So let me start off by saying I am a relatively new pet owner. I adopted my doggo a little over a year ago, so it was time for his shots and I figured I'd get him a general wellness check up too. This would be my first vet visit with my pup, so I searched around until I found an office that was highly reviewed. I decided to call Clarkston Animal Medical Center to schedule an appointment. Good service (especially at appointment based places) starts at the phone call, and this office has it down. Seriously. Despite not being able to get an appointment at the initial day that I wanted, the girl on the phone (Sarah? My receipt says STF as clerk ID) was very accommodating. Mind you, I was trying to get in the next day, after 5pm, which I'm sure is a time slot that fills up quickly. My fault, I procrastinated. Anyway, after a quick hold, she found an appointment for me. The office itself is super clean. The staff is incredibly friendly, helpful, and genuine; Boomer loved them all (but he loves everyone). After a quick wait, we were brought back to the exam room. I would like to say first, I wish I could give more then 5 stars!!! Clarkston animal hospital deserves more then 5 stars!! I have been seeing Dr. John Krieger for almost 3 years! My dog Mr.Wilson should have been named after him! He has kept my baby alive for almost 3 years, when he was only giving 6 months to a year! The whole staff is very nice & knowledgable! Dr. John Krieger and his staff are very patient with you (even someone like me😘)when ever I need to speak to Dr.krieger he calls me right away! This is a outstanding veterinary. We drive from downriver which is a hour away. And Dr. John Krieger has kept our dog Mr Wilson alive and healthy for almost 3yrs when other veterinarians only gave him 6 month's too a year too live. They are very patient an knowledgeable. Read Less

Dr John Is the best. He is kind and caring and I trust him with my three Boston Terriers. The girls at the front desk are very knowledgeable and very helpful. The medical assistants are great, but I have to mention one in particular, her name is Liza. She is one of the most caring and loving people that I’ve ever met with pets . They are very lucky to have her working there , she goes above and beyond to make sure you understand everything . This girl deserves a raise ;) seriously she’s great . Read Less

We have been going to this Vet for few years and we has always very happy with the services and the people until today!! Our kitty wasn't feeling well and we need to bring our kitty in and need helps but they said they didn't have room for her so they sent us to a pet hospital yesterday. The Vet at the hospital stabilized our kitty and told us to followup with our primary veterinarian. So we called again today for a check up on my kitty but they said they have no room today. We are so disappointed and we have been going there for so a long time and this is really upsetting us and we had decided not to call or go there again. We will find another better Veterinarian for our pet!! Read Less

What is a vet if not to take care of sick animals? I called on a Tuesday morning very early because my cat was ill. He had been vomiting for about 12 hours and I was concerned about dehydration. He was lethargic. I could not get an appointment for two more days! They were "booked".  I'm sorry, but wasn't there a time in the next 48 hours to see a sick cat? I ended up having to take him to an emergency hospital after hours. Of course the hospital sent notification to CAMC, so they called the next day to ask how he was. When I responded he was still not well, their response was "that's too bad. You should take home back to the emergency hospital." I asked if they couldn't possibly see him, and they said "they were booked".  At this point I expressed my dissatisfaction with their service. The receptionist proceeded to engage in an argument with me and suggested I was not doing the best thing for my cat because I was concerned about the $800 it would cost at the emergency hospital. I came here with my newest dog, an older lab who had been neglected for some time. The staff was friendly, helpful, and very kind. They treated my smelly, scabby old man like he was a darling puppy. My dog saw Dr. Sarah James, and I was impressed by her depth of knowledge and well-reasoned approach to his treatment and recovery. She addressed the situation calmly and without wasting time judging his previous owner. He's going to be just fine, and I am going to be coming back for all my future animal medical needs. The prices were very reasonable and the staff had worked up an estimate for me when my appointment was scheduled, so I knew what to expect. Read Less

My dog isn't terrified when he comes in for his appointments and he usually would try to escape at all costs at any other vet we have been to so they have an A+++ in my book! First experience was good, problems with our other cat. Canceled our cats surgery at the office because she was too young, when we had already given them her age ahead of time. When we rescheduled the surgery they made a mistake and scheduled the appointment for shot only, so we had to reschedule again. Very inconsiderate of our time. Read Less

