I just moved to the area and had scheduled my dog's first vet visit to this hospital. The first appointment was 2 days away when my dog suddenly had an allergic reaction and needed immediate medical attention. This vet is the closest one to my home and I knew we were scheduled to start coming as a regular patient. We arrived at this vet with my dog (currently covered in hives and having difficulty breathing) during our emergency. The woman at the front desk was blunt that "sorry we won't see her because you're not a patient here." I tried to explain that our first appointment was 2 days away, and this was an emergency. Her response? "Well you can wait but I doubt anyone has time to see you."I couldn't believe the callousness, my dog was struggling to breathe and needed anyone to administer some sort of help. I would have happily waited if they could have stabilized her, if they were truly that busy. It seemed like they turned my dog away because I hadn't officially seen them yet as a patient (even though, like I said, we had tried to make that happen and were scheduled for a check up 2 days later). We ended up needing to drive 45 minutes away to the Woburn emergency vet. At this point, the wasted time at the Saugus hospital and needing to drive extra caused my dog considerable stress and unnecessary pain.I cancelled the appointment we originally made because if animal welfare is not the top concern of my vet, why the hell would I trust their services?

This animal hospital is the best I've found. Unfortunately, my dog needed to be put down in August. The staff could not have been more helpful in such a hard time. Even from just walking in, they were very sincere and considerate and brought us to a room so we could sit with him one last time. They wait for you to say goodbye and really gave us the space to love on our puppy one last time. They were comforting and did everything while explaining what they were doing so there were no surprises. After I got a beautiful card with my dogs paw print to remember him by. I couldn't have asked for a better way to say goodbye to my puppy. Thank you to all the staff there.

The reviews I've read here are years old. Check the dates when making your decision about coming here. I've been coming here for years and have always been met with 100% professionalism. The staff are always warm & friendly with me and my cats. They offer me options with their care, know that I am financially challenged and work with me around issues that come up in my cats life. You can always tell when people genuinely love animals and want to care for them. I wouldn't even THINK about going anywhere else. (My cats would disown me if I did!). Lol

Can't say enough about this place. Been bringing my dog Tori here for 7 years. Dr. Bender is so good with the pets that he treats . His exam is thorough and he explains each detail of what he doing. They give you an estimate of cost so there are no surprises.
And Ashley is an Angel. The compassion ,

Our first visit was on 9/25/2017, we called for a sick apt and they got us in right away even though we were not patients. the front office staff was very helpful and friendly. We did not have a long wait before we were called in for our appointment. We explained our concerns to the Vet, our dog had a strange spot on her skin. She listened to our concerns and explained things to us thoroughly and printed off quite a bit of literature regarding skin cancer, not once did we feel rushed. All of our options were explained and we were given the cost. The Vet opinion was it was a age spot, shh do not tell my dog, and nothing to worry about. She would do a biopsy if that would make us more comfortable. All of the time she spent explaining things to us, we were comfortable doing nothing. I felt that she truly cared about my dog and was not just thinking $$. Everything about our visit from the time we walk in until the time we walked out was a positive. They are now my go to Vet for anything and everything.

I cannot say enough good things about Dr. Andersen. Our cat George had a lot of health issues. Dr. Andersen provided excellent diagnostic and ongoing care. In the end his health issues got to be too much and we made the difficult decision to put him to sleep. Dr. Andersen provided excellent support and condolences to our family. She made a terrible situation tolerable.

The doctors here have never been anything but kind, knowledgeable, and supportive. I've been bringing my cat and dog here for a few years now. They work with my budget to help me with what's absolutely necessary vs. what can wait. I've been to other places where the doctors talk down or guilt you for this and that...I've never had that issue here. Dr. McGinley has been especially wonderful recently working with my dog who just had surgery.

The staff is really friendly and every time I've visited with Dr McGinley - she's been great. She always takes her time with my dog and explains everything. During emergency visits she has explained all options and made herself available when necessary. She has also checked in when she said she would to ensure everything was fine with Enzo. I highly recommend her as a vet and the the staff at Saugus Animal.

