I left a Google review of 3 stars and found it funny that I got an almost immediate response. These people are price gougers. And if you scroll through the reviews, you will see several people who feel the same way as I do, and the responses from these people are all the same. "You pay a little more for better quality care....." blah blah blah. They are trained to say that. It's complete BS. Absolutely GORGEOUS facility and sky high prices. I paid 330 dollars just to talk with the vet and have them look at my dogs ear culture, which I had to swab myself. The meds they prescribed were twice as expensive as they should have been. They charged me 94 dollars for Apoquel 16mg, 28 tabs. And they charged me over 70 dollars for Mometamax ear suspension, 30 grams. None of the prices for any of this were discussed with me before I was handed the bill. But I did get the scripted and rehearsed song and dance about how they have to charge more than the pet store or an online site like Chewy because they can't buy in bulk. Blah blah blah.... and yeah, I get it. I could have handed the meds right back to them and asked for written prescriptions to cut my cost. But at that point, I was already there for almost an hour and a half and I just wanted my dog to have her medicine. I felt so stupid by the time I got home because of how much money I spent and how I just swallowed down all of their BS about how my dog needs to have hypoallergenic prescription food. The vet herself wasn't even friendly. She didn't even crack a smile. The front desk was less than accommodating. I walked in with my dog on time for our appointment and was told "we'll be right with you". Meanwhile I just sat there and waited for someone to check us in or sign us in or something. 4 ladies behind that counter and only one was on the phone. The rest paid no mind to me at all. The vet tech had to come out and ask me who I was and what my dogs name was. This place is awful. Don't take your pets here. There are better alternatives. Read Less

No attempt was made at all to contact me despite the response from the review. Dr Hawker is fantastic, on the other hand the other staff is less than wonderful. This Veterinary Clinic prioritizes profits above necessity when it comes to caring for your animal. I have been taking my dog to this vet since he was a puppy and they even used him in their advertisements without my permission, so they are very familiar with him. We took him there for training classes and after he passed all the supervised classes which are more expensive, they released him to the open daycare. After his first session of open daycare in which they placed him with two other intact dogs while knowing he is intact, they stated that he would need another supervised session. The trainer told me that the other dogs back him into a corner and he barked at them and they would not leave him alone. In self defense he knocked them to the ground and ran away. She stated that this behavior was unacceptable and it would need to be corrected it through costlier supervised sessions despite the fact that their ineptitude was the root of the issue. When I took took him in because he had eaten a shoe they pushed blood work on me for $190 and stated that it was a highly recommended. When the blood work came back completely normal, Dr Corbett then stated that blood work was usually normal for puppies and she was not surprised. As a result of these exploitative practices, I will never again take my pet to this business. Read Less

I never write reviews, so just the fact that I'm doing it says a lot. We've been going to Union Lake Vet Hospital for over 2 years and we just recently got our 3rd dog. We had to go to a different vet for our puppy's initial check-up. I did not feel comfortable after leaving the first vet, so I made an appointment here for her because I trust Union Lake. Vet #1 told me that the missing patches of fur were nothing and I should just give the puppy a bath. Union Lake took the time to thoroughly check our baby, listen to my concerns, and take multiple scrapes. At the end, they found mites. Nothing dramatic, but I left knowing that my fur baby was alright and in good care. We've seen multiple doctors here and all of them are friendly and professional. You can tell that you're not just a paying customer to them, but your pet's health is as important to them as it is to you! They might be a little bit pricier than other vets in the area, but to me it's well worth it! Keep up the good work guys! Read Less

Horrible experience. I brought my kitten to Union Lake Veterinary because it was moaning and pressing its belly to the ground, and appeared to be in pain - from what I could tell. They told me that she "probably" had a urinary tract infection and gave her an antibiotic shot and sent me home with 3 days of liquid narcotics, and charged me $150 for the visit. A few weeks later, the same behavior starts up again, so I started reading up on it. Apparently, the kitten is in heat. When I called the vets office to let them know, they stated that being in heat and a urinary tract infection can appear to be the same thing?? and that a spay costs $300??? Also, sorry, no compensation for the misdiagnosis - we don't feel that we misdiagnosed based on what you told us! I guess if you want some prescription narcotics, just bring in a kitten in heat BECAUSE THEY DON'T KNOW THE DIFFERENCE! I will never go there again. I strongly urge you to read other reviews. I have read some pretty disturbing things about this vets office. Read Less

Took my two cats here today for the first time, following their amazing vet Dr Jenna Corbett from her previous Clinic, and everyone there was fantastic! I believe her name was Courtney I'm so sorry if I got that wrong but she was so wonderful with my cats and giving them their vaccinations and interacting with them Especially since one of mine can be quite skittish. As always Dr Jenna Corbett was just a dream and I cannot say enough nice things about her and this Veterinary Hospital. In regards to price, I have paid more and I have paid less either way I feel if it's your animals welfare it's worth it or don't get animals. Either way a great place great doctor will absolutely be back for any of my pets needs! Read Less

