I cannot say enough good things about Dr. Ruth. My little Jesse is my best buddy. He has been treated and loved innumerable times by Dr. Ruth and her staff. He always gets the VIP treatment and I cannot thank Dr. Ruth and her staff enough for their care and professionalism. I also witnessed the same care with our new little kitty Bean. Dr. Ruth has so much knowledge and compassion, it’s simply just off the charts. I just love, love, love her and her expertise. Couldn’t give a more positive review.

What a great staff and Dr. for our beloved pooch. Caring, professional, top notch care by a great staff in a clean and attractive atmosphere. Dr. Ruth Barthel is the best. Our Ruggles thinks he owns the place and can't wait to see the staff when he goes. He is a victim of mouth cancer and Dr. Ruth and staff have given him a chance to be with us a bit longer and still have a great quality of life. We drove from Mt Pleasant, MI to Grass Lake so our adopted Maine Coon mix, Rex, could have dental surgery. It was absolutely the right decision! We got an appointment quickly and were able to have the exam and procedure on the same day. The staff is amazing...so friendly and compassionate from the first phone call! Rex ended up needing two hours of oral surgery. We were updated on his progress throughout (such a blessing for this worried cat mom). We hadn't even realized that Rex was sick. During his routine vet check, our primary vet said his teeth looked bad and he would probably need to have some teeth extracted. She also told us that dental surgery on a cat can be very difficult and that without xrays, it's almost impossible to tell which teeth need to come out. (Most vet offices dont have x-rays. You should ask and go someplace that does) Two take home points for us: dental prevention is key BUT if your pet needs dental work (particularly your cat,) go to a vet dentist! They go through six extra years of training and have the knowledge and equipment needed to make good decisions about which teeth need to come out. Our Rexy healed fast! After the first day, you could tell he felt better already! Dr Barthel gave us great instructions and the right medications to make sure our boy was comfortable and healed well. I'm certain that her skill as surgeon is the reason he did so great! For a cat that "wasn't even sick," he has a new lease on life. He jumps and plays and wrestles. I even think he said, "thanks" during our snuggle the other night, when we rubbed faces and it didn't hurt him. Thank you, thank you!

Dr. Ruth is an excellent surgeon and caring veterinarian. Have brought my changing menagerie to her for over a decade and she never disappointed. She goes the extra ten miles to heal her patients. When one cat suffered constant ear infections, she researched and found a solution. Has helped us through the deaths of several pets with kindness and compassion. No guilt trips or big push for expensive proceedures. Just informed decisions. She is worth the drive it takes us to bring our pets there.

We just moved to the area and had a horrible experience with the previous vet nearby our old home. Once we moved in the area we checked this place out right away. Our dog, Gunner, had awful bumps and was loosing his hair everywhere. Shortly after one check-up and some meds at this place and he was good as new! The staff is super friendly and it is very neat & clean.

Dr. Barthel provided excellent care to our five year old cat who needed her teeth cleaned and two teeth extracted due to resorptive lesions. I recommend her for several reasons: First, while my wife took tthe kitty (I wasn't there) my wife says that her bedside manner was very good, and that she patiently explained all procedures and follow up recommendations. Second, Dr. Barthel responds to all communications promptly. Third, the cost was within the estimate provided. Fourth, Dr. Barthel is one of only four or five veterinary dentists in Michigan; vet dentists go to school for an extra six years of training. Since cleanings and extractions require a general anaesthetic, I would not have felt comfortable having a general veterinarian perform these procedures. Fifth, they use digital x-rays which have less radiation. Finally, Dr. Barthel is conservative in her care, and only removed those teeth which actually required it (there was another tooth with a small lesion, but it didn't cause pain, so she left it alone.

I stand with my head bowed in awe and complete reverence to Dr. Ruth Barthel and her wonderful staff. Dr. Barthel practices traditional veterinary medicine, but she also specializes in dental veterinary medicine. From my first telephone inquiry asking whether they could care for my Chihuahua girl with a chipped tooth to the time I picked her up post surgery to go home, the experience was 100%+. They even called the next day to check on her :-D. The care, compassion, and professionalism they exhibited deserves far more than the five stars allowed. If you are looking veterinary services, look no further ~ you won't be disappointed.

I cannot say enough good things about Dr. Ruth. My little Jesse is my best buddy. He has been treated and loved innumerable times by Dr. Ruth and her staff. He always gets the VIP treatment and I cannot thank Dr. Ruth and her staff enough for their care and professionalism. I also witnessed the same care with our new little kitty Bean. They did a FANTASTIC job making sure they did everything it took to make Leo comfortable and could go back to being a happy dog again! I can't tell you how thankful we are! They made sure to keep me updated while he was in surgery and everyone there was just so kind and thoughtful!!!!

We just moved to the area and had a horrible experience with the previous vet nearby our old home. Once we moved in the area we checked this place out right away. Our dog, Gunner, had awful bumps and was loosing his hair everywhere. Shortly after one check-up and some meds at this place and he was good as new! The staff is super friendly and it is very neat & clean.

One of the best vets I've found in Michigan. I've worked with multiple rescues and shelters over the years....grass Lake Animal Hospital is one of the best. With their amazing rates for spaying and neutering strays and barn cats, to their obvious love for the animals instead of trying to make "an extra buck"...this is the place to go.

Dr. Barthel provided excellent care to our five year old cat who needed her teeth cleaned and two teeth extracted due to resorptive lesions. I recommend her for several reasons: First, while my wife took tthe kitty (I wasn't there) my wife says that her bedside manner was very good, and that she patiently explained all procedures and follow up recommendations. Second, Dr. Barthel responds to all communications promptly. Third, the cost was within the estimate provided. Fourth, Dr. Barthel is one of only four or five veterinary dentists in Michigan; vet dentists go to school for an extra six years of training. Since cleanings and extractions require a general anaesthetic, I would not have felt comfortable having a general veterinarian perform these procedures. Fifth, they use digital x-rays which have less radiation. Finally, Dr. Barthel is conservative in her care, and only removed those teeth which actually required it (there was another tooth with a small lesion, but it didn't cause pain, so she left it alone.

Dr. Gretchen is absolutely amazing! She answered every question I had, even gave me grate tips. They are also very kid friendly.

I stand with my head bowed in awe and complete reverence to Dr. Ruth Barthel and her wonderful staff. Dr. Barthel practices traditional veterinary medicine, but she also specializes in dental veterinary medicine. From my first telephone inquiry asking whether they could care for my Chihuahua girl with a chipped tooth to the time I picked her up post surgery to go home, the experience was 100%+. They even called the next day to check on her :-D. The care, compassion, and professionalism they exhibited deserves far more than the five stars allowed. If you are looking veterinary services, look no further ~ you won't be disappointed.
