Took my guinea pig today to see Dr. Sheehy. I recently purchased from a well known pet store 3 weeks ago and he stopped eating and drinking the past 6 days ago or so. Dr. Sheehy never discussed the reasons why he may have stopped eating, she only stated there could be many reasons. She left the exam room stating she would have an estimate for me. Ten minutes later the assistant came in and showed me a paper with a list of tests, injections, blood draws, food options etc. The total came to $401.00 I explained I couldn't afford all those things and the assistant said yes I understand. I chose the force feed food route only because I did my research online prior. I felt like Dr. Sheehy was very cold and did not go through any options with us and help decide what we could do and or try. Just sends in assistant with a enormous priced list of options in which she never went over with us. I came there hoping to get guidance and help from a vet for this very ill guinea pig we just purchased,but instead just felt she was all about the money. I learned more from online research than I did with the visit. I would never return here or would never ever recommend anyone to bring their pet here. The Vet was extremely rude and undermined everything I said. I've owned, raised, and successfully trained 5+ dogs and she looked at me once and treated me like a child. I'm 25 and have had Labrador Retrievers my entire life and she treated me like I'm some chump that just bought a puppy. Never went back. Extremely rude. And pushed products worse than Sephora. The staff is very friendly and nice to both humans and animals. My pets feel very welcome there. After all 3 of my dogs were examined yesterday I received a call today with all of their test results today from the doctor. All my questions were answered. Came here for a second opinion.  My parrot was being a little difficult when they were trying to weigh him because he was scared.  The Dr said she needed to get a box to transport him in.  I was horrified when she came back with a tall Tidy Cat litter box and actually threw my parrot in it and covered it with the lid.  Not ok and I will never be back. We were introduced to Dr Sheehy under less than ideal circumstances. My German Shepherd, Annie, ripped herself open, (about 10 inches) while playing outside. The staff was all amazing throughout that nightmare of a day and all through her post-op appointments. We will definitely be back! Read Less

All the staff at Sheehy Animal Hospital are professional and warm and caring people. They helped me see my aging Sheltie through the end few years of his life. He had health issues that became complex and together we planned to give him the best end of life care that was possible. My son brings his cat there and they are now seeing my new Sheltie puppy. The only vet my pets have ever known. When my kids were young we had cats who grew up, got old and have now crossed the rainbow bridge. Now my kids are grown and live on their own and I have 3 dogs that are 9 1/2, 8 and 2. Bo had been coming to Sheehy Animal Hospital since he was 5 months old. We found Diva when she was about 5, and got Harley when he was 1. They are all very well cared for. Bo ripped off one of his nails and was bleeding like crazy. I wrapped his foot up tight and took him over...they fit him right in. No problem, and no questions asked. Diva got injured on her face during some rough housing. I called and she was taken right in. She got her face sutured up. You can't see the scar unless you know were she was injured to begin with. What a great repair job! These ladies are wonderful! I brought my dog here because they were better equipped to handle him(Akita breed). He has cooperated with them more than anyone else. I found out about Sheehy Animal Hospital when I attended one of Tail Wagger's 1990's low cost vaccine clinics over the summer of 2011. I was so impressed by the staff and the doctor, that they would come in on the weekend and their day off and donate their time to help Tail Wagger's 1990 in a time of financial need. Not only were they nice and friendly but you could tell that they actually cared about my cat and were not ""just in it for the money"". A few months after the low cost vaccine clinic my cat, Smokey started acting different. I was concerned and remembered how great the staff at Sheehy was so I made the call and they fit me right in!! When I arrived, I was greeted with a warm and friendly smile, there was no wait time to see the doctor which was something I was pleased about. Dr. Sheehy took care of my sick cat and prescribed me with the proper medication. Smokey is now fine and doing well! I have been bringing my exotic pets to Dr. Sheehy and Sheehy Animal Hospital for more than 4 years and I have been extrememly satisfied with the doctor and her staff. It is nearly impossible to find a vet that will care for pet rats, and I have tried all of them within a 30 mile radius, yet I keep coming back to Dr. Sheehy because of the excellent care she and her staff provide. Most of my visits are not scheduled, but more of an urgent care situation and, unlike most vet offices, the staff and Dr. Sheehy are almost always able to make arrangements to see my sick pet within an hour or two. She has saved more than one of my pet rats from illness and injury. Dr. Sheehy has also performed surgery on several of my pet rats. All of them came through with flying colors and lived for a very long time afterwards. Also, all of my pets love Dr. Sheehy and all the members of her staff. My dog, Mandy, has been seen by three different vets and she was never happy when she had to go. On her first visit to Sheehy, she had to be taken in the back for a procedure. When she came back into the room, she was happy and relaxed (not like at any of the other vets) and she actually tried to follow Dr. Sheehy around the office for the remainder of the visit (not how she normally behaves with strangers). In my opinion, the most important part of owning an exotic pet is being educated and knowledgeable about your pet. It is your responsibility to know how to care for and transport it. If you know that your pet has special needs, you should provide for those needs and not expect someone else to do it for you. Read Less

We brought our pet bearded dragon to the hospital. We did not have any special means of transporting the animal but were told by the staff that wrapping him in a towel would be sufficient. When we arrived and were taken into a room we were not given any method for providing heat to our dragon. An ""emergency"" case came in and we were required to wait nearly two hours for treatment of our dragon. He was not provided with any kind of heating throughout the whole visit even when we were forced to wait and he was extremely stressed out by the actions of the vet and the techs. Bearded dragons are extremely susceptible to stress and need constant heat in the high 70s to low 80s range. The vets office prodded this dragon then left him stressed out with no heat for over an hour only to come back and stress him out some more. After the visit they did not try to calm the animal or provide warmth for it before the return trip home. We were told simply to take him home and it would be fine. After about ten minutes into the car ride home we realized that he was rigid and had stopped moving or breathing. We believe that the combination of loss of heat and the extreme stress placed on him caused him to go into shock. By the time we reached home his mouth was leaking the contents of his stomach and he was confirmed dead the next morning. This vet claimed that they were familiar with and capable of handling reptiles and other exotic pets. But by following their care and instructions regarding the transport and the handling of the pet during the visit our pet has now died. Our dragon was the favorite pet of our four year old who we now have to explain to why his pet is deceased. We have also come to find out that this vet has NO association with any membership body or association concerning reptiles. PLEASE DO NOT TAKE YOUR REPTILES TO THIS PLACE, THEY WILL NOT SURVIVE!
