Although I adore Dr. Bujalski, I unfortunately had (another)very negative experience with the front desk millennial who was overly sensitive to my reaction when she told me "she couldn't guess" what prescription to renew for our dog who needs medicine to handle firework noises . I gave as much information as I could, explained I can't find the bottle, asked her to check with any veterinarian there to verify which of our dog's prescriptions (issued awhile back) would be the correct one to relax her during the upcoming 4th of July. This person was basically acting like "I can't help you". When I said that's ridiculous, please put me on hold and let me talk with someone else there, she starts with the "ma'am, please stop yelling at me". Please, just do your job and attempt to be helpful and solve a problem. It's not about YOU. She put me on hold and came back after checking with someone else with a flat toned response that they'll have it ready in 48 hours - maybe. Thanks - sorry it took so much for you to be client driven and give people what they're paying for. Should have been much easier than that. Next time have the right attitude. Read Less

Terrible! These people don't care about your pet. We have been going there off and on for convenience sake as they are down the street from us. However, they are always curt and sometimes sloppy. We feel that they never take us seriously. This week we had an emergency situation with our large breed dog. We called them about it and they couldn't fit us in and refused to see the dog. We ended up at Angel Memorial because they weren't accommodating. We called our vet about seven times and never got a response from the vet. Our dog had to stay overnight at the ER, racking up bills over $4k, and still no word back from Porter Square Vet even though the hospital sent them the records. It's super infuriating and I hope they close shop. They are the worst! We really recommend you avoid them at all costs. I really hope they are closed ASAP. Read Less

As new dog owners, we were very nervous with picking a vet. We had nothing but exceptional experience with Dr. Maxmen and the staff at Porter Square Vet. They do an excellent job of answering little questions we have and are very responsive. They do a great job of giving over the phone advice for some of the smaller questions we have (like digestion problems from switching over to a new dog food) and can differentiate when it's a bigger issue that we might need to take the dog in for. Highly recommend! Read Less

Would not recommend. Echoing other reviews, the problem here is the front desk and customer service. The front desk consistently will not answer the phone. The only time I have reached the office quickly was when I called the emergency line. I've also been ignored while waiting at the front desk, upon walking in and checking out. The front desk's demeanor is off-putting - apathetic at best, borderline hostile at worst. I don't know if they are overworked or just not trained to provide good customer service. The one time my pet had a potential emergency, I called Porter Square to assess whether it was an emergency. I was on hold for 30 minutes and then hung up on. I finally called the emergency line. They determined that it was an emergency, and that I should bring it in if I could make it before they closed. I asked if I should go to BluePearl, the 24-hour emergency hospital, instead, but they said I should come in. So my pet and I get to the vet by the time they asked us to. After we waited for a while, one of the vets sees us, offers a couple of options for treatment and gives her recommendation. I decide to go with the recommendation, and they then explain that they aren't equipped for it, and send us over to BluePearl anyways. This incident cost us over 2.5 hours in a time sensitive emergency situation, not to mention additional travel and vet costs. A shorter wait time on the phone and a more thoughtful interaction with the front desk or a quick conversation with a vet before coming in would have saved valuable time, energy, and money. To be fair, no other issues with the medical care received here or interactions with vets or techs (hence 2 stars instead of 1), but just transferred my pet over to another vet as it's really not worth dealing with the front desk. Management should address these issues, otherwise they will continue to lose customers. Read Less

Brought my cat who had several wounds from another cat. My cat was not recommended to be in a elizabeth collar during the visit and I later found out there was a clear need for one. Thankfully things eventually got better for my cat but it took a lot longer because my cats wounds were a lot larger than they would had he been put in a collar.I have to go back and thank a woman working at Petco that saw the photo history, photo of cat the day before he went to Porter Square Vet and a photo from same morning I went to Petco. Woman at Petco was shocked he wasn't in the collar after seeing the early timeline photo. Lack of proper vetrinary advice caused significant increase in wound size from licking and resulted in a much longer recovery time. I brought my pet to another vet and they did not want to speak badly of another vet but quietly noted it was fairly standard for a cat to have been put into a collar based on the wounds in early photos. My cat was in the collar for many weeks longer than necessary. I had to spend more money at another vet and spend more money on wound treatment since they grew much larger. Unacceptable.Observed that the front desk staff displayed poor phone manners on occasion.Front desk staff were also insulting when I began to ask questions related to the mistake. Read Less

I came here about a week ago for the first time with my 3 year old German Shepherd. Everyone here is amazing! It can be so hard to find a good vet, and these guys handled my (very excitable, and also very nervous) baby so well. When the vet came into the room, her presence immediately calmed him down, and he let her poke/prod/rub wherever she needed to. When they took him into the back to do shots, I could hear them talking to him/about him and they had nothing but sweet words to say! Price wise, they didn't charge as much as other vets in the area. There is also plenty of metered parking around the building, which makes commuting easier. My husband and I fully plan on making appointments for our cats here as well. Read Less

