This place is completely BS. If you care about your pets you should not even consider bringing them here. The unnecessary tests would not save your pet's life, all they want is money!! The doctors do not know what to do with emergency cases, the most frequent words I heard from the doctors was "I don't know what's wrong with him, we need some more tests, and what am I doing now is all I can do", and the test results take days to come back, what if your pet dies during the time? (That's what happened with ours). I'm blaming myself every second for leaving my baby in the icu here and trusting the doctors, he must be so scared with these awful people. Btw even if you put your pet in the icu, they will not take a good care of him/her, because when we were visiting our pet in there, the dog nexts ours was shaking and having a hard time, none of them noticed that until we told them so. I drove to Tufts on a Saturday w/ my suddenly, deathly ill cat.  The tremendous intelligence and outstanding care brought to him by Dr. Clare Timothy made all of the difference in the cat's recovery.  No, it was not cheap---however, the case--w/ many complexities--would have been a lost cause anywhere else.  I am tremendously grateful. The only reason these guys get the stars that they do is because they're the only people that can save my cats life when it means the most. The rest gets a big zero! Why? I have a cat with megacolon. It requires a few meds and some special food. There is only med that i get from Tufts. I called today to get a refill. Told them I only needed one bottle knowing I could spend the 15.24 dollar pricetag. I let the woman on the other line know that someone else was picking it up and I'd like to give my card number so its already paid.... I came home to a receipt of 270 bucks! I did owe money for the leftover of the surgery but I only signed on for the medicine. No consent! Looks like I'm using a lot of whiteout on my checkbook! Read Less

The vets here did everything they could to save my guinea pig's life after we made the mistake of taking her to an untrustworthy local center. Although she did pass away as the vet from the local office gave too much Anastasia, they truly tried to make her better. They were genuinely sorry for the loss. This meant a lot to me, as there aren't many vet centers that care so much about guinea pigs. Read Less

I'm kind of obligated to write this review because they pretty much saved my dog's life. They performed scrotal ablation surgery on him 3 years ago because the area was very infected. He is a very timid dog and didn't do well with a cone and being confined to a kennel (which he never experienced before), so the whole experience was traumatic, got worse as the week went on, and I was losing way too much sleep, which affected my performance at work. After hearing him in so much pain, I had to proceed with a $1500 surgery. I do not regret it one bit. During this time, the staff was very professional and calm. They pulled through for us and I got to enjoy more years (and counting) of snuggling with my pupster now 13 years old. I'm sure if I didn't go through with it, he would have died. I'm very grateful to live just 25 minutes away from a 24h emergency animal hospital with experienced surgeons where I can bring my dog in at 3am when needed. Please don't ever close/move far away and please support this hospital. I'm sorry for anyone who had a poor experience. Read Less

