My parents always took their pets here & I now bring my own here. They are great & the staff is fantastic. They MAY BE a little more expensive then other places but You Get What You Pay For!! They killed my beautiful cat after I made the mistake of bringing him there for a non-invasive first exam. I don't think they did it on purpose and they seemed genuinely sad about the loss. I am sure on most levels they would be considered a good veterinary clinic. But in only a few minutes they somehow mishandled my fairly healthy 12 year old cat to such an egregious level that he died before I could pay the bill. If you care for your pets, especially middle aged and older pets, don't go here. Don't let them fool you with the furniture or equipment or the professional tone. Someone killed my cat, either due to negligence, incompetence or callous disregard. Read Less

DO NOT TAKE YOUR ANIMALS HERE. My kitten was neutered here and I had to take him back due to an infection (abscess) on his stomach which appeared 7 days after the neuter (suspicious right). They denied their involvement. Gave us medicine to spray onto the open wound but neglected to tell us that we needed to spray this medicine inside the open wound, neglected to tell us that we needed to use fake litter, AND they gave us pain pills (once daily for 3 days) that only contained one pill (we had to go back and tell them they forgot the other two pills). Then they had the audacity to say that my kitten needed surgery because the infection became worse and the wound wasn't healing (but it's not their fault, they blamed the incorrect instructions on their new intern). I called and asked to speak to the owner and I did have an attitude but I was very professional about it (just with a tone) and she blatantly stated that she didn't appreciate my attitude when she could have stated that she understands my concern and at least apologize for her clinics negligence towards my kitten. Needless to say, I took my kitten to Ann Arbor to my old vet who has been trying to get ahold of South pointe to get details on the antibiotics they have given my kitten (but they haven't replied back during their hours of operation). Save yourself the headache and go elsewhere, especially if you value the health of your pet. Read Less

We had been taking our 6 year papillion to Southpointe so when we got a new pappillon puppy last weekend we decided he would also go there. Unfortunately our puppy immediately got sick so we rushed him in. The vet (young looking woman, Dr. Butler I in think was her name) just said I have no idea what could be wrong and every time I asked her a question she said I don't know I'd have to look it up. It's important to note that our puppy had a cough also when she saw him and she didn't even notice the cough. Altho she literally did nothing (she did check his blood sugar and only because my husband insisted she did a parvo test) they charged us over a hundred dollars! The next day our puppy was even worse, he couldn't even stand. Me being a nurse I knew his sugar was low (being sick and not eating and he only weighs 1 pound) so I gave him some Karo syrup and got his sugar up and immediately took him to another vet. The first thing the new vet noticed was the cough. The new vet said our puppy had an upper respiratory infection but as a precaution she took x-rays to rule out pneumonia. She placed our puppy on antibiotics and he is doing great! They even call daily to check on him, Southpointe didnt check on him once. If I would have continued going back to Southpointe I'm sure my puppy would not still be here. I will NEVER go back there and both my dogs will now see another vet in Allen Park... they may be fine for immunizations but beware if your dog gets sick they won't have a clue....Read Less

