I decided to take my dog here for a surgical consultation as a final effort to save him from his very large benign tumor which had started causing him bleeding, discomfort, and loss of appetite. Unfortunately it was too late for him, and we ended up saying goodbye to him at the end of the appointment. I only wish I had brought him here sooner. Within the first ten minutes, we learned more information about his condition than his primary vet had told us in eight months. I have a very good feeling that if we brought him here from the very beginning, he would still be here today. Overall, I highly recommend Blue Pearl for pets dealing with tumors and any type of complicated surgeries. These guys know what they are talking about. As for putting my friend down... it broke my heart, but they did a good job of explaining the process and making sure everything was comfortable for me. My cat was seen this past weekend and all I can say is how disgusting this place is and it needs to be shut down! This place will play off your emotions and your wallet! They take advantage of you when you're going through a tough situation and it's vile! My cat was seen because she might have eaten something she shouldn't of and they charged me almost $2000 and still wanted to put her through more bloodwork even though her results were normal! When I told the vet 'no' I was given snarky attitude and I left! I also spoke with other pet owners and they told me I was crazy for paying such an extreme amount for such a small problem! A few issues also arise while I was there: 1)they took my cat to their back area and wouldn't allow me to go with her when I am the pet owner and can calm her! I have never seen such a place that does that! How do I know you are actually doing what you're suppose to be doing and not hurting my pet or not performing things that you should be! 2)no one knows the correct amount for anything! I called the day after my cat was released to see how much bloodwork was and I was given $30-60, maybe $55, maybe $100 by the receptionist and by the vets! You don't know how much things cost in a place you work for! I think it might be a good idea NOT to handle people's payments and billing! 3) no one goes over the bill and explains why they're performing and gives the details of the bill because when I looked at mine there were numerous amounts for things that were already on the bill. One charge was written twice! 4) I was told to pick my cat up around 2-3, I had to wait in the lobby for over 45 minutes when there was hardly no one there!! It's ridiculous!! Again, please avoid this place!! Read Less

This is our second time at blue pearl and we have had amazing experiences both times. Very good vets and staff. In our most recent visit, our dog had a foreign body removed from her nose and it was done extremely quickly. The procedure was so minor that it did not require further consultation from the vet and they were kind enough not to charge us for the visit. Trust me, humans don't get this type of service in this messed up healthcare system. Only minor feedback I would give the staff is that it can be stressful for pet owners when wait times are very long and more severe emergencies are prioritized over your pets'. Read Less

This review is primary based on a second bad experience at BluePearl, the first being minor by comparison. After my sweet girl had major abdominal surgery, my vet recommended that she be brought to BluePearl for overnight observation. Even though her surgery was successful with no complications she was a bit slow in her recovery. My vet contacted BP and gave them the full rundown as well as sending over all her records. It was a pretty straightforward case of monitoring her recovery through the night and administering any medications needed. After checking in we were called into an exam room by  a Dr. Zallas.Let me just say that Alexis Zallas has no business being a veterinarian. She is rude, completely lacking in compassion and is more concerned with profits and meeting quotas than she is for the wellbeing of her patients and their owners. Very disappointing on top of an already very stressful situation. I've learned my lesson the hard way. Should the need arise again it's Angel Memorial for this family. If you love your pet STAY AWAY from BluePearl. Read Less

My boyfriend and i cannot say enough good things about Blue Pearl. A few weeks ago our puppy was admitted with severe pneumonia. He was treated by Dr. Murphy and Dr. DePaula during his two overnight stays. When he was first brought in, they saw him almost immediately. Dr. Murphy is very knowledgeable and suggested x-rays which saved our puppy's life. They gave us a lower and upper estimate on how much treatment would cost so we were able to make an informed decision to admit our puppy for hospital stay. His treatment was thorough and the vets and nurses were all very attentive, compassionate, and friendly. They called every day with updates and gave detailed discharge instructions. A week later, we had him xrayed again at our primary vet and they sent the results to Blue Pearl for them to examine. Even after this, they called us again to ask us how we were doing and to let us know his lungs looked back to normal. To add to all of their efforts to reach out to us, they have also responded promptly every single time we have called them with our unending questions. Dr. DePaula even took the time to speak to me herself on the phone, which was something i have never experienced at any vet or doctor's office. Today we went back to Blue Pearl again because our puppy was occasionally coughing and clearing his throat and we were concerned about whether or not it was a recurrence of the pneumonia or something new. Once again he was brought to a treatment room almost instantly. The nurse who originally brought him out saw him and remembered him and she took his vitals and relayed our concerns to Dr. Murphy. They gave us several options: at home monitoring, do a re check exam, or take some more x rays. We were really hesitant to spend hundreds of dollars on more x rays since our puppy had been active and happy and energetic for weeks now but we opted to do a re check exam just in case. Dr. Murphy came in and checked him and after listening to his lungs said that he sounded totally normal. He explained that pneumonia has been abnormally prevalent lately in the area and there was something going around, but that this did not seem like kennel cough (which is more of a dry honk) and that it likely was just irritation from recovery. He advised us to continue with the current antibiotic course our vet prescribed us and to monitor the throat clearing and coughing and that he thought it would be unnecessary to do x rays based on all the evidence. We felt immensely better after seeing him (we had been stressed and worried all week) and the best part is Blue Pearl did not charge us for the exam although we were prepared to pay the fee. Truly compassionate and understanding professionals and this has cemented our decision that Blue Pearl will now always be the go-to for any emergencies we might have in the future. Thank you to all the Blue Pearl staff for all the help, we couldn't be more grateful. Read Less

