I have been going here for about three months now. I was bringing my dog to porter square vet before I had finally had enough of their terrible care. My dog has been really sick for about a year and porter square vet was saying it was something viral every time I brought him in almost every month. I then moved onto looby and they have been exceptional. They have always fit me into the schedule. They have actual conversations over the phone with you and they seem like they really care. As soon as the vet saw my dog they knew something was really wrong with him. We immediately started making a plan on what to do next. We have done lots of blood work and the prices are reasonable and they always call back the next day with the results. I have never had to call them to ask for the results like I used to at the other vet. They figured out that he had low b12 and he's getting the shots to help him. One time they did the blood work after confirming it over the phone and I didn't have to pay until the next time I went in. There is still something else wrong with him but we are still trying out new diets. Dr. Looby calls me at 8 am and explains everything to me and includes me in the process and asks me what I think about it all. He is very personable and you can tell through the phone that he cares. Not only because it's his business but because he cares about your animal. The staff there is awesome and have always been extremely friendly. Even when my dogs are acting wild from excitement lol. I will not take my dog here anymore, such a bad experience with Jackie being so rude and impatient that it made me feel very uncomfortable, so much so that I do not want this rude and impatient behavior around my dog or myself.  Then after telling a friend about my experience, i was told that they had the same experience with her as well and no longer brings her dog there.  Way to go Miss Jackie maybe you should look for another job. A good local veterinary practice with very considerate and capable doctors. The only reason I didn't give 5 stars is at some point the diagnostics may require going to Angel Medical or another specially animal hospital. However Looby is excellent if your animal is healthy and needs vaccines or food. Read Less

I love it here, even though the past 2 days have been pretty expensive....my cat had to come in for emergency tooth removal.  Sadly, they had to take the rest of her teeth out (I knew this going in; she was born with terrible teeth). They took her the next day, so that she wasn't in pain anymore.  The vet explained everything in detail, what the follow up is, etc.  They couldn't be nicer here. I'm glad I found them! Read Less

I have taken 2 cats and 2 dogs to Dr Looby for over 25 years! I have never had a bad experience or felt short changed with time of appointments. The staff has been pleasant , professional and personal. They aren't a hard sell practice for services or products .  I have also dealt with Dr Maui and Dr Thomas and have been very happy with them also.  Jackie, one of the techs has been there a long time and knows her stuff!  Compassionate care is there! Since having a bad experience at the emergency vet. We thought we would try this veterinarian  since its local . Well they take your info to set up the appointment and then they want 75.00 deposit over the phone before even seeing the pet. I didn't have my cc on me so i couldn't book the appt for our pet. Would of been nice if they offered to make the appt and let me pay when i got there but what did it come down to as usual? MONEY MONEY MONEY Read Less

We take our three cats and dog there to see Dr. Trzcinski. She is amazing. Kind, gentle, intelligent, and extremely warm and pleasant to deal with. We love having her as our pets' vet. However, we have gone in twice with emergency situations involving two different cats. We saw Dr. Thomas. While I trusted her assessments and agreed with her decisions (both cats had to be put down), her demeanor and bedside manner left much to be desired. We had our young son with us, and she was not sensitive to that fact at all when presenting us with the reality that our cats were terminal. A little sensitivity can go a long way -- she basically had none. She's not great with people, but was gentle with our cats. We do find the staff and techs very professional and pleasant. When our cats were put down, they sent us a card with their paw prints. That was a thoughtful gesture that we appreciated. Scheduling has always been easy, and appointments flexible. Overall, I'd give Trzcinski and the staff 5 stars, but Thomas threw that off. Maybe a smile every now and then would help. Read Less

Dr Looby is great-  I usually see Dr. Maui when I go and she is FANTASTIC!!  I've brought all 3 of my cats here- 1 of my cats gets uti's which can be very dangerous & they always get me in quick (same day) and Dr. Maui always gets my little boy feeling better so quickly!  One time my cat had a bad uti where there was blood in his urine and Dr Maui loaded him with fluids gave him meds and prescription food & ran tests-  she even called my cell phone after hours to check how he was doing!  Thankfully he got better because of her care!  Thank you Doc for helping my boy-  my pets are family to me!!  I will never change vets!  This place is great and all of the staff are super friendly!! We are new to Medford so we thought we'd give them a try with our new rescue dog because they are close to our house. Nothing remarkable. One vet tech seemed knowledgable and showed compassion and warmth to the dog. However, the other tech was indifferent and seemed annoyed at most anything he was asked to do.  We saw Dr. Thomas who seemed distracted for most of the appt.  She walked into the room without introducing herself or even asking much about the dog at first. I had to keep reminding her the dogs age (10) and I seemed to know more about the breed. There were moments of clarity but I left underwhelmed from the interaction.  I shared the dog's history (and brought the old medical records) but it seemed to go in one ear and out the other. I am going to assume multitasking wasn't her thing.  I am used to vet office's with a bit more bedside manner and personality.  Also, as a new patient I was surprised that there was absolutely 0 new patient paperwork to fill out. That seemed odd. And also as a new patient the exam was a total of 10 minutes. Once again, strange. I might try them one more time and see if I can get Dr. Looby who gets good reviews.  But overall we left disappointed in the overall interaction and experience. Read Less

