My husband and I looked for a while to find a well priced and wonderfully reviewed vet for our pup Cooper. This place has exceeded our expectations! The staff was wonderful from squeezing us in on short notice, to being so welcoming when walking through the front door. I would give them a -5 rating if I could. We called last night needing help with our elderly cat. We knew we were at the end. We were told by the Technician that they already had two emergencies and there wasn't anything they could do. I asked if we could come in today (Feb 22) and she said no, they were are all booked. You could take him to Blue Pearl emergency clinic. I explained I didn't have $1000 to walk in the building. She replied with "well he needs to go". I said we can't. She said well, you could try calling other vets in the area. So you have time for two emergencies last night but couldn't offer us an emergency appointment this morning. We knew he was suffering and we were willing to say up all night and love him. And that is exactly what we did. My husband Called Sparta animal clinic first thing this morning. We had an appointment at 10:15 and we were able to say good bye to our sweet little guy. You are terrible people. I guess you pick and choose who you help. You were more than happy to take my $200 dollars a month ago to put drops in my dogs ears. Your lack of compassion and empathy are heartbreaking to our family. I will never set foot on your clinic and I WILL share this story with as many people as possible.Read Less

Schmitt's Animal Hospital is the best! Dr. Schmitt has been our veterinarian for years. Would not go any place else. The staff are always friendly and helpful. I can't say enough about them. Brought my cat Barnaby in because he was sick, turned out he had swallowed a sewing needle. The receptionists, Vet, and technicians were super nice, they gave me a rough estimate on price before they did any procedures, discussed with me exactly how things were going to go down while he stayed at the vet office. He was there a few nights and the Vet called me personally at least four times that weekend to keep me updated on how Barnaby was doing, she even called me on a holiday. I brought him home and he's back to his normal self. The team saved his life! I will definitely bring both of my cats here again. Absolutely the best. Last Christmas my doxie ate about 6 oz of raisins (on the Sunday of Christmas). I hadn't change to Schmitt's yet but had been thinking of doing it. They talked with the ER vet and coordinated her treatment without me having actually been there yet. They were sooo good to my Baby and always more than willinging to answer my questions. Love! It was my First time there today, brought my Rescued BullMastiff, Brutis, I have only had a week. The staff & Dr. Schmitt were so awesome with him! Although their are big costs with a big dog, they all did such a great job giving me the best bang for my buck so to speak. I don't have enough good things to say about this place. They took care of our cat when he had a broken leg, and I could feel that they have compassion for animals. They have also have hired phenomenally friendly staff. I could also tell that they were being incredibly reasonable with the prices that they were charging, and they were very up front about charges. I was pleasantly surprised by this animal hospital and I do not think I will take my cat anywhere else as long as I live in the Grand Rapids area. Read Less

They are consistently unfriendly when dealing with sensitive issues dealing with family pets, and are over priced for minimal work. We have taken both of my family pets, a yorkie and a orange tabby cat for the past few years. We've taken the orange tabby in several times due to consistent vomiting and had multiple tests done. In October 2012, we took her in to once again try and figure out what was wrong with her, and Schmitt's proceded to tell us she was fine. Last night, we took her to an 24/7 animal emergency center because she was vomiting blood, and they who told us she had cancer. We called Schmitt's to relay the paper work and x-rays from the animal emergency room to my cat's fie. Schmitts then said that THE TESTS THAT THEY HAD DONE IN OCTOBER STATED SHE HAD LYMPHOMA AND THAT IT WAS DISCUSSED WITH US. This is a lie, it was never ever discussed, and had we known we would have not allowed our cat to suffer for 6 months living with cancer. So basically, they knew our cat had cancer but never told us. They are a disgrace to veterinary hospitals every where. They should be ashamed of their lack of communication and professional attitude. Read Less

If you have a pet that is like a member of your family, you know that it's not always easy to find a good vet. Well, Schmitt's Animal Hospital is awesome. We saw Dr. Jones for my dog, Theo's, annual vaccines. She was nice and gentle and seemed to actually care about him.  The rest of the staff was also very friendly. Evereything was reasonably priced. We didn't feel ripped off like we have at other vets.  We will definately take Theo there for any future vet needs. Read Less
