I had a very sick cat and needed a good vet. They took me as new patient and I had to go in quite a few times. They are wonderful caring people. I brought Twinkie for her first visit with Dr. Nygard this week. She took the time to thoroughly explain Twinkie's liver condition and suggest dietary changes. She was very compassionate and understanding when I expressed my anxiety about the situation, which I appreciate very much. Additionally, she somehow managed to take blood from Twinkie without her even flinching. Twinkie is comfortable here and so am I! Today with some diet changes she ate two helpings of food. Poor poor service. Rude to customers and animals. False advertising as they don't provide all the services listed on their sign. If you haven't been in for an appointment in a while they basically tell you to "F*** off". Then when you find another vet and request your animal's medical records. Her office is probably 25 minutes further than the others but it is so worth the drive to finally have a healthy puppy. Dr. Nygard is the sole reason for that healthy puppy for her thorough visits, accurate diagnosis and years of experience. She’s not only very knowledgeable but she also does not look at you or your pet as dollar signs when you walk through the door. Any time we have been prescribed something she always tells us where to go to get it the cheapest or something similar that can be bought for much less and the same results achieved. On Friday, I made an appointment for my dog to get a round of shots. I was given a time of today, Monday at 2:20 pm. I am going in for organ donation surgery on Sunday evening and will be in the hospital for a good week. My dog needs to be boarded so I wanted to make sure he's up to date on everything. My fiancé took a half day at work, which he really can't afford to since he will be out so much over the next few weeks, and drove our dog a half hour to Hilltop. Upon arrival, he checked in and a woman (the vet) started yelling at him "YOU'RE LATE!!" He said his apt was at 2:20. She insisted it was at 1:40- I wrote down the time of 2:20 twice during this phone call, once when it was given and once when I confirmed, so it was absolutely 2:20. She then yelled "IF YOU WANNA BE SEEN YOU'RE GONNA HAVE TO WAIT!" "Actually, I don't have time to see you today!!". Even if he did come for the wrong time, which he didn't, there is absolutely no excuse for that kind of behavior from a professional, or anyone for that matter. He then had to leave the clinic an drive home another 30 minutes when he desperately needed to be working. He said in 32 years that is the worst experience he's ever had as a customer. I've tried calling for the last hour and no one will pick up the phone. 1 star seems to be too generous for this place. Read Less

I have been with this veterinarian for over 15 years, not all at this location. I have had a great experience the entire time. I have always had confidence in her expertise. We have been going to this clinic for a year now. We had gotten a new puppy and were recommended to this clinic saying that they were awesome, had cheap prices and we're very experienced and knowledgeable. We received great care and they were very flexible with our work schedule to get appointments. So needless to say we were very shocked to receive the treatment we were given when we called to inform them that our dog was hit by a car and killed. We hadn't even finished saying that we wanted her creamated when they said sorry for your loss and hung up. So we called back and they said what did you want us to do in a very nasty manner. We did not bring our dog there to be creamated since there was no compassion what so ever. We were lucky enough to receive excellent service at another clinic, Spencer Veterinary Hospital. They were very understanding about our situation and took us right away and treated us with kindness and compassion. I would think that a vet would show compassion through all stages of care and we certainly did not see that with this vet. I would not bring another one of my animals here again nor would I recommend anyone to them. Read Less

Vet is phenomenal. When my sisters 17 year old cat was dying, she came to our house. She was gentle with him, and checked every possibility with the tumor on his face. She was patient when my cat tried to attack her in response to her prodding the sick old cat's tumor. Told us he may not wake up if put down, his tumor might be large enough to be inoperable anyway. When she got our own clinic, I took my cat and advised others to take their pets there. She always was equal parts caring, frank and gentle. For her, I would give 5 stars. The front desk phone operator. I think may be a bit too stressed or just flat out an a-hole. I can think of no other word. I called in tears yesterday, my cats front tooth was knocked out halfway. I knew they weren't open but hoped they would call me back as soon as they got in. I tried calling them today multiple times, when he picked up, was brisk. I understood he was busy, tried to explain my situation. He said "Because you never responded to our correspondence you are no longer a patient here, we have no appointments." Then hung up on me. I have moved twice in the last year. The past residence in between, does not always give me my mail, and we left there as fast as we could manage because after moving there, they said no cats allowed. I never received said correspondence. However, as I was hung up on, this was never able to be told. Also, I tried calling back after, who would they recommend, that is all I wanted, as I trust HER opinion, and was picked up, then hung up on. So, 1 star, it may not do anything, I don't care. This vet has no sympathy. She misdiagnosed my dog a week ago. He passed away this morning. We bring him there and she just dumps his body on the cold table and says "oh it must have been a brain tumor" no sympathy and the guy receptionist only cared about payment. I would not recommend this clinic. The lack of kindness and friendliness towards our dog makes her scared to even go in and she's had several negative experiences at this point. We have switched veterinarians so our dog can have a better experience and not be terrified of being around a veterinarian. Their prices are overall cheap, but even with the cheap prices we decided to bring her to a more expensive clinic because of the terrible customer service and strangely aggressive attitude we get from the front desk receptionist. It's not worth it to go here and get treated terribly. We were very disappointed with this place and thought our dog deserved better. If the Doctor and her receptionist care about their patients they would do well to have better manners, better people skills, and act like they actually like animals. Read Less

