Great staff who truly care about your pets well being. I will say that more often than not you will be waiting in the lobby past your appointment time but I'm guessing that's because they never rush their patients out of the exam and make sure all your questions are answered. They also accommodate animals with waiting room jitters by allowing them to wait in the car with their owners until the vet is ready to see them. I compete in obedience and agility with my dogs. Training and showing is a full time hobby and my dogs are canine athletes. I shopped for a new vet when my last clinic was sold to a national chain. Most of my dog savvy friends (breeders and fellow trainers) whom I asked said they go to Inver Grove Heights Animal Hospital. I was training with one of the owners at the time too (Dr. Ann Winsor). I switched to their clinic about 6 years ago and could not be happier. We bring both our dogs to IGH Animal Hospital, even though we live in Minneapolis. Dr. Ann Windsor is so sweet and treats our dogs as if they were her own. I can't say enough good things about the staff here. They are so thorough, kind, knowledgeable, and calm - whether it's an annual check-up, puppy shots, neuter, annual visit, or a panicky phone call asking "Help! What do I do!? My dog was just stung by a bee!" The staff here truly loves animals and I know my fur babies are in the best hands. But, hey! Don't take it from me... ask my dogs. It took us 4 years to find a vet we are happy with after moving to MN, but this is definitely it! We brought our 2 dogs in for annual exam and shots this summer. They both are rescues and have...issues. 1 is reactive and aggressive to other dogs and the other is 120lbs and a terrified of anything out of the norm (read; all the unknown people and furniture items in the waiting room). The techs were super busy, but cold clearly see we were struggling and quickly helped us into a room where we could wait peacefully. Our next experience was unfortunately an emotional one. We brought our cat in after a discovery of quick growing cancer. Although this ended up being a terrible 2 week process, every step along the way was wonderfully handled by the vets, techs, and staff of this clinic. Love the doctor but the receptionist was rude. I have never been there before. You need to except everyone is there for the first time. The receptionist told me "your all checked in go grab a weight" I said grab a what? She pointed to the scale. Ok so I go but my dog on the scale. Since she didn't walk over with me I thought she was tracking it from the computer so I don't pay attention to her weight. The same receptionist came to get me to take us to the room. She asked me what her weight was. I replied idk, I didn't know I had to pay attention. I told her she just got spayed she was 39 pounds. She made a smart comment on how she was going to guess because we didn't have her exact weight. I'm sorry but if I had to weigh my own dog I can check myself into a kiosk to say we're here too. I was referred to Inver Grove Heights Animal Hospital from my normal vet in Blooming Prairie, MN. From the first phone call every interaction I have had with them was fantastic. On my first visit up there I met Dr. Mittelsteadt was simply put, amazing. Professional, knowledgeable, but compassionate to. She didn't treat us like a number, she treated us with genuine care and concern. She answered all my questions, provided treatment, and then set up a time for me to call her to check in on how my dog was doing. Okay this is long, but genuine! We've been coming here for about a year now after trying a couple other vet clinics. We loved them right when we walked in. Everyone we encountered was competent, front desk staff gave clear instructions for checking in and where to wait, just efficient all around. Pets of all sizes and no breed discrimination going on. Routine care is wonderful and definitely something to write in about on it's own, but it has been their emergency services that have blown us away. First, our Boston Terrier had a strong reaction to her rabies shot and swelled up like a puffer fish. They urged us to come in right away, got her hooked up to meds immediately, and watched her progress for a few hours, updating us along the way until it was safe to take her home. Gave clear instructions for home care. When I saw how they handled her, another small sensitive dog with allergies, I knew they really cared for her in a way that I didn't feel from other vets. Yesterday, when our dog was having other concerns, we were turned away by multiple clinics closer to us, saying they could fit us in the next day. Even one emergency place couldn't help us for a certain amount of minutes until they officially opened. I understand it is hard to fit people in, but I felt like it was handled unprofessionally (kept me on the phone forever while "asking" if they could fit us in, said "it depends on the concern," then turning me away... 4 minutes wasted in an emergency!). I finally called IGHAH, which is 15 miles from us so was not the first choice for this urgent care need, and they were quick to say, "Bring her. We will fit her in." It was instant relief. I could start driving in their direction and they talked to me about how to keep my dog stable while we made the commute. When we arrived, everything went well. The doctors are smart and comforting. I truly feel that they "get" and value the connection each owner has with their animal family members. The tech asked good questions of us, handled my dog with care, and communicated well with the doc when he came in. THE BEST. I was frustrated with my old vet and looking for a new one. Luckily I am active in the obedience and dog show community and had MANY recommendations for IGH vet. My first visit there absolutely blew me away. . I had met Dr. Jim Winsor earlier that day out at the Lake Elmo Fairgrounds and he took a good 20 minutes to examine my dog who was favoring his back leg and let me know his thoughts. At my office visit later, Dr. Jordan Butler was genuinely friendly and concerned for my pup and did her best to make him feel comfortable even though he was going to get some xrays. She communicated with Dr. Winsor who I saw a few days later and let me know that he'd checked up on us and was glad to see my dog moving better. WOW. Just wow. I brought my other dog to see them for a growth in his mouth a few months later and saw Dr. Wallerich who gave him the