The ladies in the office are kind and caring, Dr. Brandt on the other hand is a very condescending and disrespectful fool who treated me terribly. Something was very wrong with my Dog so I took her there to be seen. I was sent home with antibiotics and told to call him in 2 days if she wasn't better. We called him several times over the next 2 days as her condition worsened and were told to keep calling back with updates. After 2 days of this and us feeling like we were about to lose our dog we took her to an emergency clinic where they immediately performed surgery because they said she wouldn't make it through the night. We then took her back to River Valley for 3 days of post op monitoring. I was told Brandt wanted to talk to me, I assumed to give me the run down of what they were going to do for my dog. When I walked into the room he proceeded to lay in to about an outstanding bill I had for $42 and began drilling me about where I got $2000 to pay a different vet for the procedure. If he had done his homework before he started running off at the mouth and calling me a liar he would have seen that my bill had already been paid. I have never been treated or talked to by anyone the way that babbling idiot talked to me. Needless to say I immediately removed my dog from his care and took her to Roseland Animal Clinic where I was treated phenomenally. I would not recommend River Valley to anyone. I've been taking my dog to River Valley every since she was a puppy. She's 7 years old now. Great place! I had an emergency and had to leave my dog overnight and the Dr let me check in on her as often as I wanted to, which made me feel good. Today I had to take her in for surgery and again was allowed to check in on my dog as much as I wanted to. I'll never take my dog anywhere else. She's in good hands whenever she comes here. I started taking my senior dog to RVC about 4 years ago. I've been very satisfied with his care, they have not cashed in on unnecessary procedures, keeping in mind his age. Recently, though, I've had to put him on rimadyl for arthritis and such. They used generic which is fine, but didn't disclose this, the label says rimadyl-g. They also charged me brand name price. I could have saved money on the rimadyl website program. Now they're charging me $15.00 to "transfer" my RX to mail order! Very disappointing. Guess can't have it all. Read Less

River Valley in Niles treated us and our puppy Kayla in the worst way today. After her dying during recovery, we went to pick her (and our other puppy) up. We waited at the counter for 5 minutes ---my daughter and I both crying and 3 women behind there not helping a customer --- When they waited on us and came back up front I was handed JoJo and Kayla was in a box. They were shocked I was upset that she was just being passed over the counter in a box as if she was a piece of mail. Then we were told there were not any rooms available so we could wait in our car for someone to come out and talk to us. Roger took her to the back of the truck to wrap her in a blanket. What he found was beyond horrific! The box was too small for her, he had to rip it down at the corners to get her out. She was on a dirty towel with her own feces and had feces all over her rear. They didn't even clean her up. To add insult to injury, the clerk walked out after Roger threw their box back in the office and asked if we still wanted to talk to someone. When I told her no I didn't want to talk to any of their fricken Drs she said 'oh my God you guys are being so unreasonable'. Then told us 'I didn't kill your dog'!! Huh, really??? She's lucky I was holding JoJo or she would have had her glasses and smirk taken right off her face! After taking JoJo to another vet this afternoon to make sure he was fine since I pulled him early we were told that any surgery for a dog of her breed was extremely high risk. Gee thanks River Valley, your vet tech never bothered to mention that when I asked her specifically what we should know or watch for with a short snout breed!!! I used to hear great things about Dr Brandt......maybe he used to be good but his 'all vet tech' assembly line is terrible and your staff is so insensitive! I wish I could rate with 0 stars!!!!! I had to drive my cat here in an emergency at 2am, and Dr. Brandt answered his phone and jumped out of bed to help us. He didn't ask for any money, and even offered help in case we ran out of gas trying to find an open gas station. When picking my cat up a few days later, the staff were very very kind. They accepted any form of payment necessary, and even let me set up a payment plan for the remaining balance. These people are very compassionate and caring. They really enjoy what they do, and it shows in the way they treat you, and especially your pet. Read Less

Been going to a nearby clinic since i was little and as much as I've appreciated them they don't even compare to Dr. Brandt! My mare was sick for weeks and would get better, then worse and finally we took her to Dr. Brandt who took us in at the last minute. After 3 days of staying at the clinic she was eating again and was on her way to recovery that was 4 months ago now and we/she have never looked back! The doctors are great here. We got a puppy who had worms and somehow they gave her intestinal problems. They had to operate on her twice to remove all of her obstructions, but she did well after that. I highly recommend the quality of treatment from everyone here. Read Less

Have been going to this vet for a few years and while I like the staff and the care my animals received, for the past 6 months I can never get an appointment unless it literally weeks out. When you have a sick animal you shouldn't have to wait weeks. The only suggestion they gave me was to come in as and "emergency" so I can pay them more money for the same treatment. My pookie sue (doggie) who just turned 1 on 11/16/13 suddenly became ill. I got home at 4:30am from work and she didnt meet me at the door. I knew something wasnt right and have stayed up all morning watching her when her tongue stuck out and her breathing slowed I knew I needed a vet and on top of it all the roads are icy with snow and its Sunday in Niles. I call this vet after looking up a vet on yp see the review call and am told that he os closed on sunday. my heart sunk and I am scared I am losing my dear companion when the lady asked is this a emergency and I said yes I was told to hold and the vet gets on the phone I tell what symptoms is happening and he says how far are you from the office? I said I am about 4miles. He responds be here in 15 mins. I was and I say how much do I need to get to get her in and he says I am not worried about payment cost I need to care for pookies well being first. I was already stressed over her well being but I knew right then that my beloved pookie was in good hands. I had to pay my last vet 1589.00 up front before they would help and I paid it but because care wasnt giving immediately because they were worried about money I lost her that day. 3hrs. and 1,589 later I went home and baried her. so today I wait patiently about pookie but even so I know pookie is in safe caring hands and everything seems less stress.