Stay away from ROCA RODRIGO he is a criminal that cares nothing for your animal and is only there to GROSSLY overcharge you i went in to have my cat treated for a UTI blockage (have done procedure before $300 cost) i was told that it would be 2500$ and they needed to keep him for 36 hours I was appalled and was not willing to spend that much because i knew it was not right so i told them i could not do that and that i would have to Put the cat Down which i will say i do not take lightly at all and was very hurt by even having to think like that. Not even 5 mins later the NEW Quote was $600 and they could send me home with him and give him the medication and he will be fine in a week and that i should change him to new food. So as an animal lover i agreed and paid the $600 and was able to take my cat home. If i had not said anything about the price they would have charged me $2500. Also after i was given my cat back i went and wanted to speak to the VET ROCA RODRIGO and have him explain himself and the charges he was gone for the Night (BULLCRAP) so i then asked to speak with a Supervisor and was told that they cant comment on what he says at all and that we have to speak to him. So what it sounds like to me is since there are no reprecussions to being a scam artist at tufts VETS can do what they want and its word against word well Tough luck i have video and audio recorded the whole thing and i will be pushing this right up to a news media station and will be putting them right out in front so people know that they care about only the money and the pets are just a tool to get it from you Also he is just an intern upon further research that is not what im paying for when i go there i want a REAL VET for the kind of money they charge not a free worker because if they dont have to pay him why should i and i feel that it will make them not care about anything when they are just an intern. Take this as a promise i will be keeping track of where ROCA RODRIGO goes and to what Vets Clinic he goes to after his internship and i will be speaking with his Boss and then also telling everyone i know about him and to stay away from him and the Vets office that hired him This is not the first time that Tufts uses peoples love for there animals to EXTORT people for money. I've always brought my animals dogs cats and birds here, the staff is usually wonderful. They have wonderful programs for low-cost animal clinics. I have also surrendered animals wild and domestic bc of medical reasons and they've been incredibly kind and understanding all 3 times. A lot of vet offices out there say "Hospital " in the name of their business title and they aren't actually fully equipped to be called a hospital. If you care about your pet PLEASE take it to another hospital. Small summary below of the horrors we went through with a previously healthy dog who died in their care after having a surgical procedure at a different hospital and sent there after having a neurological episode after the procedure specifically to see a neurologist which didnt look at him for over 24 hours. He died a day later.This is an excerpt from a letter I wrote to their leadership team after his passing. It took them over 1 month to get his remains to me after they "forgot" about our request to have him cremated and dragged on the cremation. They didn't bother assigning a specialist to him or having a neurologist look at him despite him being brought there just for that.They euthanized him without my permission, then charged me for it, without giving me a chance to say goodbye.They charged me more than was quoted without once getting approval or telling me until after he passed away.After everything, they did NOTHING to make any of this right. 1. Initial doctor didn't bother reviewing his file before taking him in despite it being sent to them from another hospital and they were made aware it was an emergency.After arrival at the hosital to specifically see a neurologist he wasn't seen by one in over 24 hours.2. Why did it take more than 24 hours to take a look at Apollo when he was brought in BECAUSE of a neurological event?3. What happened during the time he was there and why was there no specialist that could deal with this case that knew how to deal with someone in his position? They KNEW that he was prone to clotting and prone to bleeding but the doctor looking after him admitted to me that he didn't know what to do and that a specialists advice would be needed. Why wasn't this specialist on Apollo's case in the first place?4. Why had accounting not called me EVER to tell me that I had spent more than the 3k that was first quoted and gotten my approval to charge me more than that? And only sent me a bill SIGNIFICANTLY higher than I had agreed to pay without having any knowledge of it? 5. Why did the night doctor administer Euthanasia WITHOUT my permission or knowledge? And if he wasn't euthanized, could he have survived and still been alive? And even if the answer is no, could I have been there when it was administered and had the chance to hold him, kiss him and say goodbye?6. Why have I not received his ashes in over 4 weeks, his body sitting in a "holding" pattern while I am mourning? No accountability. No one bothering to call us back when we call to find out why it is taking so long until I call again on Thursday night after receiving the bill. This is my child. This treatment of his body is massively disrespectful and is severely traumatizing for me to imagine and visualize in my head. My poor baby, dead, alone and forgotten. 7. And finally, the biggest question of all. Did I make the biggest mistake of my life sending my poor baby to Tufts? My family has brought our dog to Tufts 3 times in the four years we have had her. One time she spent a week in the ICU and the other two times were for spine surgery. All staff we dealt with went above and beyond to care for our dog and to accommodate us. The care animals get here is better than humans can expect at most hospitals. Certain depts are superb. Cardiology is one of them. Dr. Rush was beyond excellent in his care of my husky dog with heart disease. I could never thank him enough. His knowledge, care, and compassion was top notch. Oncology doctors - so helpful and knowledgeable. Most of the ER doctors are great. Knowledgeable and caring. Some intern/residents doctors are lacking and not what I expect when I am paying the amount that they charge. The Exotics dept *was* great. They are now enforcing certain hospital policies that will put your exotic pet's health and longevity at risk. If you do go there, just be prepared to question and research certain things they want to unnecessarily subject your pet to. It seems that Foster Hosp/Tufts policy makers care more about their bottom dollar than the health of the animal patient. Read Less

