When my silkie rooster, Willow's, toe became infected and would not heal with home care (in fact, it started dying), I looked on google for bird vets, and that was where I found Cedar Creek Vet and Dr. Nolan. We called in, and set an appointment (even though the office is quite the drive). Dr. Nolan was very kind and handled Willow gently, and worked with us so that my chicken would gain a little health before we amputated his toes (the affliction had already spread to his other toe as well by the very first vet visit). When it was found out that we were going on vacation with some out of state family members right after the amputation date, he did bloodwork on the second vet visit (I got to see them draw his blood, it was very cool!) and we put it off until after just in case something could go wrong during healing (always a chance for that with surgery). This past Friday, the third vet visit, Willow had his two toes amputated (big middle toes on both feet). The surgery was quick (a relief seeing as you never know how an animal will react under anesthetic) and Dr. Nolan called me as soon as it was done and even called later and updated me on how my boy was doing (apparently everyone at the clinic loved Willow ). We got to pick him up the same day! Willow is feeling much better and walking better than when he had the nasty, painful toes. His incisions are stitched up very well and you can tell there was a lot of care put into it (he made sure to amputate All of the infected parts, as well as stitch up the incisions so they aren't irritated a lot). The wounds seem to be healing up very well. Willow no longer seems so reluctant to walk. He is learning how to balance and is holding up like a champ. It's honestly really impressive, he's such a trooper. You can tell that his toes being removed really was a relief for him. Dr. Nolan did a wonderful job and I am so so grateful! The entirety of the experience was such a contrast to the experiences I had in the past with another vet I took my old silkie rooster (now deceased) to. It's such a relief and I feel very reassured.Read Less
