Called today after my puppy’s face was swollen. They got us in immediately and put us in a room as soon as we got there. The whole visit was quick and the vet was awesome. Her swelling has gone down completely and I felt completely comfortable with them. We also take our sugar gliders here for check ups and nail clippings. I absolutely love this vet ... my mom told me about it when my little lizard got sick and since then I’ve been bringing my lizards , cats, dogs, and even mice here! The staff is always so nice and friendly ... I really love how they call me on my pets birthdays to wish them a happy birthday ... one time I brought one of my lizards up there because he got hurt and when they called a few days later to check on him and I told them he passed away they sent me a card. If you care about your exotic animal DO NOT take them here. First of all, if you call to talk to a doctor, after you spent hundred of dollars, forget it, they will not call you back. If you have a blood test done, do not expect to see the report. My bird died, while under their care. I do not feel like they really did anything for him. They gave him meds but obviously they did not work and when I called, I never got a call back. They are very expensive and seem like all they care about is just running up your bill. Not sure how they are with dogs or cats, but from how they handled my bird, I will never go there for any other animal and I would never recommend them. On May 3rd , will be the first time my fur baby ( dog) will be going there for am echo on,his heart. There is a Dr. there that does this at a much lower cost. They also had his antibotics, the office staff is very understanding, respectful and professional, but not to the point that you feel a little stupid and when you just lost one of your dogs at a young age , not even 2 wks ago and then you find out that your other dog needs their help for heart problems... i felt better knowing he will be in good hands. If you care about your animals, especially exotics, PLEASE do not take them here. Although some reviews show that their exotics were properly taken care of, 99% of reviews regarding exotics are terrible, and for good reason. Had I listened to their terrible recommendations, my gecko could have died. GOOGLE would do a much better job at giving information about your pet and its husbandry better than the Vet or Vet Techs at this “hospital”. Their main concern is money and how to get someone to pay an absurd amount for things the animal does not need. The exam is over 50$ and they barely checked my gecko while never giving me a diagnosis of what is wrong with the poor little guy. The Vet Tech was extremely rude and hurt my gecko, ending in me having to step up and give the medicine to the gecko... so what was the point of having a vet tech there or a vet if I had to do their job? They are misinformed to the max and give out wrong pamphlets regarding exotics so please please please go somewhere else. They have taken good care of my senior dog, which needed to be kenneled due to death in my family, in which I had to go out of town. They have a good process for evaluating your dog. The first time was just for a day. And their groomer did a great job. I have my own vet, but they are open 24 hours in case of emergency. Read Less

Unfortunately we had to put my sweet dog to rest due to health complications. The staff was so sweet and accommodating. They did everything to make my dog comfortable and my mom and myself feel better. The doctor was amazing and gave us all the time we needed to cope. I would definitely recommend this place to anyone. Outstanding veterinary practice. I feel so comfortable from the moment I walk in to the moment I check out. Never any surprises with hidden fees. They are great with our birds, cats and if we had other exotics, I would trust Parkway to them as well. The extended hours are a blessing. The facility is open, clean, inviting and peaceful. They aren't the cheapest around but they are very affordable. They mix holistic treatment with medications which is awesome in my book. The more natural the better. I have been bringing my pionus parrot and cockatiel here for 6 years. My cockatiel, Loxton, has Avian Liver disease. She is 11 years old. They really know what they are doing. They check her liver enzymes and she takes Lactulose daily. They also treat her for chronic egg-laying with Lupron Depot injections. Read Less

My guinea pig, Sugar, contracted ringworm at a different vet. I called parkway as soon as I realized something was wrong and they were able to squeeze me in that day even though it was a Saturday and 4th of July weekend. Dr.Knapp took excellent care of Sugar. He knew exactly what was wrong and how to treat it. Everything he prescribed her was guinea pig safe and the recommended treatment from what I have read online. I really thought Parkway was a caring place for my cockatiel & I will be forever haunted by hearing what I did last night!  I understand pets don't like being poked but when I could hear my bird scream in Pain (which he's not a screamer even when he's been hurt) & hear him freaking out when he was put into the oxygen incubator (for lack of a better word) calling out frantically while the entire time the staff seems to be having a party in the back!  Then, to top it off when I asked why he was screaming for so long I'm told it was a chicken, you have to be kidding me right..  I know what my bird sounds like & it's for sure NOT a chicken.Do you not understand this is my friend as well as my pet of over 2 decades & I Love him & lets not forget I paid as well as trusted you to treat him with respect!  It may not make a difference to you but it is entirely Inappropriate to carry on like your at a frat party while worried owners wait, worry & hear what's going on!  And to top it off nobody can tell me for sure if he'll get better or not (after 5 visits) and leaves me with the HORRIBLE decision of putting him down because I can't ever hear him scream in pain like that again, I am So Upset there's not enough words to describe this...  I totally feel like your Veterinarians (with the exception of 1) could care Less about my bird or myself because it's a hard case & you just don't want to be bothered, sad!  