Needed a new vet since moving to Boston. I've only gotten standard vaccinations here. I attached my bill for my visit, I think the prices are standard though I feel like the cost of the exam is a bit high. I'm guessing it's standard in the area. The leptospirosis vaccine was recommended. I was told by the vet that my pet would have to return for a booster shot but that I wouldn't have to pay. Her words verbatim. When I came for the booster I ended up paying the cost of the booster (same as the initial shot) along with a $10 tech fee. I expressed my confusion and was told what I didn't have to pay was the vet fee... if I was told straight up the cost I would've still agreed to it, but I felt like the vet purposely misled me. I'm not a fan of unexpected charges. If I was told at the initial exam that I would pay for a tech fee along with the cost of a vaccine at the follow-up visit this wouldn't be an issue. I think in general people are more paranoid about being overcharged for anything medical, what helps if you're totally transparent about it. Have a list of standard vaccinations and procedures available online or something. During the exam/consultation tell us what might incur higher fees and what that might be. Be more transparent and your patients will trust you more. I also find it odd that they don't vaccinate your pets in front of you. I understand they might do so for safety reasons, but I've gone to numerous vets with different dogs (my parents') and I've never seen this practice. ‍Overall I have found the services to be pretty standard/average which would result in 3 stars, but I removed an additional star for the "surprise" charge.I'll update my review if my experience changes in the future. The vets are great and I loved working with them, especially Dr.Jones. He even called me a few weeks after my cat started a medication to check on how things were. However, I cannot ever seem to reach anyone on the phone. I've never been on hold for less than 10 minutes and I've had my call answered by a person once. After Dr Jones called I realized I had a question and immediately called back and no one answered. I've actually walked down to their office to ask a question after being unable to reach someone and not being called back.Imagine having to set aside 10-20+ minutes every time you need to make an appointment. Imagine it taking several days to get through to someone to schedule vaccinations. You can have them call you back but I can't always have my phone on me at work so I call when I am available to talk. I've tried morning, afternoon, an hour before closing... Maybe I have extremely bad luck. I want to continue seeing Dr Jones but I can't put up with the frustration every time I need to see him. Read Less

**You will regret making this your home vet. **1.Possibly the worst customer service I've seen in any organization. - Front desk is consistently rude and treats customer as if they are an inconvenience- both in person and on the phone. One of many examples, one girl made an appt for me and another called me back a few hrs later to yell at me because they didn't have the service scheduled-- which isn't the customers fault.... just cancel politely maybe? - Check your bill! Front desk has charged me for services I did not receive for pet- vets are expensive enough! - Every time you call you will be placed on hold and have to try multiple times to get through. Laughable when the automated machine says 0 callers ahead of you for over 30 minutes. 2. Pet is worse off after visits - My pet was injured and I mentioned specific things that made it worse- techs did it anyway.**actual Vets are OK but not outstanding enough to endure all the above stated issues with this place. Save yourself money and heartache- find another vet. Read Less

We recently had to make the decision to put our cat Jules to sleep, and Porter Square Vet was wonderful through the whole process.  Dr. Murphy was so kind and compassionate as she explained his health status, and she also respected that the decision to euthanize is a very personal one and didn't try to make it for us but rather gave us the information we needed to decide for ourselves.  She and the rest of the staff gave us all the time we needed at every step of the way and made the process as smooth as possible.  Dr. Murphy even sent us a sympathy card the following week.  It's always sad to say goodbye to a beloved pet and I truly appreciate the care shown to us. I've had 2 wonderful experiences here. The first was a visit I had scheduled after I found my cat, Harriet, after she had been missing for over 16 days. When I explained the situation in the phone, they moved around the schedule to take her in the very next day. The vet was professional, informed, and did the necessary blood work and shaved a small area of her fur where she had noticed an open wound that needed healing. The second time I went in was for a bump on her neck. The vet was able to quickly test it and let me know it was just a cyst. The cost of both visits was expensive, but it was what I expected for the care and treatment Harriet had received. Read Less

