My family has been taking our animals to Dr. Truesdale for over 12 years. He and the assistants are wonderful, caring, professional, and extremely knowledgeable. 7 years ago our dog had gone into cardiac arrest. Karen and Dr. Truesdale consoled us as we made the decision to end our poor guys suffering. They were both so reassuring and caring. When we got a new puppy we knew Dr. Truesdale was going to continue to be our vet. However, the last few months we had a turning point. All due to the front desk staff. The front desk staff has progressively gotten worse. They show no caring, no urgency, and no professionalism. A little over a month ago We called in a prescription refill and were told we had to wait 24 hours. After 72 hours, numerous phone calls, lunch breaks spent on hold the refill was never completed. We eventually scheduled a yearly exam. We were told it was necessary for our dog to continue to receive his medication. Understanding that the stress of the office vets has horrible effects on our dogs illness we kept our appointment. We get brought to a room by Karen who is great as usual. However, to our surprise Dr. Truesdale isn't the vet we are seeing. We are meeting with Dr. O'Neil. She is immediately defensive, argumentative , and unprofessional. She had no knowledge of my dogs severe disorder. Apparently, no one could find our file so she never even became familiar with our pet. All of our questions/concerns were met with deeming responses. Our file was found as we paid at check out. As the "delightful" receptionist schedule four follow up I requested we be seen by Dr. Truesdale. That request was met with an attitude. I will be cancelling that appointment and After all these years of wonderful care by Dr. Truesdale and his assistants we will sadly be looking for another vet. Read Less

Dr. Truesdale is fantastic. I've read many of the other reviews, and they did cause me to be a bit trepidatious about bringing my dog in, but I could NOT have been more impressed. The staff is incredibly friendly, especially Alicia (receptionist) and Crystal (vet tech). And Dr. Truesdale himself...he's a GEM. He put my mind entirely at ease, considering I have a very difficult dog. As soon as Dr. Truesdale entered the exam room, my dog approached him on his own to sniff...very uncharacteristic of my dog who is generally very shy and timid...especially of men. Dr. Truesdale then calmly discussed all of the things they were going to do (he was in for the whole gamete...neuter, exam, shots, grooming, etc.), and finished by describing some drugs/behavior tactics to calm my high strung boy. The whole time, my dog was calm as could be. That told me all I needed to know. He does have a very busy practice, so face-to-face time is limited. I do wish I had been able to speak to him directly following the procedures, but Alicia and Crystal told me everything I needed to know. I am so impressed with the quality of care and the quality of knowledge in this practice. I would recommend them to ANYONE. Read Less

Despite the reviews I took my two Frenchies here for their allergies. The front desk staff were super friendly and the Dr was knowledgeable and clearly an animal lover. They suggested apoquil which although expensive has been the only thing that has worked for my boys. I priced checked and found the cost to be inline with all the online websites. Unfortunately pet ownership can be expensive and owners should be educated as to what costs may arise to properly care for their fur babies!! My new vet Vinny said this could have been fixed a year ago so much easier if they had known what they’re talking about, he said anyone fresh out of vet school should know what she has. it pains me to write this review having known dr. Truesdale as our vet.most of my life but I feel I need to. Its not so much the lack of respect of your time and money as its the lack of passion and compassion toward you and your pet. I wasted my time dragging my poor sick underweight cat for a follow up appointment to find out if her new meds were doing the job. Having did my part pilling my cat everyday for two weeks sliced and diced every time only to show up at her followup with no one there having a clue as to why we were there. Okay they were extremely busy having waited in a zoo of unhappy dogs for half an hour later than the appointment dogs wetting themselves and barking my poor cat was a mess. The veterinarian I had never seen before had no clue why we were there does anybody there know how to read! Could you not overbook yourselves into a circus. Could ya maybe call if your running late. Before entering the room to see your nervous patient read their chart call them by name. From the looks of the poor animals and my cat they sensed the hostility as I did. Read Less