The girls up front always managed to get me in on short notice & that's appreciated but as far as expert care in the back, not so much!  Parkway needs to have supervision, concentrate on the animals & not be so Unprofessional when they think nobody is watching! Dr. Periat is not a trustworthy Veterinarian. We have been in there with her multiple times, had her tell us one thing is wrong, or something else is wrong, only to return a few days to a week later and have our pet in worse condition than when the initial concern is brought to light. Dr. Knapp is a phenomenal Veterinarian, and if we could see him more often a number of our concerns would have been taken seriously, and would have prevented the more serious actions that we have had to take due to Dr. Periat's lack of concern for our pets. I hate to write a bad review regarding Parkway, I have had very good experiences with them in the past. However I had a bad experience recently when I decided to put down our dog who suffered from DM.   Just a little warning / advice. The Vet insisted on putting in an IV to administer the solution. This was very painful for her... and the IV was not put in correctly so the solution went under the skin instead of in the vein... it was not pleasant, and it is haunting me and will for a long time..... They then gave her a sedative, which calmed her down, and pretty much put her out, and they were able to find a vein to finish. If I ever have to do this again (I have another 14yr old dog....) I will insist on the sedative first, no IV, or I will go somewhere else.  Parkway, please review your policies on this subject, it is a very hard on the dog in its last moments of life, and the owner. Awesome care for my pets! I'll never take them to any other doctor. They have boarding attached as well, so I know the doctors are available if anything happens while I'm away. The front desk staff always greets me with a smile and I can tell they all really love my dog and cat. Best vet I've ever been to. They genuinely care about my pet's health and never push me into doing anything that's not necessary; they also recommended some natural supplements to prevent problems that are common with my dog's breed. Please check this vet out for yourself, do not listen to the previous reviews. We have been taking our exotics here for years. They've handled my bird and snake amazingly, and are super nice.They've never taken my appointment later than 10 minutes after it was scheduled, and during the appointment they printed out a quote for any tests or shots that our animals may need on upcoming visits.Very reasonable prices, too. If you choose this vet, especially for ferrets, here is some advice and suggestions. Ask for copies of records each visit, they will make copies of the originals as you check out. Request or schedule for Dr. Knapp, he seemed very educated and had excellent bedside. Follow up on the vets diagnosis by doing your own research, sometimes things are over looked. Avoid Dr. Engle, she is unprofessional and does not seem to be invested in her patients the way you would want your vet to be. Ask to witness any tests being performed, do not let them take your ferret / pet out of your site, there is NO need for it. And lastly, along with keeping paper records, keep audio as well, it was very helpful for explaining things and keeping notes. It also helps with keeping reviews and arguments factual. Staff was very nice, handled my animals with care and knew what they were talking about with my exotic breed (pygmy hedgehogs). Totally overpriced! Our whole family had been taking our pets to Parkway for a decade+... Myself, my mom and my aunt are ALL done with them now! We've all had horrible experiences lately. And Dr. Engle is the worst! Avoid her... So condescending and just rude. Dr. Periat is great though! I wish she worked at a different place. Parkway's prices keep escalating! My bill the other day was $299.19 and we walked out of there without any medication or resolution to my cat's health issues. There are waaaaay better places out there... Choose one of those! After I moved away from the area, I was STILL driving 45 minutes from Lake Orion to take my cat to see them. They used to be great... Until a few years ago. The place blows now! I wouldn't recommend them if my life depended on it. Requested my cat's medical records Friday am and was told I wouldn't get them til Monday, I wanted those records to take her to a different vet the next day (today). The vet here is in and out to charge their patient a $40.00 fee for no help! Our dog has been losing weight drastically and they only offered for her to come back in two weeks if it kept persisting. Our dog could have died. We went elsewhere, did tests, and now she's back to normal gaining weight again. This company runs more like a convenient store than a true vets office. Took my turtle there on 6/28/14 and was told he had the flu so we paid for the service and the medication. We did exactly what they said, followed the treatment down to the hour he received his shots everyday. They even called the other day to tell me that it would take a week for him to start responding to the treatment. My poor Gus died early this morning... Thank you for nothing. The staff is incredibly helpful and professional! Not only were they incredibly patient and understanding with my hurt and sick bearded dragon, but they were just as patient with me, the semi-hysterical pet owner! ;) They've followed up on my little guy by phone and they've done an amazing job answering my questions and keeping tabs on my beardie's health in the week or so since I was in the office, which has been tremendously appreciated and has certainly done wonders to put my mind at ease! My parrot has been severely injured by the vet and 2 techs.  This was part of a "normal" exam, including x-rays.  They took him to the x-ray room, assuring me it would only take a minute. Over a half hour went by. When my bird came back, he was covered in scrapes and abrasions, feathers bent, and badly shaken.  My bird has always been full-flighted. He can no longer fly. His right wing especially is damaged. When I gave him a bath the following morning, I saw he had extensive scrapes and deep bruised on and under his wings. The vet, for his part, blamed the parrot. They gave me a little free painkiller/anti inflammatory, but that's it. 2weeks later he still can't fly.  