Winter Hill Veterinary Clinic

Somerville, Massachusetts
General Info
Winter Hill Veterinary Clinic assists families from Somerville and other areas to structure pet care using predictable patterns along with behavioral staging and responsive planning throughout every life stage in Massachusetts. During initial visit moments, staff members scrutinize pacing patterns alongside vocal expressions and physical stances while monitoring eye movements to formulate their interaction strategy. Physical evaluations include hydration level coat inspection oral status core strength limb motion and balance control. Through structured conversation experts record owner observations which include recent social behavior patterns and appetite changes as well as noise sensitivity and sleep disruptions. Winter Hill Veterinary Clinic delivers comprehensive veterinary services including diagnostics and preventive screenings alongside dental work and minor procedures while also offering post-operative support and chronic condition monitoring. The number of pets in the home combined with available caregiver time and the need for emotional processing after difficult visits determine staging adjustments. Long-form instructions together with visual diagrams enable families to perform at-home follow-ups without encountering ambiguity. Schedules are fluid. Pet owners receive encouragement to modify their plans whenever necessary based on their animal's adjustment progress. The implementation of optional check-ins combined with asynchronous updates maintains healthcare progress while minimizing unneeded stress. Guidance emerges through printed summaries combined with communication tiering and pain behavior maps to determine subsequent actions. Winter Hill Veterinary Clinic delivers veterinary services throughout Somerville and Massachusetts by aligning with household capacities while respecting animal cues and caregiver circumstances during each interaction.

After bringing our elderly cat and dog to Dr. Neenan for a number of years, she informed us that she no longer wished to care for our animals. Prior to her informing us of this decision, there was a brief series of email/phone interactions with my wife and her office, in which there appeared to be some minor miscommunication and frustration on both sides. It seemed pretty minor from my perspective, certainly nothing worthy of terminating a long term relationship involving elderly pets. We always had a great relationship with everybody in Emily’s office and this came as kind of a surprise. I would recommend a more experienced and professional Doctor for your animals. -Ryan Read Less

Surprised at my experience given the reviews. Recently found a young female cat with a collar but no tags that had been hanging around for a few about a week. We were looking to temporarily take her in while we looked for her owner and/or found new ones, but were concerned given our own animals. So we reached out to Winter Hill Veterinary Clinic hoping that I could get an appointment for a quick check up for any diseases, micro chip or pregnancy(or even recent birth) etc etc. After explaining the situation and being put on hold for a minute or so, I was told that I should call animal control and let them handle it, and that was that. Very disappointed, given the openness of other local veterinary clinics to help and schedule an appointment shortly after. Read Less

I love Dr Neenan! I adopted two cats two years ago, and she’s been their vet for the whole ride. The office is a purely joyful and kind place, and they really care for your pets. I have been able to connect for different crisis without problems, I only wish they had later hours (though I understand it’s a small office). When I’ve had to take my cats to the emergency vet because of the lack of availability I’ve always known it would’ve been better if I had been able to take them here. For specifics; one of my cats is prone to crystals in his urine and sometimes strains to pee which is a very bad sign. To take care of him, we’ve needed to give him prazadon and sometimes a painkiller. He also takes prescription food c/d which seems to help. Winter hill vet has accommodated and helped make sure he’s happy and healthy without delay. I highly recommend! Read Less

Any Veterinary clinic with the courage to take a stand against declawing cats and cropping dogs ears and tails, is working for the benefit of the animals. They are not working solely to pad their pockets. Declawing is a misnomer, the claw isn't being removed, the entire upper joints of each little kitty toe is being cut off. Often without the benefit of anaesthesia. Imagine having the top joint of every finger cut off. Then imagine you walk on those finger tips, like cats walk on their toes. They suffer the rest of their lives. The vast majority of cats turned into shelters are declawed, because of behavior problems. They avoid the litter box because walking on that texture is painful. They begin to bite, because their first line if defense, their claws, are gone. Please watch the movie THE PAW PROJECT. it's available on Netflix. You could probably get a copy from your local library. It will open your eyes to declawing. These Vets are heroes! Standing up for their patients, patients who cannot speak for themselves. Thank you for not declawing cats! Any veterinarian who does not perform barbaric outdated unnecessary p3 toe amputations on cats is tops in my book. I take my cats and dogs to a veterinarian who does not declaw cats, even if I have to travel an extra 20 minutes, it is worth it, they don't cry and whine in the car anymore like they used to when we used our ex-vet. Animals are sentient beings, not property for humans to mutilate. No wonder they used to cry on the way to our ex-vet, they were wondering if any of their body parts were going to get amputated. I have been bringing my three dogs to the Winter Hill Veterinary Clinic since I moved to the Boston metro area in 2004. I have always found the employees to be both professional and warm. Your pets are part of your family and the folks at Winter Hill Veterinary Clinic keep that in mind when working with you and your beloved animals. Last year I had to make the heartbreaking decision of euthanizing my English Springer Spaniel, Milla. She had a large malignant bone tumor growing in her mouth. Dr. O'Donnell was a source of strength and knowledge for me when trying to figure out the right time to put my dog down. When the time came, the staff was extremely compassionate during the procedure but did not waiver in their professionalism. It went smoothly and although it was a very difficult day for my little family, we got through it feeling like we did the right thing. I am thankful to the staff at Winter Hill Vet for helping me and Milla during that difficult time. Winter hill vet has accommodated and helped make sure he’s happy and healthy without delay. I highly recommend! Read Less

The amount of personal interest on behalf of her and the other vet techs just warms my heart and lets me know our dogs are not just income for them - they always follow up, check in, and are otherwise attentive to our dogs' needs and have been very flexible with me during hard scheduling times.I've rarely ever experienced this compassion and professionalism anywhere else! Give them all of your business!Read Less

And if I ever have to make that type of decision again, at least I know that I will have guidance without pressure from Dr. O'Donnell and the Winter Hill Vet staff. Read Less
