Have taken our pets to Lexington-Bedford vet for over 10 years. Drs Johnston and Banks were compassionate and thorough. The staff was knowledgeable, helpful, and welcoming. Since the new renovation of building and staff we have been sadly disappointed. The facility comes across as a very high energy day-care, as opposed to a professional hospital.  The staff always seems too busy to listen, and getting a response can be time-consuming. We have taken our pets here for almost 20 years, but unfortunately, since Dr. Johnston sold the practice, the new owners/vets seem only interested in adding as many procedures and tests as possible to maximize earnings while neglecting the underlying cause(s) of our dog who now has been seen 5 times for the same issue without a cure. It would be helpful if the vets compared notes with each other, so I wasn't always starting from scratch. It would also be helpful if the vet on Saturday, July 21st would assume that, having lived with the dog for 14 years and is our fifth dog, (twelve animal overall), that we may have a better idea on the contrasts of our dog's failing health. When we bring the dog in and tests have SHOWN that the animal's heart murmur has gone from 1 in 6 to 1 in 3 in 5 months, that the dog's xrays showed his racking cough was due to enlarged heart, and he has stones that are causing blood in urine, AND he is up crying at night because his heart is waking him up, do not accuse me of having no compassion when I disagree over paying for yet another round of tests to simply confirm what has already been discovered and is known. Also, I have NEVER made the decision to put one of God's creatures on the other side lightly, and luckily have only had to make it once. So when I bring it up as an option in the form of a question as to whether the dog has reached that point, do not give me still another furious, dirty look like I was asking to drown a puppy. And then tell me, "I have to leave. I have to go look at a REALLY sick dog next door," implying that mine is nether sick nor in enough pain. The behavior was beyond rude and my wife left crying.This was a totally unprofessional experience. BTW, the dog was taken elsewhere immediately and I've happily paid for medications to keep him as comfortable and healthy as possible. When my little guy had a suspicious lump, Dr. Connolly worked very hard to find out exactly what was going on. She pulled no punches with the diagnosis (Cancer), but did an amazing job with the surgery and recovery. We have been going to Lex-Bedford Vet for years w our pets. We were always happy with the professionalism and care provided by the previous doctors. The new facility is clean and sterile, and perhaps much needed, but at our last visit, my pup and I were put in the front room with a lovely, sun-drenched, window -- taped with notes that it should not be opened. With the beating sun and lack of air, the room was sweltering.. and we were there for an hour. A few times we have been, the doc speaks directly to our small dog in a very high pitched voice, which tends to excite any animal. Asking me if you can 'borrow the dog', or if 'I mind shots', seems sophmoric. Listening is a great skill to master. The young doctors and techs are very nice, although, for the price, we would prefer a more professional experience. Read Less

The staff may be friendly, but in the end this just seems like an operation that is all about money. I went in to get a travel certificate for my dog so I could bring him with me when I fly to Germany. During the visit, the vet told me that she would need to check with the USDA to make sure that my pup’s vaccines were still valid. I didn’t think anything of it. The next day when she gave me the certificate I was charged over $300 for her time spent checking up on the validity of my dog’s vaccines. As proof of the work she had done in my behalf she gave me a copy of an email she had sent, along with the health certificate. $300 to send one email? Never going back to this office. Read Less

