I have been using Pittsfield Veterinary Hospital for my two cats and been very impressed and pleased. I have seen several different vets and been happy with all of them. They are gentle, sympathetic and knowledgeable. I recently had to put down my 15 year old cat and Dr. Reynolds was everything I could hope for during that traumatic experience. I have been bringing my animals here for years and the staff here are always friendly and knowledgeable, the place clean and organized. Besides general care over the years for cats, rats, and hamsters , I've had two rats and one dwarf hamster that had neuter surgery or tumor removals done here with no complications during or after, and I've had to have three animals put to sleep. One of whom was my 20 year old cat. You couldn't ask for more caring, respectful people in this situation. They took care of everything for us, and even when we had animals pass and just wanted to get them cremated they took care of that, too. My dog, cat , and I recently switched to this vet. We are all very happy we did! The desk staff is helpful , friendly, and knowledgeable. The building is clean and spacious, and , because coming to the vet is stressful for ME, the view of the mountains from the window is peaceful and calming. Which can only be a good thing for my animal friends! Our vet, Dr. Barclay, has been wonderful. She clearly has a real connection with animals and has been very accessible for me and patient with my countless questions. I initially went to other local vets because of reviews I read that said Pittsfield Vet was "expensive". Not necessarily. I will not bring my cat here again. The doctor gave her the wrong rabies vaccine. I am cautious about vaccines. They aren't necessary for an indoor cat (the chances of her biting a rabid bat or mouse in our dwelling are extremely low), but the management of an apartment I will be moving into requires the vaccine. Erring on the side of caution, I had asked for the one-year "Purevax" vaccine that was developed in response to a high proportion of cats getting cancerous tumors from the regular 3-year vaccine (the tumor grows in the spot where the injection was administered on the pet's body). I had asked for this newer vaccine TWICE: when I made the appointment on the phone and again when I spoke to the assistant when I arrived. The assistant "misunderstood" me, and they are "sorry" and the doctor kept repeating that I can get her the Purevax one in three years when she is due again. What? Is this supposed to distract me from the fact that you just injected my cat with the wrong one?I am irate.I asked for a hard copy statement from the doctor recording that they made this "mistake" and she acted like I was putting her out: "Well, I don't do my write-ups until later. I don't do them right away." "Okay, I'll wait," I said. The woman at the desk then asked her if she should not charge me for the vaccine and the doctor walked away in a huff and said "I don't know. I don't care." Ah, the same approach you and your staff had when you carelessly gave my cat the toxic vaccine that I did not ask for. Now you are not only sloppy, but rude as well.I think a written admission was not much to ask, as the cursory apologies from her and the staff weren't sufficient. I'm not able to express how happy I've been with the service my critters and I have received at Pittsfield Vet. Dogs, Cats, Guinea Pigs, Rabbits and several birds.Most of the staff is exceptional. Nola (5yo Golden Retriever) enjoyed this resort for the second time in less than 2 years.   We travel to Western MA about once a year and found this gem when we decided to bring Nola with us.When we arrived, instead of going to relieve herself which you would expect aftr a 6 hour drive from DE, she dragged my wife and myself to the front door of the resort.  This scene was repeated each day.  We checked Nola out each day if just for a local walk or just to include here in a litle shopping tour in a nearby town.  Staff goes way beyond the pleasant demeanor one would expect.  Always greeted promptly with a smile which endures throughtout the visit. All of the staff with which I interacted seemed very knowledgeable and eager to provide you with a welcoming experience.This visit included the administration of medicine, a task easily handled by the staffRates are reasonable, environment is clean and atmosphere inviting.  I would highly recommend this kennel resort to anyone who loves their dog as much as I. I've been in the area for a year and have been very happy with Pittsfield Vet. Tonight they went above and beyond. My pup was stung by a bee and my anxiety was pretty high. His face was swollen and he was pretty agitated. I called the vet hoping to get an emergency number to call. Instead, I got a live person who asked me a few questions and then connected me with a vet. The vet asked some questions and suggested Benadryl. I asked a bunch of questions and was kind of panicky but she calmed me down and offered to meet me at the office if it would make me feel better. It was great to have someone I trusted not pressure me to come in (or try to dissuade me from coming in)     He's now resting and the swelling is way down. I'm super grateful for the advice but more importantly, I felt listened to and she didn't make me feel crazy. Read Less

