I recently had my 1st visit to this office. Unfortunately it was one of the worst days of my life but I can't say enough good things about the way my family and our dog were treated! First off my dog had a seizure at home and I knew there was something seriously wrong with her. I called her regular vet and they were not able to see her so they recommended we take her to the Grand Rapids emergency hospital. I was pretty sure she was not going to make that drive so I just googled vets in Cedar Springs and they popped up 1st. I called and explained my situation and the girl on the phone told me to just get her there and they would get all our info when we arrived. When we got there they met us outside with a stretcher and brought her right in to see the vet. The vet looked at her gums and right away knew there was internal bleeding because her gums were white. At that time I was not concerned about money because I would have paid whatever it took to save her but realistically I don't have alot of money and pretty much live pay check to pay check so the fact that the vet knew what to look for to determine the right test to do really helped us out! Unfortunately they found a large mass on her spleen and she was bleeding to death. The vet told us surgery could be an option but didn't think she would make it through or even to the surgery. She also reinsured us that there was no way we could have known this was going on inside of her because of course when you hear something like that the first thing you do is question how you didn't know or if there were signs you didn't see! At that time we made the hardest decision ever and decided we had to put her to sleep. Everyone was so helpful and patient with us during that time. When everything was all done I was a complete wreck and just wanted to get out of there but when we went to pay our bill I realized we needed to move some money from one account to another. The girl helping knew I wasn't doing well and needed to get out of there so she came over and hugged me and told me to just take care of my bill when I could! Pretty amazing since we had never even been there before! I feel everyone there really cares about animals and their families and I will bring my future pets back there. I couldn't be more disappointed with my experience here. My parent's cat has cancer. We've been given several different estimates on the cost of surgery for her. Every time we call, we never get to speak to the same person and they all seem to have no clue what's going on with our account. On Friday, we were told that we would need a certain amount for the surgery today. This morning I went in and was told I would need the full amount ($1888) and the portion sent to collections. This was not what we were told on Friday. On Friday we were told that we would need $633. I went and got a money order for this amount and took her in this morning. We were told that we would need to reschedule our cat, that has cancer. That is dying. I believe the phrase used on the phone later when we tried to explain what we were told was, well, "We can euthanize her for you". I walked out and will not be back. No sympathy at all for a beloved pet. Read Less

We have gone here for 16 years. We switched to Cedar Animal Hospital after our dog got sick and our vet at the time sent us home saying she would be okay. I was not comfortable with that and made an appointment with Dr Nauta by recommendation of a friend. They got our dog in the same day, and ended up admitting her overnight for fluids and observation. The sickness resolved, and she lived until she was 15 years old. Our 8 year old golden/lab was diagnosed with cancer this past August by Dr Nauta. Unfortunately it is untreatable. When I make appointments, I specifically request Dr Nauta. We do not have experience with the other vets. Dr Nauta is always attentive, honest, kind, and understanding. Julie has always been extremely helpful and sweet. Great experience with all the vet techs and assistants as well. Thank you Dr Nauta and staff for taking great care of our fur babies.Read Less

Would give absolutely no stars if I could. Dr. Simon is the biggest jack ass I have ever met. I took my dog in because he wasn't moving his back legs. Dr. Simon just looked at my dog and said "You have two options; spend thousands of dollars for a surgery that may not work or euthanize him.". He didn't do a spinal exam he literally just looked at my dog and said that. He didn't even speak to me. I went with my roommate and he spoke directly to my roommate the whole time. Even though she was sitting down and I was the one standing and holding my dog. I decided to take my dog to a different vet where they actually examined him and worked with me. They told me that with some rest and pain meds he will be able to walk again. This has been about a month ago now. I wanted to wait to post a review until I was sure that Dr. Simon was wrong. My dog is walking and moving around now, no thanks to Cedar Springs Animal Hospital and Dr. Simon. I am never taking my dog here again and am strongly advising all of my friends to do the same.Read Less

We've been going to Cedar Animal Hospital ever since we got our mini lop bunny close to 4 years ago. They are great with animals and great with owners as well. Our cat that we got a year and a half ago was really sick and they did everything they could for him before calling us and saying the best thing for him was to euthanize him. They were so great with us yesterday as they took us through the process. The only thing that hurts was that he died in pain before they could get the medicine through his IV. They are so great with both pets and their owners and I intend to take all my animals here for all of our animal's needs. Read Less

