While my bird's leg was not able to be fixed, the hospital tried many many different options while giving me phone calls with their new ideas. First of all, I want to be clear that I think Dr. Arad (one of 3 vets at this practice) is an excellent vet and I have been very happy with the care he has provided to my senior lab over the last 2.5 years. I am leaving a 2-star review because of a variety of other issues (some of which I was able to overlook before a final incident today). I was recommended expensive and unnecessary tests (confirmed by Dr. Arad) by one of the other vets during a sick visit. I have also had some less than pleasant interactions with some of the vet techs over the years, culminating in a very poorly handled situation today. I arrived 6 minutes late for an appointment (with 2 young children in tow) and was told I would need to wait for the person who had arrived just before me (a half hour early) to have their appointment before me (to be clear, this person arrived moments before me and sat down to wait; they were not in an appointment already) . Despite polite protest, they would not change their position. They said they tried to call to verify I was coming (true-they literally called as I was walking in from the parking lot 5 minutes after my scheduled appointment), so there was nothing they could do. Their appointment policy states that they may have to reschedule or have you wait if you arrive FIFTEEN minutes late. Because of this and other negative interactions with the techs, I will not be returning. Read Less

I wish I could give Dr. Rod more than 5 stars. He took incredible care of my chinchilla when she needed some dental work done. He was extremely informative and broke everything down in a way that was simple to understand. The best part? Didn't hurt my wallet! We have used LAH since 2008 for Wellness checkups for our small parrot (a Caique). When we travel, most boarding houses requires a current health certificate, within the past year. We had a checkup 9 months ago and asked for a copy of the last checkup report, but they would not provide a copy. They insisted that we schedule a new appointment for $70. Depending on who I spoke to, their excuse for this poor service varied. Once they said it was against their policy to provide copies if they had not seen the patient within 10 days. Another time, they said the last visit's doctor was not longer at the hospital and they did not keep a copy of the report. The results from the last visit should be in their computer system. There are a lot of great avian vets much closer that will gladly provide copies of checkup reports, but not this one. I advise you to pass this one up. Read Less

The 45 people that stand around at the desk to gossip, pet dogs, and make me wait a minimum of 10 minutes after my appointment is supposed to be taking place (even if I'm 20 minutes early) get one star. I'm a pre-vet major and have a ton of animal experience and this was the worst animal hospital I have been to. Had two of our rabbits neutered by them. It cost an arm and a leg but I assumed they knew what they were doing. Nope. They got one of our rabbits incisions infected, which is rare and difficult to do if they performed the surgery properly. They put him on antibiotics and pain meds for two weeks and the infection went away. However the other male rabbit was most likely improperly neutered as well. He still smells like a male rabbit, gets overly excited when female rabbits come near him, and urinates to mark territory more than he should be. We are still looking for a diagnosis for him... Worst of all though, the vet told us both males were perfectly healthy before and after their surgeries. We were assured they had excellent teeth. However the rabbit who had infected incisions also has had decreased appetite and has been shedding his coat like crazy. Turns out his teeth were NOT healthy and his top teeth are curling under and growing into his mouth while his bottom teeth have grown over his top teeth (their teeth should in fact meet at their tips).This has clearly been a problem since before his surgery, as they are starting to rot. He has had chew toys in his cage his whole life and he must have had misaligned teeth from the beginning and the vet didn't care to look carefully or perhaps he was dropped in surgery and his jaw was broken. No matter, I will never go back to this animal hospital and I strongly recommend against using this vet. Read Less

Love love love this vet. Both of our reptiles have had amazing care here. The front desk staff is incredible and treats our pets like they're their own. The vets spend the whole time talking to our animals and letting them know what's going on, even if they can't understand! Couldn't possibly say enough nice things about this practice. Read Less

