I have had pets for the past 20 years of my life. Grand River has been by far the best vet we have ever used. Their compassion during the death of one of my pets was above and beyond in terms of comforting my family. IMO 3/5 (60%) is a reasonable assessment of GR veterinary hospital. I have had mixed encounters over the years, some 4/5 (80%), others 2/5 (40%). My last encounter ranked below the latter and left me searching for second opinions after my cat had not eaten for several days and was prescribed a pain medication which further reduced her appetite and left me without any diagnoses.... I am afraid that if i did not seek a second opinion, my cat would have continued to waste away and may not have recovered at all. Luckily for us both, I took her to Cascade Hospital for Animals (5/5) where she was diagnosed with Feline Vestibular Disease, treated with a steroid and anti nausea medicine and quickly regained her appetite and normal behavior! The staff at GR Vet are friendly but do not trust life / death decisions based on their opinion alone. Read Less

The vets and staff are very knowledgeable, compassionate, and helpful. They don't rush my nervous dog and they are willing to bunch appointments for my multiple critters - not an easy feat with 3 large dogs and 4 inside cats. Read Less

These wonderful doctors and their great staff have been our choice for pet care for almost 13 years. They go above and beyond to help, they are always willing to give advise and help. My family has no plans to move to a different practice. They have seen us through many hard times and good as well. They are always the first vets I recommend to anyone. Read Less

I recently took my 7 1/2 year old dog in to have two teeth removed on the advice of the Doctor. I received a voicemail from the doctor a few hours after dropping her off to call back. When I called I was informed that the teeth were fine and did not need to be pulled. I was also informed that a growth had been detected via x-ray prior to the procedure. After a brief discussion about the new found growth I was passed to the receptionist to get a price on the bill. I was somewhat sticker shocked when I heard that it was 75% of the estimate that included having the teeth removed. When I inquired as to why that was I was told " at least it's not the *original price quoted* you signed off on this morning." Not very professional. When I received a followup call the next day from the doctor we addressed my billing inquiry. The doctor explained the costs and the benefits of the dental procedure which had taken place and I acknowledge(d) that I signed off on the itemized bill that morning. Although I didn't agree 100% with the explanation, I understood and respected it. What I did not care much for is the fact that a term like "cutting corners" was used in an accusatory manner because I stated I was unable to sink thousands of dollars into my pet. Again, not very professional. Finally, I was told I would receive a followup call in a week about what to do next for the dog. Nearly two weeks went by without a call. When I called them and informed them I was switching vets and needed my dogs file and x-rays emailed to the new clinic no one asked why and I still didn't receive a follow up call. The only call I received was from my new Vet (a week later) telling me they never got my dogs x-rays or file. Again, not very professional. Read Less
