They don’t care, they just don’t. My dog was brought in about 4 weeks ago. They kept him for a couple days, said they didn’t know what was wrong with him but were pretty convinced it was rat poisoning that he ingested. Sent him home with a bunch of meds to treat all different kinds of thing’s because they had no idea. His health started failing increasingly yesterday, we called them to bring him back in they refused us and recommended we go to bay state. Within a half hr of bay state checking out my dog they found out he had cancer, so bad and so severe it was through his whole body and even his bones. How did Mass-ri miss it? Even the vet we brought him to was astonished that it was missed. Almost 4 weeks of taking our money, playing with our emotions and letting our dog suffer. Never again! Read Less

The people at Mass-RI Veterinary ER are so wonderful. Today I brought my bulldog, Coco, panicked because I woke up to my comforter covered in blood. She had a deep gash, next to a hernia she's had for years. Given that it's Sunday, our usual vet and others around me were not open. Those that were open, were already booked up for the day. I was able to bring Coco here and they saw her much quicker than I expected for a walk-in! The vet was probably the nicest vet I've interacted with, and everyone who worked her was so kind and understanding of my fears. They fixed her right up, gave her antibiotics, and of course lots of pets and attention throughout the visit to keep Coco calm. The price was very affordable for a 24/7 animal hospital, I couldn't have asked for better service. I will be recommending this place to anyone who needs emergency help for their fur babies! I brought my 16 month old German Shepherd with classical symptoms of pancreatitis, which I learned after I took him to Tufts Vet Hospital in Walpole. They conducted Barium Study, Lyme Disease Panel and tests for Addison's. All negative. On the third day he appeared better and was discharged. They talked me out of transferring him to Tufts because since it was a Sunday Murphy would not get an emergency ultrasound since it wasn't an emergency. The morning after I let Murphy run with friends in that I was told Murphy was fine. I called Dr Krane who told me that I needed to immediately take Murphy to Tufts. Within three minutes at Tufts, Dr Hammond told me Murphy had either pancreatitis or a blockage. RI Mass told me they could find nothing wrong with Murphy after having three days and $1800. Dr Hammond was disappointed Murphy was not diagnosed or sent to Tufts immediately. Incompetence comes to mind and gross negligence in the care of Murphy. I just woke up to police at my door demanding evidence that my cat was treated after leaving Mass-RI Veterinary E.R. I went to them at 2 A.M very concerned about my cat whose leg was injured. When I arrived they expressed zero concern for me or Nikita and the first words to come out of the secretaries mouth was "you know about the fees, right?" I said yes, of course, knowing I needed to get my cat checked out. She then took Nikita into the back and told me to sit in the room and wait for the veterinarian. When the vet entered the room she didn't even introduce herself to me, (which is why I unfortunately don't have her name for this) and looked at me as if I was an inconvenience. She began to tell me that Nikita was going to have to go under anesthesia so she can preform surgery on her abdominal cavities WHICH WAS ENTIRELY UNNECESSARY. I'm not a veterinarian or a doctor by any means but I do happen to know that the leg is, in fact, not part of the abdomen. I told her that i know where the injury was and I didn't think this was necessary. She stared at me with a cocky attitude and said "so with that being said everything will come to $1200". I then told her that I would be more comfortable taking Nikita to her primary vet in just a few hours if she could give me antibiotics until then. She rolled her eyes at me and exited the room. I asked the secretary to give me my cat back, told her that I was uncomfortable with the vets attitude and that I wanted to leave. The veterinarian at NO POINT came out to speak to me or express concern for Nikita's well being. But the secretary made sure to collect her $110 fee for me walking through the door. Clearly they knew they misbehaved because by the time I got home with Nikita (after a 35 minute drive just coming back) the secretary called me and said "the vet is concerned with Nikita now and wants to give you medicine if it's money you're worried about it will be covered." You're concerned now???? Long story short, I went to a different veterinarian who told me I was ABSOLUTELY in the right and that Nikita did NOT need any kind of surgery or even stitches for that matter. They treated my cat like a patient and not a way to make some extra money off of a scared owner. They gave me antibiotics, wound washer and ointment and told me Nikita will be herself in just a couple of days. Update, she's already running around and jumping up and down just fine, ZERO need for surgery. So yes Mass RI Veterinary E.R., my cat was treated. Thank you for your waste of time and "professional opinion" Read Less

