Re: In the Matter of Mark Colin Jawitz, VT 14-016. In or about September 2013, you submitted an Application for Complaint against Mark C. Jawitz to the Massachusetts Board of Registration in Veterinary Medicine. Your application led to a formal proceeding before the Board, which was recently resolved by Consent Agreement between the Board and Dr. Jawitz under which Dr. Jawitz paid a fine and received a Formal Reprimand. The participation of consumers like you is vital to the Board's performance of its duties. Your involvement and assistance in this matter have been greatly appreciated. Sincerely, D.K., Prosecuting Counsel, Massachusetts Division of Professional Licensure, 1000 Washington Street, Boston, MA 02118 COMPLAINT: September 2013, Letter to Massachusetts Division of Professional Licensure. Mark Jawitz, DVM, is negligent and guilty of veterinary malpractice. His license should be suspended. I mistakenly entrusted him with the care of my cat, for an examination and required vaccinations for a heath certificate, for our move to San Francisco. On 8/3/2011, I watched Jawitz give my cat a rabies vaccine in the lower right side rib cage area, and not in her right rear limb like he should have done. He could have asked me or a tech to assist, but instead he chose to administer the shot in the side. My cat has a Vaccination-Site Fibrosarcoma diagnosed by five veterinarians at two separate practices. My primary vet and pathologist diagnosed a possible Fibrosarcoma and referred me to a surgeon at a specialty practice. The surgeon removed the tumor and the second pathologist confirmed Vaccination-Site Fibrosarcoma. Because of Jawitz's negligence, my cat is terminally ill. All the veterinarians that I consulted (see attachments) said that the injection should have been administered in the back leg and confirmed that the correct method is well established and widely taught in veterinary school. Vaccination-Site Fibrosarcoma and its cause has been quite well known for years. Jawitz' actions in treating my cat are nothing short of negligent. My cat is terminally ill and dying. Because of Jawitz' malpractice, in the near future I will be forced to euthanize my otherwise healthy and vibrant cat. I trust that Massachusetts Division of Professional Licensure will investigate Jawitz' malpractice noted in this complaint and take serious action. I found out too late that, Mark Colin Jawitz, (License # 3568) has two previous disciplinary actions taken against him. If I had the option of no stars I would. It started off with Dr. J yanking my poor cat out of his carrier, terrifying my poor cat. He then held my cat down, and it looked like my poor cat’s face was going to rip off. What happens when you’re a scared cat and someone just yanks you out of your safe haven? You hiss and swipe. They couldn’t get his bloodwork for his neutering done because he was “too feisty.” What “professional” vet can’t hold a cat to get bloodwork done? He was rude answering my questions, said he could nueter him, but there was a high chance of him dying. No. Abort. Not only that, we sent them a fecal sample to test for worms...everything came back negative....or not. They test for everything except tapeworm, which I found on him MYSELF. And they tell me this AFTER I discovered the tapeworms. They tried charging me for their error, and the medication that didn’t even work on him. I had to go elsewhere for a medication that actually worked on him. Please, for the love of God, go elsewhere and save yourself the headache here!!!! Read Less

I have been taking my cats to Dr. Jawitz and his team for over 30 years! His care and compassion for the animals is unparalleled by any other veterinarian I've ever met. I wouldn't trust my three precious cats with any other practice! Further, the staff is friendly, knowledgeable, appointments always run on time, and they always accommodate a quick visit if someone has a sudden cold or issue for which they need an appointment ASAP. I was introduced to Stoneham Animal hospital with my cat Jack, whom did not need the surgery he already had at another vet. Jack was well cared for with Dr. Jawitz and now my dog Celie goes there. I no longer live as close to the Stoneham animal hospital but I won't choose another vet ever. When my cat Jacks time was due to go to heaven everyone at S.A.H. I've been a long time clients of Stoneham Animal Hospital and Dr. J going back to our first Black Lab almost 20 years ago. The atmosphere is warm and inviting and the staff greet you in a friendly manner when you walk in the door. They are punctual and run on time in getting you in to see the vet without delay. I feel they take the time to get to know the animal and also spend time answering any questions I might have without making me feel rushed or that my concerns are not important. My dogs always love to "Go for a ride". The amazing thing is that when we end up at Stoneham Animal Hospital for our appointment there is no hesitation or reservation on the dogs part to get out of the car. She climbs right out and walks right in. I think this speaks volumes on how the Doctor and Staff interact with the animals from the animals perspective. If it was an unpleasant experience my dog would remember and not want to get out of the car. I would highly recommend using them as their service has always been top notch and personal. Read Less

