I have been here several times and over many years. I brought my dog to this organization when it was called Michigan Veterinary Specialists. Dr. Alsup saved my dog with an emergency liver lobectomy just days before Christmas. With this is mind, I agreed with my local vet when she recommended going to Blue Pearl when my cat was mysteriously ill. I took my cat to Dr. Edwards and he was diagnosed with toxoplasmosis. Did a followup there and he was slowly getting better but needed more care and followup. I was told that these followups could be done with my local vet so I did (drive 2 mins to my vet or 2 hrs to this place). Then my cat's blood work got worse and he needed a different medicine so Blue Pearl's Dr. Edwards worked with my vet to come up with a new plan of action and medication. When my cat got sick yet again over Christmas, I called my vet and she was out of town for the week. I called Blue Pearl because they were his internal specialists and my cat was an established patient and was astonished by their heartless reply. I was told by Blue Pearl that they didn't want to see him because his new medication had been prescribed by my local vet. This is confusing when both vets worked together and the new medication was prescribed with Dr. Edward's recommendations, so much for teamwork, collaboration, and referrals to specialists. I reiterated to them that my vet was gone, Dr. Edwards was his specialist, and he needed help (needed to see a vet), but again they did not want to see him. I was told to wait one more day and if he wasn't better, then to take him to my local emergency vet. So much for Blue Pearl recommending their own emergency services. I was going to drive there, but I'm thankful that I called first and found out what they really were like. This phone call saved me valuable time and I drove to MSU Veterinary Hospital, where they took great care of him! Even now, I have many questions about Blue Pearl and wonder if they even knew what they were doing in the first place. I would not recommend Blue Pearl to anyone! If your pet is truly your family member, do not go there! I could not believe their lack of patient care or concern. Blue Pearl is part of the Mars Petcare Corp. Mar's mission statement is "Delivering high-quality, compassionate veterinary care for every pet". It also goes on to say that "they are committed to pets and their well being". Well obviously, Blue Pearl of Auburn Hills and Dr. Edwards have never read this! Read Less

I am an registered nurse and after my dog was examined for impaired mobility and nothing found on X-ray or blood work I was told he should be held overnight for further testing to rule out possible pneumothorax and other unknown etiology (a fishing expedition in layman terms). I took my dog home, gave him supplements in his food to improve joint health and gradually he had 100!%! Improvement. The Gabapentin prescription that was prescribed only had a negative effect and II stopped giving it to him after 1 day. I feel that this visit was a complete waste of expensive time—$1300.00. I would not recommend this hospital for veterinary care. Read Less

While waiting in the lobby I read some of the google reviews and almost walked out but am so glad I did not. My review is the opposite of most that I read. I was treated kindly, was seen as promptly as possible and was in no way at all over charged. They took great care of my baby and I left there knowing that they had my best friend at heart. I will go back there for any and all specialty and emergency needs that my pets have. Just goes to show it's best to form your own opinions! Read Less

Our dog ended up having an aggressive cancer, but the staff was extremely helpful and polite. The facility was very clean. One downside is that they are overpriced, but there are a lack of options of 24 hour services within the area. I cannot complain, as my personal veterinarian couldn't see my dog because they were booked. Blue Pearl accepted him right away, and received immediate attention with in minutes. Besides receiving the unfortunate news about our dog, I was very pleased with the service Blue Pearl had to offer and the attentiveness towards our dog. Read Less

They are truly amazing. As a foster parent for a litter of 5 kittens and the mama, I noticed one 10 day old kitty was struggling. After contacting the shelter, I was told to go to this emergency vet on the 4th of July. I called ahead because I wanted them to know the urgency of the condition. They met me at the door and took poor Callie right back. I filled out paperwork as they worked on her, not wasting a single second to try and save her. The staff was warm and loving, treating the kitten with such kindness. They checked out the mama kitty and the other kittens too for any signs of issues. Ultimately, they were not able to save the little one, but did a beautiful tiny pawprint impression and allowed me to come back and see her in "kitty intensive care". I am grateful to the staff and vets there including Josie, Ally, and Dr. Stewart. Read Less

