I can’t thank this place enough for their kindness towards people and animals alike! The staff was absolutely incredible. My little Frito needed emergency help not once but twice and if I could do it all over I would’ve gone to this place first no questions asked! Brandi the technician was warm-hearted and caring towards my struggling 8week(ish) old kitten. She was understanding, patient, and took her time listening to my concerns. I had a really good feeling about her as soon as she began interacting with Frito; he seemed to respond well to her even while struggling which helped ease my mind. Dr. Martin Kamen was also just as professional and kind. He showed genuine interest and concern for Frito’s health and he was confident in what the next steps would be to get him the help he needed. This doctor took his time explaining the possible outcomes of testing/treatments to my level of understanding which really helped me feel better about allowing them to begin treatment. I was notified via texts throughout the day from the technician regarding Frito’s progress. I received a detailed explanation regarding costs for various testing and treatment which I found to be reasonable. There were no surprises at discharge time; instructions for at home care were clear, I received a full detailed report of the case experience, and the cost was reasonable. I felt as if Frito received excellent care from an expert team!! I’m happy to report that my little Frito is on the mend and it’s all thanks to this special team. Great job Blue Pearl. Thank you again Read Less

This place is amazing. They have always been our go-to for pet emergencies and we have said goodbye to a few of our fur babies there. They have always been so caring and compassionate. More recently, they have been an excellent care team for our cat who was diagnosed with cancer, among other things. They are transparent and caring. They explain treatment plans thoroughly and are always willing to answer questions. Dr. Barry-Heffernan and her team are truly something special. This place is not always pet oriented or customer oriented. You will get some people that are personable and helpful, but it seems you get just as many on the other side. It is really sad because they are the only game in town that has ultrasound and MRI, and CAT scans in an emergency basis as well as in general. But some of the managers and employees can be insensitive and difficult, at a time when you are trying to help your dog. The littlest logical disagreement or opposing logical opinion can set them off like I'm there to serve them and take care of them. Immature in a lot of ways, and incapable of being compassionate and understanding of someone's pet that is sick. Some of these people I really don't think have a heart. It is extremely difficult if not impossible at times when your pet is suffering and then you have to deal with someone that is an idiot but believes they are special. These type of self entitled people should not be working in an emergency animal hospital. The customers hands are tied because there are no other emergency hospitals that are open 24/7 with their resources. If I was dealing with someone else's animal and I couldn't give them 100% of everything I had, I would go look for other work.....because I wouldn't be able to sleep at night. I would not suggest anyone not go there because of the equipment they have, and they do have some good doctors. A lot of times for the sake of your animal, it is a good idea to have these tests done for their well being (ultrasound, cat scan, MRI), but it would be nice if Blue Pearl would hire less combative, always in the right, difficult to deal with people, when others that have animals that are sick and suffering, or possibly dying, don't have to deal with their very high maintenance personalities. They have customer relations but they don't do anything. There is a problem form the CEO down. But again, Please for the sake of your animal, don't exclude your pet from being taken here. The equipment they have could definitely be useful in saving your pets life or stopping their suffering, because of the information these machines can give. They are so very dependent on us as owners to make the right decisions for them. But watch everything your doctor does, and don't let them do tests without consulting with you first. Read Less

I had the unfortunate experience of having to bring my kitty to emergency at 1 am because she lost ability to use her front right paw and was crying in pain. The doctor on call called me while I waited in car ( thanks to covid protocol) and said he doesn’t see a blood clot but will have cardiology take a look in the morning. I was sent home and waited . I got a call from cardiologist 9 hours later stating there is a blood clot but not caused by heart issues but suspect a tumor. He let me know that the critical care doctor would take over and call me in a few hours. She called me with news that was devastating. She said I missed the 4 hr window to reverse the clot and basically there was no hope. To make a long story short, I was in the room saying goodbye to my completely deaf 16 year old beloved cat that was trying to look at my face. I pulled my mask down to kiss her and comfort her one last time. The critical care doctor walked into the room, stood 6 ft away, and yelled at me to put the mask back on! This was my last memory of my beloved cat at Blue Pearl. I just don’t want anyone else to have to feel like this. Zero true empathy here!!! Read Less