We had to lay our beloved Petey (Silky terrier) to rest saturday, 12/3/16, after 18 YEARS of unconditional love, affection and companionship. It was one of the most heart wrenching decisions we've ever had to make. A special thank you to ALL the staff, students and doctors at Tufts. They were ALL so caring from the moment we walked in, right through to our final walk out. Today, November 15, we had to say farewell to out beloved seven-year-old Rottweiler/mix, Otto. The care and compassion of Dr. Molly Holmes and her associates could not have been better. As is typical with Otto's breed, the bone cancer (osteosarcoma) had unknowingly become so rife throughout his body that, when standing on all fours to go in for examination, his hind leg simply broke at an horrendous 75-degree angle. Dr. Holmes' and her staffs' reaction was immediate and thorough. Otto received immediate pain relief and an x-ray was taken, which confirmed the worst. They made Otto thoroughly comfortable with food, water and blankets, while waiting for me to arrive from many miles away.(My wife had been with Otto all this time--he was not abandoned). A private room was made available to keep Otto comfortable, and we were allowed to spend as much time as we needed with our beloved family member before the end. I cannot express enough gratitude for Dr. Holmes and her associates in how they handled the final moments and the heart-wrenching parting that followed--their compassion and understanding helped us into the painful transition that follows the loss of someone so beloved as our Otto. Many, many heartfelt thanks to Dr. Holmes, her associates, and the Foster Veterinary Hospital for their compassionate approach to animal well-being.Read Less

While this is not ever a place I would say I hope you need to go to, the ER is really the tops now. ER service is immediate, and a tech is paged before you finish telling them your name. The tech will take your loved one into the back if they are in a crisis situation, or if it's less severe, allow you to wait with them. I won't lie when I say that the wait can be a bit long, but when you consider that they're stabilizing your family member, it's not a bad thing. We've gone here on three occasions with true and horrible emergencies, two of those times ending in euthanasia, and the staff has been wonderful. I have exotic animals (ferrets), and they are always treated kindly and gently. I do appreciate that the vets are not afraid to broach the subject of euth, only and especially when there is no happy ending available for my little ones. I have never felt that the staff was simply trying to wring money out of my pets. In a non-emergency situation (appointments), the wait can feel a little abysmal, but the staff is lovely, knowledgeable, and they play with my little ones when they are healthy. Their newest remodel expanded the waiting area from maybe 30 people to 70+, it's very open and airy now and there are outlets available for charging your phone. This is not ever a place I hope you'll need to go on short notice, but it is the place you should choose to go to if you need expert help quickly. Read Less

