Patterson's has the best vets and vet techs... I have brought my animals there for years. Most recently my dogs, one of which is a puppy and the other, my older dog who had never been to a vet to my knowledge. Both of my boys were very comfortable. Also, my cats have been to the clinic several times. The last time I brought my oldest kitty, she was helped to transition over the rainbow bridge. The vet was awesome. Gave us privacy and time together, and was sincerely emotional when she transitioned. I won't go anywhere else. Read Less

My family has been taking my pets to Patterson's since before I was born. Doc Patterson was an amazing veterinarian, and the clinic continues to be excellent even after his retirement and a change of management. Dr. Kat took amazing care of my now 14 yr old dog who had suddenly lost all ability to walk. Thanks to the great care she made a full recovery. Dr. Gretchen has gone above and beyond taking care of my cat who had several teeth removed and is in the early stages of kidney disease. I had a list of questions and she typed out thorough answers and connected me with numerous resources so I could learn more about his condition. Excellent care! Read Less

I recommend Patterson's Vet Hospital in Mason MI to anyone. Very competitive with prices and the care they provide. My last visit, the Doctor at made sure things were set up before dealing with my cat. This cat will bite and scratch anyone. They did not try & make my cat conform to how they wanted her to behave. They cared for her in a way that showed their respect for her as an animal. I respect them for seeing her as an animal. I also believe the eye drops are helping! I don't see that her eye is as blood shed as it was. I also prayed and told the eye to be healed, so maybe Jesus is the one who actually is healing the eye. Either way, my hats off to Jesus, and to the care we get at Patterson's Vet Hospital! Thank you Read Less

It's not the same since Dr. Patterson left. They care less and are more money hungry. Several expensive visits that never healed my dogs issues-- and after 9 years of coming there with the same puggle, the vet told me "I'll teach you how to be a puggle owner". Well thanks. If only I could teach them how to remove sutures from my pitbull without taking 4 techs to hold him down and hurt him while they pry out the stitches. It wasn't an easy decision, but if I don't know how to own a puggle after 9 years of coming to you, then I reckon I should go elsewhere. Read Less

Let me start out by saying my pets have gone to Patterson's for their entire lives. But this formerly wonderful clinic has changed. I called this morning to request an appt for my elderly dog whose eye is swollen, gucky, red and he keeps it closed and is in pain. She told me that she couldn't get him in until next week. I asked if this was okay to let go until next week. She said I can always make an Urgent Care appt and they could get him in right away. Catch? $70.00 plus any needed meds. Seriously??? For a worried pet owner that felt like extortion. It is extortion and I'm done. So sorry Dr.s at the clinic. Greed is just a way of saying you don't care. I will find someone who does. This clinic is everything we hoped for with a vet. With three very old dogs, we have seen every DVM there in just 2 years. They have all been caring and practical with no pressure for expensive tests and yet they will do everything and anything you could want. And we especially love Jason and Kat because they were there to help us give the most peaceful and beautiful end to our old girl who had cancer. I will be forever grateful to this animal hospital. I would honestly give them zero stars if I could. Up until the point of my dog having surgery I was impressed. They seemed eager to help our dog and family. The vet who checked him out was amazing and I did love her! But once I got changed to the vet doing the surgery it all went down hill fast. Surgery seemed to be a success at first, but then when it did fail I was completely wrote off. The vet almost made joking remarks about my dog that offended me. Every time I expressed my concern for my dog and that the surgery didn't work it made me feel like I was an idiot. After six months of dealing with this we finally decided to try a new vet. He INSTANTLY knew what was wrong and what had happened to give my dog such health complications. Instead of making slights at my dog for being sensitive, he noticed that his knees pop in and out easily. NOTHING was once said about that ever at Patterson, but just comments about him being jumpy when the vet touch him. Ever since my dogs surgery he is terrified of his legs being groomed because they had to shave his leg for an IV and it breaks my heart. I had friends warn me that her friend had a similar situation. Everything was great up until surgery, but then everything crumbled and fell apart and their pet too was left in worse shape than before the surgery. Read Less

Stay away from Patterson veterinary clinic. Now that Dr. Patterson is retired and new owners have taken over they have raised all prices and basically using this place as a smaller msu clinic and using msu pricing. They sent out emails offering free dental exams for pets this month. I call to make an appointment and she tells me since my dog hasn't been there in a year I'd have to pay for a dental exam because the one they're giving for free is actually just a look in your dogs mouth. They wanted 149$ before any dental cleaning. They ruined a great vet clinic in my opinion. I'd suggest millers. Read Less

