Sadly, we will no longer be returning to Dworkis after a horrible experience regarding our kitty, Jack.We had noticed Jack had a swollen cheek, and made an appointment to get him in to the office. Having great experience with Dr. K in past office visits, we called and scheduled an appointment. Unfortunately she was not at the office that day, so we met with another doctor. She examined our little Jack, and told us that he had an abcessed tooth, and would need to have a dental cleaning and extraction. We said goodbye, and left our little boy. Little did we know that'd be the last time we saw him alive.Vet called a few hours later, telling me that Jack's kidney counts were high, but that he should be ok. I had no idea what that meant, and I told her that, so when I asked if he'd be ok to go under, she reassured he should be fine, and that he needed the dental cleaning. I started thinking about it, and decided to Google "cat, kidney, anesthesia", and everything I found said not to have a cat go under anesthesia if there is a kidney issue. But obviously she wouldn't push us to do it if it would be deadly, right? She called me post surgery and told me that he was not waking from his anesthesia, and that we should have him tested for FeLuk. He had been tested when we adopted him, and our other cat is FeLuk negative, so I knew he was negative, but she pushed us to get the test ("if he is positive, he will give it to your other cat, you need him tested"). Of course the results came back negative.A few more hours passed. He still was not waking up. I called back every hour for a status report, no news. Finally, around 8pm Doctor calls back and tells us that he is bleeding out, still unconscious, and that we need to get him a blood transfusion, and schedule a transport to an emergency vet (at least 2k for price range). I called my husband, crying, asking what we should do. If it would save him, we would do anything, regardless of cost. I called back and drilled her on if a transfusion would actually save him. After going round in circles, she finally told me that it the transfusion would only give him blood that he lost, but his kidneys were already shut down, so it wouldn't change the fact that he had gone into renal failure. I made the decision to have him euthanized, and my husband and I headed up. He was already gone by the time I arrived at the office. When I asked how this could have happened, she told me it was our fault for not getting him in for yearly dental cleaning. Thanks a lot. Before leaving, we were handed the bill, including all of the extra upcharges for FeLuk screening, additional anesthesia, and office visits, and literally for nothing but our dead little boy to show.I'm angry that Dr. pushed us to have additional procedures done, especially when it would not have done anything to better his quality of life. If she had known that the surgery risks were that high, why couldn't she have told us? We never would have put our baby through all of that suffering. It just seemed like adding extra charges, knowing a family in duress would pay, was the bottom line, and not the comfort of our pet.I'm sure I'm overreacting, but the point is, my baby is dead, and we will never be returning to Dworkis. It's too bad, because we really loved our experience with the other vet, but I can't support an office that clearly didn't have a patient's best interest in mind. Read Less