We've been using Cedar Animal Hospital for years and have spent 1000's of dollars on our pets with Dr Nauta, who we love.   Since he has gone into semi-retirement we have become disillusioned with the place. Just tonight I had to take my German Shepherd in because she was sick and when I called they told me that I would have to pay an extra 40 bucks because they were very busy and would need to squeeze me in as an emergency. When I get there, there is 1 other person there and they saw me right away and still charged me the extra 40 dollars. To recap- they lied to me about how busy they were to justify over charging me. Late response but my neighbors took their dog here because they where the only ones to do a wired jaw on little animals. Well they paid over $500 for the surgery & when they took their dog back to their original vet he did X-rays because cedar vet never did X-rays to show the surgery was done right. Well when the X-ray's came out it showed NO WIRE in the jaw at all. So Cedar Animal vet lied & took their money for a surgery that was never preformed. Oh & also the receptionist was rude. I adopted my daughter's Flemish Giant pet rabbit and needed to get him neutered. There are very few veterinarians that perform bunny neutering, but I was referred to Cedar by the House Rabbit Society. Charlie had some minor complications after surgery and the doctors and staff were so helpful for the entire week after, getting him back to strong health. They were kind, compassionate and accommodating to my "crazy bunny lady" calls every day. I would recommend this animal clinic to anyone. I was referred to Cedar Animal Hospital and Dr. Nauta from a friend, and I will be forever thankful to the friend and the vet! Dr. Nauta was able to diagnose my dog almost instantly (which was not something that my previous vet could do - in six months time and hundreds of dollars). Since then, all four of my kids have been seen by Cedar Animal Hospital and I have never regretted the change. We've been going there for 5+ years since first adopting our rescued doggie. He came to us with behavioral issues due to past abuse & being fearful of humans, and Dr. Nauta & staff have always been great about working with us... so much so that we have moved and continue to make the trek to Cedar Springs for both the dog & our old kitty. I Cannot recommend this vet enough. I do breed specific rescue and he has save countless dogs in our rescue. His kindness and compassion as well as that of his staff is beyond compare. I know I tried many vets before settling in him and that was over 13 years ago. I have had many people call me crying because their dog is sick and the prices quoted for saving their dogs is far out of there reach. I always, without a doubt recommend Cedar Animal Hospital. When I took my dog in for her yearly exam, Dr. Nauta prescribed a medicine for my dog to treat the stiffness that she has had since she was a puppy. He told me it was safe, so he didn't give me a list of side-effects. My otherwise perfectly healthy dog suddenly started falling over and couldn't walk, nor could she control her bowels. I shared my concerns about the medicine with Dr. Nauta, and he said the medicine was safe, that something else was causing the problems. In the course of less than 2 weeks, my dog went from being fine to being a paraplegic. At that point, Dr. Nauta thought that she had developed degenerative myelopathy, a genetic disorder that causes similar problems, and that it had caused a years worth of degeneration in two weeks. When I looked on-line for the side effects to the medicine Dr. Nauta had prescribed, all of the side effects my dog experienced, including paralysis, were on the list. The medicine was not safe. Even if my dog does have the gene for degenerative myelopathy, the disease had not progressed, and was brought on by the medicine. Dr. Nauta has worked with my pets for years, and has always been considerate and responsible. Before this experience, I would have rated this veterinary hospital with at least 4-stars. However, my dog probably won't survive the month. The effects of Dr. Nauta's treatment, and his insistence that his treatment had nothing to do with her rapid demise is unacceptable. That is what earned him a 1-star rating. Professionals make mistakes, just like everyone else, but it in necessary to acknowledge them and do everything possible to fix those mistakes and make sure nothing like it happens again. From our discussions, I have every reason to believe that Dr. Nauta will continue prescribing Rimadyl and declaring it safe, without including a list of potential side effects. If I had known the potential side effects, I would have taken my girl off of it the second day, and she would not be having these problems. Read Less

DO NOT USE THIS VET! Only gave a star because it would not let me take that one too! Anyone looking for a vet in the Cedar Springs, MI area I just want to let people know a tiny portion of what happened with my babies and friends. I have a 7 and 9 year beagle they are my children anyway you look at it basically my life, I went to this VET their whole life, just in the last 6 months I was getting really tired of the flipant attitude and what I felt was a lack of compassion or care. I changed to a new vet and at the first appointment I found out that My 7 year old Sammy had a heart murmur which about killed me and to find out that the new Vet felt it probably came from a lack of care on my Vet's part at Cedar Animal Hospital I was so upset to say the least, I just found out that a friend of mine that also took her baby to Cedar Animal Hospital just got diagnosed with congestive heart failure that was not treated or diagnoised for a year. She went to a new VET and he stated that she was getting a lack of oxygen her tongue was purple and her heart rait was thru the roof, he put her on new meds and within two weeks her tongue was pink and her heart rait came down considerably. I would never tell anyone where they should go but felt it my duty to WARN people so that heaven forbid one of their babies died from something like this. Our beloved vet Dr. Leply of Howard City died so we've been forced to find somebody else.  We have gone to Cedar Animal Hospital in the past due to their close location to our home but found their prices quite high. Recently both our dogs needed to seen by a vet and they required quite a few tests (both routine and for their illness) and diagnosis.  I was expecting it to run around $300. but they waived the office call fee's and fecal test fee's without us even asking so I was happy to see they are more reasonable with their charges and it saved us over $100.  Office and attending staff very nice as well as Dr. Nada.  Clean, well maintained office. Might be worth a second look if you've previously been put off by their prices. Read Less