I paid almost 300 dollars to (apparently) have my parrot severely abused and injured. I will be seeking damages. IF YOU LOVE YOUR PET, DO NOT TAKE THEM TO PARKWAY. I also want to add, as I was leaving, I saw a tech with a small greyhound who obviously was sick. She was yanking and dragging the poor animal in the hall(in the back). She thought I didn't see her, but I did. People are paying extremely high prices for their animals to be mistreated there. Having had animals in our family for many years, we have seen quite a few top rated veterinary practices in southeast Michigan. None of them can hold a candle to the care offered at Parkway. We first saw Dr B when his practice was located on Grosbeck. We needed care for one of our birds who two other avian vets had been unable to help. That being such a positive experience, from that point on we saw Dr B for care for all our birds, dogs, and cats. Since his practice expanded and moved to Garfield Road, we've enjoyed the new facility, extended hours,and knowledgable/caring staff. Since our animals are our "kids", it's of utmost importance they receive the benefit of the best vet care available, and Parkway offers just that. With a multitude of treatment modalities, plus care and compassion that you'd think would only come from family, we are absolutely confident in partnering with them for care. When reading about the "newest" or novel approaches to vet care, we often have to smile, because Dr B has already brought them up with us during visits. He and his staff successfully blend traditional and cutting edge approaches with putting the well-being of the patient front-and-center. We are more than grateful to have them as the medical caregivers for our guys. Read Less

They've done a decent job with my rats in the past,  but are WAYYYYY overpriced!! Last time I went for meds, it was over $100 just for my rat to be seen, then his two small bottles of meds were around $180 on top of that. What?! Too bad I can't give this vet 0 stars, what a joke!!!!!This vet is RIDICULOUS! DO NOT take your pets here! They are EXTREMELY overpriced and ALWAYS running late. On the 4 separate occasions that I have taken my dog here, they are NEVER on time and always running 30-40 minutes behind schedule which is dumb. Seriously, I made an appointment for a reason.My dog had recent problems so I took him into Parkway to get an exam done. They confirmed what we thought, gave us prescriptions for him and sent us on our way. When we went to pay... it was $400. INSANE! We searched for the same meds on-line and at other vets, they were coming in at 3/4 of the price that Parkway charged us. So after he took all of his medication, we took him back in for another exam. They said we'd have to have a procedure done on him, and wrote us an estimate. $326.68. Ok, it'll fix the problem. I took him in AGAIN, for the third time and dropped him off for his procedure. They called me when it was finished and let me know that he didn't have to have anything done after all. That they found a mass and it wasn't at all what they thought. So I asked, "What are you charging me for then? Just the anesthesia and reversal?" The vet confirmed, "Yes." I go to pick him up and they had tacked on an extra charge for an exam. I initially tried to get it taken off, but go figure, the only person that could approve it was busy with someone else, so I just said, "Well it's already 9pm, I don't want to wait, I'll just pay it." Then asked the lady working behind the counter if it can be credited back to my card. She said, "Yes, I'll have someone call you tomorrow."This morning, I get a call from the same vet that I spoke with yesterday. I explained to her that when we went over what I was paying for yesterday, she failed to mention that they were going to charge me for another exam. She specifically said, "Anesthesia and reversal." She wanted to credit the money back to my account, but I said, "No, I don't plan on coming back your vet. You are extremely overpriced, always running late, and are dishonest. You could have at least called me while he was under and said, 'It looks like he doesn't need the procedure after all, but just to let you know, we did an exam.' But you didn't, you just decided to tack on an extra charge and then lie about it when I talked to you. Not only that, but I have already paid for two previous exams that determined that he needed this procedure in the first place. Plus, it wasn't even on the initial estimate that you were going to do an exam."She very rudely said, "Well I'm sorry you feel that way. I can't refund it to your card, but I can have the accounting person call you back on Monday." Right, like she's going to drop a line in that persons mailbox. I said, "Ok, thank you. Just have her call me."He response, "Yep, bye."Uhhh..... excuse me if I'm wrong, but your phone etiquette SUCKS and so does your place of employment.Beware of extra charges on your bill. Be sure to get a break down of EVERYTHING they are going to charge you for, but according to them, even if they give you a estimate, that is not a binding contract of what you're going to pay.Eff this place. Dr. B is excellent at diagnosing and treating. His knowledge of holistics is great, too. He is quite an encyclopedia-head and I trust him with my flock! He has also done amazing for my cats! This place sent us an "addendum" to our bill 2 months after they gave us a total for a 3 nite stay for one of our dogs. They demanded another 300.00 and threatened to send us to collections if we disputed the bill. We will never use this clinic again since they obviously do not have proper charges for services -AS THEY ARE RENDERED. I wonder how they treated my dogs while they were there overnight as they do not treat people well. They actually ran out to my car and demanded my drivers license number when I asked if I could look over the bill and talk to the office manager before just paying it blindly. And this was after already paying over 800.00 for the 3 day stay. They scared my kids who were in the back seat of my car! Stay away! Read Less