Katie N. is right. Dr. Truesdale himself and the assistants are very caring and generous and wonderful to the customers. The front desk staff is not considerate at all. I had asked if I could use the Friends of Animals discount for my two kittens and was told no by the front desk. Dr. Truesdale overrode them and said yes because I had been bringing the kittens for their initial shots for weeks and had spent about $700 already. When I brought the kittens to be neutered that day, I was told I could not use the discount because I didn't have the coupon in hand and they couldn't trust me to actually buy it and provide it so the clinic would get reimbursed. When I arrived that night to retrieve the neutered kittens, I showed the receipt that I had bought the coupons that day and was told again that no, since it wasn't the physical document in hand I couldn't receive the discount. This was a $400 up-charge that they could've accepted. I subsequently donated the coupons to the Central Ave Veterinary Hospital so someone else could use them, but don't necessarily think the front desk staff will be generous enough to give them to anyone. Thank you Dr. Truesdale for being a good soul. Maybe you could encourage your staff to try acting the same way. Read Less

I had an appt today for the neutering and when I took the day off work and brought my pet in they said 'oh, we forgot to give her the rabies shot at the last visit so let's do it today and reschedule the neutering for 2 weeks out ' (and take another day out of work). I will never go back to this clinic to service my dog. It all started with needing to get my dog neutered. I called around to a few clinics to get his shots necessary to obtain getting him neutered. The receptionist, Kim was the (not so friendly) gave me the price of $200 dollars, TOTAL. I was happy to hear that price so I gladly accepted and repeatedly asked.. $200 for shots and neutering? She assured me "Yes, everything, altogether." So I set up my first appt. to get his shots. Came to over $100 -_- So checking out we had the conversation that... 'Okay so $100 next time right?" She couldn't give me an honest, 100% answer (this is again Kim.. No smile.. Not trying to help me.. Took a phone call for 5 mins during our conversation as I'm waiting there with my dog and 2 1/2 year old daughter digging around in a bucket of candy in the waiting room. ) She said roughly around $200.. Okay.. I was upset about it but his second set of shots he needed to get were included. So 3 weeks pass and it's time for the neutering. I go to pay and I'm holding a piece of paper in front of me that says $437... WHAT?! I was so upset.. She said oh and there's 15% off neutering! She's saying the $437 is an estimate.. Yet wants me to sign it.. Uhh no I will not sign an estimate. I watch way too much court TV to sign (agree) to a price that will change. Came to about $369.. I knew right then like.. This place is insane. Just be honest with the prices. Anyways.. Drop him off and the woman who came out to get him said they'd call me and let me know how his surgery went. They never called. I called them the next day and the girl who answered gave me attitude saying... "Well we usually have YOU call US.." Like, what?! How am I supposed to know when he's done? I'm not there? I don't know when his surgery was.. He was there for 27 hours..? Go to pick him up and offered me to rent his collar.. I never used it.. Got my money back for the cheap plastic that I feel like they should just give you? But oh well.. I took my dog home with fleas -_- he didn't have fleas before going there. I told someone I knew about my terrible experience and they friggin GUESSED it was this place telling me they are the most overpriced vet around. And not friendly at all. I was going there for convince and the price the vet had TOLD me.. But I should have asked around.. I'll never step foot in that place again. Read Less

I chose Dr. Trusdale to perform an ear crop on my 11 week old Cane Corso. Obviously, for this type of procedure, I wanted someone reputable and was referred here by a friend.I was on the fence about even considering the surgery but he was very straight forward, reassuring, and easy to work with. I was provided with a book of crops that he has performed and he's done fantastic work. I provided images of what I was considering and he recommended a slightly shorter crop to which I agreed. My dog's cup fell off today and I inspected the incision, length, and evenness of her ears. Needless to say, they're perfect and will probably only require one or two tapings when the sutures are removed in two days time. The best! Everyone I know sends their pets here - including both of our dogs' breeders. They were SO compassionate and helpful when our 10 yr old cat developed kidney failure - I was given all the options directly with no push to do a specific treatment, and no judging when we elected to euthanize her (she wouldn't have lived a year, we were told). When we were there for the procedure, I was given all the time I needed to say goodbye, and I was permitted to hold her the whole time. We have all of our animals cared for there, and have had nothing but good experiences. Yes, you have to wait, usually past the scheduled appointment time, as with most doctors. Emergencies happen, and they obviously take precedence over a routine appointment. If Dr. Truesdale spent the amount of time the disgruntled user thinks she is entitled to, he would get even more behind in his schedule, and people will have to wait even longer. You were there for a routine exam, for vaccinations, for crying out loud! You expect a full-on physical exam? Schedule one and you'll get that. Schedule an appointment for vaccinations, that's what you get. Bottom line: They're awesome!! Read Less