After the last few experiences I had at Southpointe, I would never ever consider taking my pets anywhere else. Dr. Christina Butler showed the utmost compassion and understanding when my kitty Neo required a major surgery of his ear. She laid out all the possible treatment plans, worked with my budget and made sure I was informed and left with no questions unanswered. The vet tech (I cannot remember her name!) called me the day after to check up on him, and made sure I wasn't having issues giving him his medication. Firstly, I rarely write reviews. However this one is totally justified. My experience was excellent. Warmly greeted, courteously processed all paperwork. Dr Christina Butler was the epitome of professionalism. She handled JoJo with the utmost respect, explained in sufficient detail what she was doing and what diagnosis procedures should be conducted. After diagnosing JoJo she laid out the treatment options she recommended. I have not worked with a Doctor who gave either myself or my companion a sense of ease and confidence in the diagnosis and treatment options. Of course I will recommend Southpointe, without doubt!! We've made the switch.  And now I'm much happier.  I want to be fair here because I know they have a number of doctors and employees.  This isn't the same as eating as some restaurant.  This is about the care taking of our pets. The people are kind and professional.  That said...The problem is in the details...This may sound simplistic but the examples get worse.  Our cat was born in 2000.  Two years ago she stopped jumping on our countertop in the kitchen for her typical begging ritual for dinner.  I took her in to get checked out.  The doctor was very nice and expressed a lot of empathy and basically insinuated that we ought to make the time left as special as possible.  Bullcrap.  The cat's fine.  OK.  Yea.  She's getting older but YOU tell me she's on her way to check out when she's screaming her meows at 6AM at my bedroom door so she can get her morning treat.  Bottom line:  Just tell me the cat is normal and fine.  We found out the first time our dog was allergic to the annual vaccine when he was having trouble breathing after his appointment and he layed down and looked like he was going to die.  Fortunately, the vet warned us to keep our eyes peeled so back he went.  They got some Benedry into him and watched him over night.  A couple years later, they gave him the exact same medicine after (1) I explained that he was allergic to one of the vaccines, (2) we later found it noted in his chart, and (3) they told me they gave him something different and everyone later agreed that they gave him the wrong stuff.30 minutes later... I'm rushing our once PERFECTLY HEALTHY little dog to the emergency room for a $300 monitoring.  With some Benedryl and hydration, he was back to normal the next day.  Folks, I'm lucky.  I get it.  My dogs and cats have never had any major issues.  But the last thing I ever expected was to have my vet nearly kill the dog twice and tell me my cat's knocking on heaven's door.  Give me a break.  I left a really pissed off message on the doctors voicemail and they followed up with me to see if he was OK.  (Probably noted on his chart that his "dad's" a fruitcake too.  Who knows?)A year later....   Well, damn, this past January we get home from vacation and the dog, who was babysat by a relative, is laying around and not running in the yard.  I take a look at him and touch his hips and he let out a little cry.  What's wrong?  So the next morning I take him to the vet to get checked out.  (I get really irritated thinking about this one.)  So the vet examines him.  I'm then lectured on how he may be developing...wait for it...arthritis!  WHAT?  He's six.  I look at the vet and ask her how much for an x-ray.  I think it was $90.  I told her I want to see THIS arthritis.  She tells me that they can do the x-ray, but the arthritis may be so fine and minute at this point that it won't clearly show.  I tell her to take the x-ray and I'll bring him back in a year and we'll do it again so we can compare.  (I'm not a doctor but those reading this ... google and search images for "arthritis" and you'll SEE arthritis. Check it out.)We have a new vet.  The cat and the dog are very much alive and they are, from what I can see, perfectly healthy and tolerant of each other.  Finding a great vet is not easy.  You have to find someone you trust.  Otherwise, you end up with what I call the "Chinese menu" vet.  This is the vet office that looks at your animal and shows a book of prices of labs and treatments and asks you what you want to do.  I want suggestions.  I want expertise.  I don't care about the free cup of coffee. You've been warned.PS:  They get an extra star for a total of two because they did send a vet to our house to put our last cat to sleep many years ago.  For that, I'm grateful. This place is alright, though I have mixed emotions when it comes to the vets here.Dr. Cox is fantastic. I've been in with my Boston Terrier and also with my Jack Russel on multiple occasions. I have encountered another vet here, though I don't remember her name.. But you could tell she was more interested in getting all the money she could out of me (which is pretty easy since I'd give up my life savings to keep my dogs happy and healthy lol) rather than just caring for my dog.  She was very pushy, and the technician that day was just as bad. Who knows, maybe they have quotas?Either way, they're a decent place. I feel like they're a bit over priced, however I only have a few other vet offices to compare them to in that regard. One big win in my book is that it is very clean and other than the two particular pushy sales-vet people, everyone else here is very friendly and knowledgeable. It's a good place, just..

Now my kitty is doing better and I cannot thank this kind and knowledgeable staff enough. 10/10! Read Less