Blue Pearl is a joke and I can't believe the owners can sleep at night after what they do to people who are at a very vulnerable point in life. My daughter took her cat to her vet who had not eaten or drank anything in a few days. The vet couldn't find anything so she took her to B.P. and was given an ultrasound found nothing sent her home. Couple days go by still not eating returns to B.P. where they preformed a blood test administered an IV and tried to put in a feeding tube while she was AWAKE but the cat wouldn't swallow it. Now what makes them think she could swallow a damn tube when she wasn't able to swallow food in now a weeks time is beyond me but aside from that I spoke with two other vets who said they would never administer a feeding tube with the animal awake. So after the few things they did try and "observing" her at the cost of $600 for the first appointment and $2800 today she had to make the heartbreaking decision to have her baby put down as all available funds were used in the two days. Now they say we can visit in a room with her and then they will come in and we may be present with her as she is peacefully put to rest. I will say that yes it did appear she went peacefully. However with the money these people are charging I would most certainly think they could afford something to bring our baby in the room to us in for our last visit other than sticking her in a tiny old damn cardboard box! I more than understand that things are expensive but you make your staff talk people into having things done in instances when you know there is absolutely nothing to gain except hard working brokenhearted people's money in your bank account and you should be ashamed. We will most definitely not return nor will any family member and we will all be certain to make sure anyone we come in contact with that needs services for their pet will absolutely never go to your facility. I'd like to thank the night shift staff for taking our 9 years old dog with a fractured foot so quickly. She was given something for the pain right away and the stuff was super friendly. But after seeing the quote of around $4500 dollars, it went down hill from there for us. I understand all businesses need to pay the bills, but the quote was packed with unnecessary fluff. I feel they are trained to take advantage of bad situations when owners are at their weakest moment. "example" $249 per x-ray is crazy! They wanted to take 4 of those. That's $1000.00 for 4 x-rays for a dog! I can go to my Chiropractor and get a consultation, 2 X-days and 2 adjustments for $99.00. We ended up declining all fluff, unnecessary procedures and asked them to simply set & splint the foot. $445.00 out the door with pain meds. "Not Bad" They did a beautiful job on the splint and were confident the set was good without a x-ray. We will follow up with our own vet from here. Read Less

Heroes, I made the decision to drive here on the recommendation of a neighbor who had just had his dog in for surgery after he ate a bunch of socks, said they were very nice and compassionate and save his dog. Fast forward 2 weeks and my puppy got in the trash and ate a bunch of chicken bones. I brought him in and was met by a very nice girl at the desk. I spoke with the surgeon, Dr. Bander, and right away I felt confident that i had come to the right place. He explained exactly what was going on, what needed to happen, and then made it happened. The surgery was a success and except for a little scar on his belly, he's good as new. They even called me afterwards to check on him and see if he was ok. If your dog is in danger, I'd absolutely 100% say to go here. Read Less

Twice now, we’ve brought our 12 year old goldendoodle here. The first time they were demending a MRI to find out if she had a tumor in her nasal cavity. We refused, gave her to our trusted and local vet who gave her anti-biotics- our dog responded well and her nasal problems are gone. They were trying to charge us $3500- with the price growing every time they came in. Today? The last straw. This morning our dog was accidentally given the wrong medications, instead she was fed a potentially fatal medication at 7:30 am. We gave her hydroperoxide to try to empty as much of the medication and pill out of her stomach. They were the only place open, we rushed our dog over knowing we were working against time. 10:30 am they hand us a bill- before even giving our dog a treatment. The treatment? Activated charcoal. I want anybody reading this to look up the price of activated charcoal and when and how crucial it is for dog’s with toxins in their system. By 10:30 our dog has had this medicine in her system for 3 hrs- at the dose she took some of the symptoms include seizures. For 3 hrs all they could do was give us a bill for $2500 before they would give her a life-saving treatment. When we demanded they give her the treatment after 3 hours- it took them around 10-15 minutes to give her what she needed. Never go here, they are not an emergency vet. They just want your money and treat you as money and your dog as an excuse to get it. If you are genuinely concerned for the health of your dog- long and short term. Look elsewhere. Update: After demanding the treatment to at least help prevent any symptoms, they charged us $200 versus $2500. We were taking her to our local vet who is prepared to help care for our dog and give her the examination she needs that bluepearl neglected to give her upon her arrival. Read Less

