my beautiful 15 yr old dog had been a 15 yr client. after being told they would need 2 days for an end of life house visit earlier this year, I was told they couldn't see him for the rest of the week when we called on a Wednesday. They were booked. I ended up calling Andover Animal hospital who came the next morning. After claiming Dr. Caruso is wonderful for end of life care, this was not the case.  They referred us to another service. By Friday, you would think their would be a follow up call to see what had happened, but no.  I called them to let them know, and said how not compassionate they were after 15 years.  I would not recommend them to another pet owner. I have to agree with Shar M - the first time I went I was very pleased... the second visit for a rabies shot was a disaster! Upon entering the exam room the tech started plying my cat with little piles of treats and she didn't stop! When the vet entered she started with the treats - all in all more than I give my cat in days (BTW, no treats the first visit, no problems) -- then the vet pulls my cat away from the treats and he didn't react well -- downhill from there - my cat hissed, his back went up and he screamed; I've never seen any of this behavior in 8 years -- they blocked my view - enough! Then the vet leaves and the tech suggests I drug my cat and do I want a prescription!! I couldn't get out of there fast enough - I agree they really push extra services, products, etc -- I should drug my cat because they mishandled him -- too many good vets, find one of them and absolutely avoid this place!! My pets have been patients at Shawsheen Animal hospital since 2005. One of my dogs has had some surgeries here, one was a jaw surgery for a very invasive tumor. Some had been referred to specialists, but some have been taken care of there. Everyone that works there is very nice. I have to say my favorite Vet there is Dr LeBlanc. Mainly because he lets my dog slobber all over him. And I trust him 100% I only wish they were open a little longer or on Sundays. Read Less

Great experience here. They were not at all pushy with vaccines like the previous posts say. They made sure to mention them all and inform us but said right away it wasn't necessary to do today. Terribly disappointed! Their main focus is on up-selling and they are quite rude when you don't bite. Every pet owner does what he feels is best for his pet - and most must consider a budget. If I used any brand other than what they were selling, they would shame me about it. I just don't understand it; three pets - all up to date on vaccines, all spayed/neutered, all on flea/tick control, all had dental care and grooming...but that's not *enough* from their point of view? I did the best I could for the 3 pets I adopted, and none of them ever went without care (or love!) If their hearts were in the right place, they might give you a pat on the back for keeping unwanted animals from being euthanized - or on the street. But that's just not who they are...they are only about one thing: $$$Shawsheen's doctors are highly motivated by money, and when your pocketbook doesn't open as wide as they'd like, they become less gracious with each visit. Also, when they make mistakes, they are not offering any apologies (pretty arrogant). They did their best to UP-SELL, and I really felt it! Shop around - there are better practices out there. So happy I took my kitty to Shawsheen Animal Hospital. Great staff, very friendly and doctor was great at explaining treatment and actually treating my cat. I was taking him to Bandfield at Petsmart and they were not good at all. Took our very sick dog there. Was told by 2 other vets to put her to sleep or have $8000 surgery. Dr. LaBlanc is wonderful very honest and compasionate! So glad we found them! ****Shawsheen Animal Hospital blocked me from their Facebook page and deleted my review because they don't want this getting out there.. I will be sharing this info on all of social media until this doesn't happen to anyone else! If I could give them 0 stars I absolutely would. This past weekend my SIX month old german shepherd PUPPY was showing signs of an infection i.e puss drainage and desperately needed antibiotics. I have been going here with my puppy since he was 3 months old. When I called this Saturday for an emergency appointment they proceeded to tell me that he could not be seen but for a fee of $150 they could fit him in. ????? Ok so no appointment but if I pay you $150 you'll be able to open up a spot for me!? Absolutely disgusting and corrupt. I would NOT ever take any of your animals to a place that is willing to take your money like that when they know you're desperate. Despicable establishment. Surprisingly disappointing experience after attempting to make a switch to SAH. Staff were friendly and accommodating with making a same day appointment and obtaining records from my dogs former vet in preparation for my visit, but that's where it ended. I arrived 10 minutes early as requested to complete paperwork. I was called into a room shortly after and approached by...A tech? The doctor? No introduction, asked many questions, typed more than talked to me, and replied a little too quickly with no eye contact, "ya...ya...yup." A little rough with my dog who cried from her ministrations to get a sample from her ear. Proceeded to quote me costs that were considerably higher than my former vet. Left the room to "get the doctor", (so I guess she was a tech after all) and that's when I waited...20, 25, 30...31...32 minutes. That's it. Went to the desk and said I'm leaving. Never in the 8 years of pet ownership have I waited that long. I reentered the "empty" waiting room and offered to pay for the ear sample taken, but nothing else. The office manager offered an apology, which wasn't her fault. Offered a complimentary physical at a later date and said they were running behind. I turned and looked at the empty waiting room, which she then noticed, and made a different excuse for the doctors absence. They pardoned my visit without a charge at that point which was kind. The only credit I can give this establishment is for its cleanliness and friendly service by the receptionists and business manager. Shame on the Vet...they lost my business of 3 dogs and any referrals made to friends and family. Sorry but I cannot recommend this establishment. Read Less