Although I have not used any other facility, Saugus Animal Hospital has been nothing short of spectacular during the four years we have been going here. My little Punkin was seriously injured when an irresponsible person was "caring" for her, and the staff here was wonderful to us through the whole process. Everyone is extremely professional and incredibly nice. It's so evident everyone working here loves animals. The receptionists are so kind, friendly, and organized. I had a cat that was sick for a few months and I was lost with all of the information I was receiving, but the doctors, technicians and receptionists helped me through those terrible few months. They called often to check in on how my cat was doing with all of the medication and even after he passed :( I received calls and cards from the wonderful SAH family. Amanda, at the reception desk, walked me through all of the insurance paperwork for all of my bills and helped me set up new insurance for my new kitten. Even when I took my kitty to a different hospital for specialized care, the doctors checked in to see how everything was going. I know my cat is in the best hands when I take him to SAH. Between both of my cats, I've seen a few different doctors here, they are all the same... Absolutely thoughtful and thorough. But, because she was the first doctor who helped me here, I do usually request to see Dr. Andersen, she is an incredible doctor. I feel lucky to have found her. She's always in a great mood and always makes my kitty comfortable before examining him. This team is truly amazing. The place is always very clean and I've never waited more than 5 minutes to see someone. Saugus Animal Hospital, thank you for taking care of our babies, and doing it with such class :)

I brought my sick leopard gecko to Dr.Binder after he stopped eating. Dr.Binder was kind and gave excellent care. One of the vet tech's taught me how to spoon feed my little guy with a syringe, the vet tech was so sweet and reassuring.
unfortunately, my little guy didn't pull through. Dr.Binder personally called me to ask how he was doing and I told him that he had passed. Dr.Binder had expressed his condolences and said some very kind words and a few days later he had sent me a card as well. I am really thankful for this establishment, I bring my dog elsewhere because I was referred there by the shelter but I am seriously considering switching over to Dr.Binder and his associates! highly recommend!!

The best animal hospital ever! Very clean and friendly. The exam price is not expensive for the service you receive. The receptionists are very helpful and friendly. I took my dog for an ear infection and had Dr. Bellemare. Dr. Bellemare was a complete joy to have as a vet. She was so friendly, knowledgable, and caring. After coming here for my first time, I will definitely be coming back! Thank you Dr. Bellemare and Saugus Animal Hospital!!!!

I've been bringing my pets here for a few years and never really warmed up to them. The assistants are nice, but the doctors have an attitude. Not particularly compassionate. the facility is not the cleanest either. I've had wonderful vets who give great common sense advice - these doctors tend to run up the bill as much as possible. I know tests are expensive, but they don't seem to have the diagnostic abilities that other veterinarians have so it's easier to order a test. There are many better places to go to. Not the worst place but I love my pets and will find a better place. Don't go here. Not recommended.

I trusted this hospital and because of that my dog is dead. When I got home (was on a vacation with family) I didnt even stop at the house first, (went to my vet and had a autopsy performed to find out why and how my dog died) it turns out that due to saugus hospital not performing a simple procedure to drain the bladder before releasing (he could not pee "blocked urethra") him for travel and was also found to have massive bruises on his bladder from this quack of a vet trying to squeeze the bkockage out. Suing wasnt worth it. He was pure bread worth $200.00 in courts eyes but was our family and this hispital killed him.

On Wednesday, July 8, 2015 we had to put our beloved dog Brady to sleep as he was suffering from a bronchial infection that he just could not beat. His coughing and gagging was to the point that he just could not be a normal happy dog anymore. He was also diagnosed with a mass in his right lung. We have brought our beloved dog to Saugus Animal Hospital for all of his needs. The staff was always caring and courteous and really loving to Brady. We have always felt most comfortable with the staff from the girls at the front desk to the Vet Techs to the Doctors. We will miss and always have a connection with the staff at Saugus Animal Hospital and their most caring manner. We received a beautiful card and a personal phone call from Dr. Mcguinly as she was genuinely concerned about our feelings and it was most touching during this heartaching time of loss. I would recommend this hospital to any loving pet owner.

I've actually switched to them from another local vet and I couldn't be happier! I think its important to remember that yelp also "Filters" review. Be sure to read the filtered ones as well. They have lots of positive reviews not being displayed.

My dog was not herself, not sleeping and acting strange. So I brought her to the Saugus animal hospital. They ran several tests, charging me hundreds of dollars. With no results. I called back the next day because my dog was getting worse. They said yes we should have run another test instead. So I bring back my dog and have more tests run. They want to charge me more $ for their mistakes? I wish that's how my job worked. To say the least this place is very unprofessional and my dog will no longer be put through random tests. Do not put your pet through the same stress I did. They care about billing you not fixing the problem at hand.

I have been bringing my cats and dogs to Saugus for over 7 years now, and the staff couldn't be friendlier. For the people who are disappointed with how they are treated - Saugus tries to educate pet owners on what is best for their pets. They expect you to be responsible enough to take good care of them, and that requires getting the proper treatment. If you aren't happy with their opinions, and can't afford to provide for your pets, perhaps don't have them. I have never had an issue with compassion, especially when I had to put my cat to sleep in February - they couldn't have been more supportive. Dr. Binder and Dr. Andersen are amazing.