My husband and I visited last week when my dog Cinnamon started seizing. She was 14 years old and did not have a history of seizures. They rushed her right into the back and started an IV to give her some medicine immediately. She had had a cough for about a month so they decided to do a chest X-ray. Unfortunately it turned out that my poor dog had lung cancer. The mass was very large and fatal. We had to put her down. We were able to spend as much time with her as we wanted to in a private room before notifying the staff that we were ready. It was a very emotional 20 minutes. The staff and the doctor were very caring and supportive. Thier bedside manner was excellent. I was able to hold her on my lap while she got the injections. Afterward the doctor was so kind and apologetic. I could hold her as long as I wanted to. They have a cremation service with several different beautiful urns to choose from. We just got ours back today. Also it came with a gift from the hospital-Cinnamon's pawprints pressed in a circle of clay with her name around it. It was so pretty it made me cry all over again. They definitely do their best to try to help people that are in a very emotional and sad situation. They go above and beyond their call of duty every day to help people. I have another dog and when that day comes for her, I won't hesitate to bring her here. 5 stars for sure. Read Less

worst experience ever. I rescue animals for a living also am a vet tech and signed a paper to get a discount because of being a vet tech. I rescued a kitten and I use air wick in my house to make it smell good with having many rescues you want to do everything you can. on air wicks part the had a malfunction with the product and the oils where all on the outside. I never knew this till I went to change this I saw the kitten "Minnie" on my bed laying down acting weird but thought he was just sick till I went to change the air wick in my room and had oils all over my hand. my daughter and I quickly gave him a bath and we got him to vomit. I was on the phone with poison control and even have a case against air wick now. I rushed him to this vet and there where so inconsiderate there is a lady there named "Nichole" I have never met someone so careless In my life. 1) they strongly believed my cat was going to die because he would either end up having a seizer or having pheunomia and I needed 75% of $1000 for them to care for him which being a rescue and single mother I don't have on me and they wouldn't do a payment plan 2) they knew this kitten was suffering and they didn't even offer to euthanize him they just wanted $1000 from me for him to suffer and end up dying 3) when they finally decided to give me my kitten back they threw the kitten in my daughters arms and they where complaining that he had a very low body temperature and we brought him in with a blanket and "Nichole" wanted to send him home without it so he could get even colder. 4) the lady was laughing in my face saying even the hospital you have to pay for or they won't care for you which is false because you have medical or they bill you. 5) The lady was trying to say I don't care about animals when I rescue ALL animals in any situation and I asked what they do for animals they see on the side of the rode. she replied " we don't want to see them suffer we call the humane society and put them down" that is how they care for animals it could be even 1 hour old and the mother could have just abandoned it and they would euthanize it and not give it a chance, it could have just a fracture and they wouldn't even try to help it at least I will do my hardest. 6) all i had was $50 and it is 75% of their $95 visit charge then they refused to take my money and I work at animal associates and she made me sign a paper so I get a discount I did not get any discount. and then sent me a final notice to pay it all at once or it will be sent to collection and I didn't even get a first notice. this vet is full of inconsiderate people and is a joke I highly suggest going to Bay State Veterinary Emergency Services they are so much more respectful and caring and they actually work with you and are reasonable. I wish I went there but I was a mess and crying and was not thinking straight. R.I.P Minnie at least he passed away with a family who truly cares about him very much and we got to burry him properly like he deserved. you will definitely be missed Minnie. Read Less

They saved his life this night and I'll be forever grateful! Staff is wonderful and very patient! I called twice on the same day after he came home with questions and they answered all my questions. Rushed my cat in, for respiratory distress. She has seizures and needs a specific treatment. The doctor nearly demanded $1500 UP FRONT to do tests because my vet wasn't open to get the records. REFUSED to give me my cat back so I could get her to another emergency clinic! After demanding they do the treatment that she responds to, they waited and told me it wasn't working and we'd have to put her down. Then decided we could pay $$$ to keep her suffering on oxygen until the specialist arrived in the morning and have him take a look at her. In the morning I would go to my own vet, but they gave a speech about the $$ being the same for the specialist blah, blah, $$, blah $$$, blah, $$$$. We couldn't let her suffer so we made the heartbreaking decision to put her down. While we waited, the medication we insisted they give her started to take effect and she bounced back - minutes before the lethal injection. They only care about the $$$$$ not the pet, and not the owner. The vet was heartless! The tech was at least sympathetic to the situation.Read Less

