After being clients of Birmingham Vet for close to 20 years, I just got fired as a client??? We have a 2 year old grandson and have been trying to help our 7 year old dog adjust to having our grandson visit. It has been a problem and we asked for help and were given acepromazine for the last visit. It had the opposite reaction with our dog. I spoke to Marie the following business day and she was to talk to Dr Scott and get back with me. I called today to find out what they could give Scooter and after a very strange conversation with Marie, she told me that they were firing us as clients and would send us our records! They claim that they told my husband that there were no other medications that they could give us due to a liver shunt (spelling ?) that our dog has. My husband never got that message. When I tried to call back, I was hung up on twice! The third time another employee took my call. Regardless of how my discussion with Marie went; this is how clients of 20 years get treated? We are very pleased with this vet! We took in our Amazon parrot to Dr. Scott for a lump under his wing. She handled him very well without causing him any harm. She was very knowledgeable and thoroughly answered all questions we had. She has a very positive attitude and it is obvious that she loves animals. Our bird that is very apprehensive with strangers loved her! We have been to other vets and they do not compare. She will now be the only vet we take him and our other pets to. When I was 16 years old I worked at this Veterinary clinic for almost 2 years while still in high school-similar to what might be known as an internship.  Today (10 years later) I called in asking to speak with Marie.  Even though she was currently in surgery, the lady who answered the phone was able to provide helpful information in regards to the female Maine coon I have that recently gave birth to a litter of 5.  After 10 years, nothing has changed.  The employees at The Birmingham Veterinary Clinic have yet to fail me in any way.From first and now second-hand experience, this clinic is the BEST clinic to go to for any all of your pet concerns and questions.  I would and will recommend this clinic first to anyone needing help with their pets.Thank you Dr. Fernandez-Scott, thank you Marie, and thank you to the nice receptionist for the great customer service 10 years later! This place is great. I have taken 3 of my pets here recently including my gecko. Doctor Scott is super friendly, knows what she is doing and the staff always has treated me greatly too. She seems like the only avian and reptile doctor in the area and welcomes you with open arms. Her methods of medicine works really well. My himalayan kitty recently had a UTI infection and urinary crystals. She treated him just fine and he seemed to be doing better that day with her treatment. In fact he was running around the house that night! She put him on some of her prescription diet food and he absolutely loves it. I would recommend this place out of any veterinarian in the area. On June 27th I took my Shih Tzu Chiquis to her annual exam with Dr. Christine Scott of Birmingham Veterinary Clinic. I told her about my continuing concern for my dog from the previous year in regards to her unrelieved symptoms; frequently peeing, excess of water intake, flaky skin and odor in her ears. She re-assured me that last years exam & blood work had been normal. Now a year later she said she would get more blood work, I suggested she get a urine sample. This came back positive and after XRAY confirmation (a day later) Chiquis was diagnosed with bladder stones as well as a yeast infection on her skin. Dr.Scott prescribed medication for the yeast and suggested we go to another hospital as she did not feel "comfortable" operating on this size stones. Chiquis had her surgery 7/5 at Oakland Veterinary Hospital where Dr.Duncan and all of his staff offered exceptional care for my baby. Chiquis has since had complications; ear infection and continuing bladder infection. She has been on countless medications, received fluids since she has not eaten in 4 days (and counting). Needless to say I am very upset for what I believe is inadequate care that my dog has received and feel that people should be aware of Dr.Scott's practice so that no animal has to go through what Chiquis and my Family are going through.