Dr.patterson saved my dogs life after Decon poisoning my dog almost died because during this time in my life I was bouncing from homeless to home. And I was broke with no ride and he was my first puppy and maybe8months old but i took him to patterson, I arrived after hours, and the bet tech herself came unlocked the door and immediately took my sick Romeo wrapped in blankets out of my arms as I was walking up the stairs crying like hell...Dr patterson himself came in after hours . from his home dressed in normal clothes smelling like cigarettes as if he just jumped up from relaxing after work just to help my dog, WOW....then Dr patterson talked to us, have my dog a shot, and didn't sugar coat anything. He told is Romeo may not live. And to expect anything.. But that he thought Romeo would make it. He also told us to feed him yogurt and hotdogs anything that could easily go down...and we told patterson we didn't have much money from the beginning..so he asked me how much I had. I told him 17$ he told me to keep the money and get gas in the car to get home, and yogurt for my dog. WOW. So incredible my experience. And he only billed me 42$ to saving my dogs life. What an incredible man! I'm so sad to see he sold the business. I hope it doesn't change...I love this man. He is a great man And so very hard to find someone who actually cares about helping your animal instead of only caring about your money and helping their wallet! Dr Patterson's veterinary clinic is a godsend. I just hope it stays that way now that Dr patterson has left...I highly recommend this place to everyone I know. But if it changes because of his retirement, I will be so sad to say it is just like every other vet hospital out here . greedy and money hungry. But the last time I went, only difference was the walk in changed. Which sucks. But I can definitely deal with it as long as every thing else and everyone else stays the same caring and putting the animals well being first! MSU is horrible and money hungry! I hate that place. WOW So so sad that people take up a career in helping and saving animals and then don't even stick to their original reasons and ideals . they get a little money and get blinded by the real reason they're doing this job. Sad. Read Less

Last year in the fall we took Major to Patterson Veterinary Hospital, Mason and he got a checkup and his rabies shot that is good for three years until 2018. No issues there. Levi took Major into the vet last night again for his yearly check up and a few shots he was due for. A rabies shot was not one of them. Apparently when Dr. Patterson retired and sold his business, they hired a bunch of idiots. My dog got a rabies shot again last night that is good for three years when he wasn't due for one til 2018 which we were charged for. I go up there tonight at 6 to see why he got an unnecessary shot & they are willing to refund us the money that we paid for the shot. That is good business. However, asking for the paperwork from last fall that shows you gave my dog a shot he did not need (to dispose of it and try to cover your asses) is not right. No thank you, I will take that paperwork back because I keep all of my vet records for my dog. Obviously I had a reason to keep everything so far and I'm glad I looked over what Levi brought home and caught that. Needless to say, Pattersons has permanently lost my business and we will never take another pet there.Read Less