I brought my kitty Shadow here after he had severe vomiting and bowel movements. All of the care specialists were concerned and helpful. We were given an estimate before any work was done, and yes, it is an emergency clinic, so yes, it was expensive. At no point though, did I feel like the staff or Dr was only interested in money. Dr. Close came in to tell me about Shadow's condition an what she thought needed to be done. Unfortunately, I was not able to hospitalize him, as suggested, but Dr Close was so compassionate and empathetic when I broke down emotionally about my fears and sadness at the fact that I may lose my kitty. She listened and soothed my heart by telling me that I don't have to lose my kitty, but what to look for in his actions to let me know when he is ready. She was amazing! Shadow is still hanging on, and I am so thankful for the care, compassion, and peace.of mind that I received from the Blue Pearl staff. Read Less

I spent just under $2000 for the surgery (not to mention almost $200 just to do a consultation). 3 days after the surgery his tear gland came out and I spent an additional $80 for new eye drops, and was recommended to keep his original 2 week follow up appointment with the vet who did his surgery. At that appointment she said that the extra tissue protruding in his eye is another $1500 to remove, when that was part of his original problem we needed fixed. My dog Abby started throwing up blood. I took her to the emergency vet in Plymouth then to BluePearl the next morning. We were there for 3 hours for them to tell me that she had pancreatitis. They wanted to treat her pain and fluids. Of course no treatment would be started until they got their money. I left my baby there for them to start her treatment. I will never forget the mournful look she gave me as they led her away. That afternoon she became less responsive. The staff did not think anything of it. That night I visited with her she could not even walk. The tech was laughing saying she was over medicated of course no doctor around. The tech just kept giggling that she was doped up. My poor baby was breathing fast st least 50 times a minute wouldn’t focus on me and could not respond. The vet called later saying she had fluid on her lungs. In the morning i talked to a useless tech who said Abby was not in pain. The vet called and said she was worried. When I arrived Abby was in a coma completely unresponsive. The vet saying she thought Abby had had a stroke or something. Not offering any treatment or other suggestions. Abby wa breathing fast unresponsive and suffering. I chose to put down my 3 year old dog because I couldn’t stand to see her struggle and suffer. Never again. Never will I ever use this vet or recommend anyone go there all the kind words will never bring my baby back I walked in with a dog not feeling ell and walked out 3000 dollars later with a box of ashes. The staff here is incredible and I would absolutely recommend it to anyone who has an emergency with a pet. They saved my baby’s life. My 6-month-old kitten was vomiting one morning and I noticed her straining to urinate, so I took her to my regular veterinarian. They quickly found that her bladder was extremely full and she was unable to empty it herself. They tried to help her relieve herself but were unsuccessful, and the X-ray didn’t give them much information. Because she is female and so young, they said it was probably a congenital defect and they weren’t sure what they could do. No answers. After going over some options, they suggested euthanasia, taking her to a clinic to have her bladder drained under sedation to buy time, ultrasound (which could provide answers, but no treatment, or taking her to an emergency clinic. They were not optimistic! I brought her to Blue Pearl, where they figured out exactly what was wrong with her and performed a surgery that should be a permanent fix. The next day, she got to come home with us. Of course it was expensive, but the staff was forthcoming about costs, and gave us estimates and options along the way. I received calls every day she was there, and they let us call to check on her at any time or come up to see her. I felt at ease while she was there because I could tell they genuinely love and care about the wellbeing of animals. If you’re looking for a place to bring your pet, Blue Pearl is an excellent facility with an incredibly empathetic and compassionate staff. Thank you for saving my kitten! Read Less

Avoid! Read the reviews on this place and other emergency vet facilities. BIG difference. IMO and in my experience they are all about taking your money and taking advantage of your grief and love for your pet. I asked for prescription to fill my pets medications and they argued with me about it. Their RX charge 5x as much vs my filling at pharmacy or online. They didn't want to give me a script after I already spent thousands on a pet that has very poor prognosis. As pet owners we need to save $$ where possible so our money can go to actual treatment, not getting raped on medication costs. I asked to have certain tests done a few days later so not a weekend charge at 2x the already high cost. Nope! Wouldn't do it! Thankfully I found a wonderful vet practice that would - and that wrote me prescriptions so when - if - I refill the meds I won't waste my money paying 5x the cost. It's true what our people posted - they do try to guilt trip you if you don't agree to tests being done at the very high "after hours" fee - tests that could wait a couple days to be done during regular business hours at their regular rates. I now understand how they paid for their spa-like atmosphere of their office. I prefer a clean, not fancy but professional looking clinic where the staff actually cares about the pets and their caretakers and try to keep costs reasonable so we can do our best for our fur babies. I'd give ZERO stars if I could. Read Less

