Last year my cat had some sort of infection and I couldn't get him to eat. After trying and failing for way too long, he started going into liver failure and had developed jaundice; I noticed this late at night and knowing this was a critical thing, took him to Blue Pearl. The receptionist and techs were immediately understanding and caring as I was pretty visibly upset; the vet on duty came in and explained treatment options to me and gave me some ballpark estimates of how much each would cost and their general effectiveness. I knew it wouldn't be cheap because, hey, it's emergency. While they don't offer their own payment plans for it, they did explain that they take Care Credit and that was much more manageable for my finances because this wound up being about $1200 in the end (and Care Credit can be used by people, too, so it's not an entirely terrible thing to have). If something happens to my cat again, I'm definitely returning. Read Less

They explained everything to me, my options, prices, and took very good care of my cat in his last moments. They made it very comfortable for the both of us. Don’t take any lost dogs here!!! We ran out of options to find the owner so we decided to stop in here and see if they could scan him for a chip. A wonderful person named Oliver helped us right away. Scanned him and found a chip and Oliver was new so someone else gave him direction on who to call (I believe it was the doctor helping Oliver). So we’re waiting patiently for Oliver to get the contact information and while we’re standing there some girl comes around front from the back and says “oh did you find that dog” we said yeah, walking around packard street but he has a chip”. She rudely then says “oh no.. we keep found dogs regardless of what you want” she goes into the cabinet and pulls out a form, slaps it down in front of us and says “you need to fill this out and we will be taking it from here, you don’t get to leave with him”. The tone in her voice was so demeaning like we were complete idiots who were less than her. I immediately got upset and went right back at her with even more attitude than she was dishing. I let her know that if they have a policy for lost dogs, that’s great and she could have calmly explained that to us. She responded with “well Oliver is new so I’m helping him out and I have another emergency I’m dealing with. I proceeded to chew her out letting her know that Oliver had the situation under control and if you had some other emergency going on that’s where you focus should be. She then refused to look at me and Just went about her business on the computer. I threw her form back at her and I let Oliver finish the great work he was doing. There was a zero percent change I was leaving this dog there now, not with some hot head walking around going off on everyone. My thing is there was no reason for her to assert herself in the problem and then to do it, and be a complete you know what, was just uncalled for. If that’s how she treats humans trying to do the right thing, the last thing I want is someone like her taking care of my sick dog. Also, the doctor that was helping Oliver in the beginning said NOTHING about a form or this process they apparently have. Her name was Stephanie and if she was just having a bad day, next time don’t take it out on people just trying to do the right thing. PS - Oliver is wonderful and I appreciate all the help we received in returning this dog to the owner. Thanks Oliver!!! In response to the practice manager - Yes, I understand there was a critical patient while I was there. Don’t you think that’s where Stephanie’s focus should have been? Read Less

Yes, you will most likely spend quite a bit, but they will do everything possible to save your let's life. I took my pet to 2 other vet's, 1 tried to say he was ok to go home, and when we arrived at Blue Pearl he was unresponsive. They rushed out, immediately checked him, and ran him back on a gurney. I couldn't help but blurt out,"Oh my God someone actually cares!" Because we had been blown off by other vets when we knew he wasn't ok. You will get people who actually care and will do everything in their power to help. They were able to catch a rare disease, but even if my pet hadn't made it, they were amazing and actually listened to us. I will be eternally grateful for the compassion that was shown to us, as well as the love and respect they showed my dog. We have a small 6lb Pomeranian who suddenly started acting strangely, falling down and twitching on new years day at 11pm at night. We immediately rushed her to Blue Perl. When we first arrived they rushed her into triage, and we weren't sure if she was chocking or dying of a stroke. The Dr. Immediately recognized that she had ingested something toxic and ran some test, and within 20 minutes determined that she had actually ingested some of my prescription medication that had fallen onto the floor. Within 30 minutes of walking in the door, they had our little dog diagnosed, and were beginning treatment, which included pumping her stomach full of activated charcoal (to absorb the toxins), and giving her I.V. fluids and medication. They had us out the door after less than an hour after the diagnosis. And our dog is now at home recovering, and immediately showing signs of improvement. Also, the prices were reasonable, especially considering the level of care and attention. Read Less

I took my dog in thinking that he was just lethargic and didn't want to eat. Long story short, he was suffering from serious maladies that ultimately required us to humanly euthanize him that night. As awful and unexpected of an experience as it was, I am thankful for the care we received at BluePearl Ann Arbor. The staff was attentive to my initial concerns and upon examination the vet tech explained her findings and any concerns she had. When he began to worsen while waiting for the vet to do an exam, the vet tech was observant and took him back immediately for an x-ray for fear that it was a situation in immediate need of lifesaving attention. Sadly the x-ray exposed serious issues that had progressed to a critical point. The Dr. came in and calmly began to explain her findings. When I realized the severity of the situation I began to cry but the Dr. responded in the most empathetic and professional manner I could hope for. I also mentioned that my significant other was not there. She stated that we could call him on speaker and she would explain to him as well. She explained the situation and then stepped out to allow us to converse in private. He rushed to the office to join me and after painful deliberation and our dog's worsening condition we made one of the hardest decisions, to humanly euthanize him at that time. However, during the entirety of this situation the staff was caring and respectful, the vet provided all options and their potential benefits as well as risk, and everyone allowed us time and consideration. I feel that we were provided all the information necessary in a respectful and professional manner. In addition, we were given a plaster mold of his footprint and received a personalized card in the mail a few weeks later. Read Less