I have 30 years of experience raising healthy cats and dogs, and after my vet retired I went to the Saugus Animal Hospital. I wish I never walked in their doors. The first red flag was that they don't allow you to be present while your pet is getting weighed, receiving inoculations, having simple tests, or really anything!. They failed to diagnose a serious, but prevalent disease in one of my pets and if you dare question anything they recommend they will and DO retaliate, Also, despite the reason for your visit , i.e., illness, accident, etc., they will push and ""sell"" you a bunch of products you DO NOT need! I cannot give details, because I wish to remain anonymous, but save yourself future heartache and look elsewhere! I wish I could give them 0 stars.

The Hospital was so clean. Did not have the familiar Animal Hospital odor. The Staff at the front desk was attentive, caring and sincere. The Doctors were professional and also very helpful. Satisfaction guaranteed. They even sent my kitty home w/a carrier and a towel. I will continue to take my kitty and animals I may have / find to this Hospital. Great convenient hours for a working person and they refer clients to other emergency tely #'s if they are not open at odd hours.Liz / Saugus

Our first visit was on 9/25/2017, we called for a sick apt and they got us in right away even though we were not patients. the front office staff was very helpful and friendly. We did not have a long wait before we were called in for our appointment. We explained our concerns to the Vet, our dog had a strange spot on her skin. She listened to our concerns and explained things to us thoroughly and printed off quite a bit of literature regarding skin cancer, not once did we feel rushed. All of our options were explained and we were given the cost. The Vet opinion was it was a age spot, shh do not tell my dog, and nothing to worry about. She would do a biopsy if that would make us more comfortable. All of the time she spent explaining things to us, we were comfortable doing nothing. I felt that she truly cared about my dog and was not just thinking $$. Everything about our visit from the time we walk in until the time we walked out was a positive. They are now my go to Vet for anything and everything.

I cannot say enough good things about Dr. Andersen. Our cat George had a lot of health issues. Dr. Andersen provided excellent diagnostic and ongoing care. In the end his health issues got to be too much and we made the difficult decision to put him to sleep. Dr. Andersen provided excellent support and condolences to our family. She made a terrible situation tolerable.

The doctors here have never been anything but kind, knowledgeable, and supportive. I've been bringing my cat and dog here for a few years now. They work with my budget to help me with what's absolutely necessary vs. what can wait. I've been to other places where the doctors talk down or guilt you for this and that...I've never had that issue here. Dr. McGinley has been especially wonderful recently working with my dog who just had surgery.

The staff is really friendly and every time I've visited with Dr McGinley - she's been great. She always takes her time with my dog and explains everything. During emergency visits she has explained all options and made herself available when necessary. She has also checked in when she said she would to ensure everything was fine with Enzo. I highly recommend her as a vet and the the staff at Saugus Animal.

Came the better part of 17 years ago and they wanted to pull every tooth out of my 3yo kittens mouth.. I was like WTF??? Took her for a. Second and third opinion elsewhere and those vets shook their head.. She lead a long life until almost 20, and yes with all of her teeth.. I never went back to these quacks again

My little Punkin was seriously injured when an irresponsible person was "caring" for her, and the staff here was wonderful to us through the whole process. I truly feel like they love my dog like I do.

Everyone is extremely professional and incredibly nice. It's so evident everyone working here loves animals. The receptionists are so kind, friendly, and organized. I had a cat that was sick for a few months and I was lost with all of the information I was receiving, but the doctors, technicians and receptionists helped me through those terrible few months. They called often to check in on how my cat was doing with all of the medication and even after he passed :( I received calls and cards from the wonderful SAH family. Amanda, at the reception desk, walked me through all of the insurance paperwork for all of my bills and helped me set up new insurance for my new kitten. Even when I took my kitty to a different hospital for specialized care, the doctors checked in to see how everything was going. I know my cat is in the best hands when I take him to SAH. Between both of my cats, I've seen a few different doctors here, they are all the same... Absolutely thoughtful and thorough. But, because she was the first doctor who helped me here, I do usually request to see Dr. Andersen, she is an incredible doctor. I feel lucky to have found her. She's always in a great mood and always makes my kitty comfortable before examining him. This team is truly amazing. The place is always very clean and I've never waited more than 5 minutes to see someone. Saugus Animal Hospital, thank you for taking care of our babies, and doing it with such class :)

I brought my sick leopard gecko to Dr.Binder after he stopped eating. Dr.Binder was kind and gave excellent care. One of the vet tech's taught me how to spoon feed my little guy with a syringe, the vet tech was so sweet and reassuring.
unfortunately, my little guy didn't pull through. Dr.Binder personally called me to ask how he was doing and I told him that he had passed. Dr.Binder had expressed his condolences and said some very kind words and a few days later he had sent me a card as well. I am really thankful for this establishment, I bring my dog elsewhere because I was referred there by the shelter but I am seriously considering switching over to Dr.Binder and his associates! highly recommend!!