I have bought my pup Louie here on several occasions and staffis really nice. My last visit was because my dogs leg was limp. My first thought was luxating patella (common in pugs). I brought him thinking I would be paying for surgery not euthanizing my dog. The vet took a few xrays and it showed a broken femur bone. He hadn't done anything to have broken it though. She explained that it was possibly bone cancer and our only option to confirm would be amputation to biopsy. Lou was 10 with arthritis in his hips so amputation would not have been good for him. I paid a few extra $ to have surgeon look at xray and give second opinion. Based on his age and location of break it was thought to be cancer. Rather than amputate and start chemo (which would only prolong the inevitable) we decided the more humane thing to do would be euthanize. It is very unfortunate that they don't actually have a radiologist on staff to read xrays since they take them. I struggled for awhile with my decision because of this. I think had an actual radiologist gave me an opinion I would have felt better about it . They offer a cremation service and make a little paw print plaque for you. Originally I was told $140 but it ended up being $180 because of his weight. My overall bill was about $600. It was hard to pay this when you lose your dog and don't feel like you have a solid answer. The staff seems to be very compassionate. I would bring my pets here again but perhaps not for xrays. Ended up going to MSPCA Boston Hospital who did a terrffic job but it was to late. In Boston ware it was full treament which would not have worked or no treatment at all. which was the correct way. Past treatment was also questioned. They put it on the line there was no treatment in between Not half treatment just for the buck and sending the animal home to die. Please drive the extra 60 miles to Boston it is worth it. My ketty had to be put down which was done in a such humane and caring way and atsmusphere. Also free of charge as the believe no animal should suffer. If I had gone to Boston eairler I think the doctors being so knowledgeable there and stright forward no half truths my cat would have been put down eairler because there was no hope for her to servive in the begining. Like all of these kinds of places, extremely expensive and they want a 75% deposit on your estimated bill before they'll do anything. Sent my cat home with a blocked bile duct because I didn't have the $2,000 they demanded immediately. Brought him back a week later after I finally managed to raise the money--only to have them tell me that the original estimate was wrong and the bill would be closer to $4600 for which they wanted a $3500 deposit, which I didn't have. So they turned my cat away again even though he was in critical condition by this time. Ended up having to bring him to another vet later that day to be euthanized. Truly heartless. Read Less

We came here due to our regular vet being closed.  It was a weekend night and our dog was not acting like herself and we decided we had to bring her to the ER.  We called before arriving and once we got there were taken into an exam room right away and greeted by the nurse.  Both the Vet and Vet Nurse that assisted us were very nice and good with our dog.  Our dog seems timid at first but once she smells you she will lick you and that is exactly what she did with both men that took care of her.  We were unsure what was wrong with our dog so of course they asked us many questions as they were trying to narrow down what could be wrong with her.  Her symptoms were panting, rapid heart rate, head down, tail between the legs and just wanting to be with her mommy (very skittish).  Just very abnormal for our happy loving lab.  Before anything started the nurse gave us an explanation and an estimate of the procedures they wanted to run.  After doing blood work and xrays the Vet Nurse noticed her tail never moved while she was on the exam table.  He then realized what was wrong, Swimmers Tail aka Limber Tail Syndrome.  I googled it and here is more about it "store.ilovedogs.com/2013…;.The Nurse and Vet came back in and told us what was going on with her and what needs to be done in order for her to heal and feel better. Rest, no wagging of the tail and medication as it is very painful.  Our dog had not been swimming or excessive playing on that day which are known to be causes of swimmers tail, so we're still unsure of the actual cause.  I'm just happy she is healing and feeling better. We were there a total of 2 hours from about 10pm to midnight but it was not bad considering the tests they ran.I can't thank the staff enough for how well the treated us and our dog, their great communication skills and actually figuring out what was wrong with our little girl.  She is feeling so much better and is already back to wagging her happy little tail. This IS the place. That's about as simple as it needs to get.  If your pet is sick or hurt.  Take him/her here.  plain and simple. My cat was transferred here from my vet because my vet closed at midnight, and the cat needed continuous monitoring--had a catheter, etc.  These folks treated him like royalty.  My cat ultimately stayed there for another surgery, and a total of 5 days.  Every day I got at least one call from a doctor doing rounds, and another call from a vet tech on an update.  I also visited every  day, and saw the care they heap on their 'patients'.  I also got a chance to see the 'nature of their work'.  Sometimes the waiting room would be close to empty, and other times it was slammed.  Regardless, they always made time for me and my questions and concerns.Quite simply, this is an emergency room and hospital.  Just like one you would go to for emergency care, but for animals.  With competent and caring doctors, qualified and empathetic vet techs, and some wonderful communication systems! I'm naturally suspicious when it comes to the vets.  I think most people are.  But aside from a couple of small hiccups along the way I think that the job done to save my cat was good.  Communication was a little on the slow side, and that is one thing that, as much as I understand they are busy, they have to keep in mind that this is someone's child in their hospital and they should act accordingly by making calls as much as possible with status updates.   Also, they have this great option on their check in paperwork, that they can text you pictures of your animal!  That, I should say would be great if they actually did it.  I even reminded them to and they said they would, but they never did.  So really this is a 4 1/2 star review that I am rounding up to, because there should be a simple question asked:  Did they do their job?  The answer all day long is yes.  I'm not going to comment on prices because I think we ALL know that is just silly to comment on. Like many others who have reviewed the Mass/RI Veterinary ER I am convinced my pet would have died without the compassionate care of the associates working there. My six-year-old cat had been breathing heavy for a little while and we tried making an appointment with our regular vet but they gave us a two-week wait time. About four days after that initial call my husband and I came home from work to find that our cat was panting and breathing much more audibly than before. We took him to their Swansea facility and they immediately brought him in for x-rays and put him on oxygen. Three days and a few tears later, our cat is back home with us, on five prescriptions and recovering from the ordeal in which we discovered he had heart disease. They even texted us pictures of him while he was staying overnight to let us know he was comfortable and feeling better. While his medical challenges are a common issue with his breed we might never have found that out until too late if not for the Mass/RI Veterinary ER. We are very, very lucky to have such a practice in our community to help our furry friends and if your animal is ever having an emergency do not hesitate to bring them in for help. Read Less