He had a long list of health problems and the doctor and staff were extremely careful with him, as he was very sick and old. My cat did pass a week after his hospital stay, but the doctor did communicate to me that it could happen soon. I greatly appreciated her honestly and gentle demeanor. She made everything a lot easier. I also would like to give credit to the tech or assistant named Theresa. I've taken 4 different dogs to Blue Pearl over the last 10 years. Each time has been an emergency, and stressful for me and the dogs. Each time, we were provided with options and excellent service. Yes, owning a dog can be expensive if you have an injury or illness. Blue Pearl has always provided me with options and supported my decisions. My greyhound had a massive cut on his haunch. He was treated immediately. Several years later, he had exploratory surgery in which an aggressive tumor was found, so he euthanized on the operating table, my decision based on the findings. Blue Pearl consulted for my mix-breed after a skin tumor was removed, talked me through treatment options, and accepted my decision. I rely on Blue Pearl to give my dogs the best care available, and will continue to do so. Anything medical that is done for humans to animals is expensive. It breaks down if you got the money or not to take care of it. They were supportive. Showed us much love and compassion for our loss. Even helped us figure out our best options. Even when you call around, i have found they are all the same price. They even sent a sympathy card and the staff that night signed it. Don't take your pets here. They treat them like a DOLLAR SIGN--nothing more! I had a German Shepherd, "Samson" who was being treated for Allergies (spent over $4,000 on the allergy test alone and additional on the shots every 21 days). I also had a previous dog that I took to them (their oncology department). The oncologist wanted to do Chemotherapy and Radiation and remove part of the dog's rib cage (telling me the dog would have to be "kenneled" to keep her quiet the rest of her life). They actually "RECOMMENDED" this as a course of treatment!!!! They told me (shamed me actually) into saying that the dog would only live another 3 months without treatment. Wow, were they wrong!! She lived 3 more healthy years!! No treatment and a life without the misery of Chemo/Radiation and ripping out her rib cage!! Now my last dog "Samson" was on allergy medication. I ordered a refill for him on one week and when I didn't pick it up the next week they called me. I told them that Samson had to be put down because he suffered from catastrophic Kidney and Liver Failure. The technician said "I'll make a note on the chart!" No, "I'm sorry to hear that", nothing...I complained (in person) a couple weeks later to the clinic manager and he listened and said it shouldn't have happened that way. It was a mistake. I asked why my comments were deleted from their website. He said he'd look into it. Still no response and that was over a year ago. There was never a card or an "I'm sorry for your loss" on behalf of that clinic or it's sorry excuse for a clinic manager. Absolutely inexcusable. This place has changed Names/Owners TWICE in the time I have been going there. Not a good sign. They're going in, turning a quick $$ and running away with the money!! Read Less

OVER-CHARGE and they look at the WORST CASE SCENARIO to MAKE MORE MONEY! Tammy the vet tech was the only good thing about this place. I have an 11 week puppy and she puked several times in the evening. I know I was being overly cautious by bringing her to the emergency Vet but wanted to make sure everything was ok. Tammy the vet tech was very nice and very friendly. When she was evaluated the Vet wanted to do X-rays (Which is understandable) and test her Blood. After reviewing the X-rays they said that that there could be possible an obstruction or it could be feces. Either way we would like to have her stay overnight ($1458) and possible emergency surgery ($4560). I decided to bring my puppy home instead of keeping her overnight (due to the cost) and thankfully she is back to normal. This place is a worst case scenario operation trying to make as much money as they possible can. I am a pharmacist and it just seemed a bit overdone. Tammy the Vet Tech was great though!

Read Less

KEEP YOUR PETS AWAY! MOST HORRIFYING EXPERIENCE!!! I have a 9 month old puppy who went into surgery for scrolled catilage and extra tissue in the eye.

Read Less

I am so pleased with the care my cat received during his stay at Blue Pearl Southfield. She helped discharge my cat and was so sweet and caring, even knowing her for a few minutes she made me feel a lot better about the whole situation. Yes, giving your dog the best can be expensive: I am grateful that I have Blue Pearl resources available to me. Read Less

They may be pricey but the service was exceptional. They took my ill dog in immediately. They were straight up with how much it would of been. I could never afford it. So i had to decide the worse. I highly recommend them. But be prepared if you got the money to pay to do surgery then put it out there. If not then take a different route. I want to thank them for being there that night.

I will NOT be bringing my puppy back here ever. P Read Less