They took my dog in right away and on late notice. The opthalmologist even stayed late and waited for us to arrive knowing we had a 60 min ride there. The facility is spotless, staff is professional and explained everything in detail. Medication is going to be a life long thing. And surgery in three weeks. Worried about my dog having surgery but I trust them so much better than the place I've been brining him his whole life. Never feel stupid about getting a second opinion when it comes to your animal. It has taken me some time to get to the point where I can write a review of this horrendous place, as I have been mourning the 100% needless death of my beloved horse, due to the utter ineptitude of the equine veterinary staff at this godforsaken place. Please find below the report I gave on my mortality proof of loss form. And if you love your horse, DO NOT bring him here. They have no idea what they are doing.The resident vet at our barn, Dr. Parrott, had seen my horse a few weeks before I brought him here, due to lameness at the trot from his patella falling out of place. At the time, he did not think that there was much to be done surgically, but that in time Zorro would get used to the patella and work to keep it in place, thus not allowing him to do dressage or anything of that nature, but still live a full life of hacking on the trails or around the arena. While it was disappointing, I was okay with that and wanted to do whatever I could to keep him comfortable and around for many more years. He did say that he was going to check with a surgeon that he knew to see if there was anything he could do. A couple of weeks later he got in touch and said that Dr. Garcia at Tufts thought he could do something to help. Never was the possibility of euthanasia on the table, or I would have never brought him in. I took him to Tufts for his appointment weeks later (as they were pretty booked up). They did x-rays and ultrasound, and found him to be a good candidate for surgery. Dr. Garcia said that there was a 50/50 chance of it working, but if it did not he would not be any worse off than before. Had he said ANYTHING about the remote possibility of euthanasia, I would have hightailed it out of there faster than he could say "stifle." I agreed to try the surgery and he was scheduled for the next day. After the surgery, Dr. Garcia called to say that he was very pleased with how it went, but needed to see how Zorro was when he stood up. After he stood up, the patella went to the inside, unfortunately. He said he wanted to wait it out for a few days to see if Zorro would stand on it to make it go in place. At the time they believed it was due to a lack of muscle (which did not make sense as Zorro had not been out of work for very long). It wasn't until they did the second surgery that Dr. Garcia saw that he had shredded the tissue. It was over the weekend that euthanasia was first brought up, as the vet tech told me that it was either a second surgery to give him a fighting chance, or to put him down. Of course, I opted for the second surgery. The second surgery was scheduled for the following Tuesday. Again, Dr. Garcia was happy with how it went, until Zorro stood up and immediately shredded the tissue again in stepping back. At that point he said that there was nothing more to be done and Zorro would need to be put down. "No worse off," right.....DO NOT bring your horse to these people. If even one person reads this and decides against bringing their horse here, then my beloved Friesian's death won't be completely in vain. Read Less

We have been going to Tufts for about 8 yrs for our dog's epilepsy. The Dr's and staff at Tufts are amazingly caring, loving and passionate about what they do. Our current neurology Dr, Dr Faissler is an amazing man. Each time we've had to hospitalize our dog the staff has been wonderful and the post-op care/follow up for any issues excellent. Read Less

I've brought two dogs here and the first sadly was too late as had pancreatitis w bleeding internally and Acton Animal emergency held my Gokden necessarily with not treatment and is in my humble opinion responsible for that dogs loss of hope of any chance but Tiuft's although it is a jolt to have to come up with 75% of treatment high estimate which was $3590 for my 1st Golden in Seotembeg 2007 but for my Bichon thought to have brain tumor it was almost $5000 and that is more that mosh families ca afford even in MA but if anyplace can save your dogs life this us it.. So aid recommend trying to pay to get treatment and then working with them if you cannot reach full payment. My Bichon had suexutess and was e i.e. text I have brain tumor and likely possibly not Mage it but they discovered a rare Bot Fly and it had laid eggs in Y dogs eye which in Bicobs is black so camouflage of fly larvae evades easy detection esp as they burrow into the nasal canal behind eye! It's disgusting but luckily thoug it too level MRI they reacted tha bot fly and believe it's still bronzed in the ER as memory of one in -10 Million rare cases as these flies normally reside in Bekize in tropics neighbor has horse farm so suspect only reason is all horse flies in my block! Now I have 2nd Gokden w likely brain em tumor with weakness a D falling as diagnosis on referral seems likely that MRI will show one or two tumors hoping benign but in brain if impinging on motor never areas surgery may not he possible although perhaps they could remove portion of growths if benign or malignant then course of treatment is either radiation if malignant but seems receptive to that or steroids if benign to shrink inflammation and relive cranial pressure. We go tomorrow but I have high faith in this hospital that they will be ale to salvage another decent year or so with my 8 year old Cream Gokden as not ready to say goodbye yet and it's devastating thet such Heakthy dig 3 months ago could turn so quckly to awful disgnosis. Prayer and Tufts vets are all we have now so will follow up if things go okay if not probably won't have emotional strength for a long while. Great vet hospital if dig is very such go straight here don't waste precious time at local vets as it can be diff of pets kije or death in my humble opinion! Read Less

