Horrible experience there. Been 3 times all 3 times was treated so rudely.. and it wasn’t just me. Bought my pup in to be neutered and was told I could get him the next day ! I’ve never heard of this ecspecially since I dropped him for 8 am... when I voiced my concerns the women totally disregard them and tried to bring my pup in .. I’ve owned many animals and I’ve never heard of this!! And they never mentioned when I had him there two weeks prior ! Needless to say... my pup wasn’t neutered today... I wouldn’t recommend them. My new puppy was there for his 1st check-up. Everyone was knowledgeable, our Vet Dr. Makuc was very helpful answering my questions, giving helpful suggestions on house training, helping develop his temperment with our children. Had a friend with an emergency & was turned away! She was willing to even pay the emergency fee of $140!!!! Horrible, do NOT recommend. Called when our own vets office was closed being a Friday night and my sweet baby Pooka had her 2nd seizure in 24 hrs. The woman that answered the phone was compassionate and very helpful and got us in to see a dr without any problem. The women in the front were friendly and pleasant to deal with as was Dr. Makuc, the vet, we saw that day. Set up appointment for our new puppy from the Humane Society before the visit our little guy ingested some grass seed. He wasn't moving or eating so we called and all we were told was a phone number for a pet poison control site that charges $49 to answer your question. Should of asked for the number of a caring vet. Canceled appointment going to Pittsfield Vet. Hospital because they cared and helped. Won't let me post no stars. Read Less

When my dog got very sick when we were visiting in the Berkshires we needed a veterinarian in a hurry.  We brought him in as an emergency at the facility that was closest, and were told that they couldn't see him.  We then found Berkshire Veterinary Hospital, and they fit him right in.  Unfortunately he needed to be hospitalized for 5 days.  During that time we spoke to several of the doctors on call.  Each one took time to answer all of our questions and concerns.  Our dog received wonderful care the entire time that he was in the hospital, and through his recuperation after he was released.  We are grateful for their care, not only of our dog, but of us! Berkshire Veterinary Hospital is excellent!  We took our dog there from another Vet Clinic in the area for a second opinion on a double tooth extraction.  Not only did they get him in quickly, they were very thorough and in the end stated he did not, in fact, need those 2 teeth removed at this time, and may not ever need them removed.  They removed a small "slab" of tooth instead, saving our dog anesthetic, an overnight stay and the pain of extraction, as well as saving us over $850.00.  Thank you Dr. Makuc, Cathy Hall and the staff of Berkshire Veterinary Hospital, our new Vet! My experience is they charge high rates and select the most expensive procedural care options and/or drugs when administering animal care. In addition, their estimates for cost of care do not match the final costs when bills are presented.This establishment places the highest priority on generating revenue while providing animal care in a county setting for your pet. To Bob413--Yes, Berkshire Vets can be pricey, no doubt. I have been bringing my dogs to them since 1998, and believe me, you get what you pay for. I have never experienced anything but kindness, concern, and tender care for my pets. They have gotten me through cancers, and other emergencies. They call me with concerned well being checks, and being open 24/7, if I have a dog spending the night there I can call at 3 AM if I want to, and see how my fur baby is doing.My main doc, Dr. John Makuc, is simply incredible. I've had dogs since 1972, and no one else compares to him for concern, knowledge, and compassion. There will be no one else for me and my dogs--ever!!! Read Less

I have been to Berkshire Veterinary Hospital since 2002 and they have always provided our pets with the best of care. This year they have stood by ourside through our pet Puddims surgery and diagnosis of cancer, available 24/7 when we needed to order her pain medication and when we called for her to be seen whenever there was a change. October 1 God decided she needed to go to kitty heaven and we received the support to make that final decision. Little did we know within less than a month we would again need to make the same decision for our cat Big Eyes when he needed to be seen on a emergency basis late at night and needed to join Puddim in kitty heaven. There was no doubt in our mind that the stray we took in our home yesterday would go to Berkshire Veterinary Hospital for her check up and shots. Their office was accomodating to our schedule even though today is Sunday. I highly recommend them to anyone that has pets because they not only treat our pets who are our children, but also are there to provide the education and support to us when we need it the most. I have been bringing my pets to Berkshire Veterinary Hospital for many years. One in particular had a very rare condition that would have ended her life early and might have escaped detection had it not been for the vigilance of her doctor. From those working in the reception area to each and every vet there I have nothing but the highest regard. Each and every visit, for whatever reason, with whichever animal was managed thoroughly, caringly & professionally. Through the care provided to keep my pets well, to the care they needed when they were not,we received received focused and clear information about their condition and what all our options were in their treatment. Sometimes I pushed the envelope, wanting & needing to do everything possible. But when it was time to let go, we were given every consideration when bringing in a dear one for the last time. As a nurse I have often reflected upon the need for similar caring and concern from physicians caring for us humans. And sure the cost of veterinary care is not cheap. However, consider this. All of the training, time, technology & much of the medicine involved in veterinary care is identical to that used in our care. Yet it is a fraction of the cost of human medical care which sadly is often delivered with far less of the compassion I have come to expect at Berkshire Veterinary Hospital. Read Less