This vet is amazing. From the techs and staff at the desk to the doctors! Everybody is caring, knowledgeable and great with the animals. Excellent care wouldn't take my African Grey anywhere else. Dr Rod is the best! Other vets I've seen over the years have been quick to throw expensive testing and procedures that most people can't afford. He's very thorough and takes amazing care of my fur babies. The staff is amazing as well. Even in a tough situation (I had to euthanize one of my kitties) he and his technicians are genuinely sympathetic. Even sent a hand written condolence card. Littleton animal hospital is the best vet I have ever taken my pets to. They see exotics, and I ended up transferring my cats to them after we had such a great experience with our hedgehog. We moved to CT and still drive to Littleton to see Dr Rod. He is by far the best vet and nicest person and we only trust our animals to them. Highly recommended. Read Less

I have been lucky enough to have been taking our pets here since day one. It has been 3 years now, and I can not rate this practice enough! If it had a 10 start option I would pick that! The staff, the Vets, everyone is amazing! They are friendly, very compassionate, very affordable, the practice is clean and they now have a cattery and food dispensary. I could not imagine taking our extended family anywhere else. They have been there for us with the good times, and the heartbreak with our pets, and we would be lost without this Practice. Very pleased with the doctor, he did everything right ans was a pleasure to talk to but also very disappointed because they failed to give a proper dosing sheet to my friend and his pet was accidentally overdosed. Please be sure to check for proper dosing and I hope that in the future they will improve their protocol and mark the syringe instead on relying on paper, which is a lot more work for them anyway and more easily forgotten. I've been taking my rabbits to LAH for many years now.  In my opinion, the vets at this practice are the best exotic animal specialists in the Boston area.  My rabbits have seen other vets who supposedly specialize in exotics, but the care has been uninspiring at best, and horrendous at worst. The level of knowledge (both learned and intuitive) among the vets at LAH--especially Dr. Doidge, whom we most frequently see--however, is impressive. Further, the facilities are clean and the people are fantastic.  Seriously, if you have "exotic" animals of any kind--birds, reptiles, rabbits, etc.--or even dogs or cats (they care for them, too), I can't imagine that you will find better than LAH. My last vet was very rude and I felt did not understand the bond that one has with their animal. I interviewed Littleton Animal Hospital and I knew immediately that they would treat with dog with respect. Even the fact that they were willing to talk to me before I became a customer shows how nice they are. They dealt with my emotions well even then. I have been with them approx 4 years and they have never let me down. All of the staff are wonderful and are so kind to me and my dog. I recommend them to everyone. A happy ending! Littleton was one of the only places around who would take our guinea pig. We brought her in thin and lethargic with sunken eyes and picked her up after treatment and she was back to her old self again. They saved her life!!!! What impressed me most was the communication I got throughout the process from the hospital. There was a written cost and procedure plan before we started, several phone calls, and a detailed written summary of her treatment when I picked her up. Both the vet and the vet tech treated her like a thoroughbred horse (and not just a rodent) the entire time. You could tell they both truly loved all animals. Read Less

I have been bringing my African Greys Coco and Bubba there for years. Coco has been seen there for about 24 years and we have ever only had wonderful service from the Vets to the Vet techs. I take all of my dogs (and there are five at the moment!) to Littleton Animal and wouldn't dream of going anywhere else! :-) Whenever one of our Gemini Dogs asks for a veterinary referral, this is my first choice. They've always been there for us in emergencies, or for silly questions...over the years, we've seen all of the docs multiple times, and for a variety of reasons. We have spent thousands of dollars here and the service is so astoundingly poor.  I do not normally post but I am so disappointed in littleton animal and there lack of consideration to their customers. I too am a professional and called that I would be 10 minutes late for our parrot beak and nail trim, should we reschedule? (First time ever that I was late) No problem, the tech doesn't have any other clients.  I waited about 15 minutes for her to show up, 10 minutes to do a three minute job, and another 10 minutes for the receptionist to charge my credit card. The vets are very good and the hours are convenient. However be careful because the prices are higher than any of the surrounding clinics. We will pay anything to keep our pets healthy, but their standard services seem to be at a higher rate than other vets who can offer the same. Read Less

