I stumbled back upon this page while trying to find an emergency vet for my friend's ferret. I didn't even think twice about sending her here after my experience with my pup. I took him in with a possible UTI, and just with a urine test they diagnosed him with a kidney disease. First of all, after missing the doctor's call, I called back and he was too busy to talk to me and passed me onto a staff member who admitted she didn't understand what he was saying. He did not call me back to talk to me himself, and I was instead referred to a urologist. When we went to our urologist appointment, the doctor was confused why we were sent in on such a serious note. My pup had protein in his urine which can happen to puppies, and we were told after two tests that he DID NOT have a kidney disease and everything was spot on. I ended up spending over $300 because of their mistake, and worrying myself sick that my pup was ill. Even before this visit, I did not feel comfortable or welcomed at this office. They always made my preferences feel like burdens. My pup even seemed uncomfortable and panicky when we would go here (he does not act this way at his new office). I am forever grateful to the ENTIRE staff. After my own Vet turned me away due to ‘no open appointment until blah,blah’. I found this place on line, called and got in. Even though the prognosis was not good - you handled my dogs(Spike) death with what I felt was sensitivity and kindness. There will be a forever hole in my household and in my heart, but he is no longer suffering. We brought our Australian Shepard puppy here because it’s close and was recommended as an emergency hospital. We took her in for flees (which they said she didn’t have but my daughter actually saw them) and vaccinations. Each visit I brought her in the exam room and they took her through to an area behind that without me. I thought that was really odd. Then her eye was scratched by a cat on a Saturday afternoon. We called to see if we could bring her in but they said the vet ...was in surgery and referred us to an emergency clinic in Plymouth. She had to have stitches and of course the “cone”. We took her back to Westland after 4 days for an exam. They said to bring her back to remove the stitches and cone in three weeks. After that time we were all looking forward to getting back to normal. It was a really tough three weeks on all of us. My daughter and I both took time off work to bring her there and we had a snow storm that day. They took her in an exam room WITHOUT us then the female vet came into the waiting room to tell us she couldn’t remove the stitches and we needed to go back to the doctor that did the surgery. Since she didn’t she didn’t know what the problem was. I was really irritated and asked her “aren’t you a vet?” She just kept saying she didn’t do the surgery as if I don’t know that. We drove through that storm back the the emergency vet in Plymouth and they took great care of her. Its surely is a relief that there are vets open late. I called quite a few places to get my dog in and the best they could do was just about a day later. This place is awesome, a great place to take your pets! The staff is always super friendly, even if they are busy and the Dr's. are really knowledgeable and treat their patients and their fur babies with so much care. I've had 2 of my pets pass at home and I called them as they were their patients. They showed so much compassion to me and my family, even talking to my then 4 year old and making her feel better about what had happened to her dog. This is such a great place to take your pets to if they are sick or need a check up ! Cheerful and friendly office staff that will do their best to get you in either the day of or next day depending on there schedule . Very knowledgeable , caring and friendly Drs , vet techs & assistants and staff ! I was just recently there with my dog Jack , they took very good care of him I will be switching my other 2 pups here as well ! I am so disappointed with hospital. My yorkie had surgery to have bladder stones removed on Monday. On Tuesday night he was in so much pain and i called them and they told me to bring him back. Took him back and the doctor took his temp and said bring him back in the morning (Wednesday). Took him back and he was there from 10:00 am till 8:00 pm. As soon as i get him home he wanted to go outside to use it. I Let him out and he immediately had projectile bleeding from the rectu...m. Called the clinic back and was told the doctor is gone and they cant call no doctor to give me any guidance but this is suppose to be an emergency hospital that stays open till 12 midnight. Why the hell are you and advertising to be an emergecy facility when no doctor even available. I have spent $2000 just to my yorkie in extreme misery since taking him to Westland. I have a Mastiff who was having an allergic reaction and called my vet and they were closed and the call agent suggested this location as they have great hours! The staff was so kind on the phone and when I got to the clinic they were so good to my dog! The dr came in and within minutes he was treating her and today she is doing much better! Took me and my dad's dog peanut there last night. He is really sick and I want to thank Christine for being so caring and helpful!! The doctor we saw which I don't remember his name was very rude and pretty much told me that he could do nothing unless I pay which I said I would but my dad is 83 and on a fixed income! He spent about 3 minutes with my dog and hardly checked him out. Again Christine was very kind and took her time with the dog and explained everything with me. So again thank you Christine! Been taking my dogs and cats here for over 20 years and have never been disapointed. From checkups to ear and urinary infections to cancer lump removals they have been compassionate and resonably priced. They were very caring and kind to my pup♡ Very very sweet staff members and they were able to get him in and out in 30 minutes even with a double ear infection cleaning and medicating, gave me meds and taught me the proper procedure on how to administer them, and a nail trim. Took my new puppy in for an examination. Dr. Sarrah was right on top of all the new dog issues. After sending me homemwith worming medication they followed up the next day, with more info on my puppy. The vet and staff is thorough and professional. The doctors and staff are great my animals feel comfortable with everyone except the female vet. My female dog gets excited when we pull up there because she is going to see her friends. My only issue is in the name it says it’s a hospital but they are not available for emergencies and are not equipped for delivering puppies/kittens so if needed the people your pet are used to and feel comfortable with are not the ones you take them to if needed so now they have the stress of strangers on top of the labor and delivery. Other then that I would recommend this vet and will continue to take my fur babies to see them. Read Less

