Dr. Joan Diebold is simply amazing. I called to make a new patient appointment when my 10 year old cat stopped eating. Dr. Diebold was able to examine my cat the same day. My cat, however, didn't want to be examined, and as a result Dr. Diebold and her nurse, Laurie, ended up with several scratches and bites. I felt awful! They assured me that this behavior was normal in some cats, and they took it in stride. Dr. Diebold gave me her cell phone number and permission to call her after hours if I had an emergency. After finding out that my cat's diagnosis might be cancer, 2 days later I decided to have her euthanized. This was the hardest decision I've ever had to make! Everyone there was so supportive of me during this hard time. Their hugs meant so much to me. Later that night, Dr. Diebold called me at home and confirmed that my cat did, in fact, have a bony tumor on her mandible. It made me feel so much better knowing that I had made the right decision in preventing her from suffering any longer. Joan, Laurie, Jacqui and Renee are some of the most compassionate people I have ever met. The business name is perfectly fitting! Read Less

I was really hoping the good reviews were true as it's hard to find a vet that knows rabbits but unfortunately my experience didn't match theirs. Instead it resembled the other negative review. Dr.D seemed scattered, said things that didn't make sense in diagnosing my pet, claimed that it took "8 hrs" to compound the medicine she prescribed (i.e. grind up pills which actually took ~5 min - i watched them do it). The vet also shakes quite significantly so I'm not sure how she could safely trim my bun's nails, as she offered, never mind do surgery safely. Nevertheless, the reason for this review is that she gave 3 wks worth of antibiotics with instructions to call for a refill which I did this Monday. She rambled on the phone about several issues then said that she'd see if her husband would get the refill for me. Didn't hear back from her. I called again Wednesday and she didn't remember our conversation. I summarized for her and again asked how I could get the refill. More rambling indistinct responses without an answer, so I repeated: could she please tell me how to get the antibiotic from her by the end of the day? Once again, no return call. On Thursday my calls went unanswered until finally I was able to leave a message to which she has yet to reply (it's Saturday).  Her behavior suggests incompetence and is very clearly unprofessional. I called the office manager, Jim, for a referral to a good place to foster a dog. I had to put my 12 y.o. dog down this past August at the Boston Angel Memorial Hospital. Unluckily, the day I needed the vet for emergency treatment, was the day of the week their office is closed. The Dr. had only met my dog for a physical once, about 6 months before I had to put him down. I was still not ready to adopt a new dog, that is why I thought fostering would be a good start at having a dog around the house and not have to get too attached. Jim, from Compassionate Care, suggested I call The Milton Animal League. He did not prepare for the fact that this facility is run by the Milton Animal Police. The situation I got involved with turned out to be a very nasty and negative one. The Dr. promised to intercede on my behalf, and backed down to the Milton Animal Police Officer. Jim outright lied and said that he NEVER referred me to this agency. When I tried to get in touch with the Dr., Jim informed me to never call their office again. I am sorely disappointed in Compassionate Carl's handling of a situation that they got me involved with. Read Less

1 STAR IS TOO MUCH. Do not bring your pet to this vet office. I'll be very straight forward - the doctor is old and does not have the best eyesight and the office does not have a light, only a window for natural light to come in, the nurse/front desk is not skilled with communicating effectively and they will double charge you to re-visit if they make an error during the first visit. Very poor customer service if anything goes wrong. I paid $80 to bring my parakeet in for an office visit and nail trimming which was fine but when I got home and realized the doctor had only trimmed one of my bird's feet I made an appointment to go back for the other foot .. once I was done with the second visit she charged me $35 for a service that I had already paid for and the error was clearly on her part! When I mentioned I spoke with the front desk and told her my concern so I don't agree with the price she literally told me " It is what is, pay for the visit and you better not come back here for anything else". JUST WOW. If you choose to bring your pet here just pray they do it right the first time because you WILL get the short end of the stick if the DR makes an mistakes on your pet. Read Less

This veterinary practice is amazing and I would never bring my beloved cat anywhere else. After dealing with multiple other vet offices when my cat became ill, I had given up all hope of my cat ever getting better...nobody could seem to give me any answers. Finally, when I felt all else was lost, my friend recommended Compassionate Care Veterinary Center in Randolph...I was hesitant to try another vet because of the experiences I had had to this point, but I am glad I did. Dr. Diebold is the best at what she does...she gets right to diagnosing the issue...no games. And pricing is very reasonable compared to other practices in the area...Dr. Diebold actually spent a good 10 to 15 minutes working out the pricing for the blood work so she was sure I was getting the best deal. My cat Skittles would have died if I hadn't brought her here. I will never bring my pets anywhere else, no matter if it is a serious medical issue, or just routine care. Read Less