This place is horrible. They misdiagnosed my dog who's been very sick for a couple of days. Not knowing what was wrong we brought her here and they ran some tests, did x-rays but did not check for Lyme disease which we were all worried about and also asked them if they think it was Lyme. They apparently didn't think it was but little did they know, they were wrong. After her coming home last night, we waited out until this morning to see if she was at least any better. She became worse in the morning and couldn't walk at all, peed herself, just the look on her face was pain all over for her and for us to see her suffering this bad. We brought her back to the vets today, they ran the Lyme test and still had the nerve to charge an extra 150$ on top of the 700$ we already spent over the wrong medication and to be rushed with the appointment. The doctor did not take time out of his day to care about our dog and her needs for help and to just assume what he thought which was wrong. No apology from anyone from that place after our dog almost passed away from sickness. Shame on you guys!!!!!!! So unprofessional there. I had to make the most difficult decision this weekend, which was to put down our dog. She was 13.  The staff at Shawsheen went over and above to make this experience as smooth as something like this could possibly be.   They myself and the dog right into a room, explained the process and what happens, allowed me as much time as I needed.   The actual process was peaceful - and quick -  and they could not have been more professional and caring.    I can't say enough good things about how we were treated and I thank them immensely for helping me through it. I have taken my dog and rabbit here for a couple years and have had quite a few bad experiences. First, my rabbit was looking really ill. I called and told them what was going on and they said they couldnt fit me in until the afternoon (this was at 9 in the morning). I then called Wignall in Dracut who told me to rush in right away because it sounded like she should be looked at immediately. On my way to Wignall she passed away. I still cant believe Shawsheen was going to make me wait all day for an emergency!Now for my dog, Ive had a few issues with my dog. He had some stomach problems early on that were difficult to diagnose. The vet at Shawsheen kept suggesting test after test after test. I couldnt believe the amount of money! Then with a change to his food, per another vet's suggestion, he was much better.Recently took my dog here for a tooth condition. Vet gave me an estimate for nealry $2,000 worth of work and wanted to take his canines out due to plaque. I got another opinion at Hudons Animal Hospital and for under $800, they were able to remove the tooth issue, save his canines and send him home with nice clean teeth. Im so glad I got another opinion!!Also, I really hate that they only accept cash or credit cards. Ive never heard of a doctor not taking checks. Read Less

They don't care about your pets they only care about your wallet. Please don't take your pet here!! Seriously, if you value your animals comfort and well-being beware of this vet. My family and I were taking my cat Marco here for a few years and they were constantly telling us he was unhealthy and that he needed all of these expensive surgeries and dental corrective services even though he showed no symptoms and no signs of irritation. We took him to another vet for a second opinion after they wrongly prescribed Marco a medication for two weeks that (after doing some research) we found if taken for more than 7 days can be lethal to felines. When confronted about this they were extremely rude and essentially told us it was our problem. Our new vet has said Marco is in perfect health and that going through with any of the dental work they were constantly pressuring us and guilting us to get him would have been extremely painful for Marco and would have decreased his quality of life. I bring my dogs here every year for there annual checkup and routine doggie health care. Dr. Leblanc is very knowledgeable and very attentive towards my dogs needs. I have two German Shepards and one of them is very ADHD. But given that in mind they are able to still provide the care to him and my other female GSD. We have been taking our 9 yo beagle here for the last 4 years and could not be more pleased. Dr. Fagan is attentive during our visits as well as with recommendations and calling a day or two later for follow up. The only small issue is getting our dogs nails clipped. You have to make an appointment, usually a week or 2 out for some reason. Other times we were offered to just come by so it's a bit confusing on the policy. In all honesty, it's not a huge deal because of the care our dog receives is top notch. Highly recommended for any of your furry family members. Read Less

I can't even begin to express my enjoyment for picking this Vetinary hospital for my my now 10week old Boston Terrier puppy! He was extremely sick a few days after bringing him home in early July. I went to a different local veterinary office and was less than satisfied with my experience there, so I looked into another vet for my puppy. The second I walked in the doors at Shawsheen Animal Hospital, I felt extremely welcomed by the staff and everyone was so friendly. The vet tech Cara, has been more than helpful and one of the most genuinely nice people I have ever met, who also has an extreme knowledge for this field! Dr. Mark Fagan, is also absolutely amazing and it's evident he truly cares for the well being of animals and their owners, I appreciate that he is able to understand my concerns and is more than willing to answer any question I may have regarding my puppy. They make me feel comfortable, and are able to explain everything in a positive educated manner. If you're looking for a great wonderful place that will truly care about your pet, go to Shawsheen!! We've been taking our cats and dogs here for the last 14 years. As the animals age, it's 2 checkups annually in order to stay on top of health concerns. In addition, multiple visits for issues like dog paws cut on glass in the woods, ear infections from swamping, cat bites from squabbles, and on and on. That's a LOT of visits, and I can say that not once have I been exposed to attitude or rudeness or guilt trips. These people are CARING and are going to advocate for the best treatment possible, if it's a budget concern, just say so. Options are always presented, wait and see is never scoffed at if it isn't an urgent issue, additional information is made readily available. Staff will go the extra mile in an emergency. Doctor's perform the wrong surgery on my dogg and think its fine and theres nothing wrong with it. We got no apology or anything along the lines of okay how can we make you happy or what can we do for you, nothing was said to that extent.This place is a joke you would think people in the animal profession would actually care about animals well you thought wrong. My family and I have been going here for over 10 years and we are going to finally stop. This place is just a money hungry business That just cares about extracting money from your wallet. I agree with Kira, they suck you in appearing to care, then they hit you with tests and exams your pet doesn't need. If you balk at the cost they get aggravated and attempt to make you feel like a bad pet owner because you can't afford all the tests. I asked for them to write the script for my dogs meds so I could see if it would be cheaper at the pharmacy, they wrote it in my dogs name which meant I couldn't fill it at my pharmacy. You'd think they'd want to keep you satisfied and try to help you, but instead they stick it to you! Not a happy customer!I felt very pressured and bullied to purchase the meds and pet food (in large quantities, when this is just a trial!) . I'm looking for a new animal hospital. Read Less

