Dr. Ziegra handled the paperwork when we went for each visit leading up to her departure and he was so thorough making sure everything was in order so she wouldn't encounter any issues going through customs. When my cats have required medication, testing or even surgery, the docs have been very upfront about the different options. They are budget conscious -- they give all of the options to assess/treat the animal and then give a recommendation of the best option(s) from a veterinary standpoint so that you're not doing lots of tests at once if one test would likely be the best option. I got my bunnies' nails trimmed here.  At my request, the techs spent a good amount of time showing me how to do some things as a new Bunny Mom.  However, I am taking a star off for the HEFTY cost, and they were not trimmed at an angle, or filed leaving them sharp and painful with inadvertent scratches later - because of the poor parking situation to visit the hospital.  They do have a tiny driveway at their entrance with about 2 spots, but it's filled...by employees?  I was the only customer, so frustrating to have to find side of street parking which is very limited, when it would have been a wonderful service to pull in and walk in, and leave quickly.  Nevertheless, I would go back and ask for some filing with a future trim. My boyfriend and I own two dogs. We recently moved to Malden and one of our dogs is a rescue from GDRNE that has been with us for only a month when we visited Malden Animal Hospital. (GDRNE is great, btw)We were looking for a new vet for both of them, as their last exams were with the rescue (for the adopted dog) and in another state (for our old dog). We first visited VCA in Everett, but we weren't very happy with how that went. Malden Animal Hospital is walking distance from Malden Center, which is already very convenient. We waited very little (enough to fill up the paperwork) and there was no confusion over our appointment. Both dogs were brought in for the exam together, which was really nice as they're generally calmer when they're near each other. A vet tech admitted us first, asked general info, checked paperwork and also gave all relevant info (big plus). The dogs were examined by Dr. Scott Hamberg. He expertly handled both dogs-a 9 yo shy Great Dane and a 6 mo energetic mutt (who didn't even realize he was being examined). He explained everything he was doing, along with providing explanations for all the testing options and all the preventive treatments available, which was really great. He suggested a few specific things for both dogs that was not addressed at VCA at all (dry snout, allergies, etc). They also threw in a few freebie treatments, which saved us money, and that's always good. For me, the best part of our visit was that they've let us train our younger dog on how to approach unknown dogs with the vet tech's dog who was lounging in their back office. This is something we have been working on since we adopted him and an even tempered, calm dog like the one they had there was perfect for it. The techs in attendance AND the people at the front desk were incredibly nice-I wish I had kept their names for this review, but I am hoping the honorable mention will do for now. All in all, Malden Animal Hospital was a very pleasant experience, for both our dogs and us. Personnel seems very skilled and experience and they communicate all details to the pet owners, which is incredibly important. I highly recommend them for any dog owners in the area. Read Less

My dog "Scooby," tested positive for Lyme Disease at our yearly "low cost shot clinic," and the kind staff were able to get me in to see "Dr.Z," that very same day! I am the type of person that needs to be handled "with kid gloves," because I have anxiety issues, so I was quite upset and overwhelmed when I arrived there. "Dr.Z," really took the time to explain everything to me, and answered all of my questions. He did not want to do anything that he felt was unnecessary just to make a buck, which most other vets do. I really appreciated that. He was very calming, caring, understanding, and respectful of our own individual needs (Scooby's and mine!). The staff were also extremely helpful and really nice! Words cannot express my gratitude for the way we were treated throughout this whole process. Thank you! Read Less

Best vet experience I could imagine. While long term cat sitting, our cat ended up with UTI symptoms. The clinic took us right away, were reasonably priced, and the service was outstanding. The doctor helped us through trouble shooting numerous symptoms and cost benefit analyses of plans of action. I--and the cat--was treated with dignity and tenderness. The doctor followed up when I called back multiple times with additional questions. This whole experience makes me wish they took human patients as well as animals. I can not recommend them, and specifically dr. Ziegra, highly enough! Read Less

This place is the best. The whole staff has always treated us like family, and our relationship with Dr. Ziegra has been an extremely positive one. His communication style is clear and educative, and I love that he's always weighing efficacy against financial cost and physical risk when recommending treatment paths. He and his team took excellent care of our cat Tigger who suffered through thyroid problems and lymphoma. They were also very supportive as we had to make the difficult decision to put Tigger to sleep after a long and uncomfortable battle with his illness. Dr. Ziegra and his team now take care of our two cats, Shelly and Mae, and they've been just as proactive and careful with them as they had been with Tigger. Our cat Shelly has been experiencing some dramatic and concerning symptoms over the past week, and Dr. Ziegra has been there every step of the way as we've been navigating hospitalization and tests to figure out what's going on with her. We know that no matter what the medical outcome is with Shelly, Dr. Ziegra is always going to be honest, supportive, and in our corner. From a pure business perspective, we've found the staff and the vet techs to be extremely friendly and professional.  The physical space is clean, bright, and open and you can tell that the staff always trying to stay current with their tools, medications, and treatment methods. Malden Animal Hospital provides a one-stop shop for vacation boarding, clipping nails, picking up prescription food, and regular veterinary check-ups. Their prices are reasonable, given the high quality of the care, and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend Dr. Ziegra and the Malden Animal Hospital to any of my friends. Read Less

I used to take my cats here growing up (90's, early 2000's). When my 14 year old cat stopped eating, we took her in to be seen. We did blood work, determined she needed an ultrasound- which diagnosed her with lymphoma. Our vet at the time, Dr. Parisi, was wonderful. He didn't try to push us into chemo or anything extreme and we medically managed her until she passed. The staff was wonderful to us and her at all her follow up visits. A few months later we adopted a new kitten who, much like many shelter cats, had a bad upper respiratory infection and was sneezing multiple times a day. We took her in and found out that Dr. Parisi had retired which we were very upset about.  However, she saw Dr Hamburg who was great, and hesitant to put a young cat on antibiotics. It was nice to see a doctor that didn't throw medication at an animal just to make a quick buck. She ended up being fine and it cleared up on its own. I have not been back to Malden Animal Hospital since this visit, as I finished school and became a certified veterinary technician and take my pets to my job instead. However, if I ever needed treatment in a pinch I would not hesitate to take them to this hospital. Read Less

We had been going to Malden Animal Hospital from 20 years, 1990-2010. Initially it was a pretty standard veterinarian experience and we had no complaints. The last few years we were going there, however, things were starting to change. We started to dread being seen  by Dr. Parisi. He was usually gruff, and at times, just plain out to rude to us.  He would try to oversell like crazy, then criticize if you didn't agree 100% with his suggestions, and criticize you if you didn't buy every product he instructed you too- trying to make you feel like you don't care about your pet. Again, overselling tactic. Just not appreciated, especially  when you're dealing with a pet's serious medical condition, or discussing euthanasia. Could use a lesson in bedside manner. Our last encounter with them was in 2010 when we had to put down one of our cats We still have a cat, but we will not be taking her to Malden Animal Hospital, unless it was absolutely necessary.

Read Less

I brought my cat Harry in last May for an appointment to see if he needed some teeth pulled. Having been quoted an OUTRAGEOUS price for dental work at another animal hospital, we came here. I met with Dr. Hamberg and he answered the many questions I had. I was able to schedule my cat's surgery for the next week and when I came to pick him up, I could tell he had been well taken care of. Harry recovered quickly! When I came back in a month later for his shots, Harry didn't even flinch!