The best animal hospital ever! Very clean and friendly. The exam price is not expensive for the service you receive. The receptionists are very helpful and friendly. I took my dog for an ear infection and had Dr. Bellemare. Dr. Bellemare was a complete joy to have as a vet. She was so friendly, knowledgable, and caring. After coming here for my first time, I will definitely be coming back! Thank you Dr. Bellemare and Saugus Animal Hospital!!!!

I've been bringing my pets here for a few years and never really warmed up to them. The assistants are nice, but the doctors have an attitude. Not particularly compassionate. the facility is not the cleanest either. I've had wonderful vets who give great common sense advice - these doctors tend to run up the bill as much as possible. I know tests are expensive, but they don't seem to have the diagnostic abilities that other veterinarians have so it's easier to order a test. There are many better places to go to. Not the worst place but I love my pets and will find a better place. Don't go here. Not recommended.

I trusted this hospital and because of that my dog is dead. When I got home (was on a vacation with family) I didnt even stop at the house first, (went to my vet and had a autopsy performed to find out why and how my dog died) it turns out that due to saugus hospital not performing a simple procedure to drain the bladder before releasing (he could not pee "blocked urethra") him for travel and was also found to have massive bruises on his bladder from this quack of a vet trying to squeeze the bkockage out. Suing wasnt worth it. He was pure bread worth $200.00 in courts eyes but was our family and this hispital killed him.

On Wednesday, July 8, 2015 we had to put our beloved dog Brady to sleep as he was suffering from a bronchial infection that he just could not beat. His coughing and gagging was to the point that he just could not be a normal happy dog anymore. He was also diagnosed with a mass in his right lung. We have brought our beloved dog to Saugus Animal Hospital for all of his needs. The staff was always caring and courteous and really loving to Brady. We have always felt most comfortable with the staff from the girls at the front desk to the Vet Techs to the Doctors. We will miss and always have a connection with the staff at Saugus Animal Hospital and their most caring manner. We received a beautiful card and a personal phone call from Dr. Mcguinly as she was genuinely concerned about our feelings and it was most touching during this heartaching time of loss. I would recommend this hospital to any loving pet owner.

I see other people commenting on pricing being to high?!To be honest I'm completely shocked. I think they are very reasonably priced within the area. I've actually switched to them from another local vet and I couldn't be happier! I think its important to remember that yelp also "Filters" review. Be sure to read the filtered ones as well. They have lots of positive reviews not being displayed.

My dog was not herself, not sleeping and acting strange. So I brought her to the Saugus animal hospital. They ran several tests, charging me hundreds of dollars. With no results. I called back the next day because my dog was getting worse. They said yes we should have run another test instead. So I bring back my dog and have more tests run. They want to charge me more $ for their mistakes? I wish that's how my job worked. To say the least this place is very unprofessional and my dog will no longer be put through random tests. Do not put your pet through the same stress I did. They care about billing you not fixing the problem at hand.

I have been bringing my cats and dogs to Saugus for over 7 years now, and the staff couldn't be friendlier. For the people who are disappointed with how they are treated - Saugus tries to educate pet owners on what is best for their pets. They expect you to be responsible enough to take good care of them, and that requires getting the proper treatment. If you aren't happy with their opinions, and can't afford to provide for your pets, perhaps don't have them. I have never had an issue with compassion, especially when I had to put my cat to sleep in February - they couldn't have been more supportive. Dr. Binder and Dr. Andersen are amazing.

I have 30 years of experience raising healthy cats and dogs, and after my vet retired I went to the Saugus Animal Hospital. I wish I never walked in their doors. The first red flag was that they don't allow you to be present while your pet is getting weighed, receiving inoculations, having simple tests, or really anything!. They failed to diagnose a serious, but prevalent disease in one of my pets and if you dare question anything they recommend they will and DO retaliate, Also, despite the reason for your visit , i.e., illness, accident, etc., they will push and ""sell"" you a bunch of products you DO NOT need! I cannot give details, because I wish to remain anonymous, but save yourself future heartache and look elsewhere! I wish I could give them 0 stars.

The Hospital was so clean. Did not have the familiar Animal Hospital odor. The Staff at the front desk was attentive, caring and sincere. The Doctors were professional and also very helpful. Satisfaction guaranteed. They even sent my kitty home w/a carrier and a towel. I will continue to take my kitty and animals I may have / find to this Hospital. Great convenient hours for a working person and they refer clients to other emergency tely #'s if they are not open at odd hours.Liz / Saugus