Shawsheen Animal Hospital has been one of the most amazing experiences I have had for my 2 dogs!  I have tried at least 3 other veterinarians and NONE of them compare!  They have made me feel welcome and I feel like I am part of the Shawsheen family, not just another customer walking through the door.  They listen attentively and give special attention to me and my dogs.  We receive personal attention from every staff member, from the front desk, to the techs, to the doctors. Their prices are more than reasonable and they always give me an estimate of the services prior to any type of medical attention my dogs need. They also introduced me to Trupanion. I had another pet insurance in the past and wasn't happy with it.  Trupanion had a 30 day trial and because I decided to try it, it has saved me THOUSANDS of dollars!  One of my dogs has an ongoing liver issue and he needs medical attention more frequently than a healthy dog.  I HIGHLY recommend Shawsheen Animal Hospital to anyone with pets. They have gone above and beyond for my dog's health care in so many ways! The staff at Shawsheen Animal Hospital are absolutely wonderful! Our cats Tessa, Gabriel, Licorice, and Bella were very well looked after while we lived in Tewksbury. From having the girls come to take care of the cats while we were away, to them lugging cases of cat food to my car because I had my infant to handle, no request was too big or too small. And I always knew the cats were as healthy as possible - always up to date on vaccinations and regular check-ups. I wish we could have packed everyone up and brought them with us when we moved to California - there is no replacing that wonderful group! We miss you! Extremely pushy!  We brought our dog here when we moved to the area, and just like some other reviews have said, they are extremely pushy about vaccines and procedures.  For example, we have a 12 yr old dog that they want to put under to do some dental work, and when we said we didn't feel comfortable putting our 12 yr old dog under, they really gave us the cold shoulder, tried to make us feel bad about it, and quite honestly, treated us like total crap.  They also didn't seem too interested in our opinions and I didn't feel like they were really listening to us.We are absolutely done with Shawsheen Animal Hospital and will never be going back.  McGrath Animal Hospital in Billerica (where our cats go) is absolutely wonderful and has a great caring staff.  I'd highly recommend McGrath over Shawsheen. I originally took my dog here, when she was around 3 months old when we first got her. They were very nice with my young puppy. I recommended my mother in law come here after she found several lumps on her 9 year old dog's body. What happened afterwards completely swayed my opinion about this veterinary practice. Her dog went in to get spayed, and to get cancerous lumps removed- INSTEAD she came out of here she did not have any surgeries done, IN FACT she had a broken jaw because they intubated her wrong/ may have dropped her (mind you she is a small dog). They then told my mother in law to go to Woburn Animal Hospital, who couldn't help her dog. Then, she went to Angel's Memorial who ended up performing surgery on her. The worst part about this situation was that Shawsheen Animal Hospital did not tell the truth about what happened- they told her three separate stories. I would NEVER take my animal back here in good faith. I moved my dog to a different practice. Would you trust a veterinary practice who did not own up to their own mistakes? Read Less

very bad experience my dog was injuired under the care of Shawsheen was left with vet tecs to try to explain what happened the vet took off with out even stablizing my dog and my poor dog needed emergency surgery at Angell Hospital and was there for 3 days and has a long road to recovery! They are the worst vet in Tewksbury. Over priced, tehy could care less, they are all a bout marketing and having your pet go throug useless exams and they try tp pressure you into so many expensive things you pet does not need. There are alot of people who have written great reviews in the beginning of going to this vet, As I have myself, then they change. If you question prices or you ask why you pet needs a scan that he might not need, they have an attitude. They misdiagnose and they don't even give you the best trwatments out there, they are not state of the art like they claim to be. They are super super friendly at first to reel you in. I thought they were the best ever, and boy did I found out the hard way. It wasn't until I asked around that ALOT OF PEOPLE shared the same experience as I. You may love them and they may love you, if you have alot of money to spend and don't care, otherwise if you are on a budget or having tough times, they DONOT WORK WITH YOU.