This use to be a great reasonable place, but I just went there since dale patterson sold it. I was unimpressed with there new "walk-in" policy. The old way may of had its problems but was fair. Now you are and emergency cost and pay an extra $10. So $45 for the visit. It use to be that the techs would do 90-100% of the day to day walkin. Making more reasonable. But now they have the techs do paperwork and it's like being in the regular doctors office. The lady just came in read the paper in front of me again, why have the tech? I also use to like to see the prices of the over the counter medicine for my pet, but $150 later for stuff that was much cheaper before. I don't see myself driving down to come here any longer. I waisted gas and time today and will have to return tomorrow to get the poor dogs ears helped. I was just there a few weeks ago buying the dogs food. I wanted to share a person story about how  Patterson changed my dogs life, before i give a full review. I moved in with my fiance and he had a dog that was 3 years old and never moved. I had to force her to go out side once a day to use the bathroom. She was so fat. She hardly ate (less then 1 cup a day, and she wouldn't walk more then 1 house length. She's a lab and looked like a pot belly big! Her hair was thin and brittle, and no hair on the stomach and her tail was bald. Every vet kept telling us she was fine and that I should feed her green beans.  (fine?? the dog is 55lbs overweight!! hello, That's a small child!!). Needless to say, I took her to this vet. The first thing the vet said when she seen the dog visibly (I didn't even say anything) was "oh boy, looks like we had a thyroid problem" I almost cried. She did the blood work and my dogs thyroid was so low it didn't even register! 1 pill a day. That's it! One pill a day! my 3 year old dog lost 15lbs in 3 months! She walks a mile a day and begs for more! She runs and jumps and plays! I've never seen this side of her! Their vets are amazing! By all means if you notice something "odd" about your animal tell the Vet; however, most times - they know!If you have more then one pet this is the perfect vet. I have 2 large dogs and 2 cats. I wouldn't dare go anywhere else. (or I'd be broke)I drive 30 minutes to here but I DO NOT go broke, isn't that every animal lovers fear when their fur baby is sick??  I've noticed a couple reviews that said Patterson Veterinary Hospital is Chaotic, the wait time is forever, and there hours are weird. I think we can all agree time is money. If you don't have the time, you're going to pay the money. If you have the time...you can save some money. There are some nice little tricks to avoid this. 1.) Arrive early!! If they open at 10am I'm there at 9am!! If you come at opening I promise you - you will already have 30 people in front of you!2.) If your getting shots - say that! They are really awesome a Vet Tech can do that and you do not get charged an office visit! Call ahead make sure they have several Vet Techs available and you will be in and out in no time. 3.) If you have skiddish animals beware! Customers have no shame (and sometimes no manors). They technically have a kitty corner; however, I see people with dogs over there every time. If you have a cat that is never been around dogs this vet may not be worth it. It's loud dogs are everywhere and you may cause more stress to your furbaby then it is worth. 4.) If you're filling a script for your pet - call way ahead! Sometimes it takes an entire day to fill them. Yes, their hours are weird. But due to walk ins only they have to break them up to "catch up" so they have to take some breaks in the day. And the reason they can keep their prices low is not rocket science. Most vets do appointments I'm sure you can all relate (especially if you have cats or more then 1 animal) you can't always get to your appointment on time. I once took all 4 of my animals to the vet. It took me an hour to get them all in the car!! In point, because they can see people with no "down time",  late appt, or cancellations they are utilizing their time wisely and can charge less. Again, Time is money! You have to decided what is more important to you, your time or your money. Read Less

We have been taking our pets to Dr. Patterson's office for nearly 50 years. My parents started taking our animals to Dr. Patterson when I was young and I'm 58 now. All of our family uses Patterson's for our veterinary services and we are multiple pets families. Patterson's will refer you to MSU if they are not able to do what your pet needs, such as an ultrasound for my dogs shoulder, or a cardiologist for my sister's cat. Anyone that thinks that Patterson's is parochial about their patients hasn't become very familiar with the vets there. They are patient, helpful, and caring and knowledgable about many different animals. I've even taken a goat to them. I would recommend Patterson's to anyone, and have to many. By the way, for those who think the hours are wierd, Patterson's office is essentially open all day M-W, 10 until 8. They stop taking patients in at noon and 3 to catch up because it's a first come, first serve office. They are also open 10 til 3 on Fridays with a lunch break 12-1, and open Thursday and Saturday mornings. That doesn't sound wierd to me. It sounds like they are trying to provide the best care for the most people for a reasonable cost as opposed to most vets that charge outrageously, by appointment so they can get one patient to cover most of their expenses. We left this practice 5 years ago.  The place is CHAOS. I've never had a visit with less than a 2 hour wait, even for routine vaccinations.  They don't take appointments, so it's like waiting in purgatory.  When we took our sick 8 week old puppy in, they just tested it for Parvo (it was positive) and asked whether we wanted them to just put it down!??!!  It seems very much like an assembly line.  Our new vet actually examines our pets prior to vaccinating them. I recently rescued an abandoned kitten from my yard and was looking for an inexpensive place to have her seen. I had to take her back two days after the initial visit because the vet missed the mites in her ears but I wasn't charged for another visit just for the medicine they used to treat the ear mites.I've formulated a list of guidelines to follow for a successful visit to Patterson1. Call in advance for the hours of the day.  They are weird and don't take appointments.2. Arrive 30 min before they open, it will save you at least an hour wait in the long run.3. Try and have an idea of what might be wrong with your pet and ask alot of questions.  They are in a hurry and can miss things, like ear mites.4. If you are just going in for shots ask for the Vet Tech.  They do not charge you for an office visit if you can be seen by a Vet Tech.5. If you are returning because of an issue with your pet they missed during a recent visit, let the person doing the intake know.  Sometime they will put you in the recheck line and you will not be charge to see the vet.The staff and vet are very friendly and the people in the giant waiting room always chatty. Be prepared for a wide variety of animals in the waiting room.  Patterson's is very affordable and quirky but worth the trip to Mason. Read Less