most thorough physical exam I have ever seen and again, my normally shy/nervous dog was completely comfortable and right at home in the exam room. There was absolutely NO pressure to do anything I wasn't comfortable with that would cost me extra which I loved, and on top of it all the vet barely batted an eye when I told him my dogs were fed a raw diet. I love that they are open to alternative methods of practice and not so much on the expectations that every animal needs the same care. After just two visits I will recommend IGH to anyone looking for a new place to take their animals. Very caring, compassionate vets who obviously love their jobs and love animals. THE BEST. What can I say--I've been to so many vet clinics, and this one is THE BEST BY FAR!The waiting area is very clean and spacious, so I could find a quiet corner to sit with my nervous kitty. The only reason I had to wait at all was because I was early, because as soon as my appointment time rolled around I was brought to a room right away. The vet tech was AMAZING with my Dexter. She really did her best to make both of us comfortable and happy. After checking him out, she went and got the vet, and they both returned WITHIN MINUTES. The vet then gave him a VERY THOROUGH EXAM. She LISTED TO ME and took what I said as valid, important information, instead of ignoring what I thought like many vets tend to do. THE VET STAYED IN THE ROOM FOR AS LONG AS I WANTED. She didn't rush through anything, and even let there be some space for me to think, and she stayed sitting in the room. I felt like my cat and I were the most important thing for her at that time. I've seen a variety of vet techs & Docs and have never had an unpleasant experience.  It's nice to walk in for a yearly check up and see familiar faces - and they recognize you.  Impressive given the number of people they see.  They do a great job of balancing cost vs need as well as realistic options without pressure.  They also do a great job of giving you the information necessary to understand what is going on and why.  They have an impressive facility and will bring in specialists if the need arises, as it did for my boy a couple years ago.  I recommend them 100%. The vets here have high integrity and the best price. They genuinely care about the animals they treat and the owners too. They are not about making money like many other vets do. I have a Maltese and he has chronic sebaceous adenitis, a genetic disease that can't be cured and constantly causes skin and hair problems. I have dealt with more than 10 different animal hospitals in three different states. I'm so grateful that my coworker recommended me this animal hospital. I learnt many things which other vets purposely hide from me. I learned which procedures are necessary and which are not. They are truly the best.  The most knowlegeable and nicest Vets and veterinary staff that I've ever met.  I could go on an on about how wonderful the staff is there.  The doctors are top notch and ranked by their peers at the top of their field.  They even complex sugery.  While they are not the cheapest, the quality of service and the trust I have in them more than makes up for paying a slightly higher price than some of the other veterinary hospitals.  My dogs, (I have three) are alive and happy thanks to the skill and support of Jim, Ann and the rest of the team at Inver Grove Heights Animal Hospital.  Two of them have had surgery there; one for a liver shunt as a puppy and the other for a broken leg.  Both are now in perfect health and very happy.  Thank you, Inver Grove Heights Animal Hospital for saving my beloved companians.  You have earned my trust, loyalty and gratitude. They are wonderful -- especially with English Bulldogs.  Our dog Bill has had some health issues and we have taken him to see other vets but have ended up taking Bill here for a second opinion.  They always seem to know what our dogs issues are right away and give us the correct treatment plans.  Now to save ourselves from paying a second vet bill we just take Bill here whenever we have any issues.  We live in St. Paul so it is not as closely located as we would like but it is well worth the drive.  I highly recommend this place! Ive been taking my dog here for years, I was referred to them by a breeder that had been to countless vets before finding this one. Came here for a second opinion on my beloved baby smoochy furry poochypuppypoo ::gag::, who has developed an unfortunate growth that may or may not be cancerous and may or may not need to be removed.I went here for a second opinion because there were just way too many "may or may not"s in the equation for me - it could just be me, but I'd like to know that a growth is malignant beforehand and not be surprised by finding a body part lopped off in the course of surgery, you know?I was very impressed with the facilities, the staff, and the vet who evaluated the dawg. The office backs up to a local park and the views are wonderful -  pooch even paused in his usual qualms of terror to peek out the window. The place is clean, albeit rockin' the early 90's decor (teal, teal, everywhere). The vet was outstanding, very personable. And more importantly, thorough. The dog's such a sucker for the ladies anyway.The work-up is still underway, but I would recommend this office for anyone who's in the area or who has a pet that may need surgery. They have the facilities and the skilled professionals that I want for the dawg. Prices seem reasonable, too, but I've not ventured down this pet care road before. Read Less

I. Trust. Them. And I think that is the three most important words you can utter when talking about a vet. We took our Fur Baby here for the last 5 years of his life and they were always very good to both us and our cat. When we get new pets this Spring we will be taking them here for food and treatment. The ONLY thing I can think of that is negative about them at all is their parking lot is a real pain in the backside. I used to try and swing in their early in the day (like when they unlock their doors) to get food because the parking lot would be empty and I could get in and out in a snap. In terms of their cost - It seemed to be right in the range of what we had paid at the other vets we had gone too over the years. I never got a bill and had the thought that maybe I should shop around for a different vet - so it must be pretty in line with what the others have charged me. Read Less
