Every time I call to order my pets food they either claim They never received my call or that no one ordered the food.. Then I got a phone call on two different occasions saying the food was in when it wasn't wasting my time. Vet was not gracious with my pet with her last visit. Currently looking for a new vet. I have been going here for years, Dr. Hennessey has to be the most compassionate caring person I have ever met. At Carr they care about your animal and there well being. I would advise anyone that wants an excellent facility to go there, you will not be disappointed.  I have older dogs and they are excellent with them, they never pressure you into doing unnecessary tests.  I live an hour and half away, but she is worth the drive.  I want my animals to have the best care they can and at Carr it is the best. So knowledgeable, kind, and THOROUGH!  I have a 12 year old Pomeranian who I had been taking to Amesbury Animal Hospital.  He had been going there for most of his life.  He needed some dental work, and I was quoted $2800.00 and they barely looked in his mouth.    I brought him to Carr Island.  I had them do a complete physical, and to get a dental quote.  They called me the next day, and told me that he needed more blood work because his levels were off the charts, they need to test possibly for Cushings Disease asap.  Amesbury animal hospital NEVER said a word about this to me, in all the labwork Teddy had.  I will never be back, they are crooks charging 3 times the amount for a dental that is necessary, and they don't look for possible problems in senior dogs.  I am a customer for life of Carr Island.  They know their stuff, and are not out to rob people blind.  Plus, they are very kind to the animals, I have seen it first hand.  They are just wonderful people. This practice is wonderful. We have a 15 year old dog who is a true member of the family. Old dogs require special care, conservative treatment and gentle handling. I never feel pressured to do unnecessary tests, try questionable medications or the like. The doctors are reasonable and listen to your concerns. I found Carr island after a terriable experience at the animal hospital  in NH once, I was made to feel like a horrible dog Parent bc I didn't want my dog to have an MRI, spinal tap and an app with a neurologist? The doctors at Carr island understand that not everyone has an endless budget and that is no reflection as to how much you love your pet. My pets are attended by a well seasoned country Doctor that I can trust, what more can you ask for? Read Less

Excellent service. We have a male bunny that needed to be neutered. They were so kind and caring. Not to mention professional and knowledgeable. The surgery went really well, and they called to tell us everything was fine. And also gave a courtesy call a day later to check on our little bun bun. They were also much more affordable than other vets in the area. I would totally recommend their services to all. So thankful to Carr Island!! Read Less

The best vet on the North Shore, maybe anywhere! Elizabeth Hennessy has supersonic ears - she can hear heartworms before the test even comes back. and a murmur from a mile away (ok I am exaggerating of course about the murmur) The Techs are very kind as well. Since I foster dogs as well as having 4 of my own, she has seen dozens of my dogs and she is always SPOT ON with her diagnoses. If there is something she doesn't know, she will FIND OUT. She doesn't believe in over-medicating and she's not "in it for the money" as are so many others. She truly cares about each and every animal that walks through that door. I decided to take my 14 year old hyperthyroid kitty to Carr Island Animal Hospital after my mom had a very bad experience trying to help an ill stray at the Amesbury Animal Hospital, and after reading around online. Merrimac takes good care of our greyhound, but they're a little test-happy and very expensive. Carr Island, though scarcely reviewed, had a reputation for being compassionate and not extortionate with tests and treatments. I was not disappointed. They were direct, honest, kind, and extremely helpful. A full battery of bloodwork and tests, fluids, a rabies shot and walking away with a bottle of pills came in at just under $300. Subsequent medications have been far less than I anticipated paying. They took my kitty as a new patient at the end of the day Monday, called me back before 10am Tuesday to give me a full walk through of the lab results on the phone, and had medicine waiting for me by 11am that same day. It was a fantastic experience. Without being prompted to by their office, I set up a check-up for kitty two weeks later. A different doctor helped me, we talked about the medication she was on, how it was working, and she mentioned she'd like to do all the tests again to see if the medication was having an effect. Rather than pressuring me about them or simply whisking kitty away to have them done, she asked me if I could afford them. When I hesitated (because I'm super broke), she then suggested we wait another two weeks so kitty would have a full month spent on the medicine, and asked if I could save up the money to have it done in that time.The vets at Carr Island don't just care about extending the life of your pet. They care about doing what's right for your pet, and they care about the toll it takes on the pet owner, financially and otherwise. On the recomendation of a Newfie breeder, we switched from Merrimac Valley Animal Hospital to Elizabeth Henessey at Carr Island.  I loved the office and atmosphere at MVAH, but had some problems with diagnosis.  Carr Island is the reverse:  minimal office atmosphere (but they are remodeling) but focused care with a no bs vet you can talk with.  All three of our dogs have gone there, and I'm happy to find someone to work with me on their issues!