I had forgoten why I don't use this vet. I'm clearly reminded today! Having many dogs throughout the years, I have yet to find a Great vet that is worth my loyalty. Called today because my Lab is sick and they charge $125. For a Non Client! You would think they would want to earn my business, guess not! Also, one of my customers said they charge $125. for same day, so basically they take serious advantage of You if your dog is sick or injured. I have only used the grooming service here for my 3 dogs, but Amy is fantastic. Each time she has made the dogs look beautiful. Amy does what you ask - I don’t want the feathering cut, and so she only trims what is necessary. My large border collie/retriever mix gets matted fur, especially when she sheds, but she hates being groomed. Amy keeps her calm so she’s not stressed, only beautiful, when I collect her. This visit, my Australian cattle dog hadn’t properly started shedding yet, but was a puff of floating fur if you touched her. Amy successfully removed all her winter coat and now we can pet her and breathe at the same time! The staff are friendly and helpful. The grooming is done in a timely manner and for the quality of the grooming the prices are fair. Read Less

I just wanted to share how much Dr. E. Hawker has changed our lives! We have a very fearful and reactive dog and many vets did understand her. We felt isolated and judged everywhere we went, they labeled our dog aggressive and put bright stickers on her chart and would make comments on her poor behavior. We had been working on reactivity with a trainer in one-on-one sessions and she suggested Dr. Hawker. We went to Union Lake Vet Hospital ( over 45 min drive for us!). Let me tell you how much this experience is worth the drive! Our dog will never go anywhere else! Dr. Hawker is kind, gentle, and understands reactive souls. Her patience and knowledge in animal behavior is remarkable! We were able to get a fantastic combination of training, medications, and sensory therapies that have made our pup the happiest and most comfortable she has ever been! Previous vets would force a muzzle on her and use physical restraint to complete medical treatment. Multiple occasions she was so scared she would pee! This past annual vet visit was the first where our dog didn't even bark when Dr. Hawker entered the exam room. She let her listen to her with the stethoscope, touch her paws and examine her lips. She even let her take a little peek at her teeth and in her ears too! Once we got to the bloodwork portion, Our dog was so excited when she saw the muzzle (we have been doing muzzle training) shoved her face into her muzzle excited and more than willing to cooperate knowing great treats were coming! She let the tech draw the sample with only the turn of her head!! Dr. Hawker has truly made going to the vet as stress free for us as possible. Her and the rest of the team at Union Lake are so understanding of her special needs, they dont make us feel like outcasts and dont force our dog into uncomfortable things! We wait in our car before the appointments, and enter through a side door and go right into a room! No waiting in a stressful lobby with other people or animals, Offering a huge variety of special high value treats throughout the appointment, blankets on the floor, Adaptil pheromone plug ins, and dog calming music in the rooms to drown out any other noises occurring outside the room. Also, seeing how much outreach and volunteering she does is so wonderful! She genuinely cares about us as if we were family. She is the absolute BEST!! Goes above and beyond her call of duty! We are so thankful! Read Less

Union Lake has been our vet for almost 15 years now. Dr. Reynolds is the best! She is patient, caring, knowledgeable and goes above and beyond to care for our pets. Dr. Hawker is our second favorite - she answers every question we throw her way and always has great suggestions and ideas to improve pet quality of life. All of the staff is friendly and professional - they always greet us with a smile. I knew that I would never go anywhere else when we recently lost our most beloved pet and everyone I encountered at the office offered their condolences. When I picked up his ashes, they didn’t just hand them to me from behind the counter, the woman (I wish I had asked her name!) came around the counter, handed them to me and offered her condolences. Our baby Benny was a 14 1/2 year old chow. He was an awesome little puppy. As he got older, his health started to deteriorate and he eventually, he got to the point that all pet lovers hate. His last day of life, he woke up but couldn't stand up and that was when we knew that it was time. I called my vet as well as many other pet care facilities and nobody would help us. They said "you need to make an appointment ". Union Lake Veterinary Hospital, with out hesitation, said "bring him in, we'll get him in" and when we got there, they had a room waiting. This was amazing to me because I have never been there before, but they treated us like we were loyal, long term clients. I thank them so much for helping us in this extremely difficult situation. I will probably go to them for all of my pet needs from now on. The whole staff was caring, friendly, and couldn't have been more helpful. Read Less

We tried several vets in the lakes area before coming to ULVH. We have multiple cats, and until recently, had dogs as well. We've always received excellent care from the vets and technicians at ULVH, and they were compassionate and kind when we unexpectedly lost two of our pets on two consecutive days. They're also great at staying on top of records and upcoming needs, unlike some of the other vets we've seen. Dr. Herdon and Dr. Erb are especially wonderful with our cats, and Dr. Marti and Dr. Anchill have been fantastic as well. We are extremely appreciative of the fact that their hours accommodate work schedules with evening and weekend hours. They're very good about getting us in quickly for any urgent issues and referring to specialists to make sure our pets receive the best care. The office staff are equally great. Read Less

