If you like horrible follow up communication, this is the place for you. Have taken my dog here for over a year, been fine up until last Saturday. He was sick, and they determined he needed lab tests. Cultures couldn’t be sent out until Monday, but was told “you should here back 2-3 days after that.” The FOLLOWING MONDAY I called them since I didn’t hear anything.......”yep we got the results this past Saturday, he has a virus.” When asked why I wasn’t called: “the Dr. that saw you is out until Tuesday, she’ll call you then.” Tuesday came and went, no call. And yes, they confirmed my correct phone number. Needless to say, I stopped the unnecessary antibiotics they gave me since it wasn’t bacterial, but it sure would have been nice to hear back from them. I won’t be going back.... Read Less

We took our lab to this clinic for a check up, vaccine, and blood work for heartworm and lymes. The staff and Dr. were all very pleasant and knowledgeable. The staff is awesome! I brought my cat in for what I thought might be UTI. Staff made sure he was fine without need for expensive test. Also gave me great info about stress related urinary problems in cats. Then only charged me for a wellness visit! I would recommend them for all your pet needs! Read Less

My first visit with my cat, was very reassuring. I had my cat neutered at another vet clinic and they did a less than profession job...The staff at Rum River assured me that he was now in very knowledgeable and caring hands. They did everything to make sure my pet was comfortable and happy during his checkup! The staff was very friendly and I enjoyed the experience. I did not give them 5 stars because when I called to book the appointment the receptionist put me on hold for over 5 minutes with no checking in. Dare I say, they had fun at a vet-who knew!The ladies up front, the vet and vet tech were very friendly and gave the kitties compliments. We had to bring our fur baby Riley here last night after his health took a dramatic turn for the worst. We unfortunately, after being given a lot of advice and varying scenarios, made the heart wrenching decision to have him put to sleep. I went in for an emergency visit because my regular vet didn't have any openings. Whole experience was great from talking on the phone and making the appointment to care we received from all of the staff. The exam was thorough, and she did a great job explaining everything to us, and most importantly our dog is better! We are switching to this clinic permanently no question. Read Less

Everyone was so friendly! Dr Larson was amazing and took her time with us. She did a great job answering all my questions. Didn't pressure me to do anything I didn't want done, but provided me with all the information I needed to make my own decision. I would recommend them to everyone! What a friendly group of animal people. I made an appointment on short notice. Upon arrival the receptionist welcomed the cats by name before us which I thought was great. They explained processes in a way that was very logical and precise. A few days after the appointment they even got a welcome card. I highly recommend Rum River! Read Less

I just had our cat Smokey seen the first time here and we were very pleased with how they treated him because he is very sick and they spent a good amount of time with us and did the appropriate testing needed. Plus we were surprised that they had a blanket down on the table. Another vet we use to see only had metal tables with nothing down on it and prices were ridiculous and very loud inside and very rude vets that I think are in for the money and not caring for the animals. Rum River veterinarian is all for the animals plus they have a cat by the name of Chester that lives there and checks out the Patients in the rooms vet Drs and I will call them nurses that come to take weight they say Chester is nosey and a little sassy. But he is just trying to keep other animals comfortable while they are there. We will be sticking with this Rum River veterinarian for good. Thank you all that helped in the care of Smokey. You will see us again in the future or sooner if Smokey does not get better in a couple of days to do those xrays and blood work like we talked about. I was highly disappointed when I brought my sick puppy in to be seen. She was playing in the yard and got a hold of a rabbit. Needless to say she ended up with tape worms. I brought in a fecal sample that the office supposedly tested. The vet told me that she was fine, and that they were going to treat her for three different types of worms just to be safe. I was sure that I saw tapeworm when she went to the bathroom. So I insisted that they go back and check it again. And what do you know, she did have tapeworm! So not only did they misdiagnosed her, but they were going to charge me for 3 different types of antibiotics that she didn't need. They also needed to give her a rabies shot, so they took her from me out of the room, brought her to some back room and supposedly gave her the shot there. All very very shady! I recently returned to Rum River Vet after a number of years as I inherited a toy poodle. Initially I took her to a closer vet for convince however after a few bad visits I quickly realized the few extra miles are worth it! Every visit has been excellent. I always walk out well informed, educated and comfortable with medical plans. I realize not every visit can be 100% smooth but I know the staff have Katie's best interest at heart. From April 1996- May 2009, my mixture tabby, Harley went here. They were with hin when he took his last breath. I miss my boy, but he was so well cared for here. From July 2000- October 2013, my sweet chocolate lab, Hannah went here. Hannah loved coming here. She loved the vets, she loved meeting new friends. They were always so happy to see Hannah. My parents, my sister and I were all there, on October 26th, when a rare tumor on Hannah's abdomen burst. She had to be put down. 12.5 amazing years with the most incredible dog. The staff felt for us. She wasn't just another dog to them. They knew and loved Hannah. They made pawprint plasters for us and mailed a touching note. We are so grateful to everyone at Rum River. In my 20+ years of owning pets, I have never been to a vet who gives free check ups...unless it's something like post surgery follow up. I've lived in upstate NY and moved to MN 3 years ago and it's been the same in both states. In fact, check up appointments are significantly cheaper here in MN than in NY. How is the vet supposed to make money? Just through the markup of the medications, vaccines and products they sell? It's a business...not a charity.Having said that, I've been taking my dog to Rum River for 3 years now and have never had a problem. They are great about getting him in on short notice if need be and the staff has always been very pleasant. Even my dog loves them and what dog loves going to the vet?We've had services done ranging from dental surgery/cleanings to tumor removal to vaccinations and routine check ups. They have always been very thorough and explained things well. They even call up afterward to check to see how he's doing.I'd recommend Rum River to anyone looking for a vet.