How do I love thee? I don't know if I can count the ways!  I have been taking all of my animals and some rescue animals to LAH for about 12 years now. I wouldn't go anywhere else. I ADORE the amazing Dr. Kilgore and her staff. They are the very best of the best. I have referred friends and they have been equally as pleased. I just adore the staff and most of the doctors there. They are just out for the money. I never get out of there for less then $400.. for a check up, a test or two and or a  thing of medicine.. They didn't listen to my concerns or much of what I had to say. My dog had a couple things I wanted to discuss and they just wanted to worry about one thing at a time.. Well, 3 office visits later and $1500 later and still my dog is having issues.. all they cared about was the money they would call the following day to see when I could schedule a follow-up. I just got in the mail they now recommend two office visits a year!!! I will gladly take my money else where thank you very much. I will not be back and I do not recommend this place to anyone. My cat was sick and I stopped in on a whim to as some questions on urgency... Let me say, this place was wonderful. The receptionist at the front (Elizabeth?) was totally helpful and eased my worry while still guiding me to bring him in.... I did and the doctor was also very nice, ensuring me he was ok, but needed treatment. She helped me decide how proceed and even where to bring him to the emergency vet... Which is where I am now, but point is, they guided me on what to do within my means and told me what red flags to look for as his treatment progresses. Read Less

I love all the vets here.  They are very knowledgeable about parrots, which is important because not all practices take birds, or if they do, they may not really know what they're talking about.  Not the case at LAH.Unfortunately, the fees continue to go up and up and up.  Don't get me wrong, vets have every right to be paid for their expertise.  But a few examples: I recently took my small bird in for a wing clip, it was $25.  Fyi, a wing clip takes about 90 seconds.  Next, my bird was sick and I took him in and paid for an exam, tests, meds, etc.  A fair chunk of change.  Three weeks later, I wanted to take him in for a follow-up to confirm he was improved.  A "follow-up" was almost as much as the initial visit ($7 less, I believe).  I thought that was outrageous, considering it was a follow-up to an existing problem (on which, PS, I had spent a ton of money the first time).Also, I have noticed an increasing trend toward the vets trying to "upsell" me vitamins and foods.  On one hand, it shouldn't bother me b/c I can always say no, thank you.  On the other hand.... it bugs me considering what I'm already paying for the veterinary services.  And friends have told me this is becoming common everywhere.Overall I love LAH, but I will probably shop around a bit to see if there is somewhere else I like just as much with lower fees. I've brought my rabbits to Littleton Animal Hospital for years. Everyone is always friendly, they've always been great about seeing my pets last minute for sick visits. They're very knowledgeable and comfortable handling small animals. I've been to several different vets who treat exotics and unfortunately witnessed some make fatal errors that cost one of my rabbits his life. Littleton Animal Hospital was actually able to put a catheter into this rabbit as he was literally dying and temporarily saved his life. If this rabbit had been treated by them originally I have no doubt he would have survived, but the oversights and general lack of familiarity with rabbits at the other vet were too much.Since then I will never take my rabbits anywhere else. I make the hour long drive because I trust them completely with my rabbits. Read Less

I love Littleton Animal Hospital!  I adopted a lovely rabbit, only to find out that he had chronic dental problems.  I was referred by my vet in NH, and have never looked back.  Owen must be seen each month to keep his teeth filed down, with a two-week follow-up each time, and I happily make the drive from Hudson, NH 2X a month to see Dr. Doidge and all the other excellent people who work there.  My bunny is happy and healthy thanks to Littleton Animal Hospital, and he loves going there just as much as I do! If your birds are in need of an avian vet then make your appointment with Dr. Kilgore of Littleton Animal Hospital.  Dr. K is one of the best in New England and I've lived in several Northeast states. Many vets tout themselves as avian vets because they attend a seminar or two, however Dr. K trained at Tufts University concentrating in avian medicine and avian surgery.  My african grey was near death when brought to LAH and Dr. K. saved its life.
