We heard great things about this clinic so naturally we decided to set up an appointment for our dog here. We didn’t know this at the time, but the vet who saw us wasn’t even someone that worked there. She was just filling in for that day. Looking back on it, I think it’s a little strange to put a new patient with someone who doesn’t even work there without telling us that. We were sent home after our first appointment with the conclusion that our dogs bladder was enlarged and we needed to give him antibiotics to see if that would help and then have a check up two weeks later. Our bill showed that our follow up appointment would be no charge because it was a follow up. When I showed up for the next appointment, the lady reached for my dog to take him outside for a pee sample- I said hold on and asked if that will cost me anything- she said yes and proceeded to walk away. I told her to hold on because I didn’t want to pay extra for that and asked if it was even needed. Come to find out, it wasn’t needed. I was then pushed to do other pricey procedures that “might help” fix the problem for the time being. So in the appointment we were pushed and pushed to get our dog neutered and there was a major sense of urgency. I was literally told “you understand what I’m telling you, right? This is serious and needs to be done ASAP.” So I left feeling panicked and set up the neutering for the next available appointment which was he following week. They sent me home paying for that follow up appointment and they also sent me home with more antibiotics and at that point I found out they gave us way too low of a dosage the first time around which could havthe been why we didn’t see any result. Wasted money for us on the first round of meds. The next day, I get out of work with a voicemail from them saying we needed to come in tomorrow for the neutering and it was urgent. I called back but they were closed so I wasn’t sure what to do. The next day I had to leave work to drop him off to get neutered. I get a call later that day and they told me they didn’t neuter our dog. I dropped him off at 10 am and I didn’t get this phone call until about 3pm. They explained to me that they found out it is not his bladder that is enlarged and proceeded to take 11 X-rays without consulting us. I went to pick him up and he was completely knocked out, couldn’t even stand up. I received the bill and was in complete shock. We payed way over the amount discussed to get him neutered and the procedure didn’t even happen?! When consulting with the vet she told me “I spent the amount you were going to spend getting him neutered anyways to find out what the problem was”. I’m I’m sorry, but I don’t think it is up to them to decide how to spend my money. We went to a specialist the next day and she said he has a cist that could be cancerous, but it could also be benign. She suggested just waiting to see what happens because he isn’t showing any signs of it affecting him. Overall, we think this clinic didn’t take the time to really see what was going on with our dog. They pushed us towards all these pricey procedures and still couldn’t give us an answer. We saw a different person each appointment we had and it is clear there was no clear communication between anyone there which left us in a panic and pure confusion as to what to do with dog. The staff were so sweet and compassionate when we took our 5 month old kitten Blanche to get fixed and front declaw. The dr. Called herself after the surgery to let us know how she did. I was a worried cat mom a couple days after the surgery because I absolutely hated the thought of Blanche hurting in any way. They were able to fit us in within a couple of hours. They weren't able to help alleviate any of her discomfort but put my mind at ease that she was healing well. My husband said he felt that there was a lot of sales pitches with some of the shots they were recommending but I didn't have that experience. Overall I'm content and plan to have Jelsma be our primary vet! Read Less

I have been taking Rascal Fox to Dr. Jelsema for the past 6 years and even though Rascal starts crying and barking the moment we turn the corner to go to his office, they calm him down and always have fast, efficient service and great care. We brought our dog to Dr. Jelsma for the last 16 years, and recently had to put our dog to sleep. I can say that after 16 years of using Jelsma as our vet, they were wonderful to deal with in every aspect of the service they provided. We have been seeing Dr Jelsema for many, many years with a few different dogs. He is simply the best at diagnosing and addressing issues and I can't think of a vet around who'd follow up HIMSELF with a phone call a few days after each appt. I got a new puppy and they were able to get me in quickly to get him all checked out and get his vaccines. The staff were incredible and really care about me and my dog. They are very helpful and knowledgeable. Everyone from the front desk to the vet tech to the doctor were so nice and really great to be around. Recently moved to the area. Dr Jelsma and staff are very knowledgeable in the care of our dog who was diagnosed with kidney disease and passed away recently. The staff was very kind and compassionate to us. Now we have a new puppy and we were very happy with the service we received on our new puppy visit.