I am so happy with our vet. Pittsfield Vet on West Housatonic street are wonderful! They were great to us when diagnosing JoJo and they were great when his time came. They stayed open to help him during the end. They did not rush us in any way and they treated us all with such respect. Explaining everything step by step and taking such care of him. I don't give 5 stars easily but this is very deserved.  Dr Reynolds at the PVH was outstanding with our cat, who developed a large abscess on his throat over the weekend when most vets are closed.  We showed up without reservation.  He quickly and calmly, administered antibiotics, drained the abscess, cleaned up our baby and gave great follow up directions.  Smokey is doing wonderfully and Dr. Reynolds followed up with a phone call to make sure all was well.  Doesn't get better.  Thank you! My two cats and dog are patients here, and I currently use the practice for emergency service.  Overall I've been reasonably satisfied.  Dr. Reynolds is fantastic, and the two other vets we've seen are also great.  Their prices are reasonable, in my opinion.  My one major issue with them is that one of my cats is difficult in the office, and they are very hesitant to deal with him.  One of the vet techs, especially, seemed rather inexperienced, and was afraid to try to handle him, even with the cat gloves on.  They have sometimes not been able to carry out procedures, and push for sedation without first attempting a procedure without it.  For this reason I switched to a different primary vet, who is skilled and confident enough to give him shots and such without sedating. Great place to take your pet! I have taken all 5 of my pets here. They are very knowledgeable and work with owners to get the best care for their furry friends. They are also introducing laser treatments for arthritis and my Cracker had his first visit Wednesday and has already seen results. He was running on his walk yesterday. I love how all these "reviews" are so positive. I have read some REAL reviews elsewhere online and they are not positive at all. I am doing research for someone I know who recently had a VERY BAD experience with RUDE technician there. The technician was uncaring and unprofessional. A very sick dog was brought into them, and was clearly in physical pain. The technician was ruff and uncaring when handling this dog and was about to do a procedure (which under the conditions would have been very painful for the dog and the tech should have known not do to this) When the owner gasped and ask that she not do this the technician was VERY RUDE to the owners. Those people love that dog very much, that YOU did not seem to care about. BAN MANNERS, BAD FOR BUSINESS. Simple concept.Read Less

I love this place! It's very clean, the front desk staff is friendly and fun, and the doctors are great! I've had many pets through there. My first lab as he was getting older had worn away most of his ligaments in his back legs. He was 11, pretty old for a lab. Dr. Reynolds gave me 3 choices- 2 types of surgery (different prices and solutions) or an ibuprofen regimen. As old as my boy was, I didn't want to put him through a long recovery in the last part of his life. Dr. Reynolds assured me I wasn't a bad pet owner for not doing surgery. It wasn't pushed on me, and I am forever impressed. My dog had to be put down a few months later from other old age complications, and again, everyone was wonderful, staying after hours and even crying with us. I run a dog business and in the course of seven years have had dog emergencies, and anytime we have brought a dog to them they have handled every situation, even saving a dog's life who may have been poisoned in the woods. As a pet owner, and a pet business owner, I trust these people with my and my customers furry family members. Thank you so much to their whole staff, I can't say enough about how you are appreciated! Dropped the dog off here for a weekend stay.The resort is also a vet clinic/hospital, and was fully staffed with attentive, caring people. There's also a fun gift shop where you can peruse with your dog while you wait to be called.Dropping our guy off was no problem at all. Once checked into the system, a handler from the back was paged and came out to greet us. We went over the instructions we had printed out and we were comfortable with the amount of interaction. We were even allowed to escort our guy into his 'run' which was a treat.Upon picking him up a couple of days later, we were given a high-level overview of the weekend. Personally, I'm spoiled with the amount of detail in the updates from our every day walker (see: Happy Pet Care), so I was a little disappointed that we weren't given more detail of the weekend's activities.All in all a great experience and we will for sure be going back. The price was extremely reasonable, the facilities were clean, and all of the animals were obviously cared for and taken care of in a way you would hope and expect. Read Less