Read Less

My mothers beloved Shih Tzu (Stella) died suddenly this evening. due to the nature and abruptness of the dogs passing we were in complete shock and really didn't know what to do. to make matters worse it's a major holiday so our dogs primary veterinary was closed.A quick thinking family member advised us to call Mass-RI Veterinarian ER. I'm so grateful for this recommendation because the staff were incredibly calm while I called in a blubbering mess and when we arrived they quickly ushered us into a private room so we could fill out the necessary paperwork and have time to say our goodbyes in private. The vet techs who helped us were professional, calm, and compassionate. they even took the impression of our dogs paws and baked the mold right on site so we could go home with it tonight. I should also mention that the fees associated with our dogs cremation were minimal which was a relief because I know these services can run into the hundreds.I hope to not endure such a thing again anytime soon but if I should you can bet I'll be using Mass-RI veterinary ER. worst experience ever. Read Less

This place saved my cats life. One day she was fine and the next day she couldn't walk. They diagnosed her in 30 minutes and were 100% on point. She has severe renal problems and I never knew. She was so anemic she was on the verge of having problems breathing. Her other vet never picked up on it. After 6 very anxious days she came home. Tonight is the second night home and she is happy and doing well. We have a long road ahead of her with long term care required, which they made very clear. They treated my princess as the princess she is. I would recommend this place to everyone. My cat Trinity will be forever greatful to this place and I will never forget the kindness and professionalism shown.Read Less

Cat brought on for a blockage at 1130pm. They give the price to take care of it and keep him in the hospital 1300-1500 estimate. We tell them Ok lets do what we gotta do. They say Ok we need $954 right now before we do anything. Well I have $500 on me can I get the rest first thing in the am. Their response NO, WTH, it's now midnight and you can't help the cat because I don't have a lousy $400 for deposit. They would not do it. They could care less about a member of your family suffering and are just money hungry. Had him unblocked and will be bringing him to Anchor in the morning at least it's not all about money there. Anchor really seems to care about the animals. Read Less

The doc was able to successfully remove everything only going in through his stomach. I was very shocked and pleased to say that the staff here was honest enough to tell us that the entire bill came in under the estimate and we will receive a refund! Service at the front desk was good but the Doc was not very knowledgeable. My kitty was not treated completly only half treated for them just to make a buck. Such a humane place everything was arragned from emergency treatment to cremation. what made it a little more easy I recieved a clay box with my kittys last paw prints in it made me feel a little better.Read Less

We have taken both of our dogs here on several occasions. Bleeding gums, tooth stuck in our dogs mouth, dog ran into a car, and a few other incidents. They are open 24/7 and always provide great care. Our most recent visit was to put our dog down who had a seizure that day. They did a test and saw that she was internally bleeding. The vet came in and calmly explained to is what was happening and we had to say bye to our best friend that day. This place though was so great. They let us say bye to her, they have us a mold with her paw print and name on it, and put her in a box with a flower on top for us to bring her home in. Everyone at this office was so genuinely sorry for us. Very sympathetic and genuine people. Read Less

Read Less

The quickness in which this happened was extremely professional. The vet assessed my dog and offered me many options of how to proceed. She explained everything - and I mean everything - in detail & was upfront about costs. Costs were manageable for the care provided. Pets who spend the night are allowed a visit and they can text you a picture of your pet if you would like (WOW!!!).The entire staff is amazing from the moment you arrive until you leave. I brought my dog here on a Saturday night.  Being accustomed to the human emergency department experience, I expected long waits and short time with the vet.  On the contrary, I barely waited at all, and the vet patiently answered all of my questions (even those not related to the acute visit) and reassured me.  The vet seemed extremely competent, presented multiple options for how to proceed, and was cost conscious.  Unlike my normal vet, I wasn't pressured to pursue the "do everything, no cost spared" approach when doing so wasn't really reasonable.  They called to check on my dog on Monday, which was very nice.  I left having spent less money than I had expected, and felt the pricing was reasonable.Highly recommended.