I mean, Dr Connolly is just simply the best vet around, hands down. And here's why! I have a 15 month old boxer named Lewis who HATED the vet. The first week I had him he had a horrendous double ear infection mixed with a pretty awful upper respitory infection. Ear drops, oral antibiotics, the whole 9 yards at just 8 weeks old. We ended up leaving our first vet in Waltham who kept telling me my dog was fine when I clearly knew he was very sick.. and ended up at Lexington Bedford where he was finally taken care of the way he deserved.Since then he's had more than his fair share of vet visits; stemming from never ending upset tummy issues to getting his ear split by another dog at day care. Easy to see why he hated going to the vet. Whenever he sees the building he gets nervous and upset. Even when the dramatic vet visits came to an end (at least so far), routine visits were horrible. He was just a nervous wreck!One of my coworkers, who had to hear all about my constant puppy problems all the time, use to rant and rave about her vet (Dr Connolly) in NH. She told me how she would never bring her pup to anyone else and how amazing she was with her dog. I would of gone to her then, had it not been for the distance.Let me just say, all the vets at LBVH are incredible. As stated earlier, we dealt with a less than great vet at another hospital when Lew was a tiny pup, and ever since coming here the care has been outstanding. Just unfortunately, Lewis has always been nervous throughout appointments, but to no fault of there's. However.. as of a few months ago, the vet I had heard so much about, Dr Connolly, started working at LBVH!! I made Lew's annual check up with her... and when I say it was love at first sight y'all, it truly was! Lewis has never been that happy with his a vet in his entire life! Dr Connolly was on the ground with him the whole visit, he was practically in her lap by the time she was done! Normally he hides under my legs, but not at this visit! He was too busy giving Dr Connolly all the kisses! As any dog parent knows, it makes such a big difference when your pup isn't afraid of their vet! I recently switched from Winchester Animal Clinic to Lexington-Bedford Veterinary Hospital ("LBVH"). The service at LBVH is by far superior to what I've received at Winchester Animal Clinic and other Vets I have visited in the past. They always do their best to accommodate scheduling appointments. In my case they were able to fit my Dog Rivet in with a same day appointment. Rivet is currently undergoing heartworm treatment and was throwing up. The vet at LBVH gave him an anti-nausea shot, fluids and special food to help him digest easier. This was all done before my Vet at Winchester Animal Clinic returned my phone call. My experience at LBVH was so good that I'm doing the rest of my dogs heartworm treatment at LBVH instead of Winchester Animal Clinic. One last thing, my last vet used to take days to call me back. The vet at LBVH said she would call me the next morning with the blood test results and followed through. I think that kind of professional behavior is the main reason I'm switching. The level of service that we consistently receive at LBVH is always excellent! In March 2015 they did the surgery to have our feline spayed was no exception. I appreciated getting several calls throughout the day updating me on her status and condition of our kitty. I also appreciated receiving getting a photo text to me of here resting comfortably in recovery! We also appreciated (and got a chuckle out of) the 'Certificate of Bravery' our kitty 'Chessie' received with her photo on it. It's these little touches that are noticed, which always makes going there so enjoyable not only for us, but for the love, care, and concern given to our pets! We love Dr. Johnston at Lexington-Bedford vets. She completely gets our dog, with all of his peculiarities, and she is sensitive and kind when dealing with him. He is afraid of the vet (was rescued when he was older from a bad situation), so she and all her staff are gentle with him. She is hands-on and on top of things without being overly-quick to order tests and labs. We now live 45 minutes from Lexington but still travel to see Dr. Johnston because she is so wonderful. Lexington-Bedford Veterinary Hospital is the best. You can ask for an appointment online, and you (or your pet) will almost always get in on one of your requested times. The staff are friendly and clearly like their work, and the vets are amazing. They take time, even if you are 'just' coming in for an ear infection, to look all over the patient and examine his/her total health. They ask questions. They pay attention! I love this place! I've been bringing my now seven year old dog here since he was just seven weeks old. Staff is compassionate and always helpful. I have been going to Lexington-Bedford Veterinary Hospital for at least 30 yrs. If my dogs did not have top notch care beyond what I expect, I would not continue to go to this facility since it is not near the town in which I live. The doctors have taken an interest in my dogs and their individual needs in times of distress and all the clinic workers, those that keep the office running efficiently and those that care for the animals during a stay are the best. They smile and are friendly.....that sets the atmosphere. I think it is also important that the clinic and facility is always clean and organized.Read Less

Given her history, she would haven not lasted that long, had in not been for all of you and the care she received through you. You never made us feel rushed, you explained, you suggested, you advised, you called, you made us feel safe and hopeful, you shared our triumphs and setbacks, you made us face the inevitable with delicacy and compassion.