We became owners of a puppy who as all pups are is very adventurous. One morning when I let her out, I turned my back for a moment and Abby had run out into the street. She got hit by a pick-up truck and she was able to crawl back to our yard. I called around a couple of places and finally decided to try Patterson's after hearing about them for years. As soon as we got there, they put us in a room away from the other animals to keep Abby calm. Dr. Gill did his initial assessment to make sure it wasn't life-threatening and then attended other patients. We waited for a very long time (2 hours) but I still say it was worth it. They had to put her to sleep to take an x-ray and told us she had a broken hip. We could spend the next few years worth of Christmas money to have surgery or we could try immobilization. We tried immobilization for about 2 months and Abby recovered. We took her back in for a follow-up x-ray and had to immobilize her a little longer. Abby hasn't been back in yet to find out if she is all the way healed but she has been her active self. I am so thankful that the total cost was about $140 and that they were available when we needed them. When I noticed that Abby still appeared to be in pain after getting her home, I called and talked to Dr. Patterson to see if I could up her pain meds. He asked what she was taking, I told him, and he said yes. It was nice to be able to talk to the vet and not have to be placed on hold while the receptionist asked the vet. If you take your pet in, be prepared to wait with several other pets and owners and be aware that not all animals can be sociable. I have to take another dog in and also take Abby in to get spayed/neutered and am looking forward to another positive experience with Patterson. Read Less

My family has taken their dogs to Patterson's for years. They have always been friendly and accommodating. That being said, we never had to treat any serious ailments or had to get any type of surgery for one of our pets. I took one of my own dogs in because of a small lump that developed on his chest. I did not receive any real diagnosis of the lump, but a vet eyed it up and said it might be an infected hair follicle. A few months later the mass had increased in size and on a second visit it was diagnosed as a tumor. I scheduled surgery through Patterson's immediately. I went to pick my dog up after surgery, where he had been recovering for around 6 hours or so after waking up from anesthesia. The first thing I noticed was that he was still incredibly unaware, clumsy, and lethargic as if he had received way too much sedative. The other thing was that his incision looked as if it had been stitched by a 10 year old using some hefty thick rope. It looked like someone performed an emergency field surgery, not a professional operation inside of a clinic. Two days later half the stitched busted open, leaving my dog with a large gaping wound which appeared infected. I took him back in to get looked at and I was told that sometimes stitches wont hold and that I should let it air out, then I was sent home. This was a friday and by saturday all the stitches were out and the whole wound was open and infected. I rushed my dog to Waverly Veterinary Hospital and the Vet there was amazing, very professional and she took my dog in right away for emergency surgery (which she did herself) she called me multiple times to update me on his progress and ask me questions. I picked him up a couple hours after he woke from surgery and he was alert and ready to go. His wound was stitched so well that you couldnt even see that he had an operation, you could only see his shaved fur. It is a long story but that experience has told me that Patterson's is a fine place to take your dog in for its routine shots and immunizations, or for a condition that is very minor. But if there is absolutely anything serious wrong with your animal, or if your animal is suffering from a condition that is at all mysterious, its best that you take it to a professional animal hospital. You get what you pay for. Read Less

Patterson's vet is a great vet to go to for routine things. Shots and spays/neuters, heartworm medication and worming. The cost is really almost nothing compared to other vets, and the staff is friendly and obviously loves animals very much. However, the waits are long. Long long. There are no appointments, and people are attracted by the cost- Patterson's is popular. The hours of operation are also weird, it's best to call ahead before you need to go to make sure they'll be open. If in doubt, every weekday they are open 10:00am-12:00noon. Anything else is kind of a crap shoot and varies from day to day. Don't go on a Monday morning unless you're okay with waiting two hours. They aren't open on the weekends, so everybody comes in at once. Also, don't expect to get called in the order you arrived. Emergencies go ahead of you, as do things like post-spay/neuter check-ups. Don't complain. Everybody in there has had to wait while other people cut ahead of them. And if your pet is seriously ill, if something is wrong that isn't simple- you should probably go somewhere else. I'm not saying Patterson's is bad, but this is a little country practice. X-rays are only a hundred dollars a pop- but there is no ultrasound machine, and they are going to give you the simplest, cheapest solution first. They aren't diagnosticians, they aren't up on the latest in veterinary medicine. But they will charge you a pittance for shots and medication, and remember your name and ask about your kids at home. They are very nice, and they do what they do for as close to free as any vet I've ever seen. Read Less