We had to put our best friend down a few nights ago, and the staff could not have been nicer. Not once did they question our decision, for which we were terribly grateful; it was hard enough making that decision in the first place. The students that helped us were incredible, and Dr. Amelie Beaumier-Primeau, who performed the euthanasia, was especially kind. We will always be grateful for her compassion and understanding. This is the worst place to take your pet. You will be charged exorbitant fees to have your pet treated by students. At night there are no veterinarians in house for emergencies... Just STUDENTS! Your pet becomes practice For seriously inept and ignorant students. Stick around at night all you hear are animals screaming in pain! You will be charged ridiculous amounts of money in order for them to build their new hospital! Do not go here! No compassion! They suggested my dog have bilateral ACL surgery when I took him to another vet all he had was Lyme disease and this was treated with antibiotics! Brought my horse in for a last ditch effort to get help for his severe breathing issues.  I have to say that the pulmonary specialist, Dr Melissa Mazan, helped me to understand what I needed to do to get my horse back up and running again. Although he has permanent damage to his lungs from years of misdiagnosis and wrong meds, after my visit to Tufts,  and following Dr Mazan's explicit instructions, he is finally breathing well again.  I had a very good experience at Tufts Hospital for Large Animals and would go back again. I agree with your posts, they are crooks out to rape innocent people who just want to care for their pets. They remind me of a garage, you bring your car in for an oil change and they find all sorts of other costly stuff! Working there I can say there are a handful of good people. But beware, a pet died last night due to crappy facilities for walking pets. He escaped and got hit by a train. Awful! And I'm sure they will charge the clients too! They treat the employees, who love your pets, like shit. the turnaround is high which means you never have the same person treating your pet. They have turned into corporate instead of a loving compassionate facility they once was. The prices they charge?? You would think some would be invested in equipment,nope using the same shit from 30 years ago. State of the art my ass. The specialists here are the best. I bring my dog here to see the cardiology department. They take the time to answer all my questions, show me his echocardiograms and explain the process. Always return calls quickly when i have problems. Just the best! Read Less

My almost 3 year old terrier mix was hit by a car going at least 35-40 mph. Almost 2 hours later we arrived at tufts. She was dehydrated, had internal bleeding, had shock to the lungs and was having trouble breathing, and a huge cut on her leg. They rushed her in saying the next 12 hours were critical and didn't know if she'd get better or worse. My doctors were sympathetic and answered all my questions. They even worked with me on finances. I called 2 times that night and they were patient and gave me updates. By the next morning she had already shown major improvements and 2 days later she is now home with me recovering everyday. This hospital saved Lacey's life. I'm forever greatful. Read Less