I hate to write bad reviews but I must agree with Jessica above. My cat was hurting and seemed to have eye issues and I took him in. The guy vet came in and was poking the cats eyes with a device and it wasnt even turned on and he was reading how to use it. I could clearly see it was off and finally told him STOP pushing on his eyes. He said the cat was blind and i stood 7 feet back and slowly pointed up without any wind or noise and he followed. He still ignored it. Its like i was teaching him. Then they took blood and called back and said he was fine. Knowing he wasn't i took him to another vet that i used in Canton when i lived there. He said no the cats not fine his Thyroid is very high! He gave me a cream to put in his ear and i was able to enjoy another 5 months with him. Bottom line is animals are like humans to most people. A car is one thing but using the guy vet who clearly isn't a vet is ruining your business. Read all about him. The women is nice but is really busy and seems to care. Unless they clear this up, your animal might end up killed by malpractice. Sorry its the truth. Read Less

The Staff at Westland are WONDERFUL! Stacey, Dawn, Renee and Meghan are wonderful ladies and helped me and my daughter through a very tough night with their compassionate and caring attitudes. They even called me the next day to check on us. The house dog is great also. Now for the vet. Dr. Khara, he should NEVER be able to touch another animal in his life, he is the most uncaring and AWFUL man I have ever seen. He does not have a compassionate bone in his body and I actually think he was afraid of my 10 year old dying cat. I will never step foot in that place again! Having a great staff is one thing, but if the doctor SucKS, well that is a whole other issue. Please Do not take your fur baby to this place. Read Less

I'm giving three stars because they treated me and my dog well when she was sick, and Dr. Srao is very compassionate, especially in telling us about our dog's cancer and our options. They also took decent care of our cat. She needed dental cleaning, and here is the reason for 3 stars. They sent us home with special dental food , and said it would keep her teeth healthy but little did I know it was exorbitant in price, $40 for 7lbs! When I found it cheaper at another store, the store said they needed a script from my vet. I called Westland Veteinary, and the receptionist says they will not write a script for food they sell. So basically they sent this sample of expensive food home, which of course my cat loved, and are forcing me to buy it from them only. If you're going to do that, Westland Vetrinery, then offer competitive prices. That was a low move. I will be looking for another vet.Read Less

