We brought our new puppy in to get a check up, flea medication, and to make sure she was up to date on all her shots. The vet and vet tech were friendly. However, the doctor barely looked at my pup and spent most of time lecturing me about socializing the dog (not what I came in for). She didn't look in my dog's ears, nose, mouth, or anything. They copied all my medical records I have for the dog. I even gave them a stool sample as requested. I asked them to set up a next appointment and to put her on a vaccination schedule. They said they'd call me (they never called me). Flash forward two weeks, my dog has a lump I'm concerned about and I call to set up an appointment to have her looked at. They had NO RECORD of us ever coming in!! We had filled out forms, had the records copied, given the stool sample, even paid with a debit card and they had no record of us coming in or even seeing my dog (or ME!)! After the shoddy check up my new pup was given, the lack of follow up, and then the mysterious vanishing of her records I would not recommend this hospital to anyone. Read Less

This is the best animal clinic ever! The vet is very excellent and kind, and all the staff are friendly, love animals (especially my dog!) and well-trained. I have been taking my dog there since he was 10 weeks old (he is now 8yrs) including for several surgeries - and he loves the place too! I also board him there when I travel, and he trots in without a 2nd thought of me - he loves the staff and seems to really enjoy himself. I highly recommend this animal clinic. Read Less

I started taking my cats here nearly 30 years ago when it was Benson Animal Hospital. The first cat I had lived 23 years under Dr. Joyce's care. She watched me and my cat grow up! My current cat is now 5 and doing great! Dr. Joyce, Teresa, & crew are amazing! I couldn't be more satisfied with the care my pets have recieved over the years. Don't even hesitate to come here. GO GO GO! I'm so grateful for the women here. My dog got attacked by another dog and had a pretty bad abscess that developed. This was my first time at Southside Animal Hospital. Dr. Joyce, Haley, and Teresa are AMAZING. They went above and beyond and I owe them my dogs life. They understood and didn't make me feel out of place when I came to visit him (every day might I add) for his 5 day stay there in the healing process. And while I wanted to take him home I knew he was in GREAT hands. If you need a vet go here. They honestly have a heart and want the best for your family member. In response to Chris I know what vet he is talking about- it's on the same street and is called Comprehensive Animal Hospital. I would NOT recommend bringing your animals THERE for reasons I am not at liberty to say but check his RECORDS ( I think you can check on better business bureau). However- Southside is great! They are honestly priced and have done loads of volunteer work (donating time, supplies, money, etc) to the Capital Area Humane Society, Ingham County Animal Control, and I know at least one dog rescue. They are people who really care for animals and are very caring individuals. Couldn't say enough positive things about them. :) Read Less

In response to Chris- there is no male vet, let alone a violent one at Southside. I was referred to Southside when another hospital didn't have time to see my cats they said, "Call Southside, they're nice over there". That was an understatement. They walked me through a tough diagnosis with my cat, dealt with my embarrassing tears over the diagnosis with such kindness and have helped me every step of the way since then. The vet tech even gave me her personal cell number to call if I ever had questions. I did call her, and she was amazingly helpful. It's clear that they care immensely and they have the knowledge to back it up. I couldn't recommend them more highly.Read Less

I met these amazing women through an acquaintance. At the time, I lived in Grand Rapids where Hudson's vet and other vets would not treat him because he had a mass in his stomach. He was a Husky, 11 1/2 years of age and I was beside myself. I had met the Southside team at a rescue event I tagged along to and brought Hudson to them not long after. They were the only ones that gave my boy a chance and with their knowledge, instruction and highest quality of care, Hudson lived comfortably for a year and a half beyond what he was given by other doctors. We were also recipients of the giving tree at Southside as well. When I was told that someone had donated $100 towards my boy, I could barely keep from collapsing. I was so humbled and awww struck by the kindness, compassion, and selflessness of someone so freely giving to aide my boy whom was sick. I was crying and could barely speak, asking dumb questions like, What? Really? Why would someone do that? Really? Who? How can I thank them? I surely will pay them back. And she told me that it didn't work that way. That if I was meant to know, I'd know. I love that Southside leaves their "Angel" tree up all year round. As emergencies and sick pets, arise all the time. I began to volunteer for the rescue because I was astounded with what they were doing. I also adopted my boy whom is now 5 years old, and continue to volunteer and try to give back an inkling of kindness and care I was shown. Not only is the team at Southside some of the best people I know, but they have changed my life and made me a better person knowing them and am inspired by the amazing work they do. I tried taking Zeppelin to a "local" vet in Grand Rapids, but was never really happy with their service. They didn't seem to know my boy the way Southside does. 65+ miles and a few gallons of gas is by far a small price to pay, for receiving PRICELESS care for my Zeppelin. knowing that they care, that they really take the time to know my boy,plus receiving the highest, quality care possible and he is happy to see them, even after a nail trim and a but pinch....