I agree with everyone overall except for one vet and I do not know her name. She runs late all the time and when you have a scared and sick animal it is hard. I left one time without being seen. I am not talking about 5 minutes here; a half hour in the room with no one coming in. This happened the first three times I saw her. The girl at the desk said it was emergency but when I left I saw her out in the lobby discussing food with someone. I still go there but am very selective about which vet I see. No doctor has the right to keep anyone consistently waiting that long and like I said.....multiple times. Read Less

Clarkston Animal Medical Center's Staff were just wonderful in helping my daughter with our ill senior cat. We decided euthanasia was the most humane thing to do. They were kind, caring and considerate and we thank them. Mary was so nice when she called me for confirmation of our decision. Their staff made this whole ordeal better as I could not be there to support my daughter in this difficult time. We will continue to use this Vet for the care of our pets. Hands down the most amazing practice we've ever brought our dog to! Recently Amelia injured her leg and we drove over from Chicago to have Dr. John examine her. She had ruptured her patella and torn the ligament so surgery was suggested. I'm so impressed with how thorough, friendly and caring the staff has been. Special thanks to Kellie, Carrie and Angela for being so sweet with our girl!! Everyone was so patient explaining our options plus both pre and post care for our girl! Highly recommend this practice to anyone needing a veterinarian clinic with staff that's spectacular in every way imaginable! Read Less

The BEST vet in the area by far! I moved to Clarkston from Chicago and had big expectations coming from a larger city...small town charm/caring personality with big city knowledge and resources to back it up. I tried 2 vets in the Clarkston area before finding this one...thank goodness I did! Every staff member is amazing! Also, they don't push too make more $$$ on things you don't need and they genuinely care for animals. ** Previously there was a negative review about a bite...I'm sorry for your experience, but I've worked at a vet and it's A LAW to call animal control for any bite that is accidental or aggressive or whatever the case may be THAT BREAKS THE SKIN. 10 day quarantine regardless of: the animal is up to date on shots, stray or not, never bit before, meant to or accidental, etc. ** Read Less

I agree with the other person who said Dr. James has no people skills. You'd think someone who becomes a vet would love animals.  She showed no affection for animals or kindness for people.  Her first comment coming in the room was that my dog was too heavy. Not "hello".The front office staff is horribly disorganized.  Repeatedly I noticed they forgot to get paperwork signed off, or forgot to gets meds to patients.  No good routine,  and considering they're dealing with our pets LIVES I expect FAR better. I saw someone who appeared to be an office manager,  she clearly is not doing her job. No smooth flow of patients,  NO organization,  I had to pay several times one visit because they kept forgetting things.Unimpressed. Read Less

The clinic I used take my dog, cats and birds to was an avian vet as well but was quite far from our home,  They had also misdiagnosed things wrong on several occasions and my confidence in their expertise was gone.  This clinic was referred to me by an acquaintance when my dog was ill so I gave it a try.   We saw Dr. James the first time and while she seemed knowledgable enough (as far as ear infections go) she has zero people skills and I flat out did not like her.  She literally did not smile one time during the entire consultation which made me feel really uncomfortable.I opted to give the place a second chance with a different vet. The next time we went we saw one of the owners, Dr John, he was nice enough and my girl really liked him.  However, even though we were there for tummy issues I mentioned several times her ears seemed infected too.  He quickly looked but said he didn't see anything, but I knew from her history they were infected, so the next day I took her to a different vet who did the microbiology test and sure enough I was right.  The other problem i ran into was the front desk staff.  Not only are they incredibly slow to process you out but we have pet insurance and they make it very clear that they are not happy about having to do what is needed for me to get reimbursed for the visit.  All they need to do is provide the diagnosis on a form, get the vets signature and fax it over to the insurance with the paid invoice.  The prices here are NOT CHEAP and higher than I have ever paid so it really irked me that the vet only focused on one issue and the staff was so reluctant to help. In a nut shell I won't be returning and went on to find a less expensive place with an awesome staff and vets with both good vet and people skills, they just aren't close to my home. Read Less