In October of 2015 my dog got hit by a car which fractured his pelvis in several spots and dislocated his hip. Since my normal vet doesn't perform these kinds of surgeries, I was referred to blue pearl. The surgeon gave me 2 options, pop his hip back in place or put the hip back in place and hold it in place with a pin. If they would have popped it back in place, there was a good chance that any sudden movements would cause it to pop back out. We chose to have the pin put in to save money in the long run. Before the surgery was done, he explained that my dog would develop arthritis within 4 years after the surgery and this was the only risk factor that he explained. He also said that the pin would keep the hip in place and we wouldn't have any issues other than the arthritis that he would eventually develop. Here we are a year and a half later and my dog has stopped using his leg. At first I assumed it was arthritis... I was wrong. My dogs blood supply to that part of his body was damaged and his femural head is dead and the pin that was put in to keep the hip in place has formed an infection around it. After doing further research, I have discovered that this is actually common in dogs that have suffered severe trauma to their hips. The surgeon should have explained all of this to us but he failed to do so. My dog now has to have a FHO. I am furious about the fact that I paid $5000 to have a surgery done that didnt even last 2 years and that I wasnt informed about the fact that his femural head could eventually die. Now I have to pay another $3500-$6000 on a different surgery when a FHO should have been done in the first place and this all could have been avoided. Maybe I should have done some research in the beginning but it was an emergency situation and we didn't have much time to make a decision. We aren't professionals when it comes to veterinary care so of course we took the surgeons word for it. My advice to everyone is to do your research and always read reviews!! As you can see, blue pearl doesn't have the greatest reviews. Read Less

I should have gone to the emergency vet I normally would have... I should have not take the humane Society referral to this crap box of a place... instead I bring her here and the first thing out of this lady's mouth is "are you the one who called about euthanasia?" Like no! Wth?! Nothing like, "what's going on with your pet?" Or "what brings this little one in?" .... no, nothing of the sorts which had me peeved from the get. I started filling out paperwork the kid asked me to and as I got half way through he pulled me into a room, proceeded to get within inches of me, I moved he got closer and by this time.I'm in a corner, and explain a STAT form... I'm well aware of what one is. I told him verbatim, "if she goes into cardiac arrest do not recessatate... if she calms down enough to stabilizes then of course yes do whatever needs to be done to find out what's wrong with her... he went on to explain the STAT form AGAIN... I reiterated 3 times with this kid as he asked over and over for a verbal yes or no on a DNR. I asked for someone else Bc clearly the answer I gave him was not clear... next girl... 2 times I repeated it to her as well, she finally got up and said "OK well I'll got get the vet to see if they can gain clarity". Are you kidding me?! Then the vet comes in and says I realize your frustrated but ... goes into yet again a discussion about what the STAT form was... I told her the same thing... she proceeded to tell me, "well you refused to sign the form so I can't do anything for her u til it's signed and you're pulling me away from doing what I need to do to get to the bottom of things"... SERIOUSLY?! I told her, "I WAS NEVER ASKED TO SIGN A FORM! I WAS ASKED OVER AND OVER FOR A VERBAL CONFIRMATION THAT I GAVE AND YOU WILL BE THE 7TH CONFIRMATION! I WAS NEVER EVEN ASKED TO SIGN ANYTHING!" She responds "I can tell you're frustrated I can just give you your cat back and you can go somewhere else!" I told her, "lady! Clearly you need adults working here Bc the children you had come talk to me about the STAT form repeating the same stuff asked for a VERBAL confirmation! You're the first person to ask me to sign anything!" By now I've signed and I even stated I should have gone to the other emergency vet Bc I have a 7 year old that I don't have as many issues repeating myself to. She goes into the other room and says loud enough for me to hear, "give her her d*** cat back!" Mind you if you have cats or have had, they start to distress a lot and can put themselves into cardiac arrest... well guess what, as I walk outside with my LC that is exactly what happens as I tell them they are disgusting and this place sucks... I sit on the bench and mind my own business trying to get a grip on a beloved friend who has sent herself into a cardiac arrest and I take every uncontrollable body banging, thrashing and biting she gave me as she died in my arms... I sat on that bench and balled my eyes out waiting for my husband to come back after grabbing our kid from the neighbors... I never went back in, never talked to anyone... went to the produce place next door to bum a lighter and this place did the unthinkable... they had called the police ON ME! Not for being a nuisance, not for coming back in disturbing anyone... I was next door when the cops showed up... the officer kindly gave his condolences and said I wasn't in any trouble... I apologized that he had been called out for someone who never even went back in! I didn't do anything other than tell them they sucked and were a disgusting place and should be ashamed of themselves... he said he was appalled and sorry I had such a horrific experience on my first time EVER here... he said he'd talk to them after... wonder if a misuse of police force is the reason? I didn't cause any scene, I didn't damage anything... and yet my daughter got to see her mommy with police officers holding her pet in a blanket... I didn't tell her right then... only that LC is sleeping... Read Less

I recently made the very hard decision to have my dog humanely euthanized. Her age was catching up to her and she had obvious signs of old age. It's never an easy decision but her quality of life was poor so I put my feelings aside and wanted to do what was right for her. I called my regular vet but unfortunately they did not have any appointments for the day I wanted. They referred me to Blue Pearl so I called and told them I needed to schedule an appointment for my dog to be put to sleep. Expecting a friendly and compassionate response, I was taken aback when the female voice on the other end was very standoff ish and down right rude. I understand they need to know why you are putting your animal to sleep but she made me feel very uncomfortable in my decision and was treating me like I was doing this for the wrong reasons. I was then transferred to another person (without being told why) and they had the same nasty attitude. I was so upset with how I was being treated in such a difficult time, I immediately hung up and decided to call another vet. Which greeted me with sympathy and genuinely cared about me and my dog. I will NEVER be going to BluePearl and I hope they read this review and treat people with compassion next time someone calls to schedule a euthanasia. Read Less

Read Less
