We had an 11-year-old Chihuahua Pomeranian mix named Poncho that was very healthy before I took him to the Veterinarian in Michigan to get his Rabies Vaccination. That was in February of 2017. From that point on his health started to decline. We took him back to the Imlay City Vet because he was not eating and was acting Lethargic. The doctor said he had Pancreatitis caused by the food he was eating. She would not admit that the Rabies vaccine could have something to do with his condition. She told us that he needed to be on fluids and that we could leave him there but no one would be there to watch him at night. We did not think he should be alone so, that evening we took him to the Wilson Vet Hospital in Romeo. They did blood work on him and said that he was in complete kidney failure NOT Pancreatitis. Doctor Wilson told us we should just “put him down” (So Cold Hearted) because we would need to give him fluids at home and we would not be able to do it because he was too mean. If the Doctor saying that did not wrench our hearts enough, while he was in there one of the interns fractured Poncho’s jaw trying to give him oral medicine. No one at the Wilson Veterinary Hospital apologized or claimed responsibility for what happened to his jaw. They did do x-rays on his jaw free but Geez that is the least they could do. They charged us for the rest of it, though, around $700.00. We had to give him fluids through a syringe every day for the rest of his life to keep him hydrated and to keep his kidneys from working as good as they could. There is a test that the Veterinarians do not to tell you about, it is a called Titer (Tighter) test. It measures your pet’s immune system level. A rabies shot is a booster shot that boosts your pet’s immune system. Every 3 years your pet is supposed to get this shot but sometimes this shot is in their system for 7 to 10 years. Therefore, your pet should not need a shot. Unless the Titer (Tighter) test is done, you never know what their immune system level is and unless you know that, the Vet will give them a booster weather they need it or not. I never knew about the Titer test. The Vets never told me about it and I think if Poncho would have had it, it would have saved his life. The shot he got was directly responsible for his death. I blame the Veterinarian’s for not giving us the option to get this Titer (Tighter) test. He was too small of an animal to have all those vaccinations in him. Poncho was like a baby to us and our hearts are broken because he is gone. We lost him August 14, 2017. A part of us is gone forever. Please, if you love your pets, do not believe that you have to give your pets these vaccinations every year or 3 years. Have the Vets give them a Titer (Tighter) test to see if they need them. Go on the Internet, look it up, and be informed. It has been almost 4 months this we lost Poncho and the pain and hurt is still here. I confronted the Imlay City Vet about the Titer test and they told me “The State doesn’t recognize the Titer Test”. OMG, they are more concerned about what the State of Michigan thinks than the health of our pets. The only thing they told me after asking about the Titer Test and how the Rabies booster destroyed his kidneys was, “He had weak kidneys”, unbelievable. No compassion, No responsibility for what happened to him. My wife has just learned of two more pet owners that lost their pet or had them harmed because of this Vet. One said the vet killed their pet but WE don’t know why yet and the other said that they took their dog in because it had a haze over its eyes. The Vet refused to see the dog and by the time they got him into another vet, he was blind. We do not need Vets like this taking care of our pets. Read Less

I honestly believe atmosphere is part of a pets healing process. That being said, my dog, two years old had a serious problem where her she started having acute kidney failure and was just sick in general. We dont know why, we keep our house very clean and make sure nothing can accidentally get into her reach it just happened. We took her to this vet and after 4-5 days she has not gotten better. It took them a while to do blood tests bc they did not have their own lab there and basically that place is just a holding center for pets. The young ppl that work there seem to hate their job and I definitely want ppl to care about animals to work there. We go in to transfer our dog to Blue Pearl in Southfield MI and when i get to the back, the places where they keep their patients looks like a prison cell. It looks miserable tbh. All the pets sleep on a cement floor with a very thin blanket. My dog, looks incredibly miserable and she looked very sick however got up and was wagging her tale when she saw us. (I haven't seen her in a week bc i go to school across state). I saw another dog in another cell shaking, laying down, miserable. I asked what happened and the nurse said she cut her paw... a dog shouldn't be a in a miserable looking prison cell when they're trying to recover... well, after we took her to Blue Pearl in southfield she was way more responsive and happier looking. We walked in, 4 docs where waiting for her and did tests immediately. They have their own lab and we got out ultrasound and blood tests back within an hour. We asked how she was going to sleep and they said they have their own blankets and pillows they clean and make sure it's comfortable for the pet. They're also 24/7. Blue Pearl was way more efficient and caring and that's what i want for my animals vet. When i left imlay city vet my dog was miserable and unhappy, after leaving BluePearl in southfield she was way more responsive, happier and in WAY better care. Also they were way more professional. I HIGHLY recommend them even if it's far drive bc the time is worth it for their care and professionalism. Tbh, we're never taking our Pet back to this one in imlay city. The care was bad, the atmosphere was bad, and the effectiveness to treat our dog was bad. I left this imlay city vet without hope and sadness... After, i left BluePearl in southfield with hope and a sense of security that my dog was going to be well taken care of. :) Read Less

Our 9 year old Choc Lab decided to eat a sock to keep our young Dalmatian from getting it! This happened during one of our recent Feb 2016 snow storms and also during funeral services for my father in law. I called the office and was treated with nothing less than respect and kindness. The Drs were trying to get to office , as we all were trying to get around during the storm. They used to be the best, years ago when real veterinarians ran the place. You know people that actually cared about the animals. I guess it really isn't fair for me to rate them since they wouldn't even take the time to see my dog ,which we thought might be dying. Dr, Atkinson is great, and my kitty does not make it easy for strangers to love him, but she is so patient and understanding with him, I won't take him anywhere else!

I have been using them as my vet for a long time and have spent thousands of dollars. My dog was in labor and unable to pass the pups. I called them 9-2-2014 at 9 am they told me there was no way they could see my dog, take her somewhere else. I was lost, but I called all the places and nobody would take her due to never being there and them being busy. Oxford vet. hospital took her in and helped get us into wilson vet hospital for a c-section. My dog and her 3 pups are doing great thanks to Oxford and wilson vet hospital. Read Less