I have been visiting Blue Pearl for several years now, first with my beloved pup, who passed in 2017, and now with my foster cat (a big Siamese mix), who my roommate and I are long-term babysitting for his mama while she gets her PhD overseas. When we took our boy in, none of us had any idea that he has a genetic predisposition to form crystals in his urine, which can cause blockages in boy cats' urethrae. The first time we noticed this issue, he was straining to pee and was clearly very uncomfortable. I immediately thought to call Blue Pearl, since I had had such good experiences with them when I took my pup in, and I knew they would be open even at the late hour we noticed the issue. They took us in right away, and immediately took him in to unblock him. They saved his life. Our little kitty boy has had several return visits since then, because despite our team's best efforts (putting him on special urinary diet food, instructing us on how best to make sure he's getting enough water, etc) his problem persisted. Everything came to a head a couple of weeks ago when he got blocked up for the third time. We took him back to Blue Pearl, and pretty much immediately got matched with the wonderful Dr. McGowan, who would become our saving grace throughout the next few days. Dr. McGowan and the rest of the team at Blue Pearl took amazing care of our boy, and when it came down to brass tacks and we realized that surgery was our only option if we wanted to stop this problem from consistently recurring, Dr. McGowan made sure she kept in constant contact with us, going through her whole thought process every step of the way and explaining exactly why she decided to follow through with the courses of action she chose. She took time to listen to our concerns and made great strides to save us as much money on our bill as she could while still making sure that our kitty received the best care possible. After we took our boy home, we ran into some small complications with his litter box schedule and his willingness to go, and we ended up taking him in several more times for bladder checks. The checks were free, and we became such frequent flyers that the whole secretarial staff now knows us by face and jokes with us every time we come in. It's such a friendly atmosphere, and I feel completely comfortable calling them whenever I have the slightest worry that something might be up.We're going back today for his recheck with his wonderful surgeon (after which we can hopefully take off the cone of shame), and I'm almost looking forward to going back and seeing everyone's friendly faces.I can say with confidence that every member of the Blue Pearl team cares deeply for their patients, and the patients' owners. They are such a compassionate group, and if they offered healthy pet checkups I would make them our primary vet in a heartbeat. I can recommend them with absolute confidence - no matter your issue, your beloved pet will be in extremely good hands. Read Less

Great place to go for an emergency. The staff was helpful, kind and efficient. We waited a bit to be seen but there were several animals there. The vet gave suggestions about what they could do there and what she suggested would be good follow up with the regular vet. For an ER visit, small treatment and meds, the amount was very reasonable (without pet insurance). If you need to take your pet somewhere, I would recommend this place. Read Less

My dad went to the hospital originally the day prior (6/5) and he waited 3 hours to then be told once an agreement has been made that she not only can't get the surgery tonight because the endoscopy person left an hour ago but that she has food in her stomach so she needs to have surgery the next day. It was explicitly stated that surgery will happy during that visit. That next morning, I was left in the waiting room for 3 hours during my pet's scheduled surgery before I went up to the desk to ask for an update. Then the nurse came out and told me that they haven't even started yet and it will take all day so I should head out and come back. I head to my car and I get a knock on my window to come back inside because they lost my signed paperwork and forgot to ask me for the payment. I do those things and then call 3 hours later for an update and the receptionist said the doctor will call me shortly. 1.5 hours later the doctor calls me and tell me the surgery went well and that she won't need any medication to recover. I go to pick her up a while later and the nurse comes out and says that I need to give her two medications at a different schedule (contradicting the doctor). I'm very happy that the surgery went well but very dissatisfied with the experience overall as you could probably tell! Read Less