First I would like to say, I wouldn't listen to a review from anybody, knowing that the person giving the review is the competition. Of course the review will be negative, it's from the competition! So here is my review, based on my personal experiences with Dr. Patterson & his staff... I would not take ANY of my animals to anybody other than Patterson Veterinary Clinic. I have been taking my pets to Dr. Patterson for years, and my animals and myself, are treated absolutely wonderful every time we are there. And, 2 of our pets are still with us today, because of Dr. Patterson. The staff has NEVER been anything but polite to my entire family and all of our pets. We have NEVER been overcharged. My pets have NEVER been misdiagnosed. My pets have NEVER had unnescessary testing done to them. We have NEVER been rushed. Every vet in the building will spend as much time as needed/required with your pet and you. We have NEVER left Dr. Patterson's office feeling confused or boggled. Because he makes sure all of your questions are answered, and that you completely understand the current situation before you leave his office. Dr. Patterson's prices are way beyond affordable and reasonable. He has waived office fee's for us many times if we had something else to pay for, such as a prescription, etc.. Dr. Patterson's staff will send you email reminders if it's nearing time for vaccinations, or surgeries. Which is very helpful, especially if you work alot or have other things going on, like I do. Hours vary, but the evening hours are great if you work days. Yes Dr. Patterson's office is a ""first come first serve"" set-up, and yes, emergencies will get handled first. Just like at a hospital emergency room. Sometimes the wait can be lengthly, but I would rather wait patiently then to take my animals to another vet. I would recommend Dr. Patterson to ANYBODY looking for a good veterinarian. You will be very satisfied at the service you & your pets recieve. Read Less

Read Less

Read Less

To Ariana I am not the competition Dr. Patterson is great his staff is questionable at best, he has several people at his counter that should NEVER have a job dealing with the public they are rude and unqualified to to any job! The staff was much better before the unfortunate loss of Mrs. Patterson she was fantastic. Dr. Patterson fills a void that no other vet in the area can or will. He supplies a low cost and reasonable service so those who normally wouldn't take proper care of their animals can afford the expense. Read Less

I went to Dr Patterson office and saw Dr Gill...my dog had a fever of 105.7...I had them do blood test...he said my dog had bacteria infection and treated him for that gave him 2 shots, and 2 different meds...went back couple days later, he gave me another med to give my dog...my dog still had the 105 temp, went back again another few days later, my dog still had temp of 105, did xray and was told bacteria infection and peritontis. Gave him another few shots and more stronger pills. A week later, my dog still having 105 temp I went to patterson office, got all the records and went to MSU Vet hospital. Within the first 5 minutes, using only the information from Patterson's office, they instantly said that my dog had a severe liver disease/possible cancer. 2 days later my dog had passed. i was told that antibiotics can make liver disease worse. I WILL NEVER GO BACK TO THEM AGAIN. THEY HAD ALL THE INFORMATION RIGHT IN FRONT OF THEM AND THEY DID NOTHING, BUT TAKE MY MONEY AND LET MY DOG GET SICKER AND SICKER. I am not a vet I trusted them, but never again!!!! Read Less

The best prices around, loving, friendly, and aren't afraid to give advice over the phone...UNLIKE other offices which are pining for an office call in their pocket every time. Always calls promptly when after hour messages left on their machine. The wait can be long. But has always been worth it. I recently moved 65 miles away and still make the trip with both my dogs. I do this because of service AND prices. I hope they never change the way they do business. No complaints and lots of referrals from my standpoint. You can't go wrong** Read Less

Read Less

I have been taking my dog to this office for just over five years now. She's seen three different vets there. All of them were good. My dogs had vaccinations, teeth cleaning/extractions, a growth removed, evaluation of torn ligaments and surgery referral through this office. The way this vet works is a first come first serve basis - kind of like a redi-care for animals. You can request a specific vetrinarian or see the first available. I generally see Dr Di'Silva because my dog does better with women. The prices are very reasonable- probably the best that you are going to find. Office hours vary so make sure you call before you go there. Many days 8-10am 1-3pm and 6-8pm but some days are different. When I move, I will miss going to this office Read Less
