Our Golden retriever had a growth on his lower eyelid. It was removed by a local veterinarian and it grew back. We were then looking (for months) for someone else to do the procedure as the growth was twice as big as the one that was originally removed. Several Dr.s declined as it was "out of their scope" and a quote from one group of specialist was close to $4,000 for the procedure. Dr. Sayles at VetSelect in Novi/Walled Lake recommended we contact the Advanced Veterinary Care group. I called on a Monday and the procedure was completed within 24 hours of the call for 1/10th of the price quoted by the other specialist. The whole experience was great with friendly, kind, caring staff. They called us a few days after the procedure to follow up and check on their patient. We have our fingers crossed that the growth will not come back and are fortunate to have been recommended to AVC. Read Less

If you are looking for extraordinary surgeons for your furry child, look no further! As a licensed veterinary technician, I have worked with some of the very best in my 28 year career--and these two doctors are right at the top! So let us play true/false. True: they perform digital ultrasounds and X-rays, AND send them to a board certified radiologist to be read--the best of the best so no mistakes are made! True: their technicians and assistants have all the certifications/licenses needed to perform their jobs, and they are amazing at it! True: their clinic is no frills--this means no coffee bar and no fireplace in the lobby. It also means you aren't paying up-charges for them either! True: they are absolutely dedicated to the best possible surgical outcome for your pet--I have personally seen them work miracles! False: they just want to do the surgery and then "dump" you back at your vet--They cherish the bond between you and your regular vet (and their bond with them as well!) and they leave aftercare to the ones who know you and your baby best! False: they won't see your pet if there is a complication--They will replace broken sutures, deal with infections of the surgical site, anything related to surgery they perform. Drs Elmer and Larsen truly believe that you should never have to decide to help your pet based on money--this is why their prices are so competitive--no up-charges, no frills, just a caring, competent staff and the best value so that you can still afford food after you've paid for the surgery! It seems crazy that a vet exists that isn't "in it for the money". Well, crazy is true--these doctors are in it for the animals! (by the way, I no longer work with them and STILL use them for all 11 of my furry kids needs!--how many of your employers can you say that about?) Read Less

If you have complications with your pets surgery save yourself the headache and go somewhere else for a second opinion and follow up. Our hefty emergency bill was a result of restitching our pet who had broken his stitches and come back to Advanced for fixing. They sent us home with an animal who was leaking and incision looking terrible. Within the few days we had called and sent pictures out of concern and were told it should be ok. The next day (which was Saturday when advanced was closed) we took a trip to the emergency vet. Actually 2 different emergency vets who looked at my animal and both indicated they did a terrible job restitching his incision. He had NOT done damage to his stitches or staples since the restitching but was still "leaking" BADLY. Apparently they had sewn the restitch into forming scar tissue which was not yet strong enough. The emergency vet fixed him up right (and yes there was a visual difference right away!) for the price we paid for the original surgery. While the vet techs here are extremely friendly, we were NOT IMPRESSED. Neither were the emergency vets who looked at our dog afterwards... proceed with caution. Read Less

We came to the Advanced Veterinary Care Group from the Upper Peninsula of Michigan to get a second opinion on a surgery for our 14-month-old foster lab, named Charlie. We were told that Charlie was to have no food after midnight in case he needed surgery. This was important since we travelled so far. Orthopedic surgeon Dr. Elmer examined him and scheduled surgery that same day for a ruptured cranial cruciate ligament. We were fully informed of our options and were given a quick overview of the surgery. Shannon was exceptional in organizing the details and making Charlie and us feel very comfortable. When we picked Charlie up the next morning, Shannon thoroughly guided us through the post op rehabilitation for Charlie and cautioned us on the importance of keeping him quiet for the first few weeks. She gave us an exhaustive manual to follow when we took Charlie home. I called her immediately when we arrived home and she was wonderful about answering our questions. You can surely feel how their team is committed to compassionate care for the animals and their owners! We sincerely appreciate their knowledge and skills. We recommend them wholeheartedly! Read Less

They fit him in for major surgery - a FHO - which he desperately needed, 2 days after I called. They treated him like I would - with such love and care - upon drop off, during and after his procedure, which I was immensely grateful for. I loved meeting with Shannon upon picking him back up as she was a wealth of knowledge who TRULY loves cats (she has 9 of her own!). She gave me expert instruction on his post-surgery care and answered ALL of my questions, and there were quite a few! They also accept Care Credit which was a saviour for us as we didn't anticipate having to do something like this. We now have 36 months to pay off the surgery with zero interest which is another blessing in itself.
I'd highly recommend this clinic to anyone who has to have surgery - especially a complex one - done on their furry family member. This type of thing is never easy - on the pet and their loved ones. And the staff truly turned this experience into as much of a positive experience as it could've been.