I went to Dr. Truesdale for the first time recently with our 11-year-old German Shepherd who had a urination problem. When I made the appointment, the person on the phone suggested UTI. When I brought her in, and that was the diagnosis. A round of antibiotics and she's doing fine.
There was no long wait and the staff was nice. Most importantly, Dr. Truesdale worked with me on the diagnosis. When I told him we don't vaccinate except for rabies, he didn't give me a lecture or look at me bug-eyed. No judgement.
When I mentioned that her teeth were bad but I didn't want to put her under to have them cleaned (she's 11), he suggested an alternate treatment that so far is working.
I found Dr. Truedale to be accommodating, he explained his opinions, and he provided good advice. I recommend him highly. Read Less

I have seen all 3 vets here and none of them know what they’re talking about. My dog needs a major jaw surgery now because when I first took her in to get checked they misdiagnosed her 3 times! This was over a year ago and now her condition is much much worse. My new vet Vinny said this could have been fixed a year ago so much easier if they had known what they’re talking about, he said anyone fresh out of vet school should know what she has. Now she has to go to Ocean State for her surgery. Also I had another dog who just passed and 2 weeks before she passed the vets said everything was good and healthy and she really had a ton of tumors and had to be put down!! Never going back!! it pains me to write this review having known dr. Read Less

This was hand down my worst vet experience ever and I’ve lived in multiple states and counties with animals. Not only did they cancel on me without 24 hours notice but during my new rescheduled time they took me an hour later than it was scheduled for. Doctor was competent, but the staff is unfriendly, uninformed, and rude. We were not the only ones with problems. There was an older lady that had been there waiting for three hours that day also, so it’s clearly something that happens a lot there. I would never recommend this vet. Read Less

Katie N. is right. Read Less

Dr Truesdale himself is great. He works great with both the dogs and their owners. The same goes for the veterinary assistants, they are consistently professional and friendly. Wonderful treatment by the nurses and doctor, I can't say enough good things about them. The problem arises with the front desk staff. They continue to be rude and blatantly ignore the presence of clients in the office. I was astounded by how they conducted themselves. This place wants to milk every dime out of you!! I pre-paid for immunizations and neutering when I got my pet and was told to come here to use it. I have had my pet for only 3 months and they have charged me $500 on top of what I pre-paid - and it hasn't even been neutered yet! I had an appt today for the neutering and when I took the day off work and brought my pet in they said 'oh, we forgot to give her the rabies shot at the last visit so let's do it today and reschedule the neutering for 2 weeks out ' (and take another day out of work). Of course they charged me another $91 for the shot today! It costs less to get immunizations for my children. Once I finish the 'pre-paid' neutering I will be done with this place. Read Less

Got here early for our appointment. Still waiting 40 minutes after appointment time. I just asked how much longer and was told still 3 people ahead of me, "because it's Monday and Mondays are always hectic." Then why even have appointments?? Plus the waiting room is a zoo, there are tons of people here and the dog owners totally ignore the "cat waiting room" sign.

I'm thoroughly impressed with the service received and am considering taking him on as my dog's regular veterinarian. Read Less

Read Less

Its an unpopular procedure these days, however his office does it frequently and does a great job. The immediate after care was not fun for us nor for our pup, but the front desk staff was helpful in fielding our frequent phone calls and concerns. We drove 1.5 hours each way every time we needed to have his ears taped or have the tape removed. This is the best Vet in all of New England. He has literally saved one of my cats from death after suffering serve trauma by quickly and accurately diagnosing the issues she had encountered. Once again, a quick and successful diagnosis followed up by timely and accurate treatment is saving my dying dog's life.....Did I mention that this crisis with the dog came to a head at 7:00am on a Sunday morning....The Dr. was in the office taking emergency calls....as they do every Sunday....from 8:00am - noon.
Read Less