First Yelp review, longtime reader. I recently moved to the area and wanted to find a small, local veterinary clinic for my indoor cat because I loved my last one in Madison WI. Unfortunately Compassionate Care was not a good fit for me.Pros: Easy to make an appointment, a pleasant receptionist and vet technician gathered my information. This person was very friendly.Cons: I was very uncomfortable in the exam room with Dr. Diebold (I believe the only vet at this business so you don't have any alternative). She seemed disoriented and her speech was rambling and unrelated to the reason I was there or even normal conversational topics (for my cat to get an annual exam and rabies vaccine). Three times I had to re-orient her to actually examining my cat or moving past a topic she had gotten stuck on. I was in the exam room with Dr. Diebold for over 60 minutes, and felt like I was running the exam myself rather than the other way around. I had to ask twice to get my cat weighed and never really got a clear answer about food recommendations following a urinary problem my cat had recently. At the end of the appointment when I was trying to pay and leave,  Dr. Diebold summoned  me on a tour of the practice (despite my having mentioned I was in a hurry - mainly to get out of this place) and I had to interrupt the tour to avoid going into a basement lab I had no interest in seeing in the first place. As I was physically walking out the door, Dr. Diebold continued to ramble incoherently about an amputation she was considering for one of her own cats. It was extremely strange. I did not feel threatened by this vet but I was definitely uncomfortable by something that was clearly beyond eccentric. NOT a comfortable, friendly, professional atmosphere. I will be trying out another vet next time. Read Less

Unfortunately, I trusted all of these great reviews and decided to see this vet. Dr. Diebold accused my past vet clinic of using an illegal rabies vaccination - that there is only one that IS legal in our country. (I still want to research whether or not this statement is complete bull or not...) My two ferrets are very different in their weight. I have a very small 11/2 lb girl ferret, Buttons, and a 3lb boy, Wiggles. I take care in monitoring their weight because it wouldn't hurt if she gained a little, and I always want to make sure his weight is down to healthy numbers. My ferrets were both weighed in grams and Dr. Diebold had no idea how to convert grams to pounds when I asked about any changes in their weights. She guess-timated and shrugged off my general questions like they didn't matter. After feeling my little girl's organs for any changes in her adrenal disease, we were thrilled to find out that she's doing great. Then, she felt my little boy's organs and decided that there was a small mass - but too low to be adrenal disease. She took him out of the room with her assistant, Eileen, and said they needed to check him out more. I shouldn't have trusted her to leave the room with him. As time went by...About 20 minutes...My mom and I are very worried. What the f*** are they doing to my animal?? When they finally came back, he was plopped into my arms with a shaved belly and little razor cuts all over his newly bald patch. I was horrified. What did they do without our consent?? She announced, so matter-of-fact that they had done an ultrasound on him, expecting my mom to pay. My mom said, ""excuse me, Doctor, but when you left the room with him, you said to us that you could 'check him out more.' Did I misunderstand you?"" Dr. Diebold's temperament then went completely to an ""how dare you question my knowledge"" kind of tone and mannerism. Caught in her mistake, instead of a simple apology, she openly rolled her eyes at my mom, & cried out, ""Fine! Then you won't have to pay for it! My God!"" My mom replied with a simple ""thank you."" It was very upsetting having my pets in an unfamiliar, and now suddenly, chaotic environment. She seems like a vet who does not think of what is best for animals, but how she can rip you off. Not to mention how rude and demanding she was of her assistant, Eileen. It was uncomfortable to witness. The poor girl acts like she gets beaten by her behind-the-scenes. As we left the exam room, we thanked the Doctor for her time and while there was no response from her, Eileen enthusiastically answered, ""you're welcome!"" I need a vet I can trust and the fact that this Doctor did whatever she felt like doing with my animal has made us very upset. Wiggles is fine but I think only because he's a very socially outgoing little guy, he's over the experience. But, the experience didn't end here....As we left to pay, she threw us a bright smile and said, ""would you like a tour of the building?"" It was the strangest thing! I figured it would only take a minute so we went along with her. She put my crated ferrets back in the exam room and showed us every single room and piece of equipment and how it works, as if we were there for an internship. Also, the receptionist, Jim, called the day before to confirm the appointment and scared me by claiming he never got my ferrets records from our past vet, while he confirmed they were received and in a new file back in Sept. I'm not going to hold this against him, though, because this was the least of our concerns during the uncomfortable visit. Read Less

I would like to take a few minutes and tell you about my vet, Dr Joan DIebold, located in Randolph MA and her place of business is Compassionate Care Veterinary Center. The year she opened her doors to all the dog, cats, birds and the finest VMD for treating bunnies and many more of our little friends or in some cases our big friend, this is the veterinary hospital you would want to take your beloved pet which is also a member of your family and get the care that they deserve, I did and I intend to have many and all of my pets be seen by Dr Diebold and her staff.Let me share a few things with you; I adopted a fairly clear older cat named Milo who became ill and was diagnosed with kidney disease and one of the worst cases of thyroid problems, but Milo got to stay with me for two years and I contribute his time spend with me was because of the excellent care from Dr Diebold and from the staff from compassionate care veterinary center. The care didn't stop when my Milo went over the rainbow bridge, because when it was my time for me to adopt another cat, Dr Diebold was there and offered to come with me to adopt a new cat and she did, and her name is Shadow. Shadow got too meet her Dr Diebold before she even came home with me. Then Dr gave her a mini physical just so I could have a health cat this time. Now this was her day off, now how's that for a house call which she does house calls and you'll find that her fees are reasonable and consistent with other animal hospitals. I'm not great with words, but when someone is looking out for a family member and caring for them with love and passion one has to say, Thank you Dr Diebold and your staff. Read Less

Read Less