The doctor is amazing. Her husband, who is the front desk person and part owner, is an ass! He is a horrible person and I can no longer trust my pet care with a person who is part owner with his attitude and horrible customer service. The doctor came out as I was picking up my records and arguing with the husband, and I was in tears explaining how wonderful she is, but I cannot continue because of her husband's rudeness and "I don't give a shit if I offend you, go elsewhere" attitude. He told me he doesn't like to do nail clippings because it's only $17 for them and it's a waste of their time, they only do it as A FAVOR. He told me he would prefer I go to Petco. Sending business away! All this because I had spoken with the doctor earlier, and was going to have the nails done at Petco because of the vet smell. A well known thing! Other pets can tell when one of them has been to the vet. I wasn't saying this office had a bad smell. I was telling him about my conversation earlier and he flipped out and said "go to petco" and hung up on me. I called back and went round and round. Again he said "I don't want you to come here for that, go to Petco." When I INSISTED the doctor told me earlier to come on it and there are openings tomorrow, he begrudgingly set up an appointment and hung up on me. I realized, I can't stay there. I called and told him I was going to pick up my records immediately he said "No, don't come here. I'll mail them" and hung up. I drove there and got them, which is when he started up again and the doc had to come out. I'm crushed. If the doctor calls me and says her husband/part owner is no longer in the "customer service" capacity, I would go back in a heartbeat. Read Less

I called today for an emergency with my pet ... I was told sorry im booked . This is the vet my pup has seen since we got her 3 years ago !!! when i said my dog is very sick ill have to find someone who can help . She said OK bye . All is i can say is i feel she really doesn't care about our animals or there well being . this is very disappointing to know after all this time . I did however call Abbott animal hospital and my girl was seen within the hour and i found the cost to be equal to what i would've paid at Hilltop. I am happy to say my girl is on the road to recovery thanks to Abbott and the caring staff and doctors . I will not ever be back to Hilltop a BIG lesson learned Read Less

We have had nothing but excellent care from the entire staff I have read reviews from others stating they are expensive well let me tell you they are not expensive compared to other places we have taken our pets Health care whether for animals or humans costs money. I also read other reviews saying that the desk staff was rude I certainly don't agree stop mistaking busy for rude.No they have no time for cit chat or your personal problems because they help as many pets a day as they can possibly can. With little time for breaks and lunch. As far as compassion My family finds them compassionate but they don't have the time to dwell on your problems and they shouldn't be expected to. I have been going to this vet now for a few years. The prices are great but the service is not. I feel uncomfortable everytime i call. The male receptionist is always rude and unpleasant when i call. The vet is typically nice but is very impatient with the animals. I brought my tiny 6 lb dog to have her eyes and skin allergy checked. She was muzzled and and handled ruff. I also had my male cat nuetered a few days ago at the wahl which the vet recommends and my cat was vomiting a few days later and his gums were white which usually means internal bleeding. So i called hilltops and again was shunned away told to call wahl even though hilltop is my regular vet. I will be looking for a new vet clinic, enough is enough. Read Less

Really disappointing. We brought our cats there a few times for check-ups and it was OK, a bit expensive but not bad. Our dog recently got sick, though, so we called to set up an appointment to have him come. They scheduled the appointment for the same day, only to call us back shortly and say they were cancelling the appointment because our dog had not been there before and we didn't bring our cats to them this past year. They weren't interested in dealing with us. They were convenient but always a tad rude and consistently made us feel negligent, despite the fact that we weren't. No thanks - go elsewhere. Read Less

This place is a joke! I called to get my poor puppy in because she was up for the past 2 nights with explosive diarrhea. The guy who Answered was a jerk. He said its to bits it's surgery day which is fine and all. So I asked for a different day he said no were busy. He didn't try to give any helpful advice on what to do next. My beagle went there to have a lymph node removed. They were so rude. They couldn't even get him in for 3 months. They had bad attitudes including the vet. She should not be a vet. She needs to work somewhere where their are no people or pets. She told me my beagle didn't have cancer. 3 months later after a second check up he has cancer and tells me I need to make a decision asap she has other clients to get to. Where is the compassion? She's good for routine wellness visits but nothing more. Her prices have increased over the past few years. Once you need her for an emergency or illness forget it. I had an emergency situation due to her conservative ways and then was told I had to go elsewhere because the surgery schedule was full! She's a scatter brain and doesn't remember anything. I have to constantly remind her of details and be totally proactive. It is my opinion that she is a mediocre veterinarian at best. I am so happy with this clinic. The doctor is wonderful, and so is the receptionist. I went to them for any emergency situation, and before the end of my appointment, I was considering switching from my regular vet. By the end of the appointment, I did switch. Dr. Nygard is very caring, as is the receptionist. I had not been considering switching before I met them both, but couldn't be happier with the care and the welcoming atmosphere extended by the whole office. I am also extremely happy with the prices. I would dread the expense involved in other veterinary visits, but Dr. Nygard keeps her costs very affordable. It would cost me upwards of 70 for a regular vet visit, but at Hilltop they start out at just 20!!! I could not believe it. Other vets keep going up and up and adding on costs, but Dr. Nygard makes it a point to keep prices affordable. I mentioned this to the receptionist, and he said that they are in the business to care for animals and make it a point to keep prices affordable.