I have been a client of Dr. Mark Jawitz and Stoneham Animal Hospital since February 2003 when I purchased two Cairn Terriers from a pet store called PJ's Pet Center in Saugus, MA where Dr. Jawitz was then the veterinarian caring for the dogs and cats in that store. I had never owned a dog before and had no idea what to do. I chose Dr. Jawitz as my veterinarian because he had known my puppies before I did and had already been caring for them. I bought them when they were about six months old. It is now thirteen years later. We have received excellent care all these years at Stoneham Animal Hospital. We have had routine care and emergencies pop up as well. In addition, I have had to board my dogs about 11-13 times over the years and needed a place I could trust to care for them for as long as three weeks at a time. I had a male dog who passed away on 11/27/15 and I still have the female dog who will be fourteen in July 2016. Both dogs loved Dr. Jawitz and the staff at Stoneham Animal Hospital and were happy to be cared for there and to be boarded there. They always received special care and were fed food and lots of snacks that I provided for them. During one stay, I did not have time to cut up roast chicken for them to mix with their Freshpet dog food. Dr. Jawitz noticed that my female dog would not eat without the chicken mixed in. He promptly went out and purchased deli turkey for her so she would eat her food! When he told me this story, I was recovering from a knee replacement surgery and was so pleased that he had cared for my dogs with such loving and special care. It took a load off of my mind and enabled me to recover without worry. Our time as a client of Stoneham Animal Hospital has been a wonderful adventure for us. The staff has loved my dogs, cared for them as I would and they have had long, happy lives without too many problems. My male dog received care when he was hit by a car and both dogs have had growths removed with laser surgery by Dr. Jawitz. Dr. Jawitz has a marvelous sense of humor and his staff really loves my dogs. As my male dog aged, I had to seek specialty eye care for him as well as specialty care when he recovered from the car accident. Otherwise, Dr. Jawitz and his staff have been in charge of them, cared for them, healed them and me all these years. I have been grateful to have such a loving, professional staff to rely on all this time. I highly recommend Stoneham Animal Hospital and would not hesitate to share the care of your pet family with them. In my opinion, it is a top notch place. Dated March 24, 2016. Read Less

I have been using Stoneham Animal Hospital since 1985 when I first moved to Stoneham. I love Dr. Jawitz, who has been there most of that time. He has always been able to help me with any issues my 5 cats have had. I have been able to call him for information and talk to him when I have been in. His staff has always been friendly and helpful. Over the years there have been one or two people at the front desk I have not been crazy about, but over all they have been great. I have known Dr. Jaworitz and his associates for over 20 years. Our first beloved husky we "rescued" was under his care and at the end of her years had an operation and seizures ensued. Dr. Jaworitz and his staff were caring and sensitive in helping us during a difficult time of caring for "Lady." When she passed, we were touched by a personal note from him stating his condolences. Our next "rescue" dog " Princess" was under their expert care as well for her lifespan, as well as our third dog "Happy." In the time I have known Dr. Jaworitz and his staff, which spans beyond the lifetime of many of the many less-informed "contributors" to this forum, I have only been treated with the upmost respect and professionalism. I highly recommend Stoneham Animal Hospital. We have a white German Shepard Zoey. We had an emergency with her and the took her right away and took care of our four legged friend with much love and compassion . They found her problem got her straightened out that day. I've been going to Stoneham Animal Hospital for over 10years. Dr. Jawitz and his staff have always taken excellent care of my pets through the many different phases if their lives. I've moved to Salem and still drive to Stoneham for vet care and wouldn't change that. They have a bulletin board in their waiting room covered with thank you cards and lost and found pets, they post regularly postings all over the state of lost pets trying to help these little guys reunite with their families. I wish I could give less than 1star! Dr Jawitz doesn't care for the health of your pets, just the amount of money in your wallet! I've never seen a vet appointment last longer than 5 minutes. You can barely get a word in, let alone ask any important question regarding the health of your pet. The staff is nice but the Dr is very rude. After a VERY friendly conversation with the Dr over questioning the legitimacy of mulitple appointments for continuous blood work, he mailed me a letter telling me to seek business elsewhere! My pet needed medication and shots and he refused to see him! Very shady! Stay away! Read Less

Note this is an update from just the stars I enterd last year. The comment is as of 11/3/2014 I have been going to him for almost 13 years now. My cat has been in the middle of a serious health crisis. If it had not been for Doctor Jawitz I am sure my cat would have died this summer. He may still die now as he has just been diagnosed with cancer. I just spoke with him to tell him about the specialist diagnosing Pepper with Cancer. His whole voice dropped and I could hear the sadness in Dr. Jawitz voice. He truly cares about the animals in his care. The staff is A+ too. I am in the office so much because of my cat's illness. They all recognize me on site and the first words out of any of them is "How is Pepper". Read Less
