I've been coming to Yelp to facilitate decisions on where to do business. I'm not using this vet but have been forced into a situation that's led me to deal with them. I'm noticing pretty poor reviews & honestly I don't feel surprised. I have stumbled into a quagmire of poor communication, varied expectations & quite frankly what feels like profit over benefit for the pet involved. I use Tender Heart vet myself & they've been great to work with. None of this Prima Donna vet business - unbelievable that the vet doesn't come out to meet folks. Welcome to Oz. The owner is an Animal Control Officer in the area that brings animals to this facility. So onto my story, my dog which I recently acquired from his beloved owner who was unable to keep him due to a significant change in her life situation. I'd had him about 2 weeks when I left him in an enclosed pet pen IN my garage. It was approx 42" tall & the dog hadn't attempted to escape it prior, but we had a significant thunderstorm that night & my son had left a garage door open, yet he remained secured in this gated pen. Anyway, he got out & was subsequently picked up by Animal Control. I'd been in Boston that afternoon for medical appointments. I got word from my son that he'd been out looking for the little guy. When I arrived home, we looked again & I placed a call to AC to see if he'd been picked up. I emphasized that this dog had diabetes, is on insulin & thyroid meds. I didn't know where they took the animals & didn't learn where until Sunday, when I called there was no answer. I received a call Monday admonishing me for thinking they could provide that kind of medical care - I called back explaining that I'd like to pick him up & resume providing his care. Instead, I was told they needed to confirm whether rabies vaccine was up to date & directed to bring his meds in, which I did. Animal Control had conveyed to me that he was under the auspices of their control for the first week then he was under the auspices of this animal hospital. I explained that I'm out of work, awaiting my first SSDI payment in over 2 weeks. I offered to pay something but then I'd be willing to make payments. At this point I owed about $150. I'd emailed the owner aka animal control officer, offering this & wasn't even offered the courtesy of a response. It's now been an additional 2 weeks, lots of banter & the bill now is approximately $600 - their newest offer is come in & pay $300 & sign over this dog to them, oh & btw purchase his insulin & bring it in so we aren't using ours. Hmmmmm. Seriously. More unnerving is the times I've been approached to see if the previous owner would consent to euthanasia. And I'm supposed to sign him over. I think not. I believe they need to be licensed to adopt out animals, which they don't have & they've already stated to me that with his illnesses he isn't particularly an adoptable option. This fact, coupled with the fact that euthanasia was brought up to me doesn't leave me all to eager to sign him over. Bottom line I've been telling them that I'm the owner now, I'm willing to care for him & the other dog he was raised with over the last 7 years. A lack of communication, misinformation - people who really don't seen to know what they're doing have led to a long & drawn out stay which continues to add fees as I type. This dog is being held hostage to the almighty dollar. So needless to say, you would do well to avoid this place. Read Less
