Look, animal surgery is not cheap and finding a knowledgeable surgeon is hard. Animal Surgical has highly trained vets and staff and (comparatively) reasonable rates. Pets come first here, entire staff cares about your pet and understands they are family. Don't hesitate, go here. We were referred to the Animal Surgical Center of Michigan when our 13 year old Australian Shepherd mix tore a ligament in her knee. Even with her being an older dog, Dr. DeCamp recommended the TPLO surgery and did an amazing job. The staff was very helpful and informative in explaining the recovery process. Dr. Dan was the only one who could figure out what was wrong with my dog's leg. (It wasn't a typical injury.) He did the ultrasound right in the exam room and showed me the problem. He's a great surgeon. Dr. Cody was also very accommodating and kept me up to date on my dog during his surgery and recovery. I hope my pets never need complicated or unusual surgery, but if they do, I would not hesitate to take them to this practice. I live about an hour from their location, but it is worth the drive. They are dishonest. They said my dog could be free of his cancerous tumor in his elbow if you amputate his leg for $2000. They called during surgery to let us know that there was cancer in his shoulder. They should have been more thorough with their examination if they are a good surgery center and veterinarians before putting a pet through that kind of a surgery for him to pass away 28 day post surgery. Dr. Dan and his team are simply fabulous. My dog needed a TPLO procedure. Both a local vet and a friend recommended that I take her here even though we live an hour away. I couldn't be happier from start to finish. Dr. Dan took the time to explain what is being done to my dog and the recovery care. Admittedly I was overly worried. They were very patient and kind. My dog started bearing weight on her leg 2-3 days later. The recovery just went so much faster than expected. Now, she is back running and being her silly self. During the recovery, my rambunctious dog destroyed her cone and licked her suture open. It was 8.30 pm. I didn't know what to do, so I called the surgical center. There was an option to speak directly to the vet. Dr. Dan picked up, asked me to send him pictures, and made a recommendation right then. They really go above and beyond to care for your dog and you. I was very pleased with my first visit to ASC. My 8 year old black lab was handled with loving, caring and compassionate people. They got right down on the floor to exam her. Spent a lot of time with us. They actually could fit her into the schedule to do an ultrasound and CT scan so we didn't have to come back to have these performed. The CT scan showed what X-rays couldn't. Zoey needs surgery on her fractured elbow. When I can handle the bill, she'll be going back for her surgery. Great place, glad I was referred to them. I recently inheritated my grandpa's pomeranian Foxy after his passing, so you can understand the immense attachment I have to her. On new years eve she broke her leg at the sitters, my fiance and I rushed home! She was put in a splint at the ER until we could get her to her normal doctor Monday, long story short our vet said she would need surgery and a metal plate to repair her leg. From the first phone call to the animal surgical center I could tell the entire staff truly cares for their patients, foxy was able to actually get in for the surgery Monday afternoon and came home today. The post op nurse was amazing at calming us and explaining everything, any questions we had the whole staff made us feel like we had their undivided attention and at 930pm I received a call from the actual doctor to check on how the afternoon at home went! Amazing! Fancy (male cat) had urinary blockage and needed what they call "male to female" surgery. ASC took very good care of him. They sent him home with plenty of pain meds in individual syringes so we didn't even have to measure it. They saved his life and now he is back to his happy self. The staff here is wonderful. They treat you like family. We had to bring our dog Hank in after he dislocated his elbow. They got us in the office immediately. Everything was explained clearly, Dr. DeCamp gave us plenty of time for questions. Dr. DeCamp called me first thing the morning after to answer questions that I had come up with overnight and Dr. Doyle who also helped with Hank also called to check on him as did the technician later the same day. Today was a devastating day for us. We traveled from the U.P. for a follow-up visit with Dr DeCamp - we expected it would be routine as each had been. During the examine, he detected swollen lymph nodes. Dr. Walswap confirmed our worse fears - lymphoma. So that we could plan a course of treatment to hopefully extend our time with our dog, the staff arranged for us to meet with a cardiologist. Once again - bad news, she is not a candidate for one of the drugs. Back to ASC, We had one 8 am appointment. Though out the day, we met with Dr. DeCamp, Dr. Walswap, consulted with my regular vet back home, Dr DeSana in Novi; Dr. Walswap set up a protocol for treatment and she received her first chemo. I honestly can't even say enough nice things about this office and Dr. Degner. My Bernese Mtn. Dog, Oliver, needed surgery on his elbows for a genetic condition. Oliver doesn't love everyone, he's very shy. Dr. Degner walked in and said hi and Oliver was in his lap like they were besties. The staff is so friendly, supportive and knowledgable. Dr. Degner explains everything in great detail and makes sure to answer any and all questions. The vets have multiple years of experience, but they are very up to date on current process. Oliver had an arthroscopic procedure done. He went home almost pain free. I would recommend this specialist to absolutely anyone and everyone. They said they even get clients from far out of state.