Our vet of over 10 years referred us to Bluepearl to get an ultrasound on our dog. While she would have liked to have our dog seen by the internist who specializes in this service, told us we would have to wait weeks for an appt. She instructed us to go to Bluepearl from her office on the Saturday of Memorial Day weekend and go through their emergency department . Our vet informed us that they would have someone on call to do the ultrasound. After meeting with the Bluepearl vet in duty, it was very clear that she didn't feel that the test our vet requested was not important enough to call the tech in on a holiday weekend. (Despite the instruction from our vet who has been treating our dog since we got him 5 years ago as a pup.) While our vet had just been rehydrated him 30 minutes before he arrived at Bluepearl, our vet also provided us with copies of x rays and blood work her office had just completed thst morming. The Bluepearl vet wanted to rehydrate him again, even after she said that previous treatment hadn't made it into his system yet. Of course she wanted to do more blood work to have sent out. She would prefer not to call the person in to so the ultrasound, but rather keep our dog overnight for observation. Remember we referred here simply for an ultrasound. The Bluepearl vet did tell us if we would take our dog home Saturday bought him back on Tuesday we would be recharged another $100 examination fee. This has us baffled as they didn't do anything to try to treat our dog that day. After waiting over an hour and no response from their ultrasound tech to return their call from their office, we left. We really wonder if that person was ever even called, or more importantly what if our dog was in dire straits Bluepearl probably not properly staffed to help him. Our vet called Saturday after to see how thing went and was very disappointed Blue Pearl didn't inform her office they would not have one on call over the weekend to conduct the ultrasound test. Our opinion, Blue Pearl is more concerned with taking advantage of a situation and running up bills than treating pets. Complete waste of time and money. Read Less

Unfortunately as we sit at the desk to check out I feel very much like a bate and switch was just pulled on us. We were given several quotes for the activities that they were going to do, each time we talked more fees were being added etc. An hour ago my wife spoke to them and was given a quote for the currently executed activities. Now that we are here to pick up our dog another 500 dollars has been added to the bill, with little to no explanation except the quote was not taking things into consideration. Reiterating what I wrote on Yelp...People should know how heinous this place is. I was referred here for a surgical removal of a tumor for my elderly dog, Biscuit. After leaving Biscuit there a couple days post-surgery along with a check-up a week later to remove his sutures, I noticed a surgical staple left in on his abdomen. Considering the surgery cost $5,000+, I expected them to do everything 110% right. This was a big mistake on their part. I complained with the manager on call that day, and demanded to determine if there was some sort of monetary rectification they could do because of this. She mentioned I would definitely, 100% get a call on Monday to discuss this, agreeing that this was something that was not permissible. The veterinarian overseeing the surgery called a couple days later and apologized profusely through a voice message, claiming it was a big mistake on her part. When Monday rolled around, the manager belittled the situation and called it an 'oversight.' They didn't think I deserved any sort of refund, and I was making a big deal out of it. I should also note that I had to pick up the phone and call them. They totally forgot about my case. I'm a medical student, and if I would leave any sort of surgical staples in my patient in the future, I'm sure I would not hear the end of it from my boss, or from the patient that would be suing me. If you don't want surgical staples carelessly left in your pet, don't go here. Read Less

Read Less

Read Less