My experience at Tufts suggests that the review of Denise A (9/26/14) is accurate.  If you choose to go to Tufts always ask for the most likely cause of your pet's problem. Be sure to question the need for costly tests that are often unnecessary, but costly.  Also, always ask to speak to the Attending Vet (experienced vet) who is in charge of your case.  In my case, the attending vet, Dr. Mary Labato, never saw my pet and never even looked at the records.  The complete care of my pet was left in the hands of the inexperienced who made mistakes and never administered a necessary medication, but I was charged for it.  I was charged $4700.00 for this negligent care. I just want to say thank you for the outstanding and wonderful care you gave my puppy Otto. Even though we lost him I know your heart and soul went into everything you did for him and for us we miss him terribly but we find comfort in knowing he died with dignity and surrounded with such amazing doctors and students. BEWARE - BEWARE don't go to this hospital.   This year I have had to go to Tufts twice for my dogs and each time they tried to keep her overnight stating they had to perform multiple tests on her and that it would be significant costs.  Each time I refused and each time my dog was perfectly fine.  What finally prompted me to write this review is because I feel everyone should know what a money scam this operation is.  As I sat in the waiting room, I noticed that people brought their animals in and overhearing many of the conversations between the tech and owners, each owner was persuaded to leave their pet there for tests, etc.  My most recent visit was for my dogs third eyelid which was inflamed.  The tech comes out, does NOT even touch my dog, just stares at her for 10 seconds and says we need to call in a specialist - ophthalmologist and that it was cost $450 and was I willing to do that.  I suggested that maybe there was something in the eye they could flush out and give drops for because, I said, as a vet hospital, surely after seeing 1000s of dogs that someone must have seen this before and there was no way this was the first time ever they saw that.  So the tech proceeded to say she would take my pet out back for evaluation.  The dog came in and said oh its definitely a mass behind the eye and we need the consult of an ophthalmologist and that again, it would be $450 and was I willing to spend it.  (at this point I am noticing how they only care what I am willing to spend so basically my dogs diagnosis is a deep pocket theory.  The doctor said that I would not be able to speak with the specialist (even though I paid for the specialist) so that we my second red flag.  So after waiting hours for the supposed specialist, I asked about my dog and the doctor came out and said the specialist saw her and confirmed his suspicions about a mass.  and that it would cost $1000s now because we needed a CT scan and a cardiac test and on and on.  I asked to speak with specialist and doctor said "remember I told you that you can't speak with specialist?".hmmmmm I thought - so odd.  I then proceeded to say I would get a second opinion and the doctor said ok, that's fine but will I bring my dog back to them for all the necessary tests?? (third red flag).  I said I don't know but could I get antibiotics and see if that helps and he was adamant that it would penetrate the abscess and but that he would give it to me.  So we went home.  NExt morning my dogs eye was fine - she had dirt in her eye - that was it!!!  So between a vet that sees 1000s of dogs and a so-called specialist, neither of them could see it was just inflamed?!?!?!?!  So I decided to call the so call specialist because I had no record of him seeing her other than my payment, no notes, etc.  I called three days in a row and Dr. LoPinto NEVER called me back and it's because he NEVER saw her but I paid for it.  I am in the process of disputing this and filing a claim with the board of veterinarian medicine.  This place is run like a used car dealership.  No one leaves with their animals, they push and push and push for you to commit to all sorts of tests.  Absolutely shameful the deceptive practices of preying upon people and their emotional status at the time.  BEWARE -go to the hospital in RI they are way better! I gave a lot of thought before posting this review because I know that Tufts is supposed to have a stellar reputation for veterinary care. However, after multiple, disappointing  interactions with this clinic (Foster veterinary hospital for small animals) I can safely say that this place is a total money grab. They will squeeze you for every penny they can get out of you at a time when you're most emotional and vulnerable. I feel they prey on pet owners' love of their pets and desperation make their pets well. For example, the vets will often come up with extremely elaborate & complex treatment plans involving all sorts of diagnostics & laboratory tests etc...rather than starting with the most basic potential treatment based on the dog's obvious symptoms and age - and going from there. Does your dog have a cough? You can pretty much guarantee that your going to be told that your dog has a potentially serious and dire condition (heart condition/tracheal collapse) and requires x-rays, an EKG and lab work, etc... All in the name of "diagnostic thoroughness" and "we're doing what's best for the dog". Puh-Leeze...I can tell you when I go to my doctor complaining of a simple cough they don't necessarily order an EKG and a chest X-ray.  I went on YouTube and listened to dozens of veterinarian posted videos of coughing dogs and I heard the distinct difference between a cough of a tracheal collapse (like a goose honk/reverse sneeze) and simple kennel cough (often a dry hacking cough - sometimes w/just a hint of that "honk" sound-and sometimes with a foamy saliva discharge).   My dog clearly had the latter..but they kept insisting that my dog likely had "tracheal collapse" (because apparently it's common in dogs of this age)...but I knew from my dozens of hours of online research - and the fact my dog had more of a hacking dry cough that it appeared to be classic kennel cough - and even if I was wrong, can we go the conservative treatment path first?. By the way, I would suggest you avoid Dr. Jardes. He out right refused to prescribe a simple antibiotic by phone unless I returned to Tufts so they could do even more elaborate and traumatizing diagnostic tests (on a 15 year-old Maltese) for a simple cough!  I tried to explain every time I took my dog to Tufts he wouldn't eat for two days after, was shaking the entire time and was completely traumatized.  My senior dog cannot handle that kind of stress. I'm just trying to keep him comfortable -  I'm not looking to have open heart surgery or surgery for tracheal collapse surgery on my poor 15 year old Maltese - and if there is a simple and less invasive option (read: antibiotics) as a first course of action, then why not go that route first and explore more elaborate treatment plans after??  Nope - Dr. Jardes' attitude was totally snarky & arrogant - completely lacking in compassion. I don't think I will soon forget how dismissive and glib this doctor was at a time when I was panic stricken about the strong hacking cough my poor little dog was experiencing. By the way Dr. Jardes -if you're reading this -  I got the clavamox from another veterinarian (Dr. Nick Kotsopolous in Worcester, awesome guy) and it worked great. My 4 year old dachshund got diagnosed with a severe herniation of the disc about 6 months ago. I came home to him in excruciating pain and unable to move his back legs. Words cannot begin to express the amount of fear and panic I experienced. I met with 2 of the nicest and most incredible neurologists at 3am to have an emergency IVDD surgery. They were very upfront and told me the 50/50 shot my pup had for walking. I decided to take the risk and have the surgery. I got update calls 2x/day from the nurse and neurologist that performed the surgery, as well as pictures of him since he has to be there for over a week and I live 3 hours away. I couldn't have asked for a better experience and would absolutely recommend Tufts to anyone. My pup just within the last 2 weeks finally is beginning to walk and I couldn't be more ecstatic. It's unbelievable to me that people are on here complaining about wait times and cost. I would have paid anything to not have to watch an animal I consider my child suffer anymore, things come up in a animal hospital that quite frankly are prob more important than getting your dog a booster shot or stitches removed. People are unreal with the amount of inconsideration and insensitivity, really you have no idea what case doctors are treating beyond the entry doors.Read Less