I've been going to PSV for about 4 or 5 years.  I didn't love them from the beginning, but they were fine, so I just stayed.  My first issue (which formed my opinion of not being thrilled by them) was they offered no alternatives to food for my dog with a urinary issue besides Science Diet.  I have heard some not great things about that food, so I wanted to see if there was something else and...guess what...the vet that likely gets a cut from Science Diet had nothing to offer. They have gotten food orders messed up on occasion, which again, not a huge deal. The last straw was recently when I got a report from my dog sitter than there was blood in my dog's urine.  Being away for the holiday, the soonest I could take him was a Monday.  I called to book an appointment and they said they couldn't get him in until Wednesday (the report from the sitter was sent to me on Friday evening).  I asked, "Isn't that not great to leave something like that so long?"  To which they responded, "Well, you can keep an eye on it and if it gets worse, you can take him to an emergency vet."  Not, "If it gets worse, we can squeeze him in."  I've been giving you my business for multiple years and you can't get an urgent appointment for me when there is a possibility of infection?  I called another vet in the area and for a brand new client, they could get me in Monday, no problem.I just found my new vet and you have now lost my business, Porter Square Vet. Did you know that guinea pigs and other small animals are considered "exotic pets"? It can be really challenging to find a vet who specializes in these small animals, and I was wary to take my guinea pigs to see a vet who wasn't familiar with their needs. After much searching in the Boston area, I decided to take my piggies to Porter Square Vet, and I can't recommend them enough.  Dr. Werlin has cared for my two pigs for about three years since I adopted them through various ailments, ranging from upper respiratory issues to a more serious surgery to remove a tumor. The surgery was incredibly stressful: I had received a diagnosis from an emergency vet when I noticed the lump, and the estimated cost for the surgery was out of my possibilities.  I took my pig to Porter Square Vet to follow up, and Dr. Werlin and Dr. Usiak were both realistic in the prognosis and were able to complete the surgery within my financial means.  The kind folks at the reception area are always friendly and helpful, and they usually smile when they see two chubby guinea pigs in a cat carrier come through the door. All in all, if you're looking for an exotic/small animal veterinarian, I'd definitely recommend Porter Square. Read Less

I couldn't be more thrilled and relieved about this place. My husband and I adopted a senior dog in April, and we searched high and low for a good vets in the area (which was difficult because we're also new to the area). Then one day we happened to start speaking to a dog owner at a local dog park, and she had nothing but good things to say about Porter Square Vets. After several months of further personal research (and a super stressful ER visit in between), we set up general appointment with Dr. Usiak. She is fantastic! She has such a calming demeanor about her that helped calm me down (I was super anxious), as well as my dog down (who was likely anxious because of me). I had a huge list of questions that I read off like a laundry list to her, and she answered every question in detail and great patience. She was also very gentle with my dog, which made his experience so much easier. With his (likely) difficult experience at the shelter coupled with his previous stressful experience at the ER, my dog was not happy to be at PS Vets, but by the end of the appointment, he was comfortably relaxing and lying down. That said, I'd like to make clear that I can't speak for the other vets. But my personal experience at PS Vets with Dr. Usiak in particular were fantastic. Read Less

I found this place after reading reviews on yelp. I want to say that overall the experience is good but it also varies depend on the vet. I agree with other reviewer that it would be nice if I can see the same vet all the time. Sorry I am good at names but I had dealt with 4 different vet. The best one is the most recent experience with Dr. Champaign. My dog was breathing heavily and after several tests it turned out he has enlarge heart. Dr. Champaign was very patient at showing me the x-ray and explain to me the problem and he doesn't like recommend unnecessary medication or test. I also encounter an Asian lady. I brought my dog in I think for teeth cleaning or something and she pointed out that my dog has allergy (in a way as I am not a good dog owner). I told her I know and we already did the allergy test and he is allergic to grass, nothing much we can do. And she said you can put him on steroid. My vet in California where I used to live told me that steroid should be the last resort if my dog is very uncomfortable because there are a lot side effects. It jus annoys me she suggested it the first thing without really asking how is my dog dealing with it or recommend other method. I also encounter other two blond lady who both seem to be very busy and wants to get in and get out fast, doesn't seem they care too much about my dog. However after going to many vet, only if you are lucky to get an experienced vet like my old vet who sincerely cared about their dogs and runs his own practice, most of the vet hospitals are similar and porter is definitely a decent one. I also had a small problem with the male front staff. One time this lady was checking out in front of me for her cat and she was crying uncontrollably. The male staff was checking her out and he didn't say anything, just kind avoid eye contact with her. That woman was clearly in grieving! maybe they see it all the time? I went up to the woman and asked if everything is ok, she said her cat is dying. I mean just seem really cold to not even try to comfort her! The price is not cheap but I been to many vet in my life, nothing really that different from other hospital. Read Less