I brought my cat here when she had a cold. Just sneezing and a fever. The doctors insisted on x-rays and extensive testing costing over $500, finally sending her home with antibiotics. I brought my other cat in for an injured paw, the doctor did not even look at the paw or touch him and brought me a bill for over $700 to "test all possible reasons" when his paw was obviously bit, not broken or otherwise damaged. The whole time she was insensitive to my scared cat, speaking very loudly right next to him. No one even looked at his paw! Union Lake Veterinary Hospital has amazing and caring Doctors, however the staff lacks friendliness and is not willing to assist Rescues. They state they work with Dog Rescues before you make an appointment but after arriving they say you must contact a manager that does not work weekends to apply. The manager of course does not return emails or phone calls. She was finally reached the following Monday and refused to work with our 501c3 rescue because it was only 1 dog in need and they need to make a profit so we would need to guarantee more dogs to be seen by them. This is absolutely disgusting to learn a vet we trusted for years with our personal dogs is so money hungry they can't assist a rescue who sole purpose is to save lives and is funded by donations. I've stayed there longer than I should have due to their convenient hours and because I finally liked and trusted Dr. Herdon (they have 10+ Dr's). Other than that its been one thing after another. My dog has a chronic recurring problem and they were unwilling to work with us to get him on some medicine while I waited the week or so to get in with Dr. Herdon. The reason I went all the way down to 1 star was because of the disrespect from Dr. Pline (the owner). While waiting to check out I was standing in the waiting room with my dog sitting at my side, on a leash when another customer was afraid to walk past him to the exam room. Granted she had a little dog and my dog is a 100 lb Rottweiler but he has been trained by the best trainer in the area and normally doesn't even need a leash. He responds to all commands verbally and by hand gesture. Anyways, as i stood there in control of my dog Dr Pline walked up without saying a word and grabbed my dogs collar so the lady could walk the 5' behind my dog to get to the exam room. I don't know if he was shaming the breed or implying that because I own a Rottweiler that I must not be a good owner or some other reason but i felt very insulted. Read Less

I am only reviewing the underwater treadmill services at Union Lake Veterinary Hospital. My dog had lost a lot of muscle mass, and it was recommended that I take her to the underwater treadmill. This was the first one in Michigan. Her therapy was twice/week for eight weeks. I could have dropped her off and returned, but because I had driven quite a way to get there, I stayed to do her therapy with her. The therapists seemed to be well trained with the treadmill, and with working with dogs in general. So how does this work? The dog goes into an enclosure, then the water is added slowly. The treadmill starts, and the dog simply walks on the incline. I stood at the front of the treadmill, and encouraged my dog and fed her treats. She loved going "swimming" with the "doctors."The therapist told me that she wasn't really a doctor. I told her, "My dog doesn't know that." My dog loved her regular vet as much as her breeder, so it was a good enticement to tell her that she was going to visit the "doctors."After the session, my dog got a toweling off and a blowdry so that she wouldn't have to go home wet.My dog became much stronger as a result of the therapy. This place gets my endorsement. I highly recommend underwater therapy for dogs with weak legs, wherever you might be able to do it. (There are more locations in Michigan nowadays.) Give it a try if you want your dog to regain its strength. Read Less

Read Less

Called today because my Lab is sick and they charge $125. For a Non Client! You would think they would want to earn my business, guess not!

Read Less

Read Less

Love the hospital staff & doctors, but not a fan of boarding and daycare. The hospital/vet deserves five stars, but boarding/daycare....not so much. Read Less

I would highly recommend Union Lake Vet Hospital. Our dog behaviorist recommended Dr. Erica Hawker to work with our dog, Gino on his anxiety issues. We were immediately impressed with the clinic from the friendliness and professionalism of the staff to the cleanliness of the facility. They even have a separate entrance for animals with fear/anxiety issues. Dr. Hawker treated Gino like he was her own. We have never been to a Vet who spent that much time with our dog, explaining our course of treatment and answering all of our questions. She followed up our visit with a detailed email and even sends messages asking how he is doing. She truly cares about her patients. We drive about 30 minutes to get to the clinic but I wouldn't consider going anywhere else. Read Less

I am one of those 'spoil my pet rotten' kind of people and I only want the absolute best for my boxer. He can be a bit of a challenge to handle so it is important that I take him to a place that is as good with him as I am. Here at Union Lake Vet I have never been disappointed. They are quick getting us into a room, extremely thorough with his exams and have treated my dog and myself with only the most exceptional, positive service. I would recommend this facility to any one.

Read Less
