into not only your pet but you, take your animals here. They had never met me but I was calling around all the places to have a dog put down on a Friday afternoon about 4 pm, and one of the vets changed her plans and stayed over to help lay my suffering dog down to peace. My kitty had an oral infection & some teeth that needed removal. Dr Custer was so sweet to my baby girl and so patient with educating me about how to care for a cat's oral hygiene. Then when it was time for surgery, kitty ended up needing a little more work while they were in there... They kept the price at the original quote for me instead of adding on for the additional time and effort that was spent with her. You don't often hear of vets who would do that. It shows they really care for the animals over the paycheck. Then they gave me excellent, easy to understand aftercare instructions and even called the next day to check up on her. When our sweet little westie, Makita, became suddenly ill, we brought her to HVC. Dr. Custer was extremely understanding and quickly determined the cause. It was a very emotional and difficult time. Considering the circumstances and finding her condition was much worse that we had thought, Dr. Custer's expertise and compassion really made what was a difficult goodbye as positive as possible. I have been taking my cat and dog to Dr. Wheeler for only a few months. What a difference from my previous vet. Dr. Wheeler and her staff are outstanding...very caring and patient. Always happy to see me and my pets. This is a practice that focuses on it PATIENTS, unlike several other area practices that seem only interested in my money. I know it can take a while for new patients to be seen but the wait is well worth it. Now that we're patients Dr. Wheeler and the staff always seem to find a way to take care of us quickly. Read Less