It seems to me this practice is more interested in passing services--such as suggesting treatment option, doing research into options, prescribing the correct does of meds, and drawing blood--on to other professionals while still charging for the visit.I took my injured bunny for treatment; the woman vet couldn't or wouldn't suggest treatment (didn't even do any subsequent research); gave a referral, but guessed bunny would be put down; criticized my care of the bunny (!); and seemed to think I was lying about the injury's cause (!).A specialist, however, not only told me she didn't consider putting bunny down an option, but knew of a treatment right away; the specialist also said the dose of pain meds this woman vet gave me was too low to be very effective (what kind of vet can't prescribe the correct amount of medicine for an injured animal?).The last straw was when this woman vet canceled an essential blood draw for my bunny the day before bunny's scheduled surgery, because this vet thought it was too hard.Save yourself the trouble and the $$, and go directly to Angell. I was reluctant because of the mixed reviews, but we were getting two kitties and needed a vet. EVERY visit here has been great from the medical treatment to the attitude of the people working the front desk. The doctors are great at answering questions, take your concerns seriously, service is prompt and efficient. Whenever the kitties have had issues (one had a slight problem after being spayed) they were seen quickly and there was ALWAYS a follow-up call inquiring about their recovery. Even my cats like going to the vet! They don't associate it with any distress, and I don't notice it in the pets of any of the other patrons I've met. Read Less

I have been going to Porter Square Veterinary Practice since it was actually located in Porter Square! At the time, the office was run by Dr. Timothy Snyder. He was wonderful! Dr. Bujalski joined him, and the practice grew. I took my first dog there, and have been taking my dogs there ever since...almost 30+ years. I have always found the practice able to meet the needs of my animals. They support me as a pet owner, and always schedule me in a timely manner. While the cost of veterinary medicine has increased, if I ask, I always get answers regarding questions of cost and necessity of treatment. For each owner, expense becomes a personal choice, and I feel that this is recognized by the practice, and respected! Vets who have seen my dogs have been sensitive and gentle, gauging the personality of my dog and his/her comfort level before beginning exams and administering treatment. The support staff are attentive and helpful! I would not hesitate to recommend this practice to any pet owner. However, I would also remind anyone who owns a pet that it is up to you to question and state your preferences clearly. Vets are not mind readers, and can better address the needs of your animal if you are forthright about your wants and needs regarding the care of your pet. Currently, Dr. Bujalski treats my aging standard poodle. He is warm, caring and interested in her well being. As he put it, she is aging ""gracefully"". I can thank the care she has received from Porter Square Veterinary Practice for seeing her successfully through her life! Thank-you! Read Less

My experience is always a good one, the office is clean and professional, the receptionists really care about your pet and the vets are knowledgeable, smart and caring. My cat has seen both Dr. Grosser and Dr. Bujowski. Last week my cat had a serious problem where he couldn't urinate, they rushed him in, admitted him and within hours relieved the blockage. He is doing fine now, thanks to the help of the staff for getting him in right away and to Dr. Bujowski for unblocking him.

2. The vet was professional, informed, and did the necessary blood work and shaved a small area of her fur where she had noticed an open wound that needed healing.

Read Less

Taking your dog to the vet should be treated like taking your baby to the doctor. The receptionists here are rude, the phone team takes forever to answer (if at all), vet tech appointments mean you can be with your pet during shots or microchip placement. They assume owners are completely stupid (someone once insisted my dog likely has ring worm on the phone because they assumed I left her in a kennel). The wait time for appointments is alright once you get there. The vets themselves are nice and laid back and super friendly. It's everything that has to happen before you get to the vet that is highly frustrating. Read Less

porter square vet has the worst customer service I have ever experienced.  Every time I have visited they have been rude and acted like I was putting them at an inconvenience to do their jobs.  Prepare for long waits when you call to schedule an appointment and then a curt discussion. The one star is for the actual vets- every interaction with them has been positive.Today, I called and had staff quickly diagnose my dog with an ear infection. However conveniently they are not available to treat him at this time.  But could maybe fit him into the schedule in 5 days. This is my neighborhood vet and they are an ABSOLUTE DISAPPOINTMENT.  I recommend looking for a vet that acts like they care about customers and their animals! We love this place! Our vet, Dr. Usiak, is an amazing and caring vet. I do wish their fee was a little lower, but its great care so I will deal with it for now. The first consultation for a problem is $60, followed by $40 for follow-ups. This adds up really quick, especially with medication. Our average bill at the vet is ~$150.

Read Less

Dr. Jardayna Werlin is the vet who started crying when I voiced my concern. They then attempted to charge me 80 dollars for an emergent visit when I was quoted 60 over the phone. Their practice manager just makes excuses for all the vets and staff. There is a huge lack of empathy for animals and their humans When trying to inquire about who owned the office. I was told by the receptionist that is wasn't worth my time reaching out to John G, Bujalski DVM... He doesn't return calls about negative comments. Not worth my time. Better to just visit another vets office. Please take your animal any where else.

Dr. Grosser who my boy usually sees is excellent and really takes the time to listen to you and to explain her point of view. Couldn't be happier! Read Less