This is in response to David HB. My cat Boots survived a blood clot to his front paw and is doing very well. Yes, they are very expensive but they have saved my almost 16 year old cat from certain death at other animal hospitals (renal failure once and blood clot and dehydration/sepsis the 2nd time). They are careful not to promise that they will always be successful. Boots is sleeping on my lap right now and is still getting around and has a good quality of life. Without Tufts and Dr Labato, in particular, he would be dead. Read Less

Our cat, Pippin, had a number of seizures on Tuesday morning. The local vet was able to stop them, but recommended we take her to Tufts and we did on Wednesday. It is Saturday now and we just got her back home with us and I felt compelled to write this. The staff at Tufts was impeccable - especially Dr. Sutton. Not only did they take phenomenal care of Pippin, but they were a great comfort to us as well. We were able to visit her several times over the course of the three days she was there, and everything about her care was explained in full detail. Even when things looked bleak, Dr. Sutton eased our minds by telling us about how Pippin was eating again, and carefully licking the gravy off her food, and setting the cubes back down in her bowl. I was worried about the cost initially, and while it wasn't cheap, it was well worth it. They were kind enough to request some financial assistance even though we had not asked for it, an act that I am humbled by and so thankful for. This is truly an incredibly caring group of people, and I won't ever think twice about trusting Pippin's care with them again. Not even 45 minutes since we've been home, and Pippin has been bounding around the house, climbing stairs, and has even found her favorite toy and chased it around my office as I write this. All from a cat who was, roughly 80 hours ago, having awful seizures on my kitchen floor. That's so incredible that I cannot put it into words. My dog Dozer was taken to Tufts June 2013 in critical condition. He has a 3rd degree AV block and needed a pacemaker. There were concerns that he wouldn't make it through the night in time for cardiology to do what they needed to do. Tufts took such great care of him and kept my family posted through every step. Dozer was never alone and there was always someone watching over him through every step. It has been a year ago today that Dozer received his pacemaker. He is a happy 9 year old dog now and enjoys chasing leaves and playing in his pool. We return to Tufts every 3 months for his follow-ups and are continually impressed by their care for animals and their expertise. I can only say good things about this place and am forever grateful for the time they have given me with Dozer. I would recommend them to anyone. Read Less