They took Marvel in back to take care of the toenail, bandages her up and returned her to me with instructions on how to care for her and a prescription for a pain medication and antibiotic so she didn't develop an infection. She returned with an update after a short wait.  The doctor came out and gave my roommate over the phone and myself a more extensive update including our options.  The choice was made to humanely euthanize Bailey. They have a quiet, peaceful space to reflect and spend some final moments with your pet. The care and compassion that everyone exhibited was beyond what i expected. There were additional options for cremation and urns. They provide both routine and emergency vet care. They obviously did it when they weighed her legs down to remove her uterus, a standard practice that is used. They lied and said they had nothing to do with it. I give them 3 stars because I do think the service was good. The doctors and staff were knowledgeable and friendly. Facility was clean. And ultimately (most important of all) they took care of our dog. The downside: Price. This was an incredibly expensive visit. Almost $800! Here are the details: Our dog is diabetic and he was acting in a way we'd never seen before (having seizures). We are new to the area and didn't know where else to go. And quite frankly not having time (dog having seizures) we went with the first thing that came up. Turns out it was extremely low blood sugar. Essentially, they put him on an IV and said they should monitor him overnight. This made sense. After all, what if it wasn't diabetic related? What if the blood sugar was coincidence? And for this, they charged us nearly $800. The only offer to help was a get a line of credit - which we can't do, due to trying to buy a house. So, now that I've had time - I called our old vet in Nebraska. After describing the entire incident to them - they said it might cost about $200-$300 for a hospitalization. While I get that there are price differences between states (believe me, I know, we are trying to buy a house in MA!), this was just ridiculous. Think about it. Dog was on an IV and basically sat in a cage all night. Sure, they probably kept an eye on him and took him out and maybe fed him. They also checked his blood sugar a couple times. But - is that really worth nearly $800? I think not. We've had more complicated hospital bills for a human that cost less. Needless to say, we will be looking into insurance for our doggie, but due to the move, haven't had time. Recommendation: If you have time - get prices and go someplace else that won't charge and arm and a leg. If you do go here, be prepared to pay through the nose. We will not be going back here due to this. They got our money once, but it won't happen again. Read Less

We took our very distressed 15 year-old cat, Emily, to VESCONE after an emergency visit to our regular vet resulted in a very dire prognosis, and we did not feel comfortable having her at home all night long without 24-hour care. The clinic is literally 5 minutes from our house, which is very convenient. We were immediately greeted by the receptionist, and a few minutes later, a nurse, who asked us a few questions about Emily's symptoms and then took her in for care. We sat in the waiting room for (maybe) 20 minutes, while the clinicians evaluated her. After the short wait, we were brought into a room where the night doctor, (sorry--I cannot remember her name), gave us a full update on Emily and remained available as long as we needed to answer our questions, (and we had a lot of them). She was upbeat, hopeful, yet honest, which was welcoming after our vet went as far as to recommend putting her down that night--(with all due respect to our vet--he was just advising based on his observations at the time, which showed my cat in severe distress, most likely from my emotional state, driving in the car, and her not being able to walk at the time). Basically, VESCONE has a system that works like a well-oiled machine. Before we left, we knew a range of what we were expected to pay. We were given our first update at 11:30pm that night, which made sleeping a little easier. Two more updates proceeded the following morning and afternoon. We were welcome to visit at any time, and just needed to call ahead of time if we were visiting outside of the designated visiting hours. All the techs, nurses and doctors seemed genuinely compassionate and knowledgeable of their medicine. If I had questions, I knew I could call and speak with either a nurse or a doctor for an update at any time. And now, 3 days after Emily's visit, I know I can call anytime if I still have questions. After reading several of the other reviews, I realize that there is a big financial concern with taking your pet to VESCONE, and understandably so. Yes, it is not cheap to go here, but I felt they were in the range of what we would spend for taking our cat into the care of a 24-hour emergency clinic. The peace of mind we received knowing that she would be cared for by medical professionals is priceless, in my opinion. We could have taken her to Angell Memorial, and maybe saved two or three hundred dollars, but the stress of driving there on Emily was not a risk we were willing to take. In addition, we had a nice surprise when we went to pay our balance, when we were told that we had a credit of over $300. Read Less

Read Less