This place is TERRIBLE. Took my rott in because she collapsed and couldn't walk. They examined her and determined due to her age that the best avenue was to put her down. The vet and the entire staff was HORRIBLE. They were cold and uncaring. The vet insisted on sedating her and doing a second exam even though we said no. After that they begun the process of putting her down. They started the process and insisted we go pay the 500.00 before they would finish. After that they couldn't find a vein to finish the process. They terrorized my whole family and dying dog. They tried for an hour to get a vein and finally said they were going to inject her in the heart but told us we had to leave the room. We had to go stand out in the waiting room with all of the other animals and pet owners. About 20 minutes later they called us back in and left us alone in the room with her. She was bleeding from her mouth. Blood was just dripping from it. They didn't clean it or her up before letting us back in to see her and I have NO IDEA what they ended up doing to my poor sweet girl. If this review stops one person from taking their animal there I'll be happy. PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE do not take your pets there. PLEASE. Read Less

I was able to bring my pup in for tape worms just yesterday Sunday, she's feeling much better now. The vet was very nice. The staff were great with us. Its a bit of a drive for me but i plan on staying with this clinic. Nice clean friendly place! I only paid $59 and my pup got a shot. A pill. And Frontline plus a physical plus a puppy kit. took my precious, sick dog in for a comfortable passing but, they tortured her to death! It was heartbreaking to watch. First they insisted on putting a catheter in a vein to inject the sedative and the putting down meds which was totally unnecessary and painful for my poor dog. They couldn't find a vein. Why if ur going to inject a sedative in her vein why not just do it instead of trying several times to find a vein for a damn catheter? When u find it u should give the sedative ASAP especially when they r in pain and uncomfortable! And the torture didn't end there. I won't go into the almost 10 minutes of torture she had to endure before she went out but please beware if thinking of taking ur animals here. I really wish I had read all of the reviews on here before I took my kitten in last night because his eye looked infected. This was my first time having to take him to a vet and since it was late at night this was the only place close and open. The girl assistants were very nice but when they took his temp they used a thermometer way to big for the size of my tiny kitten. I had to cover my eyes and ears because he was crying so loud. The doctor came in and told me they used the wrong thermometer and then took his temp again with the right one and the thermometer had blood on it when he removed it. The doctor tried telling me he needed deworming medication and I refused it because I was almost positive he had already been treated for that before I adopted him. The doctor told me most places just say they do and they aren't legally allowed to without a doctor. I called the place where I adopted him and he was treated multiple times for worms and it was negative. It was a horrible experience and I won't be coming back. Read Less

I brought my precious chihuahua in she was very sick. Unfortunately, it was too late and Pinky passed away but the Doctor and staff were excellent in making the efforts to save her. Westland used to be great back when I worked there, but now that they've gone through replacing people it's gotten worse. I still like most of the staff there, but when one of the front desk people is rude and to me somewhat incompetent and can't even give the right explanation of what's going on with your pet, you definitely shouldn't be in the veterinary field. If I could give less than 1 star I would. Took my dog in because he's been getting weaker and losing a lot of weight (clearly something was seriously wrong). The doctor chalked it up to anxiety and depression (my dad recently passed away) and put him on an anxiety med. Those meds have since been tossed in the trash and we have gone to another vet clinic that has treated an infection that they missed and to a specialist that is treating him for what is hopefully pneumonia and not something cancerous. I will spend any amount of money I need to to make sure my dog is ok and taken care of. But I will definitely will not be returning here with him or any future pets, because the initial diagnosis of "anxiety" and saying "oh, he'll probably be ok, he just needs time" caused me to lose my best friend.Read Less

I'm generally very pleased with my dog's stay, but unfortunately this time she came back with a cold. I had noticed it when I had picked her up, but just thought that she was happy to see me. A couple of days afterwards, I called but was assured it was due to her being excited every time she went for a walk. I can't thank the doctors and staff enough for helping us through our emergency with our dog. We were seen promptly and thoroughly the day our dog was injured. Dr. Parviz answered all my questions and called me back when I had more questions. He was very thorough and made it clear he was only in our dogs best interest. And he truly was. Dr. Sarao went out of her way to get us scheduled for surgery as soon as possible. She sent over the X-rays to the surgeons for us, and made the front office staff aware of who we were and when we would be coming in, along with detailed directions to the facility. Again, I can't thank everyone for there kindness and care. I only wish every vet office would strive to present the same amount of kindness and care as the staff and doctors at Westland Veterinary Hospital has shown us. We are truly blessed.Read Less