I bring my cats there all the time and they are always very excellent in helping them to get better. I love Dr. Thompson, she is the best and very caring about animals. I highly recommend them. My oldest cat Woody passed away and now her sister Sabrina is about to go soon also, poor babies. I had them for nearly 18 years. I will get a dog or puppy next and will be happy to have them take care of my dog as well.Read Less

We have been taking our dogs and cat to Looby Vet for a couple of years on the recommendation of a friend.Our cat had chronic renal failure, and Dr. Thomas  was very kind, caring, and supportive throughout the last months of her life. She was direct in telling me what was happening and my cat's prognosis, and offered options for how to care for her.  She specializes in cat care and that was very clear. Sadly, we recently had to put her to sleep because her kidneys finally failed completely. Everyone at the office was kind and caring on the day we took her in to be put to sleep. We were allowed time to say goodbye, and her passing was very gentle.We also have two standard poodles, one of which has had some major and chronic health problems. The vets we have seen for them have all been knowledgeable, kind, and have taken the time to explain everything to us and answer our questions. Our dog Bubbles had to have a large cyst removed, which was done by Dr. looby. It was a major procedure and required a large incision. Dr. Looby spent a lot of time with us explaining everything once we had tried other options prior to surgery, and went over everything we needed to do to care for it following the surgery. Bubbles came through it well and recovered quickly and completely. He has also had chronic ear infections, which were treated in every way the vets could try. In the end we were referred to a specialist at Angell Memorial who has been very helpful.I am sad that we have recently decided to change vets because we are pretty far from Looby and are going to a vet who is much closer to home. We have been nothing but happy with the care and service we've received at Looby, everyone on the staff has been great. I've brought two different cats to Looby Vet Group over the last five years, and my pets have received superior care while I've received superior customer service. They've accommodated veterinary emergencies calmly and quickly (I still don't know how my old cat managed to tear off her Cone of Shame AND rip out her stitches in the space of 10 minutes, but she was crafty), and when my Maine Coon was in bad shape due to a genetic heart defect, they quickly referred us to the Mass Vet Referral Hospital in Woburn. After my baby passed, Dr. Trzcinski called me twice to express her condolences and make sure *I* was okay. My current cat is a healthy girl who bears her yearly visits with as much aplomb as a cat can have, and they take care of her very efficiently. We've had Drs. Looby, Trzcinski, and Thomas, and they've all been great.I've also had good experiences with the support staff -- the receptionists and techs have always been friendly and accommodating. Read Less

We just got our first dog. Not having ever used a vet personally, I don't have a lot to compare to, but I was very comfortable with Dr. Looby and all of the staff. They took time to answer every dumb question we had, and  clearly loves animals and knew how to handle our new rescue dog through all the poking and prodding. Dr. Looby has the personality of a knowledgeable old country doctor who has seen it all. This place is not a high-falutin' office or anything.  However, I have always gotten good pet care here.   Are the receptionists surly?  Yeah, sometimes.  Mostly not.   Dr. Looby is wonderful.  If he doesn't know exactly what to do next (I had a very sick kitty), he is willing to say so and help you seek more specialized help.  He called me once to check on my kittie's status a weekend night at 7:30pm.  So, I would recommend this place.  The other vets I've seen have been very good as well.  I felt the kids got good care, even though the building and location is very down home. There's only on street parking, which can be difficult if you're not prepared for that. Read Less

I used the services here for 17 years... and never once even met Dr. Looby. I got  a different vet every time in. The care they give is fine, but the service is horrible. You can make an appointment, but don't expect to be seen within 20 minutes of the time, even with more than one vet available.The breaking point for me came when I showed up for a 2:00 appointment but was kept waiting for 25 minutes while the staff chatted themselves silly and not another customer was in the building. When I went to pay out the surly receptionist told me they did not take my Discover... and when I asked them to just bill me she snarled "Can't you leave anything now?". I guess 17 years of paying their vet bills on time does not matter. When I wrote Dr Looby personally to tell him of his employee's less than personable manner, he did not apologize or even care that I was thinking of leaving. We have a 2 YO Italian greyhound that we had been taking to Dr. Looby's office since he was a Pup.  My actual experience with Dr. Looby was nothing but pleasurable, as he is a very knowledgeable Doctor that was able to convey any and all appropriate information in a very professional manner.However, the other Vets at doctor Looby's office completely missed a diagnosis of meningitis.  We had to take our dog to the hospital in Woburn to get the type of attention and care that was needed.Our dog is fine now, due to the extraordinary efforts by the Vets at the hospital in Woburn, but the entire experience was very scary and very costly.We believe that our dog's symptoms were quite obvious, and were just mis-diagnosed by the Vets at Dr. Looby's office, because they did not take the time or effort to listen to our input about the symptoms and run thorough and necessary tests.I am probably going to take my pup back to Dr. looby's office again, due to convenience, but I am only going to allow my dog to be seen by Dr. Looby in the future.