Regarding Mr. Sanoff's comments: We do apologize if our admission process seemed rushed to you. That is never our intent. Regarding the length of Kota's appointment, the physical exam to verify if a cranial cruciate ligament rupture exists (cranial drawer test) literally takes 10 seconds and is definitive. The TTA-Rapid is a complex surgery which requires complete post-operative compliance by the owners for a positive outcome. All owners are informed of the post operative expectations and potential complications, especially with regard to protecting the incision from infection from either the pet licking the incision or even environmental contaminants. The owner called us with a normal post operative situation, mild to moderate pink-tinged drainage from the incision for a number of days post surgery, and was directed to have the incision examined by his family veterinarian as a convenience to him. Any veterinarian can assess an incision and we did not wish Mr. Sanoff to have to wait for an opening with us. He was asked to call back to schedule with us if he was unable to see his regular veterinarian or if his vet wished us to see it next. He did not contact us with any further information with regard to Kota's knee or any other complications thereof. We would have happily seen Kota if we had been made aware. Having said this, we are very concerned that Kota does get the appropriate care and have reached out to contact his veterinarian for an update. Read Less

My 5 year old dog had TTA surgery here and it has been a nightmare ever since. Well, really before the surgery even took place. I initially called to schedule a consultation and they said I could bring her in the next day and they would do a consultation and surgery in the same day. I was ecstatic because I did not want my pup to be in pain/suffer any longer than she had to.
I brought her in the next morning and the consultation consisted of a 5 minute overview of the surgery before they took her back and then an outline of the aftercare instructions and payment. It honestly felt more like a business transaction then it did dealing with someone that actually cared about my dog. It has been awful since then and will attempt to keep it short in hopes that as many people will read this as possible.
Draining from the incision site persisted about 5 days after the surgery. I called to see if I could bring her into Advanced to get her looked at. Their response was, "See if you can get her into her normal vet, but we will try to get her in if not." It is amazing to me that they pawned this off on someone who did not even do the surgery. After following the post-op procedures carefully, she developed an internal infection. I have since had to take my dog back to her normal vet 4 times to deal with the mess Advanced made. This includes poor suturing of the incision site and sustained internal and external infections.
The lack of care, respect and precision with this group is almost impressive. I would advise you to go anywhere else but here. Even if it costs more, I would pay upfront instead of paying for continual vet visits and the emotional stress of dealing with it all.Read Less

Dr. Larsen took care of our Labrador Retriever when her primary doctor suggested having an ultrasound done. Dr. Larsen was extremely thorough in assessing her condition and took ample time to talk to us, even taking us into the ultrasound room and showing us 'live' what was going on inside her. It is apparent that Dr. Larsen loves his work.
Although our dog's tumor turned out to be hemangiosarcoma, we felt lucky to have found a veterinary specialist that could go right to the problem and do the best thing possible, without unnecessary tests and procedures. When her cancer came back, we wanted to know how bad she was. Dr. Larsen scanned only what was necessary (one side of her abdomen) and charged us accordingly. The full scan, by the way, was far more reasonable than any other clinic that we called.
The clinic is quiet, new and spotless. It is very convenient to I-275. I cannot imagine a better place to take care of your pet.

Read Less

My dog Annie of 12 years old was very sick and going downhill very fast. My wife took her to a vet hospital and told her that her spline had cancer and needed to be removed and was going to be $8000.00. She needed emergency surgery right away. She was pretty much unresponsive. My wife called me all upset and was asking what we should.... put her down? I said call Advanced where we had a procedure done on are other dog some years ago. They said bring her down right away. The price was a fraction of what they gave us. Annie had to stay overnight and the next day she was back home and when I arrived home from work that day she got up to greet me waged her tail once and went laid back down. She's been fine since! Read Less

I can't even express how amazingly WONDERFUL Dr Larson, Shannon and Bethenny were to my kitty cat Dante.
Thank you so much Shannon, Dr Larson and Bethenny!!! You took such fantastic care of my sweet boy & that in itself is PRICELESS!!!! Read Less

Read Less

If there was less than 1 star, then I would leave that.

Read Less
